Minimac Vs Imac.....HELP!

I am trying to find out what is the best system for me and would appreciate any feedback that anyone can give me!
Basically I am looking for a mac that will run Final Cut 5 quickly and well, but am unable to afford a high end G5 powermac. Therefore I need to look at macs around the £1000 or lower mark.
Am stumped as to what to get though. Have been advised by some to get a minimac, but others tell me its hard to upgrade and I am better getting an imac. Which would be better? What spec do I go for? Should I go for a model with or without intel? There are so many out there! Can anyone help?

I think one important distinction is that the iMac Intel is only upgradable at time of purchase and is then a build-to-order fabrication by Apple, which is fully warranteed, but only returnable if DOA. The only part that is user upgradable after purchase is the RAM, anything else done by the user would void the warranty. If you want a truly user upgradable Mac, you need to move to the much more expensive Mac Pro line.
Intel-based products is all that Apple sells now. They ceased to manufacture PowerPC- based Macs with the intro of the Intels in JAN 2006. The only PPC Macs for purchase today would be very old stock from a 3rd party seller, used or possibly refurbished.

    Hi,
I also have a similar issue since upgrading from the 4s to the 5s.
The issue I have is, issue number 2:" If I do receive a text message/iMessage notification, it disappears within 5-10 minutes before I can even check (no other notifications disappear)"
Which also consists of the same events in the last message from monicash "So for example, if i get a text while sleeping... i wake up in the morning to check my notifications and there is nothing there because it disappeared (even though there should be a notification there with my current settings that are ON)."

  • IMac HELP... Upgrade memory on a 800 MHz PowerPC G4

    iMac HELP...
Upgrade memory on a 800 MHz PowerPC G4
I believe I can add more PC133 SDRAM memory to my mac, but have been advised that not all memory works, how do I know what works and what does not?
If you can use this link, here is a really good price...
    http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Name=pc133+sdram
Please advise, the last thing I want to do is buy the wrong memory and install something that doesn't work. THANKS!

    Hello,
    1. There are two slots as shown in the photos below:
The left one being the SODIMM "User" slot and the right image showing the DIMM "Factory" slot.
When Apple published the maximum RAM for the iMac 800MHz it was based on the fact that in both DIMM and SODIMM form 512Mb was the largest capacity on the market hence 2 x 512Mb = 1Gb max. If it is now possible to get a 1Gb PC133 DIMM then theoretically 1.5Gb could be the max but I have heard nothing to confirm that this actually works in an iMac G4.
Crucial always stick to Apple's specs and hence 1024Mb.
    2. I suspect that you have 1 x 256Mb PC133 168pin DIMM (factory) and 1 x 256Mb PC133 144pin SODIMM (later upgrade). You can check this by looking at the contents of J13/J14 memory slots in  Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info... > Hardware/Memory

  • Windows 8.1 on new iMac HELP??

Hi everyone! I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 on my new iMac  (Mavericks 10.9.4, late 2013 27") I went through the Boot Camp Assistant process, installing the support software, partition, & created an ISO disk from the Windows 8.1 DVD. I rebooted my Mac to start the Windows installer, and everything was going well until it came time to choose where to install Windows. I chose the Bootcamp partition and got the error that reads "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." What am I supposed to do??  Any help would be appreciated   Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this helps, but when you have begun to install windows and have selected the language and entered the serial, you should be asked to choose your drive? I am assuming this is the point at which you are getting the message?
If so, select the drive labelled bootcamp and then click the option for format.
You mean select drive, then Advanced Options, then select Format.

  • Please help... Linksys router and Imac help

I just switched to Mac, but I might be returning the Imac and getting a Dell or something because it's getting a little ridiculous.
My IP address on my Linksys router is not being recognized by the airport in my new Imac. It took FOREVER for me to get this to work and now it has crapped out 2 times in the last 4 days. I am about to take this new Mac back to the store and go back to a Dell.
Here is a basic description of what is happening:
When I do a diagnostic test I click on Airport and it is saying that the airport signal is fine (green dots), but it doesn't find the IP address. I select my network name that the Airport is picking up and still nothing. I can even get online by selecting a different wi-fi signal from someone that lives close to me too. It's obviously something with my Linksys router that does not work well with my Mac.
Also, even when my Mac doesn't get online, my Ps3 and 360 both still do so I know it is the computer/router that is the problem.
I try unplugging the router, modem, restarting...etc. but it just seems so wierd that it goes off like that.... It's also very annoying, because then I have to hear from my wife about that we spent $1500 on a computer that won't get online some of the time, when I can still get online on my PS3 and 360.
By the way, when I am not connected to the internet Safari will NOT let me put in the 192.168.1.1 in the address bar to get to my router settings. But I did check them from my PS3 and the "clone my MAC" thing is still enabled.
Apple's software update tells me there's no new software available for my machine, which leaves me with no idea what's causing this or how to fix it.
Any advice, solutions, or tips are greatly appreciated.
Can anyone please help me??? If this is going to be a continuous problem, I am taking the computer back and getting a new Dell or something since we mostly use the computer for the internet functions.
    Anybody please help???

