Mini skips tracks

I find my mini skipping tracks from playlists, artists, etc. I have to "force" it back to the song skipped and it often skips again to next track while mid song. Will resetting fix this?
Thnx

Hi Driller, and Welcome to Discussions!
Are these tracks that were imported from a CD or bought on the iTunes Music Store? If they are from a certain CD, try deleting them and re-importing them to your computer. Also, be sure the songs are in an iPod compatible format. A few links that might be relevant:

If the songs were purchased from the iTunes Music Store, see this link: iPod does not play content purchased from the iTunes Music Store.

  • Mini skipping tracks on startup

My 6gb iPod Mini has just started skipping the first track when I turn it on. It seems to try to play the track for a few seconds, and then goes on to the next track. I can later go back to the first track and it will play fine.
I have had this iPod for 8 months, but it's the second one I've had this problem with. The first one was replaced under warranty (purchased refurbished direct from Apple), also after 8 months. Of course this one is now out of warranty.
I suspect it's the hard drive, but I find it odd that both minis have had the same problem after the same amount of time. Has anyone had any experience with this type of problem? I don't have any tracks from the iTunes Store, just ripped from CD, and also some audiobooks from Audible.
I have just done a restore to see if that helps, but if it's the same problem as last time it won't make a difference. Is there anything besides the hard drive that it could be? Any way of diagnosing the problem? I am thinking about paying visit to the Genius bar at the end of the month, maybe there's something I'm not doing right?

    I have this problem too.
I've got 2nd Gen 4GB iPod mini, via exchange program, for a month and faced this problem for a week. Some tracks ended 10 sec early while some are mysteriously ended almost 1 minute early.
Checked iTunes and I'm sure that those tracks are still healthy, no problem of playback on iTunes PC. And also, Stop Time is the same value as track length.
    Any Ideas?

  • Ipod Mini skipping tracks randomly

Help, my Ipod's gone all weird on me - had it for approx 8 months without a pick of bother, however yesterday its refusing to play certain songs - songs which have played without a hitch before, and automatically jumps or skips to the next listed track. The songs play fine on my PC and were all downloaded from itunes.

You need to play at least a part of songs purchased from the iTMS to authorize them. They won't copy to your iPod until you do this.
How to transfer Purchased Music from iTunes to your iPod
    iTMS Song and Computer Authorization
If you've played & authorized them in iTunes and they still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store within iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, and then the computer will be authorized again. Sync your iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play on the iPod once again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes.
If you are using the latest version of iTunes (6.0.2), then you need to make sure your iPod software is up to date also. Get the iPod Updater software, install it, run it and update your iPod.
When you have done this, authorize your music in iTunes by playing a few seconds of it within iTunes, re-sync your iPod, and it should transfer by whatever synching method you choose.

  • IPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second!

My iPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second. The only thing that stops it is if you press pause but once you press play off it goes again. This means noi music is able to be played because it's always skipping. The menu button works as does the backlight if you hold the menu button down. The enter button works and the touch pad navigation also works. Both skip buttons have no effect on the unstoppable skipping. Can anybody help or at least verify the problem with other users of simular problems and if they were able to fix them simply, without having to go to an Apple dealer (it's out of warrenty i think)Any help would be appreciated.

  • Ipod app smartplaylist skips tracks or just stops

On my iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) the iPod app is acting weird: I create a smartplaylist in iTunes (10.2.2 - most recent on Windows), sync and play on my phone.
Either the app skips tracks (maybe 7out of 20) or it simply stops playing ("goes down", abends)

  • IOS 7 is preventing my ford car sync working. The skip track buttons no longer work. Any help.

iOS 7 problems with ford sync. Skip track button no longer works.

Sorry, I used the wrong term in my original post. I don't mean to say "mute" my phone, but meant lower the volume!
Should have read: "In Smart Actions, if I want to lower the notification volume on my phone to 13% when I'm in a meeting it only adjusts the volume for calls - not text or email notifications! What the heck is the point of adjusting your phone volume if it doesn't affect all the notifications!?"

  • Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
    You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

  • With iOS 6, how do I skip tracks instead of fast forward?

I run with my iPhone 4. I keep it in the "off" mode to save the battery while listening to music.  I routinely double tap the home button to get the quick controls up so I can quickly skip tracks instead of typing in the acess code (hard to do when you are runnning).  My issue is that with iOS 6, the skip track buttons have become jump forward 15 seconds buttons.  ***?? How do I change this back to skip the entire track?

Sorry, Apple has no approved method to downgrade the version of iOS on your iDevice. You can voice your displeasure with the iOS by leaving feedback at the appropriate subsection from the link below.

  • Ipod mini skips over downloaded itunes songs only

after downloading songs from itunes, the ipod mini skips over the songs after playing them 3 or 4 times

Make sure you have the newest version of iTunes and iPod Updater, and do a restore with the Updater and resync the songs via iTunes.
Generally skipping purchased songs are related to out of date software and updating and restoring or reputting them back on seems to help.

