Mini wakes up.G5 Doesn't

I have a wireless network operating through a router. It works just fine except that the G5 Powermac will not wake up when requested on the network yet the Mac Mini which is on the same power settings will wake up. Both of these are being called up from a laptop(PC). Can anyone point me in the right direction please
Mac Mini 1.42, Powermac G5 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

What device is sending the wake on lan data packet? Wake on Lan is a very specially crafted data packet that needs to be sent to a specific Ethernet address (not the IP). In fact the specially crafted data packet need to contain a "magic" sequence, that contains the Ethernet address repeated at least 16 times.
So a Wake On Lan data packet can only work on one specific device, and not on multiple computers.

  • Wrong resolution when Mini wakes

I have my Mac Mini connected to my Sony Bravia TV using DVI to VGA. The best resolution for the TV is 1360x768. However when my Mini wakes in the middle of the night, say to record something on EyeTV, because there isn't a detectable connected monitor (TV is switched off) the Mini decides that the display will 1280x1024. This is driving my nuts. When I turn the TV on, I have to hunt around for my mouse to find 'detect displays' menu to restore the to full screen 1360x768. This is certainly not wife friendly.
Does anyone know of a way to force the Mini to display at 1360x768 regardless of whether a monitor is attached and if it is switched on or off?
I would like to go DVI to HDMI but have failed to get as good an output as I can with VGA

SwitchResX is no solution for the kind of issue your kit is having. You hit the nail on the head when you said, "...there isn't a detectable connected monitor (TV is switched off)...". That's exactly what's happening. It's an architectural oversight in the Sony. Most computer monitors behave differently from that, e.g. it doesn't matter if the monitor is on or off, the Mac won't lose track of it.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anything but the DVI Detective that will fix the issue. Can you leave the TV on? Does it go into a low power sleep state that would still allow the mini to detect its presence?

  • Wake on Lan doesn't work anymore

    Hello all,
I have 3 computers (1 iMac and 2 Mac Mini) connected via Wifi or Ethernet to my router.
One Mac Mini (a Late 2006 under Snow Leopard) is used as a "NAS" with 2 USB external hard drives.
"Wake for network access" is checked in Energy Saver Preference pane.
Everything has worked fine for months : the "NAS" Mac Mini woke up everytime I choose it in the Finder.
But, since an Apple TV update, Wake on LAN doesn't work anymore, and that's the case for my 3 computers.
And I don't know exactly which update has broken the Bonjour Sleep Proxy.
I've tried to restore my Apple TV, without success...
Do you have any idea ?
    Thanks for your help
    Best regards

Yes, anonymous filtering was unchecked and I had singularly forwarded ports 7 and 9 to the static IP address set up in the DHCP, trying UDP, TCP, then both.  (I was desperate!).  Then I forwarded both ports doing the same thing, UDP, TCP, both.  I know it uses UDP, but again, I was desperate.  I turned off the firewalls completely and again, as a last resort, I put the computer to be woke up in the DMZ to no avail.  It's the firmware (= I'm unimpressed with my first Cisco purchase).

  • My VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA doesn't work.

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, my VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA doesn't work. When I was using Mountain Lion, as soon as you plugged in the Mini adaopter into the mini display port, the screen would shrink and format to where it would project via a RGB cable to a projector. No such luck since Mavericks! Also, I had a lot of trouble with the DVD player when I tried to play a DVD and project it via a projector. It all worked seamlessly with Mountain Lion. Can anyone help me?

I think if you go to System Preferences >> Displays and Option-click on the "Scaled" radio button, it will show you all of the resolutions that you would have had before under Mountain Lion. I just upgraded to Maverick and my resolution preferences (mirrored on a TV using the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, using 1280x768) were completely reset (my display was no longer mirrored, and the resolution on my main iMac screen became 2560x1440). I found my answer here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23599645#23599645. Hope that helps.

  • I upgraded to mountain lion, now my mini dvi to hdmi doesn't work

I installed mountain lion and now my mini dvi to hdmi doesn't work.  I did a disk permission repair, but that didn't help.  Any suggestions?

My internet card will only work on 32bit,and it sounds like mountain lion only works on 64bit so that must be my problem. I think I will have to upgrade my internet or go back to lion.

