Minimising Games, and Losing Focus on HP Pavillion Phoenix h9-1191ea

Hey, I recently bought a HP Pavillion Phoenix h9-1191ea Desktop PC and everytime I have a window open, it'll lose focus on it after a few minutes, and in the case of games, it'll minimise them completely. I would expect to see an error message, or another window after attention, but there's nothing. It returns me to the Desktop without a hint of an explanation, which means that I have to select it's icon on the Taskbar to continue playing. In the case of online gaming, this is particularly annoying. It's starting to drive me crazy.
Any solutions?

Hello AHook22,
Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes threads can get lost and fall off my radar after a while.
I don't think this is a hardware issue, but it's all the more likely that it could be. Before we can point to a hardware failure we have to rule out all software.
By putting the computer into a clean boot state we removed any third party software from causing the issue, but it could be the operating system itself causing the issue.
You may want to consider doing a recovery on the machine and starting over from scratch software wise. Then don't add anything else to the computer and see if the problem continues.

  • Change the Apple ID for a game and not lose the progress made?

    Short version of my question: can I change the apple id associated with a game to another one and not lose the progress made in the game thus far?
    Long version: when there were only a few iGadgets in the house, all games and music were downloaded through Alpha's apple id and the credit card tied to that account. Now, we two folks have multiple iGadgets between the both of us and Beta has her own apple ID. Because we only used one apple id  for so long, Beta has some games installed through Alpha's account and her own Beta account. Beta would now like to change the account the game PocketTimeSuck is associated with from Alpha's account to Beta's account without losing any of the progress made in this game which she has been playing for over a year.
    Is there any way of re-installing PocketTimeSuck onto Beta's device under Beta's apple ID and maintain the progress in the game she has made after installing it under Alpha's apple id? Alpha would like to start playing PocketTimeSuck but cannot install it under her own apple id because it comes with all of Beta's progress.
    (Also, if this is not the right forum, please let me know where I should post this question. Don't flame me, just tell me.)

    I'm getting confused by the Greek alphabet here so I will explain it this way and hope I understand what you are asking.
    Beta has been playing a game that she downloaded using Alpha's ID but now Beta would like to transfer the game and all of its progress to her own ID. That is not possible to do. The game was bought with Alpha's ID and is now associated with that ID and that progress is part of Alpha's backup.
    Alpha now wants to play the game under her own ID but the game is associated with her ID already. If she wanted to, she could just pick up where beta left off and leave Beta out in the cold. Somehow I don't think that is a good solution for either Alpha or Beta.
    Alpha should probably create a new Game Center account and start all over again with her own Game Center account. Beta will obviously have to do the same thing if she wants to play this game using her own Apple ID on her own iGadget.
    So if I do understand correctly, Alpha and Beta will both have to start over again. Howver, I could be confused because this is all "Greek to me".

    Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing.  Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade.  The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back.  When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again.  Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.

  • Window losing focus

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if it were at all possible for a JFrame or JWindow to listen for an event when the window is about to lose focus - ie it is losing focus (as opposed to lost focus).
    WindowEvent and the subsequent WindowFocusListener interface only caters for handling a window having already lost or gained focus, however I need to make things happen before the window actually loses its focus.
    Can anyone help?
    Regards,
    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,
    I don't know a possibility to get an event like you want to have - and I do think such an eevnt does not exist.
    But I do think you really wouldn't need such a possibility. Perhaps you can give a short explanation why you need this possibility. If the problem is to regain the focus there is a post from me a few minutes ago (I'm sorry about not knowing how to reference to other posts but I hope since years I will learn such things). If you have other problems please explain the problem - perhaps there is another way of solving it.
    HTH and greetings from
    Holger

  • JTable custom cell editor losing focus

    This is a followup to Re: Tutorial on AWT/Swing control flow wherein I ask for pointers to help me understand the source of focus-loss behaviour in my JTable's custom cell editor.
    I have done some more investigations and it turns out that the focus loss is a more general problem with custom cell editors which call other windows. Even the color-picker demo in the JTable tutorial at http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/examples/components/index.html#TableDialogEditDemo has this problem, IF you add a text field or two to the layout BEFORE the table. The only reason the table in the demo doesn't lose the focus when the color-picker comes out is because the table is the only thing in the window!
    Here is the demo code, augmented with two text fields, which are admittedly ugly here but which serve the desired purpose:

