Minidisc to MP3 via Garage Band ?

Hi,
I need to copy some minidiscs to mp3. Can I do this (via a mini-jack to mini-jack lead) from the minidsic player to my Mac, using Garage Band?
If not, please can anyone suggest the best way of doing this?
Thank you.

Hi,
This morning I tried to record from a minidisc to Garage Band. At last I found some time to experiment. It worked, but kept stopping after less than two minutes, which is not very good since I have a 2-hour interview to transfer over. Please does anyone have any ideas?
Also, what’s a good compression setting for spoken voice / interview? There’s not much background noise, but the signal out of the headphone output on the minidisk recorder is a bit low. I can boost it ok using the compression gain. But don’t want to over-do it. Are there any meters anywhere??
Thank you!

"Have to import tunes individually as tunes will not retain individusl otherwise."  -- I don't understand this sentence.
iTunes will not assign track names to items imported from vinyl.  You will have to label the files yourself in the Get Info window.  As long as you give all the tracks on an album the same album information and the same artist information they should group together.  if the artists differ then you need to give all the tracks one common album artist (often "Various Artists")in addition to individual track artist.

Make sure you understand the difference between an Audio File and a GarageBand Project File (also known as GarageBand Song File)
The + sing in the My Songs page is for opening a GarageBand Project File, either a new one or one that is copied vie the iTunes File Sharing mechanism. If I understand you right, then you want to import an Audio File from your iTunes library in a GarageBand Project and not open an existing GarageBand Project.
To import an Audio File from your iTunes Library to an existing GarageBand Project.
Make sure you sync your iTunes Library (all songs or a selection) to your iPad. This is the standard procedure so you can listen to your iTunes Library on your iPad (this step has nothing to do with GarageBand yet)
Once you are in your GarageBand Project, tap the Loop Browser icon (the ribbon) to open the Loop Browser
The misleading part here is that this window can display three tabs, not only the Apple Loops. It also displays any synced audio file via the iTunes Fle Sharing (the tab is labeled "Audio Files) and also any songs that you have synced to yoyr iPad that I just described. This tab is now called "Music".
Look at the screenshot of my previous post. The Music tab provides the same browsing capabilities (Playlists, Artist, etc) as your iTunes.
Navigate to the Kareoke Song (audio file) and drag it onto a GarageBand audio track
I explain all those details and concepts in my GarageBand book
    Hope that helps

  • Can i isolate one instrument from an mp3 on garage band?

can i isolate one instrument from an mp3 on garage band? i want to be able to analyse the drumming from a few songs and wondered if it was possible on my imac

No, GarageBand cannot unmix an mp3. You need a program that can transcribe an audio file, like Melodyne. I think Logic can do that too, but I never tried Logic myself.
Unfortunately, these programs are rather more expensive than GarageBand.

  • Making an mp3 a garage band track

Is there a way to take an .mp3 song and import it as a track into garage band?
    Thanks

    Hi,
+Is there a way to take an .mp3 song and import it as a track into garage band?+
Yes. Just drag it to the Timeline. If it won't import, check to see if it's labeled MP3. If so, change it to mp3, and try again.

  • Using imic to transfer tapes to itunes via Garage Band

The problem is, the song file is way too big. Around 35-50MB
How can I make these files smaller?
Is there a way to compress them or import them differently.
Currently I am just using the 'import to itunes' choice from the Garage band 'file' which is convenient.

  • Dragging mp3s into garage band

Before I was able to do this and I could cut and edit parts of songs out or loop parts if I wanted to transcribe them. Now garage band wont let me drag and drop songs into it. I thought maybe it was because I have'nt updated GB for a while ( I was using GB '08) I just recently upgraded to GB '11 and still cant do it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

A DRM protected AAC song is a song with Digital Rights Management - you can only play it on a handful of devices, and you can't import it into GB. You can identify it by pressing cmd-I in iTunes, it will tell you it's a purchased AAC song or so. You can buy DRM free songs in iTunes, they are more expensive than the protected ones.

