Mini won't play DVDs

Just got a Mini this Saturday and it refuses to recognize any DVD’s I have put in. It further has refused to install a few of my software CDs. Based on my search of the forums likely as not I will have to go back to the apple store with it.
Any other choices?
Imac, Cube, mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

This turned out to be more interesting than I guessed. The genius just shrugged his shoulders and said bad super drive. He said to just swap my machine for a new one. While I was waiting for my wife to bring the rest of the various sundry parts for the machine I asked if I could try the CD (Manga Studio 3.0) in one of the minis on the floor. I did try it and IT DID NOT WORK.
As you might imagine the genius went from disinterested to interested in nothing flat. He took the disk from me and tried it in one of the laptops where it did work. We then proceeded to try it on all the machines on the floor. The upshot is all of the laptops and the iUgly could read the disk, all other desktop machines could not.
We proceeded to burn a copy of the CD in the iUgly then use the copied CD over to the mini and it works great.
Needless to say very strange.

  • IMac won't play DVDs but will play CDs

For some reason my late '09 iMac won't play DVDs, at least not often. I was watching a DVD on it yesterday, left the disc in to go downstairs, and when I came back it wouldn't play again. It now doesn't even recognise that there is a DVD in it, but just spits it out again after a few seconds. I imported a couple of CDs to iTunes with it yesterday, it generally seems fine with CDs, but it has a big problem with DVDs. Any ideas on what I can do to solve this?

    Hi Marcus
It sounds like the DVD drive heads have gone out of position and the drive needs to be replaced. Contact your dealer or Apple.

  • Ipod mini won't play purchased songs after 2 days.

      Windows XP
ok this is really weird but my iPod mini won't play ANY of my purchased songs after 2 days of use. Then I have to hook it up to my comp and buy another song or download and then it will play the purchased songs. my mom has an ipod mini and doesn't have this problem. whats up with it?
    thanks!

finally someone with my same problem, it has been solved though! what you do is you hook the mini to comp and then clik on the mini in source list, play purchased song, and then it should work

  • My iPad mini won't play my music either and I have tried all the suggestions on the forum. I have no problem with my music on my full size iPad or my MacBook.

My iPad mini won't play my synced music. I have tried all the suggestions on the forum, but it still does not work. Also it crashes on the selected song selected. I have never had a problem with my other iPad or MacBook.

    What exactly have you tried?
"All the suggestions on the forum" doesn't really mean anything. It would be pointless for us to suggest something that you have already tried.

  • My mac won't play dvd's and the region won't reset. This has never happened before and I've never had to change the region

my mac won't play dvd's and the region won't allow me to set it. nVer had to touch this before. Has come out of the blue

Perhaps the lens is dirty.  Try cleaning it with a DVD lens cleaning disk, shoot some compressed air into the slot or use a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth) wrapped around a business card and insert it gently into the slot.
    Ciao.

  • T410 won't play DVD-ROM pc game

I recently bought a PC game and tried to install it, but it didn't work. Every time I place the game disc inside the drive, it starts making noise as though it were reading the DVD before falling silent once again. This process repeats several times until it just stops trying.
The problem lies within the disk drive; I was able to install the game on another computer without difficulty. It doesn't just end there; I tried to install several other games to test the drive, and all of them were met with the same process; running then stopping before even a menu shows up.
Is there a way to fix the disk drive without having to buy a new one?

The latest "it won't play on my pc" feedback is from a brand new laptop (the feedback being from the owner, not the laptop). I can get the specs on it if that matters, but your answer sounds like there is nothing I can do about it anyway. I always write to a -R dvd. Do you think a +R would make a difference? Thanks. - Pat

  • IBook superdrive won't play DVD it burned

We have a new iBook w/ a superdrive. We used it to burn a DVD with no problems except the iBook won't play it. The DVD will play in home DVD players and other Macs that we have tried but not in the iBook that authored the DVD (w/ iDVD). The DVD will mount - show up on the desktop - and the DVD Player app will launch but not play. Says it is an unsupported format or something like that.
    Any suggestions?

Did you use a DVD -RW?
In this case switch to -R, +R or +RW - sometimes DVD Player refuses to play DVD -RW media with the above mentioned error message.

  • Players won't play DVD

I've seen this problem discussed a little in this forum, but hope to get some more ideas. I made a DVD containing a manual-advance slideshow with about 20 TIFF files in iDVD that plays fine in the Mac DVD Player. But it won't play in either of our two DVD players -- an old GE model and a brand-new Panasonic model. The old one just says, "This disk cannot be played." The new one shows the opening screen with the "thumbnail" of the first slide, but when you try to advance it, the player says the disk can't be played.
I found one post that said manual-advance may not work, but I haven't wasted another DVD yet to try auto advance.
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1 Ghz G4, 512MB RAM

Have you tried all the buttons on the DVD player remote?
Manual advance slides are actually chapters.
That said, it's been my experience that some DVD players won't advance the slides.
Auto advance should be OK for you.

  • My mac mini will not play dvd's

I've owned (and loved) my Mac Mini for several years. When I first bought it, I tried to play dvd's, but they'd spin for a while and then pop back out. I bit the bullet and bought a dvd player anyway. I'm now in the process of getting rid of a bunch of stuff I don't need, and I'm re-investigating the possibility of using my Mac Mini to play dvd's. Do I need a new drive or new software?
    Thanks!

