Minidv camcorder with USB

Hi,
the new macbook has no firewire so i ask if there is any minidv camcorder with usb for importing video in iMovie 08?
It should be a minidv camcorder.
Michael

Thats not the problem. I have several macs with firewire.
The problem is that i have an 9 year old canon dv camcorder and for this certainly several tapes stored.
So i'm looking for a camcorder with tapes and HD .
My son, who also does some video editing on his macbook (2,16 with firewire) wants a new macbook witch has no firewire.
I know that i can import the video on my macbook pro, copy it to an external drive, connect that to the macbook. Fine, but you know how much time this will take.
Therefore my question for an hdv camcorder with USB video import.
I hope the manufactuers will come out with such a camcorder.

  • Need help finding MiniDV camcorder with AV in

    Hi,
I'm shopping for a MiniDV camcorder. Besides using it to make movies with iMovie, I want to be able to transfer analog video (i.e., VHS) into the unit. I understand that some MiniDV camcorders have an AV/in port for this. I'm having trouble finding such a unit. I'm looking to spend up to $500. Can you please lead me to one or two? Thanks.

  • MiniDV camcorder via USB not recognized in iMovie

I have the camcorder plugged in (power), and connected to the 24" iMac via USB, but iMovie or Mac can't see it. Any suggestions??

The only way to access the "Tape" content from a MiniDV camcorder is thru the "Firewire" port.
The USB is only used for pictures stored in the Memory card.

  • SONY HDR UX3E - dvd camcorder with usb connection

does anyone know how to get video out of those new DVD video cameras ?
First, do those new, mini 8cm dvds go into a PowerBook G4 SuperDrive slot?
This camera has a usb cord, so i'm plugging that into PowerBook G4 usb port. The volume shows up on my desktop, but clicking on it just brings up various files that I can't see thumbnails of or open with imovie, dvd, or quicktime.
my previous camcorder used a firewire connectionl. Does anyone have experience with the new SONY HDR UX3E camera and a mac? it is High defintion.
is there a way to hook camera up with Firewire? my manual doesn't mention it. does anyone have this camera, and use it with a powerBookG4??
    ay help would be appreciated

WARNING!!!! Never pop in any thing other than a standard size CD/DVD in your slot-loading Macs!
You will damage your optical drive severely. You can only put those things in a tray-loading optical drive.
Second, the only connection supported by Macs are FireWire connections for digital video cameras. (Unless something has changed recently, which I don't believe since I am a video editor--not professional--myself in my job).
The best cameras for Macs are the DV cameras. If you want HD, you can record to mini-DV. The hard drive cameras work too, but it takes multiple steps before you can start editing your video.
I'm not sure how to extract the video from your DVDs since they are encoded, but I will look for you. (Unless someone answers before I do).
Check your camera to see if it does have a FireWire connection. Some cameras have both, though Sony tends to use USB 2.0. Theirs would be called "iLink" for the FireWire port.

**your DVDs have your videos encoded in MPEG-2 format so you need an application that will convert that into .DV or .MOV formats so that you can edit in iMovie or Final Cut. (Or QuickTime). There are many third-party apps for Mac OS X that can do that for you.

  • Need an HD camcorder with USB streaming

    Hi all,
I need to track down a decent HD camcorder that can do USB streaming. So far, it looks like none of the Panasonic or Sony offerings can do this. I haven't looked around too many other places yet.
I figure this is the best place to ask this. I'd go for a USB webcam if I could find one with optical zoom, but I don't think they exist...
So, I'd like to spend about 500 or less. Let me know!
    Thanks in advance!

it would be nice to have such a beast...but I know of none ---the only thing that you will get close is a Black Magic Intensity Pro Shuttle that is USB 3.0, and then you can insert a HD HDMI, Component or Analog source into it.  There is no USB 2.0 device that will do proper HD PTZ that I know of. • Retaining date/time when capturing from miniDV camcorder in PRE8

Has anyone a solution to the following problems observed when capturing
video/audio from a miniDV camcorder with Premiere Elements 8:
    1) Even if "Split Scenes" is deselected in the capture dialog box - the captured video IS split into separate .avi files
    2) When inspecting the .avi file metadata only the date is captured correctly from DV - time is always 23:00Z...?  I have used other capture tools to verify that correct date/time is actually available in the captured video.
    Thanks!

  • Can video be loaded to ipad from any camcorder with a usb (video out) cord?