    Let's double-check your iMac's AirPort settings ...
System Preferences > Network > AirPort
    o Location: Automatic
o In the left column, verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that AirPort is "On." Click "Turn AirPort On" button if not.
o Ask to join new networks: (enabled)
o Show AirPort status in menu bar: (enabled)

  • Blue screen of death with HDD Hardware Test error on iMac HELP!!

My iMac is not starting up.  It just get the blue screen of death during startup.  It is a 2.66 mghz duo with 2gb 800 ram.  I was able to get the Hardware test to run and got an error of 4M0T/2/40000004: HDD-1560.  I am assuming it is an error with the internal hard drive since I have nothing else hooked up to the mac other than the keyboard and mouse right now.  Does this code mean my hard drive is completely shot?  Any help would be appreciated.

    4M0T/2/40000004: HDD-1560.

You can have Apple replace the drive at a nearby Apple store or an Apple certified repair shop.

  • Sick iMac - Help needed!

    _My set-up:_
    24" iMac 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard drive
    15.4" MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB hard drive
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
    AppleCare
    _The problems:_
    1) My iMac will routinely, more often than not, have extremely slow connection speeds to the internet. I get sub-dial up speeds. Pages will often hang for extended periods before loading (even simple pages like Google) or will simply not load at all. When I can get the speed test page to load, it shows an extremely slow rate of speed. I have no other applications running at the same time. I test it out with the MacBook Pro and it blazes along as it should. (I recognize I need to take the speed tests with a large grain of salt. The number displayed on the test site simply validates what I am already experiencing. the other proof is in the glaring difference between the iMac and the MBP.)
I cannot understand this poor connection issue. The APE is about 12 inches from both the iMac and the MBP.
Not only has the problem returned but it is more consistent than ever.
    2) The iMac seems to have slowed down some. For example, when I click on my profile name it often takes 3 or 4 seconds for the text entry box to come up so that I can enter my password.
I have almost no data on there. I keep everything on an external drive. I have only a few other programs installed. I did a clean install of Leopard but the problem persists.
Normally, I wouldn't be overly concerned about a few seconds, but it wasn't like this when I first got it. This problem has arisen and I don't want it to progress to unacceptable levels. Therefore, I want to nip it in the bud now.
    _The Beginning of a Solution??:_
I took the iMac and the APE to my authorized service tech today (Simply Computing). Their tech tested the machine and verified that it is getting horrible connectivity in Leopard. He booted the machine from an external drive running Tiger and said it worked perfectly, as it should.
He said that he had done some looking on the internet and found slow wireless connections to be a common problem with new iMacs with Leopard.
He didn't say anything about the general slowness issue.
He suggested I call Apple and inquire about possible avenues to resolve the problem. The tech thought that Apple would first suggest replacing the WiFi card in the iMac, although he said that was pointless as it works perfectly with Tiger rather than Leopard.
I called Apple. I was on the phone for an hour and 1 0 minutes. All to no avail. The first person I spoke with told me it was impossible for the tech to run Tiger on my machine as you could not go backwards in OS's. The second guy tried to blame the third party RAM (as the machine shipped with 1GB and now has 4GB on it). I tried to explain that the tech said it passed hardware tests. At the end, Apple said they would call the tech.
I called the tech back shortly thereafter. He had gone home for the day and, if Apple did call (although the store said they hadn't), he wasn't there to take it. The guy I spoke with at the shop expressed some frustration with the Apple Support line. Anyways, he said if it is Leopard then it is a software issue and I'm on the hook for it. I asked how can I be responsible for a clean install not responding to the hardware. He said they would try to isolate it further, ie, switch hard drives and see if Leopard works. He suggested perhaps it is a bad sector or something on the drive. He said that sometimes disks scan and test as if they are fine but continue to not work. This problem can be isolated by switching the drive. If the new one works it must have been the old drive.
Ultimately, he said they were going to do what they could to take care of me. (It's worth noting that Simply Computing in Langley, BC, is an awesome shop to deal with. Always very helpful, informative and friendly.)
I am told to wait until the tech is in on Monday. He'll do some more checking, get in touch with Apple and see what's what. He also suggested I speak with someone at Apple higher up than Tech Support or Product Specialist.
    _More Info:_
I called a guy I know who is very experienced with Macs. He said the wireless thing is just a quirk with Leopard being a new OS and that I should just tough it out until a software/firmware release fixes the issue. He also said that some lag time is normal for Leopard to bring up the password entry box on log-in.
    _My Questions:_
    1) Has anyone heard of these types of technical problems? Any solutions or suggestions?
    2) Any suggestions for dealing with Apple to have this successfully resolved. I want my computer to work as it should.
    3) Are these problems actually problems or am I making mountains out of molehills? Is this stuff to be expected with the machine/OS or am I experiencing abnormal issues?
I am sorry this is so long winded... I am at the end of my rope. It is funny, this is my first Mac. I switched about a month ago from a PC because I was tired of all the issues that arose with it. I came to Mac to avoid some of these issues. I didn't come with unrealistic expectations that I would never have computer problems again. I just didn't expect to be told to suck it up; that it is part of the OS and it won't work right until future versions.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since the Airport Extreme is so close to the iMac, does the problem go away if you use an Ethernet cable (best if it's cat 5e or better) instead of wireless?
Another thing you can try is to open System Preferences to the Network pane.
All of your possible network services are listed in the left sidebar. Whatever service you are using, Airport or Built-in Ethernet, move it to the top of the list. You do this by clicking on the little gear icon below the list and selecting +Set Service Order+. You may want to restart.
You can also try removing services you do not use for networking, such as Bluetooth and FireWire (highlight service and click the minus sign). This only disables them for networking. Bluetooth and FireWire will still work for connecting devices. You can add them back later by clicking the plus sign.

  • Upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4 on a newly bought used imac - help!

    Hi,
I have just purchased a second hand imac powerpc G4 (700MHz) - which i love! - but that is currently running on OS X 10.3.9, and i would like to upgrade to v10.4. I am not very computer savvy (which is why i ended up buying the imac with v10.3.9 and not realising it would cause any issues for me!) and would like to know whether i need to purchase the upgrade version or the full version of tiger?
When i called Apple they informed me that they no longer sell tiger, but as far as i'm aware i can't upgrade to leopard v10.5 due to my system requirements, so i was told i'd need to look for a third party retailer. Question is, as i already have 10.3.9 on this computer (but do not have any of the original discs as I bought it used) what is required to upgrade it, and when I do, can I just erase everything on here (as it is all the previous owner's content) and start fresh??
A pretty dense question i'm sure - but any help would be much appreciated as i'm on a small budget and would like to buy the right software the first time around!
    Cheers,
    V

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A and M9639Z/A . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray).

  • External USB Hard Drive not recognized on iMac HELP!!

I am currently using a i5 iMac running Lion 10.7.5
I have recently partitioned a Verbatim USB external hard drive and uploaded all my footage from a wedding. This was done with no problems and the QT videos could be opened from the hard drive.
    A few weeks later, the hard drive does not show up in my finder. BUT it is recognized in disk utility. Here is a screen shot;
    So first I ran "Verify" and it told me to repair disk. After clicking on Repair, I got this;
It is giving me the error message "Invalid B-Tree node"
    Here is more info on the hard drive;

Can someone give me a step by step on how to get the hard drive working again? It would mean the world to me as this footage is priceless and irreplaceable.
OR can you refer me to someone (Geek Squad? Apple Store?) that might be able to help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

The error message invalid b-tree node size indicates that the directory on the disk is corrupt. The way that it can be repaired is to reformat as disk utiltiy says.
It is recommended that the data be backed up first before either of this solution are done.
Since it is not be recognized by the sytem at all it does sound like you can back it up now.
    Do you have a backup?
If you don't there is every chance you may lose all your data.
You can check to see if a data recovery service can recover any data for you. If you go that route you are looking at spending $$$$

