Minimised document window issue.

InDesign CC: How can I stop minimised document windows from automatically reopening when I open or close another window?

Hi
Ok, are you minimising them to the dock (by clicking the amber "traffic light" at the top left of the window or using cmd-m? If so, that's the probaly macOS restoring them when you switch back to the app.
Why not try turning on the application frame (window > application frame) and having your documents in tabs instead - it is a much cleaner way to work if you have to keep loads of documents open. They are still occupying space in memory after all, even when they are minimised.
Having said that, the application frame isn't to everyone's taste but do give it a try!

  • Type Tool/black document window issue.

When I use the type tool in PS CC, the document goes black and becomes unuseable, what's up? (WIN 8) I found some mention of flickering problems in WIN 7 but no changes in my graphics performance software settings helped...

    I suspect a damaged install.
Let's do an uninstall/reinstall. Be sure your account has admin privileges.
    Uninstall CS6, checkmark "Remove Preferences"

  • Microsoft Word templates move and hide document window

Often when I open Word for Mac, the toolbars have moved to strange locations on my screen and will cover the document window's top portion so that I cannot even move it. Is there no way to force Word to memorize the locations where they were last left?
    Anybody else have this issue?

You must be speaking of Office 2004 for Mac. Floating menus is one reason I never liked office 2004 for Mac or for that matter any software employing this technique.
You can dock some of the toolbars to the main toolbar on Office 2004/2008 however not all can be docked. You are right, they get annoying and especially need to be moved from time to time to get to the window behind them. I don't know of any way to set a permanent location for the toolbars.

  • Document windows jump

I just upgraded to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro running a dual monitor setup (MacBook & Cinema Display) and now when I have my document window on the Cinema Display if I do any thing such as select an object etc. the window jumps so its top half is on the lower part of the screen while the bottom half of the window goes off the bottom of the screen. If I move it back up it just jumps back when I try to do something again. Help!

I have the exact same issue CDLeaver, and think this might be a bug, where a retina display laptop is connect to a non-retina second monitor.
What I discovered is that when I move my secondary screen so that it is positioned above the primary macintosh screen, the InDesign document window on the second monitor continuously repositions itself, it continuously jumps when you move it into position and then start working on it.
Once I lined up the tops of both monitors in the System Preferences > Display Preferences, the problem went away.

  • 2nd Document window not closing

    I have 2 Document windows,
    - win1 is parent window.
    - win2 is a small window with 3 display fields
and 2 buttons OK & Cancel.
    - other setting for 'win2' is
    Modal = 'YES'
    Close Allowed = 'YES'
i have problem with Cancel button code, i am giving
    if :SYSTEM.EVENT_WINDOW = 'WIN2' then
    GO_ITEM('CTRL.FLD5');
    HIDE_Window('WIN2');
    end if;
    The WIN2 is not closing,
i am calling this 'WIN2' from a WVI trigger of a field on parent window 'win1'
    by issuing SHow_WINDOW('win2') command.
but it flashes error FRM-40737: illegal restricted Procedure SET_WINDOW_PROPERTY in WVI trigger.
    Any one please suggest. TY.

    hi Sarah,
i dont to know to which item's WVI should i atttach this code.
Since the window Closed_Allowed property is set "yes".
the same code given at Form-level When-Widow-Closed, works well, closes the window in 1 click.
but i dont know the same code given for Cancel button, does not close 'win2',
One more point, first time when win2 is shown, that time, out of the [x] button on the status bar &
Cancel button on win2, if i use [x] button first, then 'win2' closes and cursor is back in CTRL.FLD5 on 'win1', fair enough.
then afterwards from CTRL.FLD5 when 'win2' is called again then the Cancel button code works fine just like the [x] button.
but the question is why not first time, if i choose Cancel button first. why it is required [x] button to be used first.
    So the problems are;
    - FRM-40737 is thrown whenever win2 in invoked from CTRL.FLD5
    - 'WIN2' does not close by pressing Cancel button, when displayed first time.