  • Windows 7 and iTunes 9.02 Cannot Skip Tracks

I can hit "play" and hear a song but cannot skip a track. When I hit the skip track button, it just stops playing.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or use select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.

  • I pod classic 160gb skips tracks and will only play sometimes, i pod classic 160gb skips tracks and will only play sometimes

my i pod classic 160gb is reluctant to play stored tracks and then just keeps skipping tracks. have tried restoring settings and then syncing i tunes twice but still the same.

That is a different issue; the hard drive on your iPod is probably fine.
I seem to recall another post a while back in this forum, where the poster said that there seems to be a limit for the length of a single item on the iPod, and it is 24 hours.  Is that the "exact point in each book" that you observe?  If true (I have not confirmed), that may be a limitation of the software on the iPod.
If it is possible to purchase audiobooks that are broken into shorter segments (as an option), that may be a work-around.  iTunes will still treat it as one book, for syncing, but the segments would be like songs in an album.
If you would like to continue discussing your different problem, it would be best to create a new topic instead of posting in this topic.  You can do so by going to the forum category

  • Classic SKIPS TRACK while on HOLD sometimes.

I ordered my iPod Classic the other week and it arrived Monday, and I started using it just about 48 hours ago. I usually put it on shuffle and keep it on hold, and for the most part, it runs smoothly. After every 30 or 40 songs, however, the iPod will skip to the next track at any moment in the song. At first I thought I might have just accidentally clicked the skip button while hold was off, but much to my dismay, that theory has been proven wrong a good 6 times since. I can confirm that the iPod skips track while on hold in my pocket, me minding my own business.
I restored the factory settings this morning, thinking perhaps something went wrong when I first started up my iPod, but it has happened once since then.
I was wondering if this is a common problem perhaps with the current firmware or a setting out of place, or if it's a hardware problem that warrants a return to the good ol' factory. Thanks ahead of time, I'll check back and elaborate on the problem if need be.

I am having similar problem, but not exactly same. I haven't noticed the "hold" switch having any effect either way. See details below (first line is iLounge post title):
iPod Classic (7g) won't play MPEG4 audio files; keeps skipping to next track
Brand-new ipod will not play MPEG4 audio-only (not video) files that have file extension .mp4 (they still don't play if switched to .m4a extension). Having no problems playing other files .mp3, .m4a. The "Summary" tab on the file info shows file type as "MPEG-4 video file". Is this the problem, or do all mp4 tracks default to that file type?
When i try to play any album of .mp4 tracks, the iPod just skips from the track 1 to track 2, then to the 3d, and so on until it runs out of tracks -- after playing maybe a split second, maybe nothing of each track. This happens with various albums, and only with .mp4 files, no others.
All these tracks do play flawlessly in iTunes as audio tracks, and in Quicktime no video shows up; and they will play off the iPod, when the iPod is playing through iTunes. But not when iPod is playing alone.
I have restored iPod & installed the software update. I can get tracks to play if i use "convert to AAC option", but for various reasons this not desirable solution.
Any ideas on how to get these .mp4 tracks to play on the iPod? Anyone else having this problem ? I googled & didn't see any reference to this problem with MPEG4 audio, only so problems with video files.

  • IPhone 5 iOS 7.0.2 Music app - volume slider slides to maximum when skipping tracks.

    Hi all,
Wonder whether any other customers getting this?
iPhone 5 UK iOS 7.0.2 music app - when skipping tracks (or even selecting tracks) volume slider slides to maximum volume by itself intermittently. I have noticed with EU Volume Limit 'ON' in music settings or Volume limiting 'on' this behaviour occurs. I've turned off volume limiting and now it appears to work normally.
I did restore as new iPhone via iTunes at iOS 7.0 and had this behaviour followed by update to iOS 7.0.2 via iTunes and same problem.
I can't decide if this is a hardware or software problem?
    Thanks all!

Yep - deleting anything that's not purchased on itunes when I try to play it.
This is terrible, and especially a pain when they're things like limited edition albums where tracks are only available direct, so going for iTunes match is not gonna help.
Only other variable to consider is that I installed the "Groove" app to try out a few weeks ago, and played music with it twice. Highly doubt this is related, however non-iTunes purchased tmusic tracks also show up there and now *crash the phone* when I try to play them so it's something system-wide.

  • Bluetooth - Skip Tracks/Full Implementation?

    Hi
Does anyone know when Apple will implement the Bluetooth ability to Skip Tracks whilst using the iPhone? They've partially completed all the Bluetooth capabilities by adding volume control to OS4, however they left out Skip Tracks. It's very frustrating not to have this whilst Running or Cycling or working out in general.
The "Shake to Shuffle" is OK, but useless when you're working out because it constantly changes. I just want to put the iPhone in my pocket or arm holder and control it from my Bluetooth device. Other phones I've had seem able to do this so not sure what the issue is with the iPhone.
Anyone have any news on when Bluetooth functionality will be finally complete? I thought it was a simlpe case of a firmware change rather than anything hardware related.
    Thanks
    Andy