  • Tv/monitor resolution switches when mini wakes up from sleep

I have a mac mini c2d with intel graphics on leopard 10.6.2 connected to a sony 46w4100 tv. After updating to 10.6.2 when it first came out (i had used 10.6 and 10.6 aswell before this and this problem did not occur) i immediately noticed an issue. when i put my mac to sleep and wake it back up, instead of outputting to tv as a media player so that i have access to detailed picture settings, it reports itself as a PC thus limiting what i can change and the picture quality. i mainly use this as an HTPC, and its a problem since wiht my tv(not sure if ohter tv's have this), settings for connecting to dvd/blueray player/satellite receiver are extensive and picture is sharp, vs connecting it to computer where you only have the option of text and video and the video is not as vibrant or sharp. if i shutdown the mac and start again ,ir goes back to normal, but if i sleep and wake up, this behaviour occurs. 10.6 did not have this problem neither did 10.6.1. infact with 10.5 my mini always reported as PC thus i had limited options but with 10.6 i was happy to notice it was fixed.
is there someway to avoid this other than just ensuring my mac never goes to sleep (wasteful since its not in use most of the day). is anybody else seeing this issue and do you think this is a bug or aws the 10.6 and 10.6.1 behaviour a "bug" that apple has decided to fix.

also note the topic may be a bit misleading, when the mini wakes from sleep it is still outputting 1920x1080 so resolution does not change. when i first turn on mac, the sony tv shows 1080p output, full screen, etc etc and all the settings. when i wake from sleep and turn tv on, it doesnt have any any of that info so it doesnt even tell me its 1080p but it is.

  • External drives spinning up on Mac Mini wake up

These are IOMega MiniMax hard drives. When the Mini goes to sleep, they stay on. But when the Mini wakes up, they all turn off, then on. I figure it's OS X re-mounting them. Is there no way of getting around that, because it's not good for the hard drives to spin down/up so often.

They should be fine and won't use as much electricity that way.
If you are concerned enough to do something different the use of a powered USB or FireWire hub, depending on the bus, will keep them from powering down when the Mac does.

  • Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically

    Hi,
My Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically. Waking up via network is disabled and I use an Airport Extreme, a USB mouse (not from Apple) and a wireless Apple keyboard. OS X version is 10.5.8.
I have the Mac Mini since about 10 months now. Almost 1 month after I bought it, I had the this problem but thought I am doing something wrong or my wife has forgotten to turn it off
After a while it was OK. About 3 months later it startet waking up by itself again. I called Apple Care (although the 3 months support was over). They tried to help, but there was no progress. It waked up again and again. After about 1 month it was OK again without me having done anything, no installations, no system updates.
One week ago, the Mac found some updates at Apple and installed them. Since then I have again the problem! I contacted again Apple Care and again they could not help. They just want me to pay for an extension of the Apple Care package, although they could not help me in this case!
Now I want to try it myself getting support by people in this forum. I hope there is someone with experience about this case.
I am not much experienced with OS X, but I will try to answer questions that could help me resolve this problem.
BTW, I searched for a similar topic and found one ("My MacMini always wakes up from standby") but in that case the wake up feature is activated by the user. In my case this feature is deactivated, as mentioned above.
    Thanks
    Cheers

    Hi,
sorry for the delay, but I was on a business trip.
@Bsteely: Sometimes it wakes up immediately because of loosing connection to the keaboard when I send it to sleep. I suppose at the beginning of the sleep mode it into sleep mode, the keaboard connection is closed, then the keyboard "thinks" there is a problem and sends a message to the mini and the mini just wakes up again showing that the connection to the keyboard was lost but established again! This even happened as I had unselected the checkbox "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" in Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced.
But there are also times when the mini does not wake up so quickly. It just wakes up after hours. I had a look at Console.app as you suggested. Very weird to me indeed Well there I found something like "Wake reason = OHC2" or "Wake reason = OHC1". Unfortunately I cannot find older logs there.
@Boece: Hi and thanks for helping!
Well, I will try the update as soon as I can. By now I have no external harddisk to first save my data before doing the big update. But I am going to buy one soon.
Well turning off the monitor is OK, but the harddisk can wake up anytime while the mini is turned on as the OS might need to do something from time to time. And I don't want my computer to consume electricity even if it is such a small one like the mini. I'm a kind of green dude (but not from Mars ). And the sleep mode is interesting for me as I have very often many different Internet sites and some applications running, so I don't need to close them before turning off and open all of them again when turning on the mini.
Regarding other IR devices: The only IR device now is the keyboard. I even took out the batteries and the mini still woke up over the night!
Thanks again for your support guys. Please let me know if you have any further information of ideas.
    Cheers

Yes, that is correct. Apple products DO NOT support flash. Thank you, Apple.