  • My hard drive is slower than ever - Late 2009 iMac - help requested

I was testing my hard disk via BlackMagic Disk Speed Test across the network (for copying files from my MacBook Pro to my Late 2009 iMac, and I was shocked at the write speeds.
Because of this, I went to the machine and ran local tests, both BlackMagic and xbench. Suddenly I was horrified when I saw the performance for write operations well below the speeds I'd observed in the past. Luckily, I had saved xbench files so I had the ability to compare old disk tests. In the summer of 2013 running 10.7.3, this same hard drive had an uncached write speed of 116 MB/s [4K blocks] and 94 MB/s [256K block]. Now, the drive running under 10.9.5 is performing very inconsistently, with top speeds around 80 MB/s and averages more like 50 MB/s.
I cannot think of any significant changes to tools or background applications installed since that time, so I ran EtreCheck -- the results of which I'm pasting below.
Any guidance as to what I should test would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading! --
    Chris
    Problem description:
Hard disk slowed to less than half the speed from Mac OS X 10.7.3, as I am now on 10.9.5 and the speed appears to be roughly 40M/s uncached write down from 119M/s previously. I am using the same drive, memory and most of the same applications.
The only large difference is the OS.

    Hi Eric -
I did a horrible job of explaining *when* the slow performance became noticeable. These changes did not happen when I installed Mavericks, I just don't have benchmarks *saved* to give the support community exact numbers after Mavericks was installed. The performance at that time was roughly the same, although you might recall that the old app xbench no longer worked to give a comparison because one or more of the sections of testing wouldn't work (memory, if I recall correctly, although I will run it when I am back at that machine and post here).
In any case, the only significant change since the slow down is the OS, but the decline in performance was noticed in the fall. It wasn't until I tried this network copying task the other day that I decided to run BlackMagic's test. This is when I realized I should go check the performance on the local machine. Having already run through many of the generic recommendations, I thought perhaps someone here who has a much deeper understanding of the storage abstraction layer would have guidance on specific preference files that might be corrupted since I can't find any tool to check them. I've noticed that many of the people seeking guidance are not very technical and the advice is similarly geared. I'm sure I could spend a little time this week finding comparable tools in Mac OS X to those I'd have used in the past on Windows (Sysinternals) to do real time debugging and process analysis.
So far I have found that there were a few processes running high, like the dashboard client, so I moved (deleted) the preference file and rebooted. This resulted in the gain to that 60 MB/sec write performance (up from the low of 40 MB/sec), but there must be other areas yet unexplored.
At this point I'm considering a fresh install, but I'd been told in previous exchanges when I first started developing on Macs (2008) that fresh installs were rarely the best solution on Macs.
Can you give me guidance on that? You probably know that in the Windows world it is often (depending on how you define often) necessary to format and reinstall the OS. As a long time systems architect developing everything from device drivers to enterprise solutions, I see that as a result of the attempts to maintain legacy support for so long and the convoluted resulting APIs and failure to make real fixes for fear of causing problems with older hardware and software. Would you suggest erasing and reinstalling?
@BobHarris - I know that's a problem and it's why I monitor the drive more than I do drives in other systems. My drive didn't qualify for replacement, but I think Apple doesn't always do a good job with the recalls. I was very fortunate that my old white MacBook qualified for quite a few replacement parts so it's a great browsing-the-web computer now, but at its age, it isn't capable of running most of the apps I need. I have considered selling the 27" iMac but when I last had it in for warranty repair, the DisplayPort was misaligned to the case, so I'm going to have to pay labor just to get it popped open to fix that (since the service center says they didn't cause the DP problem - although they must have!)... In any case, if I have to spend that money, I might as well use the drive doubler kit since I never use the optical drive in that box anyway. Mostly I love having it because of the gorgeous big screen. That being said, costs of repairs are silly when I can just buy another used MBP circa 2012 and get twice the processing power then use a CalDigit dock like the one I use with my existing MBP to use an inexpensive HD TV for the monitor.
Thanks for the replies folks - the input is awesome!

  • IMac Help - won't start up in OSX, starts to text...

