Mini to old regular TV

Hey I'm connecting the Mini to my regular TV using the Apple DVI-to-Video adapter, now the picture on the TV doesn't sit right, it doesn't fill the whole screen, and it goes a too up and right, meaning I have black lines on the bottom and on the left, anyway to change the positioning?

Have a mess around with the screen resolutions in System Prefs. Also try turning on the overscan option.
There are some 3rd party apps that allow you to specify what exact resolution you want to use, but otherwise you will never get the image to take up the whole screen the way it fills up a computer display.

If you have any apps that were acquired with the old ID they will always be tied to that ID. Delete them and reacquire them with the new ID that you have in Settings > iTunes and App Store

You will need to choose one as the "master", back that unit up to iTunes, then restore the other unit from that backup and then sync all the same content and apps. That's the only way they'd have identical data. If you need to keep then synched on an ongoing basis, you'll probably need to use some sort of cloud-based service such as iCloud or Dropbox to hold the data, which of course will require that your apps support that service for storage of documents.

  • Can I get a Mini DVI (old type) to Mini DVI new type adaptor? Does it exist

I have a number of the old Ibook mini DVI to VGA/S-Video adaptors. My IBook died and got a macbook that has a mini DVI port - but not the exact same type as the Ibook. (Its NOT the Macbook pro type port). Does anyone know if there is a patch cord that has a male Ibook type mini DVI on one end and a female mini DVI on the other so these various adaptors I have will function.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Could it possibly be with the new software upgrade? I just updated from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 and all of a sudden my Mini-Dvi to Video stopped working too. I'm using my Mini-DVI to VGA without problems at work with the same computer and a few minor adjustments to the display prefs.
Apple says the 10.6.2 update was supposed to correct display issues. Could they have accidentally deleted support for the adaptor while correcting other issues?
Perhaps the cheapest solution to this would be to downgrade back to 10.6. Any advice on this?

  • FINALLY! Mac mini to old Sony WEGA tv success!

After having tried several different setups I finally got it working.
My late 2009 Mac mini is now hooked up to my old 27” Sony WEGA Trinitron TV.
They magic/missing link was the “VGA to RCA/ S-Video/VGA Converter” from MonoPrice ($27.51).
I used a mini display port to VGA adapter ($13.47, but can get them cheaper) from my Mac mini to the converter and then from the converter to the tv using a standard composite (yellow RCA) cable. Then another cable from the Mac mini audio port to the red/white ports on the tv. Started up the Mac mini and all was good...almost.
The resolution on the tv just isn’t good for text, and it’s often difficult to read, but the main reason I’m using the setup is video. Hulu, YouTube, TWIT live, etc. All of these have picture quality equal to that of the tv hooked up to cable tv. I tried changing the Mac minis display resolution, but found the default setting of 1024 x 768 works best for video. I have a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac in my office. I just turned on Internet Sharing on the iMac and turned on Airport on the mini to get the wireless internet connection. No Base Station/Router needed. I have a bluetooth mouse, and an Apple wireless keyboard. I can now sit back on the sofa and enjoy!
This isn’t a permanent solution, but until I can upgrade the tv, it will do just fine.

is it apple branded or an off brand?
I bought it through amazon. NOT Apple branded. The seller was Global Source. There are other sellers on amazon that are less expensive, and some that are more expensive. I’ve heard of people having problems with some cables, so I didn’t want to go with the cheapest one, and settled on a mid priced cable.

  • New Mini and old wireless keyboard must be 1" apart?

I just bought a brand new Mac Mini to replace older model of same. My old Apple wireless keyboard (probably 1st gen - the battery compartment is on the bottom) was working fine with old Mini, but with the new one, the keyboard loses connection unless the Mini and the keyboard are virtually touching each other. Move the keyboard a few inches away and connection is lost. I've taken all updates, including a BT firmware update, and still the problem persists.
Do I have a bad BT radio in my new Mac Mini?

Resolved. I took the Mini into the Apple store, and the Genius Bar discovered that, when they installed additional memory, that the cable connected to the Bluetooth antenna had disconnected.

  • Mac mini and old iBook

My dad (aged 84) has got used to using an old iBook. Recently, it started quitting any time he went on line. An Apple certified store said it is too old to fix. Could we connect a new Mac mini to the iBook, getting around the problem while keeping the same interface for him?

Still not sure which iBook, but...
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...

  • Upgrading from 10 year old G4-400 to Mac Mini - what old files work?