  • Recording Real Instruments via Garage Band

Hi, im hoping that this is a quick fix, some small detail ive overlooked. im recording with garageband, and have had constant issues which i have overcome at each step in the process. Right now im using a KORG M50 keyboard, and a microKORG, to create some cool music. Ive connected them to the MacBook via a M-Audio preamp USB Audio Interface. Everything is finally working alright. I have changed cabels, so that the level of feedback is at a minimum (i could hear the news being broadcast through the feedback of my old cabels), BUT it is only being played through the RIGHT EAR of my headphones. The left isnt getting anything. No sound being input, no sound being output. I want to be able to record on BOTH left and right. ive checked around preferences, and cant figure it out. PLEASE HELP ME!! im so close to being able to just record, and not have to worry about little hiccups like this.
any help would be extremely appreciated!!!

The question is whether your signal chain is stereo all the way through:
    • Is your synth sending a stereo signal?
    • Are you using stereo cables and adaptors all the way?
    • Are you using a stereo input in your interface?
    • Have you picked a stereo input in the Track Info pane?
For example, you could try to go directly into your MacBook's line-in and see if you get a stereo signal there.

  • Why can't I import Mp3 into Garage band

I have recorded a very small piece of sound and i want to edit it in garageband why won't it allow me to .  Mp3 is on the list of files , see pic below . Thanks , all this to demonstrate my computer is a noisy piies of kit , always 'rattling' ...

Try this as it works for me.
Take your project, drag the MP# to your desktop, create a new basic track and drag the mp3 to the new basic track.
I'm sure there are more elegant ways to do this but this works.
    Good luck

  • How do you convert MP4 to MP3 in Garage Band?

I downloaded an MP4 and loaded it into GarageBand, but after I added a new track to accompany the MP4 track, GB will not record on the new track...?

, but after I added a new track to accompany the MP4 track, GB will not record on the new track...?
Thi should work. At least it does in my GB version '11. What is your version?
Just to be sure - some basic things to check :
Is your new track a software instrument track or a real instrument track? It the type of the track does not match the type of instrument you are using (software or real) you will not be able to record.
Is the track ensabled for recording and the correct track selected?

  • How to import mp3 to Garage Band 3

i Tryied by draging it by impot option but its not working .

You should be able to drag it into the timeline - if it comes from an AIFF or WAV with the right sample rate. Otherwise you have to convert it to a 44.1 kHz/16 bit AIFF file in iTunes.

  • HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02

HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02 , i could do it in old version looking at the you tube video, now the screen looks different cant find how to do it. Can some one put up a video please
    Thanks

    There are three ways:
Use an AuPitch filter on the track
Or turn the audio region into a loop
Enable "Follow Tempo and Pitch" for the track and use the transposition slider (that does not always work reliably)
    To add an AuPitch filter:
Enable the audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences and then open the Smart Controls.
To add the AuPitch filter audio unit, click the Audio Unit button and enlarge the Smart Controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards.
click the Audio Units Brick and add the AuPitch filter:
Type the pitch change in cents (100 cents per half note step) into the text field below the pitch control.
To create a loop from the audio file:
Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library".
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample like a regular loo by changing the project key.

  • How to convert garage band mp3 to mp4a for iBooks Author

I wanted to share a quick and easy tip for converting mp3 audio fiiles done in Garage Band for a book in iBooks Author. SImply click  on the mp3 podcast and drag it into Quick Time Player and when the audio file comes up in Quick Time, export the file. The export will convert the audio podcast into the mp4a format required by iBooks Author. This file can be dragged into the media box provided by the Widget. Simple, easy.  I am getting ready to publish a book of 70 podcasts.

Jeanette... I believe you are talking about an M4A file (also know as AAC). MP4 files files are what Apple used to use in the iTUnes Store and are DRM (digital rights management). Being that iBooks Author only accepts M4A, it is what's you want to use.
If you have iTunes, you can use it to convert an MP3 to an M4A very easily. here is a YouTube tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7nZRjg7zMw