  • How do I tile the Dreamweaver panels and document windows to tile instead of being superimposed?

How do I tile the Dreamweaver panels and document windows to tile instead of being superimposed?

I'm not sure what may be causing your issue on the right side of the screen, other than possibly your application frame is wider than your screen size so you aren't able to drag the window tab far enough to get the highlighting effect. Make sure your application frame is maximized to your screen by hitting the middle button in the top right of the window so it changes to the double square icon. That way, you'll know whether the edge is off screen or not.
Only certain windows can be brought to the top or bottom since those are reserved for toolbars and the Properties Inspector respectively.

  • Document window sizing/position on opening a file

I use a custom workspace with all the CS5 apps that I use (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver), with a dual monitor setup. I prefer to have the Control bar at the bottom instead of the top and the application bar always off, so that there's nothing at the top, except the document itself. I also have the majority of the palettes open on the other monitor and a select few placed over to the right side of the primary screen.
The problem I'm having is that document windows keep trying to open full-screen on the primary screen, instead of fitting into the workspace area for them. I keep having to resize them before I can work on them. I'm having this issue with CS5 documents running on Snow Leopard. I didn't have this issue with CS3 running on Leopard. I've tried resetting all manner of prefs, to no effect.
Any ideas what's causing this to happen? TIA

I tried both and at first the xlsb file was hanging but I logged off to try other things under my account then logged back on again and it opened though pretty slow. I tried from my account as well and it is very slow but does eventually open. Under the
users account I copied the file to her desktop and it opens with no problem. The permissions are the same on all similar level folders yet the user can open Excel files from them with no problem and even larger than the problem files.
Edit: My mistake, the green progress bar happens on other folders as well. Talking with one of the senior IT who installed the system, this user is the last person of a chain from microwave>switch and fiber link>another switch and fiber link so just
may be a physical issue though from my experience the one folder 'seems' to have the most trouble in opening the Excel files.
Also tried disconnecting the network drive then reclogging to let the scripts recreate it. No luck with that approach either.

  • Is it possible to make the document window not to hide behind the palettes?

Is it possible to make the document window not to hide behind the palettes (layers, paths etc) like in CS5? For instance if I want to make a correction in the right part of the image and zoom in, the window expand under the different palettes and I can no longer see the area which I want to correct without change the document window size. I don't want to use the Photoshop application fram because then I can't see stuff in other applications ID, mail an so on.

I have written about how to control various font sizes in Thunderbird here:
    http://www.ramsden.org.uk/9_Type_sizes.html
Generally, you shouldn't need to zoom; you can pre-set the display of message text.
To get straight to the point, you should probably try the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ add-on to address issues with the size of the message list font.

  • Dragging Document Windows - (Always On Top)?

    PS CS4 - latest
A few times, I've dragged a document window over(on top of) a set of panels (layers, channels, etc). Once I let go of the mouse, the title bar of that window (the draggable bar) is placed behind the panels (I'm in standard screen mode). Most of the time this isn't an issue, and probably because I've never dragged a small enough document window over a panel set for this to be an issue worth asking about (all times before, the document window was wide enough to extend out behind the panel(s), so I was still able to click on the title bar. So, after moving this small window and letting go of the mouse, the title bar is completely hidden behind the panel. I know I can move the panels around and/or minimize the panels, but I'm wondering if there is a setting where you can have your document windows (always on top) of other panels?

If you loose a window behind your panels just hit the tab key which hides all tool bars and panels, drag out your window and hit tab key to make your tools/panels visible again. Panels will always be on top of windows.

  • Can only see one document window at a time

I am using Illustrator CS3. My document window is always full screen and lies behind the app bar so therefore I am unable to change it's size, see other windows, move it to my other screen etc etc, very annoying! I don't seem to have any cascade or tile options under the window menu either, is this something wrong with my application? Seems so to me. Any ideas much appreciated.

