Mini thinks it is connected to an absent miniDVI display

Suddenly, when I boot up my (late 2009) Mini with my DVI monitor connected via miniDVI adapter, I get black screen (not no signal). If I boot up with it connected via the miniDP adapter, it shows the display, but the display preferences reveal that is displaying on both the intended 1280x1024 Samsung monitor as well as a 2nd generic 1024x768 display. If I don't turn on mirroring, the mouse occasionally disappears to the other screen, and if I do turn on mirroring, then the resolution drops.
Any idea what would cause the Mini to imagine a second display?

Have you physically removed the mini-DVI adapter?

I've read elsewhere that you can connect two computers to the Thunderbolt Display, but you can't switch between them per se. You can only power up one at a time. Anyone, feel free to correct me on this, but my understanding is this is not an officially supported configuration.

Mini doesn't always connect bluetooth and external (USB) drives on boot

I have had a new Intel mini for 4 months now (we also have a PPC G5, which we love). In the last few weeks the mini started to not connect my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, nor recognize some of my USB peripherals when booting up. When this happens, it also makes a repeated "startup sound - bong!" echo when the start button is pressed. I have two external USB drives, one 500GB Phantom and one 500GB WD MyBook. When the Apple logo appears at boot, I can see the activity lights flashing on the drives as the BIOS interrogates the USB connections, but after the Leopard start up desktop appears, the only drive shown is Macintosh HD, the mouse pointer is at the top left of the display and will not move, nor will the keyboard do anything. I have read every post on this subject and tried all of the resets suggested. Sometimes this works after a few attempts, sometimes it takes 6 or more tries - disconnecting all cables, and turning the computer on again and again. Occasionally the WD MyBook drive appears on the desktop, yet still the Bluetooth is unresponsive and the other drive absent. I am getting frustrated having to disconnect everything and trying to boot this thing up, sometimes for one hour or longer before I can use it properly (all of my work is on the external drives).
There MUST be a firmware update for this by now, because I see that I am not the only one experiencing these problems, and this is obviously some problem with how the BIOS is communicating with the bus.

I'd be careful jumping to conclusions or the troubleshooting process may get clouded. For one thing those WD drives are junk and most people using them eventually have problems.
What happens with everything disconnected from the Mac except a mouse connected to a USB port on the Mac and the monitor connected to the video port only?

My new Mac Mini suddenly losing Internet connection periodically.

It just seems like "out of the blue" I'm suddenly losing the Internet connection (when browsing) then eventually it returns only to lose connection again. Have not had this problem before, now suddenly happening all the time. My iPad never has this problem (it's on the same wifi network), so it's got me wondering is the problem "in" the Mac Mini? Thanks for any information you might be able to supply.

I have had similar troubles with my Mac Mini for several months now and have tried all of the above plus more (including taking the thing apart to make sure the antenna wire had not come unmoored). I can set the MacBook Pro on the same desk with the Mini and its Airport connection will remain strong and steady while the Mini waffles and stalls, on and off.
I have pretty much concluded that the fault lies with Mini's Airport, the card itself most likely but perhaps some other factor. The past few weeks I have been keeping the Mini online by sharing the MBP's Airport connection via ethernet. This works well (and further points to Mini's Airport as the culprit) but is is rather cumbersome since I am constantly disconnecting the MBP for road work.
At this point I am thinking that the better solution would be to add an Airport Express to the network, connecting the Mini to wifi via ethernet. At this point I am certain, based on experience, that no amount of permission repairing, user account switching, new network creating or network rebooting in whole or in part will fix the problem.

First open iTunes (version 11). Then connect the iPad. Now is it recognized?

What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid.

My new Mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity so I lose the connection to Apple TV and even just browsing on Safari seems painful hoping a page will load before losing connectivity. I reset my router, restart the mini and it intermittently keeps happening. Has anyone come up with a workable solution?

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
208.67.222.222

(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
Click OK.

X1 Carbon mini Displayport won't connect toHDMI

Hi I have an X1 carbon type 3443 thinkpadand while the mini displayport will now connect via a VGA adapter without intermittently going to a black screen following updating the BIOS with the Dec 2013 update, it will not connect to a HDMI screen at all. Windows 8.1 64bit
The external HDMI screen is not shown in Control Panel/Display/Screen Resolution and Fn F7 goes nowhere.
Any ideas on what I should try next before asking for a refund?

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with Display port on your ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Have you checked with updating Graphic drivers and BIOS update?

X200s + Ultrabase (DisplayPort) to connect to Apples' LED Cinema Display (mini DisplayPort)?

I'm considering purchasing Apple's LED Cinema Display which has only one connection, mini DisplayPort. I have an X200s and the Ultrabase with the DisplayPort.
Has anyone got this combination working?
Getting a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort connection isn't easy from what I can tell but I've spoken to Circuit Assembly and they have a product that will provide the necessary connection (http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products/Mini-Displayport-Female-to-Displayport-Male-Adapter-Cable...) but can't be sure it will work as they don't have Apple's display on hand.
Any information on whether anyone has had this or a similar setup working would be much appreciated.

If you have wired Internet there are adoptions for you to add a router or airport express to build a Wi-Fi network.
