Mini won't accept discs

I have a mini with a superdrive. There was a CD in the drive and the drive ejected it. Since then it will not accept any discs. The discs don't go in the drive all the way. The usual function, in which the drive "grabs" the disc and pulls it in, is not working.
The disc that was rejected was not in use when it happened -- and it was a standard brand I had used many times that had been burned on a G5 so it shouldn't have been a problem.
I have tried a restart, but that did not solve the problem. Any advice?

Welcome to Apple Discussions Barry
I agree with X5-655. It is time to get it looked at. If you have an Apple Store near you, take it in for the Genius to look at. This sounds like something is misaligned. It's probably always been that way, but now is more so.
My mini has never been "fond" of the install DVD that came with it. Recently, I wanted to do an Erase & install of the original software & it would not mount this DVD. It also wouldn't burn a CD anymore. I took it to the Apple Store yesterday & it is now in waiting for a new combo drive.

  • New mac mini won't accept dvd's/cd's in the combo drive

    Hello friends:
i have a new mac mini that I bought about 2 months ago (Intel, 2.0 ghz). Everything was working fine until I went to put in a DVD today. The combo drive won't accept a disc. It's not that it won't read the disc, it physically won't suck it into the drive. Instead it just sits there. If I try and push it in, nothing happens... it just bounces back out at me as if pushed by a spring. And, no, there isn't already a disc in the drive.
Can anyone suggest how to get my combo drive to work again?

    Hi jrm27,
I have an older Mac Mini 1.66 GHz, but I haven't seen this problem.
I take it that the disc does go in a little way. I would think that that rules out that the drive thinks there's a CD already in the drive. I know that when I have a CD or DVD in the drive, the little doors (they're really there) are closed and won't let me insert a 2nd CD.
I presume that you have restarted your system since this started to occur?
When the system is rebooting, hold down the mouse button. This is supposed to force eject a CD. It might also trick your system into thinking there's no CD there, or resetting something.
Try different types of CDs or DVDs, just to make sure that there's not something screwy with the media that you are using. Try an old-fashioned music CD or something.
Are there any sounds the drive makes?

  • My disc drive won't accept discs as if there's a disc in it

    Hello,
I am 99.9% sure there is no disc drive, yet my mac won't accept a disc. I went to Finder>Devices and sure enough, I don't see a disc icon. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Suggestions?

  • My iMac won't accept discs of any kind

I don't know when this started but for the last couple months my iMac has stopped accepting discs. I used to watch movies and burn cds all the time and somehow it just stopped working. Any tips or help on what may be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Is the disc inserting all the way, then ejecting? Or you can't insert a disc?
Does the superdrive show up in the system profiler?
You could set up another account profile and see if the drive works on that account. If so, then it's a software issue.
There might be something stuck in the drive? It's happened to me twice.
    1) My son dropped a coin in my iMac, couldn't insert a disc. I took the drive out opened it up, the coin had dislodged a spring causing the drive to remain locked in the "disc inserted position"
    2) A piece of label had come off in my iBook. The disc would load, spin then eject. Again found the label after I had taken the drive out and opened it.

  • CD/DVD drive won't accept discs?

I'm trying to play a DVD in my disc drive. I have an HP Pavilion slimline, model should not matter because it is just an issue with playing discs. It has the Vertical disc drive.
So I have the small DVDs that go in video cameras. There is clearly a small round circle that will accept them. I have played these types in computers with the horizontal drive. My issue is with this being a vertical drive and a smaller disc, it will not stay in the tray.
So should I not be bothering because it won't take these discs or is there some sort of adapter I need to make it stay?

Some drives have a lip or tab to help hold the smaller DVD's in place for the vertical operation.  Apparently that one does not.  The only solution that seems to be using an external DVD drives that lays horizontal.

  • Won't accept disc...

Why won't my iMac accept a disc in the disc drive anymore (I've checked and there isn't anything else in there)? Also, is there an external drive that I could get and hook up via a USB cable that would do the same thing as the optical drive?

