Mini to stereo receiver for music only vs. CD player or ipod

Thinking of ditching my CD player and just ripping 'em all to itunes on my Mini and connecting it directly to my stereo receiver. I figure that with an external HD I can pip them at CD quality rather than mp3 with an ipod. Any problems with this thinking? Is the quality coming out of the Mini's headphone jack good enough to match my CD player? Thanks for any advice on this!

Absolutely. A lot of people are doing it. You can put all those CDs away somewhere and not have them taking up living space (if that's a priority).
Using Apple Lossless compression you'll have results that are indistinguishable from the CDs. If you're not a critical listener you can probably get by with 256kb/s or 320kb/s MP3 (or AAC - Apple compressed), as that sounds exactly the same as the original source for 80-90% of people.

No. The headphone jack has only average fidelity. For CD-like sound quality, you'll want to get a quality, external A-to-D converter (analog-to-digital). Examples:

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
After restarting, it worked.

Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´ Those were good days..... What a City

I've tried to point her macbook to my imac itunes library and that doesn't seem to be working very well.
The other wrinkle is that she is taking photos on her iphone that I'd like to show up in our shared iphoto library and photo stream. Currently we have our individual icloud apple ids so we may sync our own bookmarks and such and we use a separate "store" id for music and apps and such. I'm not sure I see a way for me to merge iphotos into a shared library/stream?

IPhone 3 to iPod for music only

Retired my original iPhone when I purchase iPhone 4. Converted original to use as an iPod for music while I work out. Now cannot keep charge for any longer than hour and is impossible to synch with iTunes. What am I not doing correctly? Thanks

What should my mac mini have if primarily for music?

I'm planning on purchasing a mac mini for the primary reason of storing and playing music on my home stereo. While I know that there will be the occasional time when I'll use for browsing and email, it will be used with AppleRemote to play music usingh iTunes as my music manager.
That being said - I have three specific questions.
Does CPU type and speed matter and if so, in what way?
Will I benefit from a Fusion drive and if so, in what way?
Will I benefit from adding more memory and if so, in what way?

If you purchase the current model, or any Intel Core 2 Duo Mini the baseline CPU, memory, and standard disk drive will be fine. You will not see any real improvement with more memory better processor or Fusion drive.

Bluetooth hands-free + stereo receiver for iPods/iPhone

I'm on a quest to find a very particular adapter.
I have iPod integration in my car. Plug in the iPhone and I can play audio from the phone through the headunit to the speakers. Phone call audio does not go through, and it is my understanding that no docking adapters work for phone audio.
I'd prefer to use Bluetooth to play audio and control my iPhone in the car. I've seen adapters that connect to male iPod dock connectors (such as the one in my car) are powered by the connector, and allow pretty much any Bluetooth device to play audio and be controlled via A2DP/AVRCP. However, these Bluetooth adapters do not work with phone audio because they don't have a microphone and don't support that profile. I have seen auxiliary adapters that include a microphone and work fine with phone audio. So what I'm looking for is something that does both of these. It must have a female iPod dock connector to attach to my existing car interface for audio, control, and power. It must have a microphone (either in the unit or attached via cable) and it must support A2DP/AVRCP as well as the handsfree or headset Bluetooth profiles. My searches are coming up empty but I have to believe I'm not the only one looking for this kind of integration. Both types of devices exist and function in similar ways. It MUST exist. And I must have it.
Has anyone seen or heard of such a device? Does anyone need a prototype tester for such a device? I need to know!

ITunes Library: Copy items on import for music only (not video)

I've just bought a new iPod Touch (and I love it). I'd like some advice on managing my iTunes library though.
At the moment I use an external FW drive for my music (there's a lot of it), and I have iTunes manage that itself. It copies files into the folder on this drive automatically, manages the folder hierarchy, and all is good.
Now, however, I have an iPod Touch, and so need to use iTunes to manage my movie library, which is substantial. Currently I have organised my movies into folders spread across 2 500GB external disks. I'm happy with this setup, but to get these movies onto the iPod, I need to import the movies into iTunes.
So here's my problem. I like the way iTunes manages my music library, and would like it to continue to do so. However, when it comes to movies, I want everything to stay the same as it is at the moment, I can't have iTunes take control of the movies because they're spread over two very big disks, and none of my external drives are large enough to fit everything on (movies + music).
What's the best way to have iTunes continue to manage my music, but to just remember links to the movies on the two other external drives? Also, will I have to be careful about using things like the 'consolidate library' feature because that could really screw things up (trying to move things about when I don't want it to).
Any advice would be much appreciated (I'd love iTunes 8 to have more flexibility and control over libraries, especially distinguishing between movies and music).

I am saying that when no files actually copy to the SAN Volume when in "Copy Files" mode despite the setting being correct (destination is the Library's external media folder).
Original files stay on the portable drive, whatever their nature. But if a file is imported this way and needs optimizing, FCPX does create a ProRes file in an "Optimized Media" folder it creates within the Libray's external media folder.
If I eject the portable drive, files that did not need to be optimized go offline.
At no time does FCPX indicate that it is copying. In the background process window it shows rendering of the waveforms and transcoding when optimizing but there is never an indication it actualy copies the files.

Music 'only' deleted when connecting my ipod 2g.

I connected my ipod nano to computer and I got an error message stating 'my ipod could not be synced. A duplicate file name was specified.' I hit 'ok' but the music has been deleted. My computer also said it was needing to check the ipod for errors and it is currently running a scan on it.
My Nike info is still there and the bottom of the summary page shows 3.6gb OTHER which I think was the same amount of gb that was taken up by the music.
I do not auto sync to the computer I use nowadays.
I no longer have access to the original computer when I got this ipod so I cannot just transfer my library back onto the ipod.
Any ideas how I can get my music back??

Sir, that means the Windows Firewall Blocked the Script So try these steps hope it works for you :
1.) - Open the "Start Menu".
2.) - Go to the "Control Panel".
3.) - Double click "Security Center".
4.) - Click "Windows Firewall" in the top left.
5.) - Click "Change settings".
6.) - Click "Continue".
7.) - Click the "Exceptions" tab.
8.) - Scroll down and check all of the "Windows Media Player" options.

Music only plays in one ear, ipod nano 5th generation

My ipod nano 5th gen had been acting up since january, the sound would be popping on and off in one ear but the other would be fine. I thought it was the earphones so I kept buying new ones, but still it didn't change much, so then around march, it finally just stop playing in one ear. I'm pretty sure that there's a problem with my headphone jack, and I can see that inside, you know the two bumps, the top one is kind of inside my ipod. I don't really know what to do! Help me, please!

You will have to replace the headphone jack in the iPod.
