Mini shuts off, although battery is not empty?!

My iPod Mini (2nd generation, 15 month old) is currently only runnning for about one hour although fully charged. Funny thing is, that I reset it and then - with differing results - might get another one or two hour's of playback time. I'd think, that the battery is poor, but I have doubts that it might be something else, since empty batterie's can't produce power for another several hour's. How's to proceed? Replace the battery? Any recommentions?
thnx

Exactly the same thing is happening to me. its 12 months since i had a replacement iPod sent (software problem) and i think that the battery should last longer than it does.
It may be unreasonable to want a replacement (according to apple obv!) but i am thinking of buying a new iPod Video so i think that it would be reasonable to offer a small discount as a sorry for inconvenience. When i bought my iPod last august i bought it for its supposed reliability and 3 months later the bloody thing broke and i had to order a replacement. To be honest i think the fact that i am still contemplating buying an iPod soon is amazing after a history of problems!
i dont quite know what to do or expect but i do somehow feel that the latter might be nothing, I just need some response from apple even a simple sorry would do but a £10-£20 discount on my new one would be sufficient! :P

    Battery dead?
Plug it into the charger that came with the iPhone and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Leave it plugged in for 20 minutes. Then while still plugged in reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Since Apple doesn't repair iPhones (they replace them) you will have to take it back to whoever "fixed" it. Since it's been opened by an unauthorized 3rd party, it is no longer eligible for replacement by Apple.

  • Iphone 4 auto shut off when battery 20% and lower.

My Iphone 4 auto shut off when battery 20% and lower. The phone is only 1.5 years old. Can I know why this happen?

Most commom reason for this is faulty battery. You could try Restore with iTunes on computer, at end when prompted, Set Up iPhone as New. If still problem and you have AppleCare, take to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, make Genius reservation and take to Apple Store for quick free battery diagnostic testing.

Try placing the iPodin recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Next would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem.

  • Mac Mini Shutting off during boot

Hello Everyone - hope I can get some help on this..
I've got an Intel-based Mac Mini, which suddenly (after changing the video resolution - at least that's the last thing I did before this changed), boots to the Apple logo, with the spinning logo underneath.. This then spins for about 30 seconds (normal time), and then the Mac Mini shuts off..
I've reset the SMC and PMU, but no joy..
    Help!
    Thanks in advance!

Did a full reinstall of Leopard - that seems to have fixed the issue.. A smidge draconian, but effective nonetheless...

  • How come occasionally my macbook air turns off suddenly when battery is not empty?

It happens to me three or four times for the past few months. I pressed the power button lightly once to put my air into sleep mode but then it turns off without popping out the messsge of wheter to shut off or to restart.

how the power button works has changed with Mavericks

...........if you are EVER letting your Macbook power off from starvation from power, by the way, youre doing damage to the battery and will cause its premature death (the battery) by doing that frequently

  • The other day, i was using my iphone 3gs 32gb to take pictures, thenit just shut off, the battery wa around 70-80%. Now it shuts down randomly as long as the screen is unlocked, there will be a chance it will shut off. I have tried draining and charging,

    Hi everyone,
I was playing games on my 3gs the other day and then it shut off randomly and the screen slowly faded away the battery was at about 70%
now it will just turn off randomly without warning unless plug into a power source and wont turn on after shutting off unless plugged in
I have tried restoring it, putting it in a dehumidifier and also charging overnight
I have tried to drain the battery but it wont work because it will shut down whilst i am draining the battery
One time today i turned it off and left it for a few hours, the battery was 89% but when i turned it back on a few hours late it showed the plug into power sign
It charged to about 33% and then a few mins later it went up to 100%
Could this be a battey percentage sensor problem?
It anyone has an idea of what might be going on please tell me, it would be greatly apreciated
Also: i am on ios 5.1.1 and NOT jailbroken
    Thanks

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • Iphone 4s 1 month old Shuts off with battery life remaining!