I was wiping my hard drive so that I could give away my old 20" white iMac G5. It worked fine the first time using the OSX Installation disk, but someone told me I should do it several times to be sure to remove all the data in the binary. So I did it a second time and that worked fine too. I decided to do it a third time so that I could put the new person's info onto the computer and I got a disk error during the re-install. It asked me if I wanted to "try again" so I clicked yes, but something bad must have happened...
Now the computer won't start up in OSX and it won't boot from the disk (even if I hold down the C key). When it starts up, first I get a gray screen with the apple, then I have a quick flask of a tiny file folder with a question mark, then a quick flask of the same file folder but this time with the Mac face graphic, then the screen goes black and there is a bunch of white text. I can post the text if it will help - at the very end it says something like: localhost:/ root#
I tried calling apple and they just told me to turn off the mouse and keyboard and try again - didn't work. I have tried to boot in safe mode, I have tried to reboot from the start up disk (it just ejects the disk), I have tried to reset the PRAM, nothing is working. I do not have any peripherals other than the mouse and the keyboard (I had to go out and buy a new wired keyboard today just to push the C button to try to start up from disk since the wireless keyboard wasn't being recognized).
I have searched all the support docs and nothing seems to work or be just right. I am not an idiot, so if I need to type in a bunch of code that would be fine, just tell me what to do! Otherwise, I am hauling this beast into the so-called Genius Bar.
    Please help!

So hooked the iMac up to my MacBookPro as a firewire target disk and ran a disk utility on it overnight. It didn't fix the problem completely, but it didn't get worse. Now, instead of the black screen with white programming text, I get a gray screen with a flashing question mark (a file folder that flashes between the mac face and a question mark) this time it just keeps flashing (unlike before where it only appeared once).
I have tried resetting the PRAM, the NVRAM, and I have tried resetting the SMU (thanks for the advice, Barry, I was hopeful about that one!) but nothing is working. It won't let me start from a disk, even though I have checked the disk in another computer and it works fine. I am thinking that the computer has lost the ability to recognize the disk drive.
Is there any way to re-install the operating system remotely (via my MacBookPro or anything else)?
    Thanks again for any advice!

  • Something is wrong with my imac, help

I'm not sure how or exactly when this started, probably a few days ago but my imac is running slow. I ran disk repair & repair permissions and all is OK. When I click on a folder in the finder window it takes several seconds before it opens. Also, and most annoying, I can't seem to be able to rename anything. I have jpg photo files on my desktop I would like to rename but it won't let me. I cannot figure out what is going on. Was there an update recently that may have caused this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Major Problem with kernel panic on new iMac: HELP!

My housemates 24" core 2 duo imac kernel panicked when playing Call of duty 2 (side question: if anyone has any reason why it keeps freezing and the screen getting full of horizontal lines would love to hear from you)
Now I can not start the computer. Whenever I restart, it plays the chime, but then has another kernel panic. Spoke to apple.. i reset the pram.. and then it came back.. ive zero data deleted my hardrive then re-installed osx.. and it is still doing it!! (i ran hardware tests and said everything was working fine..)
The graphics card is nvidia 7600GT
Also.. When starting up the imac, just after the apple logo white screen turns to the desktop, the screen flashes a lime green for a split second.. i know that shouldnt happen!
It wont let me send a report to apple wen i get a window saying "imac shut down unexpectantly".. when the button clicks.. no report comes up.
The operating is a 24" 2.16 Ghz iMac intel 2 core duo, 1GB RAM!
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I had the same problems. New iMac 24" arrived last week (a replacement because the first one had a faulty screen and keyboard). Set it up at the weekend and it seemed fine for 48 hours until I started watching a DVD on Christmas Day. About 2 minutes into the DVD I got a kernel panic, then the computer would not restart. I left it about an hour and tried again. It started successfully, but had another kernel panic when I opened the Dashboard. Again, it failed to restart. I think that something is overheating whenever the computer tries to do any 'work' and then it crashes. I too got panics when trying to boot from the installation disc. Spoke to customer support over the phone and nothing we tried worked, so I've had to send back for another replacement system.

  • Old 24" iMac to New 27" iMac  Help Please

+*Please some advise and help?+* I have a first generation 24" iMac and have ordered a new 27" Quad Core. I would like to transfer over my information the cleanest way I can to avoid any garbage on the old computer making its way to the new. My plan was to transfer the data and user settings only via Migration Assistant and reinstall all programs from original disks. I am NOT experiencing any problems with any programs on the old machine at this point. Is it then overkill to do the transfer as two separate steps? Will my old Network settings come over? I'm using an Airport Extreme which is also being used for Time Machine. What about my iPhone Sync? Once I transfer data to the new computer, will my iPhone Sync?
Is there any utility program or programs I should run prior to transfer to clean out anything?
    Thanks in advance for help
    Steve