Using the camera connection kit usb adaptor, can video be downloaded to an iPad2 from any camcorder with a usb (video out) cord?  Would the video then be accessed via iTunes?

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101 :
iPad Camera Connection Kit imports most media files on the camera or SD card, regardless of whether that format is compatible with iPad. If you are unable to view certain images or videos, verify that they are in an iPad compatible format, or import them to your computer for viewing.
They should then be accessible from your computer, but not via iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

I connected a Sony miniDV camcorder on firewire port of a iMac late 2009 and Mavericks 10.9.2. Result: the iMac don't see the camera (I tested it whit iMovie 9 and 10).

    Hi
May be You find help in my old list ?
    NO CAMERA or A/D-box
    Cable
Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toggle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on <-> off some times)
Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK e.g. recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
Is the dip-switches set right ?
Set to same standard as recorded/editing e.g. NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    Try resetting it
    Connections
Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    External device’s (hard disk’s)
Should be FireWire as USB/USB2 performs badly and so does Airport or Net-work connected ones too.
MUST BE - Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - DO NOT WORK for video due to 4Gb barrier.
    Mac
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited. No Camera or A/D-box
GarageBands fix - Close iMovie, Open GarageBand, Play some notes, Close GB and iMove can now be OK
Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    White MacBooks - don't
    MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.

    Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.

over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After un-installing Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • What is the best miniDV camcorder to buy to export miniDV tapes to Macbook pro?

    Hey there,
I have miniDV tapes with home videos that I want to export to iMovie or FCP 5.0 so I can turn the footage into digital video clips to burn to DVD's.  They were shot on a Sony handicam that no longer works.  I bought a Panasonic PV-gs15 in order to do the job but it doesn't export video, only pictures from SD card. Now I just want to get the best camcorder or device (within financial reason) for the job.  Can anyone tell me the best way/Camcorder to get this video off these miniDV tapes and onto my computer please?

  • Sony MiniDv camcorder / New macbook Alum compatibility

    Hi all,
I've read some posts about the subject and realized it will be tough to import high quality video from my minidv camera to the new macbook.
However I wonder if someone could advise any external device that would allow me to import full quality video.
My camcorder is a Sony dcr-hc19e with Usb out, DV out and A/V out ports.
My macbook alum, as you all are aware, just has Usb ports..
I would import using Final Cut Pro 6.
    Thanks,
    Adrian Garcia

Any device that can output video to a Mac via USB should be able to do it at full quality. The type of interface doesn't affect the quality of data transfer, on the speed. So only when you're doing on-the-fly capture, as with an analog-to-digital converter box, would the speed of the interface really matter.
To the best of my knowledge, your camcorder cannot transfer video from tape to your Mac via USB. I fact, as far as I know no MiniDV camcorder can output video to a Mac via USB.
So other than purchasing a different camcorder, there is probably no solution for you for importing video into an aluminum MacBook.
    Regards.

  • Since upgrading to 10.8 my iMac can't see video files to copy across in Finder when connecting my AVCHD camcorder via USB

Hi, I usually connect my Panasonic AVCHD Camcorder via USB to copy the .MTS files across to my iMac for editing. Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Finder sees the directories for photos stored on the Camcorder but not the video directories/files. I can see them via Parallels. Any ideas why?
    Thanks, Julian

ML will show the AVCHD as a pkg, so you are not able view the directories like BDMV-->Stream-->MTS. You can right click AVCHD file, then choose show package contents. you will see BDMV, then you right click BDMV to choose show package, you will see stream folder, just do it again, you will find MTS files. Next time if you want to check the MTS files you just need to do above again. right click AVCHD....
Another way, rename AVCHD to AVCHD.mts then do it same with BDMV and Stream folder, it will let you see MTS files after that. Those mts files will keep showing on your mac next time.
    Hope it helps

  • MiniDV Camera with Video-In

I'm in the market for a new digital video camera. In addition to the normal chores of recording new video, I'd like this to be able to do the double-duty of assisting me in importing to digital format my VHS collection. I've often read that many digital video cameras have a video-in port that a VCR can be plugged into for this purpose, but I have not yet been able to discover which cameras include this. Having no luck on the web, I visited a local brick-and-mortar store, but they didn't carry any cameras with that capability, although they mentioned that they used to.
I would prefer to use a camera that uses the MiniDV tape format. If anyone has any specific recommendations, or if you can inform me how to figure out if a particular camera has this feature, I would very much appreciate it.