Just wanted to put this out for others to see.
I bought this iphone online from Cricket brand new in June 12, 2013, didnt activate it till July 9, 2013 and today 8-2-13 I had to take it to Apple to diagnose because it was shutting down by itself even though it was showing 50% battery remaining and would not boot but showed the "battery icon with the red bar inside" indicating it needed to be charged. However, when you did charge it and then booted it, it would show that there was 50% battery remaining since that was the point it shut down at and started charging from that point or at whatever battery %(percentage) it shut down at. Initially it started turning off the 1st week at 5%, then 10%, then 15%, then 20%, then 21% and so on until by the end of 24 days of light use it was shutting off at 50%. I took the phone to Apple and the Apple employee saw the problem i was having and had a technician open it. Apple's conclusion from the store was 1. The battery was working 100%, 2. Everything inside looked original" (It should, it was a new phone, not refurbished). So basically  the iphone 4s was defective but he didn't want to say that. The problem was Not the battery but something hardware or software related. They gave me a new iphone 4s to replace mine since it was under warranty for 1 year and thanfully Cricket didn't charge to reactivate the phone otherwise Apple was refusing to take liablitiy for a defective product and pay the activation fee had Cricket charged me even after i spoke with the manager. Hopefully this phone will be ok, otherwise its another trip to Apple.
Bottom line is it was not the battery but something defective with the hardware or software for anyone else that might be having this problem. IF your phone is under warranty I would have them look at it.
    Good luck.

The first time this happened to me was at noon and the battey was about 80%, then again about 4pm and the battery was about 53% and again like one hour ago. This is very anoying, i am happy with my new phone but i feel bad about this issue.

  • MBP shutting off when battery still at 20-30% charge..help a newbie

I have had my MBP since last march but I have to admit I am a casual user and this is my first mac (meaning I am pretty clueless). I have had zero problems with my MBP until now...
Over the last several days my MBP has been shutting off unexpectedly as if it is out of battery, but with no warning and the battery indicator says it still has decent charge (usually 20 to 30%). If I plug in the charger and turn it back on it works fine and the charge is where it was when it shut off.
Does anyone know why it is doing this? I have been only using Safari when this happened. It is very frustrating to unexpectedly lose my place in whatever I am doing, and I want to make sure something is not wrong with my computer.
    MPB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Have you calibrated the battery recently (or ever)? If your battery isn't calibrated then your computer can think that there's 20-30% left when in fact it's empty. Also, there's a firmware upgrade to fix MBPs that shut down randomly(that is if it's not a battery problem). Info on the firmware can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate12.html
and info on calibrating the battery can be found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284
    Hope this helps.

Recently, my MBP started shutting off when the battery level got to 20%. No low battery warning, just shuts off like it got to 0%. I plug it in, turn it on, it boots and battery level is right around 20%.

I took it to the Apple store and the "genious" told me that cycle count is too high and they can't replace the battery under warranty. He said I use it with a battery too much. Last time I checked, I bought a portable computer, it has a battery for a purpose. When I work at a client's office I don't always have it plugged in. What does actually constitute a "cycle"? I've had the laptop for 1 year and 2 months.

Ok, so I'll tell you guys my experience with the genius bar at the Apple Store.
It was about 2:20 pm today, I walked up to the genius bar and waited for someone to come to me -- which took all of 30 seconds. So he asked what my reason for visiting was, and I told him the story about how my battery would just cut off at 30%. He then asked for my computer, so I reached into my laptop bag, pulled it out, and placed it in front of him. It was in sleep mode so we just opened it up to get started; he went to the "About this Mac" from the Apple button in the menu bar and took a look at my serial number. After about 2 minutes he said "I'll be right back." I waited for no longer than two minutes, and he came out from the back with a box in hand. He then flipped my computer over and took my battery off, opened the box, pulled out a new battery and placed it in my computer. Then, all that I had left to do was sign for it, and I was on my way in no more than 10 minutes.
What I find interesting is that he didn't even look at how many "cycles" my battery had; although, it probably wouldn't have made much difference as it was only at 17. At any rate, I asked him if there was a set of defective batteries out there -- including mine -- and basically he told me that yes, there was. So I guess since he looked at my computers serial number, his computer told me that mine was one of the affected ones.
Anyways, bottom line was it was very easy to do to get it replaced, with zero hassle. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with how the Apple Store and genius bar both opperate, much better than dealing with stores like Best Buy and the like -- in my opinion anyways.
    Good luck everyone.

  • My iPhone 3GS keeps on shutting off randomly and does not come back on

    Hi
I have had this problem for months now. With this problem anything that I do it can randomly shut of and the only way to get the iPhone back on I'd to plug it into a power source. I have tried restoreing it and resetting it several times and it hasn't worked.
If anyone has a solution or is going through the same problem I would be very grateful for a response. :)
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I had a similar problem with iphone 3GS, my battery was not keeping its charge so I decided to replace the battery, not easy!!  The new battery seemed to be charging fine and it is fully charged but my phone either switches off as soon as you take it off charge or it only lasts a couple of minutes.  Could I have not connected something properly when I replaced the battery or is the battery faulty?