    You are welcome, CC.
There are different ways of doing almost anything in Illy, even getting rid of preferences.
However it may make a significant difference which way is chosen.
The simple deletion through Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift at startup may solve some issues, as may the corresponding simple deletion of the aiprefs file in different other ways, but it is irreversible. This means that if deleting it does not solve your issue, you have lost your preference settings in vain, and you have to recreate them, just as you have to recreate lost artwork.
The moving of the folder solves a wider range of issues, and it is reversible; similarly, files/subfolders therein may be moved. This means that you may just restore your preference settings if the issue is not solved, with nothing lost in vain.
I made the Move the folder hint as an easy reference in the days of the fair forums, because the FAQ only mentioned the simple deletion, and because users had to spend a considerable amount of time recreating aiprefs file preference settings, sometimes lost in vain.
Since then, in newer versions, some of the preferences were moved to other files.
This means that the newer the version, the less is lost by the simple aiprefs deletion. On the other hand fewer issues are solved.
Moving the folder, or files therein, was and is still superior to deletion in terms of avoiding loss and solving issues.
Usually, I mention both ways, unless deletion has already been tried in vain.

  • How do I get more space in a "Documents" window?

I wonder if someone can help me with this. I recently upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.9. When I open, for example, the "Documents" window and find the page is full with folders/files I place the arrow cursor in the bottom right hand corner and move the window up. I then pull the scroll bar down, place the arrow cursor in the bottom right hand corner and pull the window down. Under 10.3.9 the folders/files would stay where they were and I would get more free space. Under 10.4.9 it doesn't do that; pulling the window down means pulling everything else down as well. So the window remains full with folder/files all the time. Is there a way of changing it as it was under 10.3.9?

Open the window, hit the end key, and expand the window, via the lower right-hand corner triangle. Works here and always has in Tiger. If that doesn't work on your machine, then I suspect a corrupt preference file. Create a new admin user account, log into, and see if the problem exists there. If not, then it's one of the preference files listed in the new account's /Library/Preferences/ folder that's screwy. Make a list of them, log back into the old account, move the same one's, one at a time, to the Desktop, OPTION-click the Dock's Finder icon, and select Relaunch. Do that until you isolate the one's that are causing the problem. Start with the com.apple.finder.plist.

  • Firefox 4 is not appearing in Task bar or some times it is Disappearing from task bar when i am minimising the window. so, i had to go to Task manager and find the icon. Its becoming big messy if tabs are not found , to switch programmes.

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site?

  • Different minimised documents in different spaces.

    Fellow Mac lovers.... help, please!
It would be a great help if, when I minimise a document, it didn't appear in the Docks of all the differing Spaces I have set up on my computer. In fact, I would like to be able to have differing minimised documents available in Dock of differing Spaces. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I did download a neat program, DockSpaces, that allows you to have multiple docks, but it doesn't seem to allow having different minimised documents in the differing docks.
Any suggestions or ideas on this would be very gratefully received.

there is certainly no built in way to do it. In fact Dock Spaces is the only program I've ever heard of that allows you to have different docks in different spaces. if it can't do it, it's impossible.

  • OpenGL enabled document Windows error message? Please help

    Hi
When I am trying to use the rotate tools inside photoshop, I get a the NO sign with an error message: "Could Not Complete Your request Because It Only Works with OpenGL Enabled Document Windows". I don't understand why this is happening. I have an OPenGL Graphic card. Qudro K600 and every thing seems okay under the Performance section in the Preferences menu? I would appreciate any help? Thank you.

I thank you for your respond. Like I mentioned everything seems okay under the Performance section. Photoshop is recognising my Quadro K600 graphic card and all options are checked, and I am getting the above error message. It's annoying as I can't use the Rotate tool inside Photoshop or on my Wacom tablet. I also uninstalled my Graphic card driver and installed the latest driver. I hope someone can resolve this problem for me? Thank you.