Which mini do you have? Mine is a few years old and it is very finicky when it comes to playing DVD's. Some play fine and just take a while to load. Others pop right out. VERY annoying. In your Utilities folder there is a SuperDrive Update program that will check for new drivers. Mine never found any though. Hope it helps.

  • Won't play dvds

    Hi
My Mac mini no long plays any DVDs! Running OS 10.6.7 on a 1GB Intel Mini bought in July '09. Help!
    Thanks in advance...
    D.

My computer mechanic was here a few days ago because I thought a new drive might help solve this problem with DVD Player not reading DVD-RW discs. I'd ordered an
    internal superdrive update.
His conclusion was that a new drive would not help.
Also, when Mac's DVD Player 5.2 plays DVD+RW discs, the closed captioning will not come up. This bothers me because I'm hard-of-hearing.
I downloaded VLC Player and it will play DVD+RWs with closed captioning. I'll make do with VLC until Apple updates DVD Player to play both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs and show closed captioning with both disc styles.

  • IBook won't play DVDs

Greetings everyone! This is what I've got. A G3/300mHz Clamshell iBook with a combo drive, running 10.3.9. It is an Apple combo drive and it boots, reads CDs and DVDs wonderfully. However, it will not play DVDs. I get a DVD Framework Error -70013. I have no idea what this is. I searched Google and the Discussion forums to no avail. The only thing I found suggested resetting the PRAM and that may help. It did not.
I also consulted the Gurus over at MacMod and they have no idea either. At first I thought perhaps 10.2 did not support an iBook with a DVD player, but even when I upgraded to 10.3.9, it still did not install the DVD player at all with the OS. I used Pacifist to pull the DVD install out, installed it, and received that error code.
I receive the same error code with the InterActual DVD player and VLC won't even load. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I'll just have to put a new MoBo in it.
Don't waste your time or money. You'd still be stuck with that tiny low-resolution screen and the wrong aspect ratio for DVD movies. The logic board from the slightly faster FireWire-equipped clamshell is the only other LB that might fit, though from what I've just read at iFixit, it won't. I doubt that it would do much (if any) better than the LB you've got, even if it did fit. A clamshell iBook just isn't the machine to play DVDs on.

  • Laptop reads but won't play dvds

I have a Toshiba Satellite C875-S7303. When I put a dvd in the drive, I can go into my computer it won't let me play it as a dvd. All I can do is look at the files on the dvd itself. It used to work then it suddenly stopped. Am I missing a driver or something?

Hi! I'm sorry but I'm not understanding what your problem is. Your saying your PC sees the DVD and reads it,but it won't play. What do you have on the DVD that your trying to play? Do you have other DVD's that you can try. Are you trying to play music or vidios on your player. If the problem is on all DVD's, then we can start from there. I'm not one to start changing drivers unless it's neccesarry. Have you tried any of the trouble shooting methods that are available and are on your operating system. W7 Or W8??. If you know when your problem started, can you restore to a earlier time when every thing was working??
PS If you want to see if you have the lastest drivers. Zip file made with PSR.

  • Intel iMac won't play DVD

I have an Intel iMac purchased in late 2009 and the superdrive has quit playing DVDs. It will burn all types of media and will play CDs and will read and install software CDs but will not play a DVD. These are new commercial movies. After inserting the DVD it spins for a few minutes then ejects. No error messages. Reboot did not help.

I mac Mid 2010 all latest sware and updates. Superdrive suddenly wont recognize presence of media. Ejects discs after a short while. Maybe coincidence but seemed to happen after an auto update and using of itunes match.

  • My iBook won't play DVD's

    Hi,
I am new to this forum (and to Mac's, for that matter), so I hope I have this question in the right place.
I bought an ibook last week and have been trying to figure out how to make it work. It has OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) installed(I do not have installation CD's btw, it came with Tiger already installed). I am loving everything about it except for one thing, it plays/runs CD great, but I can't get it to play a DVD. It says it has Apple DVD player, but when I try to start it up it says
+"The version of QuickTime installed in the Mac OS system folder used by Classic is not recommended. For best results install QuickTime 6.0.3 or later for Mac OS 9"+ (BTW what is "Classic"? I assume it's an OS?) I am not trying to run QuickTime am I? I didn't think QuickTime could run DVD's? And I have OS X 10.4.11! Oh and I have QuickTime v.7 already installed! This poor computer is very confused (and so am I!!).
Did the player not update when Tiger was installed? I am at my whit's end. I have downloaded updates for Apple DVD player and it says +"DVD player Update cannot be installed on this computer. Compatible DVD hardware was not detected; installation will not occur."+ I do see Apple DVD in my applications, but the update can't find it when it searches for the program to update.
Any help you could give would be most appreciated!!!! I have been working on this problem all weekend and can't think of anything else to try.
    Thanks!
    Lauren

It's not a driver that's missing; it's probably a DVD-capable optical drive that isn't there. Have you checked that out in the System Profiler?
Replacing the internal optical drive is a very complicated and/or costly procedure.
You may have better luck buying an external FireWire optical drive with DVD capabilities such as _this one_. (FireWire is preferred for the speed to play DVDs without problems.)
    Good luck with it.
