Mini-VGA to S-video only gives a black&white tv-screen.

When I connect my emac G4 with a video adapter (through mini-VGA) to the S-video port of my tv it doesn't have any colour. How can I change this? The image is perfect but its just black and white.

thanks for the help guys, i solved it by using a standard (we dutch people call it a tulip) cable instead of a S-video cable. Still don't know what the problem really was with that..

Poor resolution from mini-vga to s-video adapter

I recently bought a digital projector to watch movies on at home, and am using my 14"iBook as the video source. It works great when using a vga cable. However, i want to run the cables up through the ceiling and down through the wall to keep them out of sight. I had read that S-video was supposed to be a fairly high resolution method of transmitting the signal, and is also a lot slimmer than vga (and thus easier to snake through the walls.) So I bought a mini vga to s-video/ video adapter and when I hook it up to the projector, the image quality is very poor. Is there a setting that needs to be changed on my iBook to get it to display properly, or something else that I'm missing? I bought the adapter used on ebay, so I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem without buying another adapter only to find out that it still doesn't work. Also, I am running screen spanning doctor, but even if I change to mirror mode, it still looks bad.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, John. That was my suspicion. Guess I'll have to drill giant holes to be able to run the VGA cable. Unless of course I could figure out how to remove/re-attach the connector end. Anyone know if this is possible? Or, is it possible to find a 15' long mini vga? It seems that there ought to be someone out there who could make custom cables for unique situations and needs like mine. What I really need is a box that runs off my ibook that has multiple display outputs so that i don't have to pull cords every time I want to switch from my 22" widescreen to my projector.

Mini-VGA to S-video Adapter / Getting Original Display Setting Back

I purchased the Mini VGA to S-Video Adapter. Works good with my HD Television. But no I cant get my original Display settings back. I dont know exactly what the setting was but it had more screen space. Please Help, Ryan

So you have a good picture on your TV but not your mac?
Open the display pane of system preferences, leave the settings that come up under VGA Adapter (or whatever it calls itself) But for the iMac settings, colour should be millions, and then just go through the different resolutions until you find one that you like.

2 ?s - Can't view photos on plasma - tv shows only show in black/white

I connected my 60GB iPod to my 60" Pioneer Elite Plasma television. Photos will not come up. I turned "TV on" and no photos appear. Any suggestions?
The other issue I am having is watching a TV show on the Plasma. I downloaded LOST and was able to enlarge it to fit the 60", but it only appears in black & white and with purple lines in it. I tried changing from NTSC to Pal and this did not work. Any suggestions???

Make sure your connecting to the right input or Composite input to your TV; Not Component R,G,B input.
Try direct connection to TV without looping thru any other equipment for this test!
After that if you still have video problems use a different set of A/V cables, as the ones your using could be damaged.!
Do the checks and then post results..!

Mini-VGA to S-video resolution problems.

I have recently hooked up a Apple Video Adapter that connects from my 17" iMac 1.8 GHz G5 Mini-VGA port to the S-video port on my RCA TV. My problem is that while it is plugged in I cannot put my iMac resolution at the proper 1440 x 900 because the option is not there. In order to get the 1440 x 900 option back, I have to unplug the adapter. How can I fix this so I don't have to unplug the adapter?

Mini-VGA to S-video

I have the mini-VGA adapter to connect my iBook to my S-video input on my T.V. Can I use this to view movies in my iTunes library on my T.V? Can I expect decent picture quality? Is it possible to stream the audio content through my airport express to my home theater audio? Suggestions and tips appreciated.

yes, you can use the s-video connection to view video. the video would probably be fine, but with the computer having a superior image. i think most people would want that set up just for the larger resolution. if you had a dvi or hdmi connection it would be better. as far as the audio goes, sure you can use your speakers. the thing is though, is that they have to be hooked directly to the airport express. there is no way around that. and then you go to your itunes preferences and make sure that itunes has searching for remote speakers enabled. [ 8 ) ]

i want to watch movie files on my tv. i bought a mini vga-to-video adapter from Apple. However, whenever i hook it up to my Tv, i get these rolling horizontal lines on the TV screen. i have tried every resolution combination, unplugged all extraneous plugs from both the Tv and computer. All to no avail.
this *****- i used to watch movies just fine on my eMac. ..if anyone has any ideas on why i get these ghost lines they will be much appreciated. thanks!

Mini DV to Video only shows in black and white

I bought a mini dv to video from an apple shop so that i could watch films on my tv. I connected it to my tv at home and it worked perfectly, but when i try to connect it to my parents tv it only shows in black and white... both tvs are of roughly the same age...I'm connecting the yellow wire to the scart on the back of the tv to the yellow socket on the adapter
how come it works on one tv and not the other one?

When you press the INPUT button on the remote to cycle through the inputs, is "ColorStream HD" listed? Is "Video" listed?
The Xbox is connected using 5 cables, correct? Red, blue, green, white, and red?

Mini-DVI to S-video adapter and no colour on TV screen

I just purchased a mini-DVI to S-video adapter for my MacBook. I want to connect it to my TV through my DVD/Video player.
I do get a nice picture on the TV and I can manage it in the screen settings panel, BUT the TV-screen doesn't show any colour, just black and white. Why?
I've tried several settings in the Preferences panel, but no luck. What to do?

The cable is brand new and I've checked it with a mulitmeter. It's OK.
I've also heard that this is a fairly common problem with S-video and I got a tip to try the composite video instead. It worked beautifully, so now I've got nice and crisp video in full colour on my TV!

How can I use iMovie on my ipad mini to create a video from still shots using a green screen?

In my physics class, I am doing a project where we are taking pictures to create a movie, and we are usign a green screen. I know that iMovie on the mac devices is able to transfer photos and videos from a green screen so that you are able to insert backgrounds where the green screen is. Is there any way to be able to change the settings on the iPad mini to be able to do the same things with a green screen and backgrounds?

Also, I tried changing my primary email on Fb to what it was years ago, etc and I still wasn't able to delete the account.

Mini guide and little video preview window causing Black screen!!!

I now have the same issue. Pressing the B button used to give me a pip with the guide on screen at the same time as live TV in the lower right corner. Now when pressing B the small box with live TV appears in the corner but the guide goes black. Pressing B again, closes the small pip window and restores the guide - different from what it was doing before.

Officejet 8620 Only Scanning in Black & White

It looks like this question has been aked before but the solutions offered don't work.
If I scan using my Mac software (import from preview) I can scan in colour or B&W but if I use Scan to Computer directly from the scanner it will only scan in B&W. I am savig to PDF and experiencing the problem on both my iMac and Macbook. There are no options, that I can find, that allow a colour preference to be set.
Anyone got any ideas?

What comes to mind when I read through your post about not being able to scan from the printer to computer in color, would be either the AirPrint driver is selected, or perhaps the Full Feature version of the software isn't installed. I very well could be incorrect however, I have some steps that should iron it out for you.
Try these steps in order please:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
Repair disk permissions
Restart the Mac
Click here and download the Full Feature driver and install it: HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this Apple driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
Try a scan afterwards and it should work!

Full screen video on 2nd monitor blacks out 1st screen

When I play a video full screen on a second monitor, iTunes blacks out the first screen and I can't see the Windows desktop. Is there a way around this?

I'm having this problem as well. Apparnetly the world thinks this is acceptable behavior. I do not. I'm trying to work and feed video from iTunes to an HDTV next to me. Why in the world would I want my 3 other monitors to blank???
Tripply amazing is that it's worked this way for quite a long time. Apple isn't fixing it, so they must think this is a great FEATURE.