                public void run() {
                    createAndShowGUI();
    }When you come back from choosing a color, tf1 is given the focus, instead of the table. This is because bringing the color picker window to the front causes a focus lost event for the cell editor component; it's temporary, as it should be, so why on earth is the system losing track of who has focus in the window??
    I see the following in Window#getMostRecentFocusOwner():
      public Component getMostRecentFocusOwner()
        if (isFocused())
          return getFocusOwner();
        else
          Component mostRecent =
            KeyboardFocusManager.getMostRecentFocusOwner(this);
          if (mostRecent != null)
            return mostRecent;
          else
            return (isFocusableWindow())
                   ? getFocusTraversalPolicy().getInitialComponent(this)
                   : null;
      }My app has a custom focus traversal policy, so I'm able to see who is being called, and indeed, getInitialComponent() is being called. Clearly, the KeyboardFocusManager is actually losing track of the fact that the table was focussed at the point where control was transferred to the color picker! This strikes me as completely unreasonable, especially since, as noted, this is a temporary focus loss event, not a permanent one.
    I'd be grateful for any wisdom in solving this, since similar behaviour to this little demo -- without focus loss, naturally -- is an essential part of my application.

    Looks like it is because the 'restore-focus-to-previous-after-modal-dialog-close' is in a later event than when the control returns to the action performed (which I guess makes sense: it continues the action event handler and the focus events are handled later, but I needed two chained invoke laters so it might also be that the OS events comes later).
    The following works for me (in the actionPerformed edited):
               // create the dialog here so it is correctly parented
               // (otherwise sometimes OK button not correctly the default button)
               dialog = JColorChooser.createDialog(button, "Pick a Color", true,  //modal
                            colorChooser, this,  //OK button handler
                            null); //no CANCEL button handler
                    //The user has clicked the cell, so bring up the dialog.
                    button.setBackground(currentColor);
                    colorChooser.setColor(currentColor);
                    button.addFocusListener(new FocusListener() {
                        @Override
                        public void focusLost(FocusEvent e) {}
                        @Override
                        public void focusGained(FocusEvent e) {
                            // dialog closed and focus restored
                            button.removeFocusListener(this);
                            fireEditingStopped();
                    dialog.setVisible(true);but a simpler request might be better (althoug I still need an invoke later):
    // rest as before except the FocusListener
                    dialog.setVisible(true);
                    button.requestFocusInWindow();
                    EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                        public void run() {
                            fireEditingStopped();
                    });And a quick fix to the renderer so you can actualy see the focus on it:
                    if(hasFocus) {
                        Border border = DefaultLookup.getBorder(this, ui, "Table.focusCellHighlightBorder");
                        setBorder(BorderFactory.createCompoundBorder(
                                border, BorderFactory.createMatteBorder(1, 4, 1, 4,
                                        ((MatteBorder) getBorder()).getMatteColor())));
                    }

  • When you change iPHONE'S is it possible to keep all your games without losing your progress?

    I just upgraded to the iPhone 4S from the iPhone 3. I have several games that I want to keep my progress from but I can't figure out how to put them on my new phone without losing all that progress. Is there anyway to transfer these games and keep all my progress?

    The iPhone 3G does not support iCloud backup, but you can back up (or sync) all your data to a computer with iTunes. Once connected, you right click on your iPhone in the left column, select back up. This will copy all your data (incl. game progress) to your computer. Then when you are setting up your 4S, connect it to the same computer with the 3G's backup and instead of selecting "set up as a new iPhone," select restore from backup of the 3G.

  • Airport Losing Focus??

    I have a Mac set as an FTP server at a second location for backing up. My server at my first location will start backing up, completing some files. After a while, the network light on the modem at location 2 will stop blinking (indicating no traffic). The message from my backup software is "(FTP: server disconnected or timed out)". I can browse the web with no problems when this is happening. Is my Airport Extreme just losing focus?
    Also, pod casts will not down load to same FTP server. I'll get anywhere from 1/8 to 1/2 of a pod cast before the network traffic light stops blinking.
    Help! Boss is getting nervous. Thanks.