When you get the new iMac, I would use it +as is+ for a while, to make sure it is working 100%. If you transfer things immediately, and have some issue, it is more difficult to determine the cause. So go through Setup Assistant without using Migration Assistant, then run Software Update to apply Apple's recent updates, then use the iMac until you are satisfied it is working perfectly.
If you want to use Migration Assistant, you can run it from Applications/Utilities/. On the screen where you select what to migrate, I would only select Users. I would not use it for +Applications, Settings, and Other...+ That should transfer your user data and leave out everything else.
If Migration Assistant successfully transfers your iTunes folder so that iTunes on the new iMac looks like iTunes on the old iMac, your iPhone should sync as before.
Is there any utility program or programs I should run prior to transfer to clean out anything?
You may want to go through the files and folders in your user home folder, if you believe there are a lot of files you no longer need. Just do it with Finder. The Downloads folder would be an obvious place to look for old files you no longer need.

  • Major start-up problems on IMac - Help, please

My IMac, new in Nov. 2008 and running OS 10.5.5 has been having trouble starting up and staying running over the past 10 days or so. I frequently get freeze-ups and get the grey screen with the flashing folder with a question mark during start-up attempts. I have tried various remedies I got on forums or in the Everything Mac manual including:
    unplug and restart
    remove peripherals and restart
    safe boot
    Reset PRAM
    Reselect Start-up Disk
    Permissions Repair through Disk Utility
    Verify Disk through Disk Utility
I ran the hardware test and it said the hardware was OK.
By doing one or another of these methods I can generally get the machine going again (sometimes very slowly and after a few tries), but the freeze-up and restart problems are persisting and getting worse. Today I tried to reboot using the Installation Disk, but it just ejected the disk.
I have Windows XP running with Paralels - don't use it often. Last time I tried it said something about a Fatal Error.
I have backed up most of my important data. I was planning to buy an external hard drive to back up the rest, but I'm not sure I'll be able to complete this at the rate things are going.
Advice, please? Should I just break down and take it to the Apple Store?

I wanted you to know I have been using Apple computers for over 2 decades now and this iMac was the biggest headache EVER!..it would even turn ME to a PC but I have other plans. How many times I had to carry this thing 15 blocks and then they had the NERVE to hand it back to me,once all they did was reinstall the software, I could have done THAT AT HOME!..once the manager of the store hands it back to me,"ALL PROBLEMS SOLVED"!..well they were not..from day one, this was a "LEMON" and no one seems to care, not one person I speak to, not one person in that store....I know computers pretty well, I don't know HOW to write programs but anything other than that, people come to TONY with their problems before Apple Genius bar..what a JOKE that turned out to be!..so here I sit with an iMac,the insurance had run out the day the HARD DRIVE of this iMac decides to stop working...I have NEVER in my life had a dard drive break completely because I am not a heavy user of my computer, no games..and now it's down to emails and my blogs..Apple has changed me but in the wrong direction sadly..I am and always will be an Apple person...I can visit ALL my old Apple comp0uters because when I get a new one, I give my neighbors the old ones..they are STILL WORKING lemom iMac just to check emails and see if I can get it to work but I will tell you the bad sign, very first year I had it, I threw out the box it came in,I live in NYC and as I am taking a walk, a guy is throwing out the box to the SAME iMac..and THEN came the discussion with him about the numerous PROBLEMS On the NEW iMAC!!..I knew right there ,besides me knowing already, it was one big lemon I was stuck with till the end...well the END has finally, thank the gods, come!...and my next computer will be an Apple but not for STYLE, I always went for their great design but Apple has their head so far up an appendage and all about this iPad and iPhone and then the computers come next....believe me, when they sell that many iPhones and iPads...little is done for the real computer customers..and I have NEVER used a cell phone, never had the use for it, so NO iPhone and no iPad cause i love my Kindle...but I will tell you ,I am designing my next Apple computer and it will be that TOWER and then any size screen, maybe two for some reason...and all wireless if possible..but that tower is the ONLY way to go for me but I will use it "low end" not for a business and it's not that ugly and can always be put on the floor BUT YOU DESIGN AND TELL THEM, what you want in it, so you have total comtrol..the screen does NOT even have to be an Apple...but money money drives this company now, while in the past it was the true happy customer THAT MATTERED!! no more...hope you stay with Apple, get a PC(borrow one) and work with it, if you have not cause this iMac is NOT the way an Apple computer should act and turn you off to our community...and that's the other thing, Apple users, used to be a "community" cause we were the "small company that didn't make it"!...so we all stuck it out for so many years....helped each other out
    Cheers..