I think you will be disappointed with the camcorder's features and it received very low marks for picture quality on a number of review sites.
I agree with Matthew "You can't go wrong with Sony". That Sony DCR-HC96 looks pretty sweet. I would recommend returning the Samsung if you can.
Here's a Sony DCRHC30 MiniDV ($309) with all the features you need and should be comparable in price to the Samsung

Samsung is really at the bottom of the list for mini Dv camcorders.

I made a few videos edited with PremiereProCS5 and exported as H.264 Coding and .mp4 file extension, all side by side, with layout 1920x1080pixels that includes two stretched frames at 960x1080 pixels.
This is the same image layout that uses the Panasonic 3D consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", that record AVCHD videos with file extension .MTS.
I also tried to export another video as MPEG2 with .mpg file extension.
But at the store the tests failed, and I cannot see anything!
    My questions are:
    1) What format can be used by PremiereProCS5 for exporting the Stereoscopic 3D videoclip and play them via USB port on Panasonic TVPlasma3D such "TX-P46VT20"?
    2) What codec should be used? H.264? H.264-bluray?
    3) What file extension should have the movie file? .mp4?
    Many Thanks!

-I already read entirely those threads, but nothing about stereoscopic 3D AVCHD movies through USB port, on Panasonic TVPlasma3D.
(Also, Sony said me that is not possible to play 3D videos on your 3DTV through USB port).
I tried to made a H.264 videoclip, with .MP4 extension, at 960x1080p side-by-side layout, but nothing was displayed, and black screen.
I think that just the AVCHD movies, with .MTS extension, that comes from Panasonic consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", can play the 3D videos via HDMI cable, not USB port.
But not the exported videos from PremierePro via USB port.
I seen this tutorial from David K Helmly:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/dhelmly#p/a/u/1/_YtF0c2bmkw
Dave export the video from PremiereProCS5 as "MPEG2-bluray" format with "Match Source Attributes (HighQuality)" Preset, and build the Bluray Disc in EncoreCS5, with the footage as MPEG2 with .m2v file extension:
    1) Anyone tried to play correctly in 3D, those MPEG2-.m2v side-by-side files, in Panasonic3DTV, with BlurayDiscReader?
    2) Why MPEG2.m2v side-by-side?
    3) The official standard stereoscopic 3D format, is not the .MVC (MultiViewCoding) for Bluray3D Disc?
    I am confused!
    Help!

  • Using Sony High Definition Camcorder with Premiere Elements

My computer is a HP Pavilion Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU, [email protected] GHZ, 1.59 GHz, 1.99GB of Ram. It is used solely for music(SONAR and Band in a Box) and photo/video(Adobe Premiere) software and never used online. My computer says that in my C drive I have 159GB of free space, total 224GB. In my D drive I have 376MB free space, total 8.63GB.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, plus Adobe Premiere Elements for Windows XP. (Old versions, I know)
Up until now I've transfered and edited what I've filmed and created productions with no problem what-so-ever in Adobe Premiere Elements using my Panasonic MiniDV camcorder. I now have the Sony HD (high definition)Handycam HDR SR11 and it's much more complicated to get my recorded images transfered to my Adobe software.
I can't figure out how to capture from the camcorder directly into Adobe Premiere Elements? I'm having to transfer it to my computer hard drive first and then add the media to Adobe Premiere. I have to record in SD (standard definition) to even do that.
Also, I can't figure out why the images once tranfered into Adobe Premiere Elements, are playing back misshaped (subjects are either elongated or short and chunky)?
    Am I doing something wrong?
Doesn't my version of Adobe Premiere Elements work with this particular camcorder?
Is it just a matter of upgrading to a newer Premiere for high definition/standard definition camcorders to work? If so, which one?
    Thanks for any help!
    Carolyn

As stated by Peter use AVCHD Upshift from VASST or upgrade to PE7.
Also you need to set up your hard drives properly.
The best way is to have 2 seperate hard drives. One small one for the OS and all your other programms and another large one for all your work. Hard drives are never to be partitioned. This slows down the workflow.

  • Importing from sony miniDV camcorder

I have a new MacBook which does not have a firewire port. My miniDV camcorder (sony DCR-HC48) has a dock that supports both firewire and USB. However iMovie does not recognize my camcorder through the USB connection. Do I have to connect it using firewire? What are my options?

Your options are to return your Mac Book and get one that has a Firewire Port, like the White MacBook, or the MacBook Pro.
Apple accepts returns in the first 14 days no questions asked. After that, they normally don't but it would not hurt to ask.
Other than that, do you have a friend's Mac you could borrow?