    1.          Go into Spotlight from the top of your iMac on the menue bar.
    2.          And search for "CDs & DVDs" (It's also in the System Preferences)
Click on it and a small CDs & DVDs window will pop up with options of what happens when you insert a disk into the drive
    3.          By then, try inserting a disk in (while that window is open. This kinda wakes up your drive to accept the disk). It should accept it.
    4. If nothing happens, then manually open the program that should be opening when you insert the disk or go to Finder (Eg. if it's an audio disk, then open iTunes)
    5.          If opening the program still does not activate the drive to start spinning the disk, then close the programs and windows you opened, and repeat step 1-4 and the disk should be spinning and automatically opening the proper program.
Yes, you could get a USB external disk drive. (It's simply a device that reads CDs & DVDs except it's outside your computer and plugs into your computer through USB) I don't know what it's called but a simple Google search for keywords: external disk drive dvd rewritter superdrive
Apple sells one called SuperDrive. But I believe other brands sell the same device cheaper. It's just Apple's SuperDrive is really thin and looks tight. But you can get other good looking ones too.
    Hope that helps!

  • My mac mini won't read discs.

My macmini has stopped reading any discs.
They go in but just make a whirring noise. It tales a while to eject the disc. I have tried cleaning it with a DVD cleaning disc but it would not read either!!!!!

  • Superdrive won't accept discs, superdrive won't accept discs

last week i bought a usb superdrive for my new imac, and today after ejecting a disc it won't take a disc at all , makes no sounds nothing , plugged it into a diiferent computer and it ejected the disc i was trying to put in, but wouldn't let me insert one. i've checked that the computer is saying that there is a superdrive connected, but it comes up pale grey instead of black, and says no media present even though trying to insert disc.

A PRAM reset will not erase your HD. Because your machine is so new you should be callling AppleCare. You have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support. If you havne't already I'd STRONGLY recommend you buy AppleCare. This will extend the warrranty to 3 years and also give you 3years of phone support. It is also transferable if you have time remaining and buy another iMac. If you don't know how to contact Apple directly please click

  • PB Super drive won't accept discs

Thanks to anyone who reads this.
My PB's superdrive will take the disc into the drive, sounds like it is trying to mount it on the hard drive, then ejects it. I tried running disk utility (for grins), ran MacJanitor, I even tried the "sleep the PB and knock on the back of the SD" trick twice - no avail.
Is a trip to the Genius Bar in my future? And yes, it is out of warranty. I recently shelled out almost $400 to have the logic board replaced...time for a new mac?
    Thanks in advance...

My 2.5 year old PB 15" 1.5GHz has a Matshita DVD-R UJ-825 which has started to reject dvds, audio cds etc. I thought it may need cleaning to used the dvd cd cleaner which eventually it accepted after several tries. Doesn't like the dvd although sometimes it starts to accept it then the idvd software opens then crashes. I managed to take some word doc files from a data cd but it was thinking about it for a while.
I have carried out the previous advice:
    reset PMU
made sure all the discs were clean
let the machine cool as I thought the problem was because it was getting hot.
I live in Spain at the moment, bought the laptop in the UK. So we don't have any Apple shops for further advice etc.
Not sure what else to do?
    Any advice gratefully received.

  • IDVD won't accept disc.

Every time I go to burn a DVD from iDVD, it'll pop open the disc drive, and ask me to insert a blank DVD. So, I insert a 4.7 gig, 120 minute video Memorex DVD-R. But, the message "Waiting for device to become ready" will appear, and then it'll pop the DVD-R out. I've tried several blank DVDs, and nothing.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any idea what I need to do?

Im having the same problem but with fuji film DVD+R. and in the log i get this message
Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/MacOS/iDVD: The function CGSGetIntegerForCStringKey is obsolete and will be removed in a Tiger update. Unfortunately, this app, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
now anyone want to tell me what the **** this means?

  • My CD drive won't accept discs anymore.

What might be wrong with it and how can I fix it? I'm not covered by AppleCare and what I need to use the drive for is time-sensitive. Please help!

    ktmullaney,
if cleaning your SuperDrive’s lens does not help, and you are under a time crunch, then I’d recommend purchasing an external DVD drive to allow you to meet your deadline — a full investigation of your SuperDrive can wait until you have time enough to do it properly.

  • My Mac Mini won't accept a CD or DVD. The first time it happened I went for support and read someones response. It said that the external CD won't work when a certain USB device is plugged in. I unplugged the device, it worked. I forget the device. Help?