Even tho' my old G4 (OS 10.3.9) still works, I'm upgrading to a Mac Mini (MB464LL/A) (2 GHz, 2 GB, 320 GB) with Leopard (Snow Leopard included, not installed). Since the eBay listing didn't mention including iLife or iWorks, will I be able to read my old Appleworks 6 documents? I assume that I'll have to get a Photoshop upgrade to see my old docs from Version 8.
Any other apps needed? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can still use Appleworks. I have a brand new mac mini with Snow Leopard and use Appleworks every day. Still runs perfectly fine. Rosetta I believe is the software Apple includes to run older programs like Appleworks. You could probably run all your old programs.
Photoshop? You'd be better off getting at least a upgrade to the first version that ran on Intel macs. CS3. Or of course, CS5. Other programs vary. I use Office Mac 2004 every day...no upgrade needed. I use CS4, haven't gotten CS5 yet. Runs fine.
With Leopard, you'll be fine for most things. The best way to find out for sure though, is to just install things and give it a go. Some will be fine, some will run slowly, or not install. Give us a list of all your programs other than Appleworks and Photoshop, and someone can chime in with their experience.
iWorks will open Appleworks. I tried it a few times.
Can you do 4 gigs of ram in the 2ghz model? Don't recall. Might be nice to throw 4 in there. Not necessary though.

  • G-Tech Mini vs. 'Regular' G-Tech External Hard Drive

Noticed in local Apple Store that the mini version of the G-Tech HD was $40 more with half the stated storage space. Why the difference? How do both products compare in use for video storage & editing in iMovie or Final Cut?

The mini versions use smaller 2.5" hard drives, like those uses in laptops and the MacMini. The regular versions use standard 3.5" hard drives, as found in desktop computers and the iMac. The smaller hard drives are more pricey, usually a bit slower, but are much quieter and can be powered from USB. So you don't need a power supply with the smaller drives.
For video editing, you need space and performance. I recommend the standard version.

  • Overriding stolen Mini's old account with a new one.

    Hi,
I had a iPod Mini, which was stolen. To my understanding, my PC recognizes it to be the only iPod installed onto my PC. Now I got a new Nano, but when I plug it in, it only shows up in My Computer but not in iTunes. I've tried re-installing both iTunes and resetting the Nano but nothing helps.
How can I remove the old Mini "profile" from my PC and start with an empty table with my new Nano?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vesa from Finland

After trying the 5 R's with no success I got a tip from a friend of mine, telling me to format my iPod via My Computer. After that, I was told, software such as Anopod and iTunes would recognize my iPod and allow me to configure the device as if it would've been connected for the first time.
    Nope.
Now the pod shows up as an external drive with zero bytes of capacity on it. And it, kinda, upsets me.
Anyone care to give me a hand?

  • Do mac minis work with regular dell monitors?

I need to kno this because i am thinking of buying a mac and want to kno if it will work with my monitor i have for windows. And if so, will it be worth it?

Yes, Dell monitors work in perfect harmony with Mac Minis. I used to have an old Dell monitor (left over from our previous PC), and when I used the adapter that comes with the Mac Mini to convert it to the appropriate formate (DVI or VGA or something), it still looked sharp. So its definitely worth it. Plus you save money buying a new monitor.

  • DVI to Mini DVI (Old vs New)

I have an older MacBook Pro (aluminum keyboard: ~2009) that has the larger DVI adapter on the end.  I recently received a larger Apple monitor that has the combination USB, power hookup and mini DVI.  Is there an adapter that goes from the older DVI to the newer (smaller) one?

At ~$180...well, all I can say is "Ouch-chi-momma!" Thanks, Niel, I've seen this adapter and was hoping for a much less expensive solution.
My backup plan is to get a NEC LCD2480WUXi or PA241W for about the same (street) price as the Apple 24" Cinema Display.
Too bad Apple didn't include the DVI port. With their reputation for quality, top notch monitors, they could sell a bunch to professionals.

  • On my mac mini, the old 2.0.0.9 version is the default browser even though I downloaded v.3.16.19. How can I get rid of the old version once and for all?

I would like to eliminate the old version completely, as it comes up automatically and I don't see a way of deleting it from the mac.

I think the problem lays with Last.fm. I had the same exact problem as you. In your processes screen, end the task "lastfmhelper.exe" Last.fm still scrobbles. The tracks don't skip, although I notice there is still a bit of a lag in the first part of the song - but if you can deal with that, no skipping. I think you will have to end that task everytime you boot up your computer, or uninstall last.fm completely until they fix it; it is a bug in their software, as opposed to iTunes.