I'm wanting to migrate certain applications from my MacBook Pro over to my newer Mini, but Migration Assistant doesn't allow doing this by choosing which applications to migrate-how can I pick only certain ones?

You only bought it four months ago, so it's still under warrantly.
Call Applecare or call your nearest Applestore to make an appointment. Tell them your mac has serious technical issues, describe them shortly.

Any recommendations for a flash player to watch videos and movies? I've tried opera mini per support but doesn't work.

Depending on what sites you are trying to access, you might find that some of them (probably more so if they are news sites) have their own apps in the App Store which might let you get some of the content that you want (and there is the built-in YouTube app). In terms of browsers there is Skyfire which 'works' on some sites - but judging by the reviews not all sites.

  • Intel Mac Mini wakes from sleep (for no reason) after installing leopard

My mac mini keeps waking after its been put to sleep (both by selecting sleep by hitting the power button or using the apple menu item.
This only happens now I've upgraded to leopard; with tiger, all was fine.
Any ideas what's going on? The iChat logging in noise blasting through my speakers at 1am last night gave me a bit of a fright!

This may be something like a driver, application or external device which is not fully Leopard compatible, or even a component of MacOS if you upgraded to Leopard rather than did a clean install. To start the process of troubleshooting, first download and install the full 10.5.1 update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html , even if you have already updated to 10.5.1 using software update. The full updater has been reported to resolve a number of minor issues.
Next, assuming that doesn't resolve it, start up your mini, put it to sleep and then disconnect everything. If it continues to wake unpredictably, the issue is with the mini itself, and you may be best to backup all your data and do an erase and install to resolve any residual issues caused in the upgrade. If, on the other hand, the system remains sleeping, it points to an external device being the culprit, in which case plug each one in, one at a time until you can create the unpredictable waking again. Whichever component was last plugged in, is the primary suspect!

  • Sound on iPad Mini for youtube videos doesn't work

iPad mini will play youtube videos just fine, but no sound. When accessed through facebook app, video tube, no sound. When accessed through YouPlayer, sound works fine. All other system sounds/music/etc fully functional. Nothing is muted, all volume controls that I can find are up.
    Any ideas?

Obviously a problem with those apps then.
    You can try this:
Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Mini-DP to HDMI doesn't work MacBook Air 2013

    Hey all!
    I've bought a iWantIt Mini-DP to HDMI/DVI/DP adapter. (This one specifically: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/pc-accessories/apple-accessories/apple-accessories /iwantit-imdhdd13-mini-displayport-adapter-21359616-pdt.html).
On my 2013 MBA running OSX 10.9.1, I try to connect to my Samsung TV via HDMI. The screen flashes when the HDMI cable gets plugged in, but then nothing happens after that. The TV doesn't seem to be recognised at all, and when I switch to the HDMI port the TV says there is no signal. I've tried all the, restart with the HDMI cable plugged in, plugged out etc but nothing like that has worked.
Does anyone else have any issues like this?

Then unless there's some newer/different setup in 2011 13" MBP (if so, I'd look in Displays), it sounds like a hardware issue, either with the cable or the MBP.
I would contact AppleCare, as you are still in your three month free phone support, and one year hardware warranty.

  • Mini Display port HDMI doesn't work? How to fix it it doesn't show neither video nor audio

    Hi,
I bought two days ago a Rocketfish mini DisplayPort to HDMI but I still cannot watch anything in my tv. I've tried everything. I plugged the HDMI cable in differents ports of my tv, I plugged it in differents TV of my house but nothing happened. I dont know what the problem is : the TV's, my MacBook Pro or the adapter. I went to system preferences > Displays but the it doesn't recognize the TV and in the other hand the TV doesn't recognize any signal. Help me plase to solve this problem.
    Thank you

I dont think is the cable because it works with my playstation 3. Does the size of the tv have any relation to the problem?
No, the size of the TV makes no difference at all.
I would try to exchange the adapter.