  • IPod mini won't accept new song updates from iTunes

I have today tried to update my iPod with a few songs, yet for some reason I have been unable to do so. I have recently downloaded the lastest update for the iPod and have got iTunes 6, so it is not an issue of out of date software.
At first, the error message appearing was that there iTunes could not copy to the hard disk, but now that has changed since i rstored the factory settings to the iTunes message saying that there is no space even though the restoring it deleted all the songs off the iPod. It has shown a message to put on an iPod selection playlist but since it has copied this on, i have found a number of songs unable to fit onto the iPod now despite them being fit on previously.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?
P.S. Previously there was a message that loaded up in my system tray saying a particular iTunes file was corrup, yet this has stopped appearing- could this have anything to do with it?

"It has shown a message to put on an iPod selection playlist but since it has copied this on, i have found a number of songs unable to fit onto the iPod now despite them being fit on previously"
It sounds to me like your iTunes library is larger than the storage capacity of your iPod because this is the message you see when that happens. iTunes then asks if you want it to create a playlist of songs from your library and transfer this to your iPod. It appears you said 'yes' to this.
If this is indeed what has happened, then your iPod is now full, and that's why it cannot be updated with more songs.
How large is your iTunes library and what size iPod do you have, the 4GB or the 6GB?

  • Pavilion G6 won't accept my new ram

Okay so i have a new Pavilion G6 ca-2288, has A10 APU in it 750gb HDD an 8gb ram.
So i was using quite abit of ram tho not more then 60% whenever i looked, but decided today id get some faster ram, so i got 8gb of 1866mhz with tighter timings then my stock ram. This to me seems to be no issue ive put the same ram and same brand into my moms and brothers laptops already my moms is very very old dual core hp pavilion and it took the same ram that mine won't accept....
Is this an issue from hp's turbo core? I noticed turbo core is installed by default and when i turn it off threw AMD Overdrive it just turns itself back on... what if i dont want it on why would it turn itself back on... anyways turbo core clocks the ram to somwere in the 8xxmhz range until it feels it needs to increase the mhz and same with my APU it will keep stock clocks until it feels a stock oc is needed and does so.
Anyways i got Corsair 2x4GB 1866mhz ram and would really like to use it in my brand new $750 laptop... considering my brother and mom have the same ram in theirs and all is fine i should also be able to... Brothers is a Asus moms is a Pavilion, the hp pavilion uses a athlon dual core still like its friken old so thats why i think its something to do with the installed turbo core that i cant turn off its frustrating.
Also this ram supposed to have a feature that auto changes bios since its laptop ram and laptops in most cases have to ability to change the mhz and timings so this ram when i install it trys to change the bios for me and it works on the Asus and old Pavilion but in my Pavilion G6 i think its causeing a issue with turbo core maybe.... help pls

I have windows 8 installed, doesnt tell me what version
When I'm on destop and drag the moust to the bottom left corner, and right click, then click system it opens a page similar to if i right clicked on "my computer" and clicked on properties.
On that page under Windows Version i get: "Windows 8" and nothing more then that.
Is probably just basic windwos 8 version, the BIOS did a self recovery after i installed the ram and it crashed, didn't allow the new ram still though, i gave up on trying 1866mhz ram and went to 1600mhz wich is what it had but this aftermarket brand atleast gives me some better timings and heat dicipation.
    Old RAM: 11-12-12-35 1600mhz
    New RAM: 9-9-10-24 1600mhz
So I still got somewhat of a performance increase, tho since I've got a AMD A10 APU installed in the laptop i would have much more preffered 1866mhz 10-10-10-30 timings that i was trying to put into the laptop before so i got speed and timings benefits for my aGPU to take advantage of but I was informed that most laptops dont accept 1866mhz ram, atleast most normal laptops, aparently only fairly high end expensive laptops are just now starting to accept 1866mhz ram speeds wich really kinda sucks they should be more flexible like a desktop... I was running 1866mhz long ago in my desktop how come laptops havent caught up in that aspect...? I'd be alot happier with my purchase had it accepted the 1866mhz ram. I was going to purchase a HP Envy M6 AMD A10 APU w/ Descrete graphics dual graphics until i discovered that it probably also wount accept 1866mhz speeds even tho its quite expensive...
Going back to custom built desktops were i can do what i want when i want. Cant beat that desktop power and felixibility.