    Thanks JJMack.  I was hoping it wasn't the card I was using.  This is the first time I've used a geforce card on my work PC.  However it's not the first time I've used them with Adobe's apps.  For years my personal PCs had them and usually without issues like this.  We chose to attempt to use this new Geforce GTX980 card because of how much further advanced it is over midrange Quadro cards at the moment, and because of some of the other software I am using that is more viewport and video ram dependent.  Adobe applications are still my mainstay but we couldn't justify the purchase of older technology midrange K4000 cards that were supposedly newer than my older 4000.  As these still had older PCI connections than the HP workstations we built, among other tech such as cuda core amounts that are drastically behind the times.  Jumping up to 6000 level Quadro cards for up to date technology just isn't in the budget as the prices are astronomical. As with the Titan cards cards that are high priced and yet older tech.  So we made the decision to try the GTX card for a while.  Right now this sporadic window focus issue seems to be the only new issue I've run into so far.   I'm sure I will see more in the near future doing something if the card is the issue.  Maybe the new types of hardware being used such as the PCI express hard drive, or very recent photoshop updates can be blamed.  Just not figuring it out just yet.
    I was informed by an IT professional here that has application creation experience that this truly seemed like an application problem more than a graphic card problem.   But until someone can corroborate that thought I guess I'm going to keep blaming the newer GTX card or wait to see if an App update makes this go away quietly.  No one else has chimed in yet.  Thanks for the link.

  • Removing and restoring Focus to a JPanel

    Hi,
    I am working on a Tetris game in Java and I want to have a button that can pause the game and restore it. Everything works fine so far, I can get the blocks to stop and resume moving downward. However while the game is paused the player can still move the blocks left and right. I know this is happening because I called setFocusable(true) in my init() method of my JApplet and setFocusable(false) on the JButton, so the focus is always set to manipulate the blocks, but I am unsure how to get it to work so that calling a method will remove and restore Focus on the game.

    Add code to the ActionListener:
    If (notPaused)
       moveBlocks();

  • Game and Ball Hit problem

    Hello everyone, I am working on a game and was wondering if I could get some help. I have a ball that bounces around in a box, and place one small ball in the applet. I want to create an effect that when the ball that is moving comes into connect with the static ball, the moving ball bounces in the opposite direction. I used this:
    if(x_pos - 100 < 2 & y_pos - 100 < 2 || 100-x_pos < 2 && 100 - y_pos < 2)
    where x_pos and y_pos are for the moving ball, and 100 is the radius of the static ball. Should I use the Pythagoras theorem to do it?
    Thank You In Advance for any help.

    Use java.awt.Shape and its contains() method. It's a standard collision detection idiom.

  • Game Center "Games" and "Friends Tabs loads Forever

    Well i can enter Game Center but when i go to "Friends" tab or "Games" tab it just loads forever, if i try with challenges i see the "no challenge" legend some with the turns tab (no turns) since i dont own a turn game and have no challenge from other friends, but i cant see Friends and Games tab since they wont stop loading.
    a specific problem with it is that i tried to play Clash of Clans after having deleted it (but not from game center) and the game takes it as a new one as it says im not connected to Game Center.

    Well it didn't work, it still loads forever the "Games" and "Friends" tabs, but my brother came yesterday and try to help me, i tried logging out of game center but when i go to settings>game center and log out, when i go back to settings (top left button) then go back to Game Center it says im logged in (as if i had never logged out) so my brother tried to log on his Game Center account after i logged out but then just started to load forever his account and when i tried to open the game center program it would just white screen with the loading disk forever, after doing what you told me things went back as before (my account, i can open Game Center but Friends and Games tabs wont load and games will act as if i were not connected to Game Center).
    Thanks for everything tho guys i hope i can solve this issue its driving me mad!.

    There probably is, but it requires that you be able to use punctuation and write in sentences so that we can understand exactly what you want.
    You can block others from using your Apple ID by changing your password.  There is no way to erase what was already downloaded on to someone else's device, for obvious reasons,

  • Is there a way of remote accessing 'Games and More' on a mobile?

    I am new to the forum, please excuse me if I am in the wrong space!
    Is there a way of remotely accessing/executing Java applications that are residing in the 'Games and More.' folder on a mobile device?
    e.g. Java application is downloaded into 'Games and More' and there is a requirement to execute the program from an ODP (On-Device-Portal). The ODP is external to the 'Games and More' folder but within the same mobile device.
    Many thanks
    Ian

  • What is the difference between a VGA adapter and an AV adapter? Which would be better for my iPad 2 if I just wanted it for games and browsing the Internet?

    If I just wanted to play games and surf the web, would a VGA adapter or an AV adapter be better? For my iPad 2? I asked my family for a VGA adapter for Christmas and I'm not too sure if it's the one I want. Also, what is the difference?

    First of all, let's get something good to test.
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail35.swf
    In the file "/usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml", find the section for "application/vnd.adobe.flash.movie". Delete it all (from "mime-type" to "/mime-type") and replace it with this:

    And now Firefox will play local SWF files properly. I'm sure there's a better fix for this. Maybe someone smarter than me can find it.
