  • Skype: no system-tray icon with Arch (+ xfce)

    When I close Skype (the one and only skype window), skype is still running in the background. When I run Zenwalk with xfce, there is a skype icon as part of the taskbar, which indicates that skype is still running in the background. This icon does not pop up in Arch and xfce.
    Here in the forum rdoggsv gave a hint to run "killall skype". However I would prefer to have the system-tray icon (and the right-click to close skype). By the way: skype on debian has this icon as well (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=14874). How can I get this xfce notification icon in Arch, as long as Skype is running?

    Are you sure you have system tray enabled on your xfce panel?  I don't use xfce, but skype shows up correctly in the tray using trayer...  I also remember it working correctly with xfce panel tray in the past so unless the latest version of xfce is buggy it should work without problems.

  • How to minimize itunes to system tray

    In previous versions of iTunes, you were able to minimize itunes into the system tray rather than to the windows taskbar.  I have not been able to get this to happen again in the past couple of versions of iTunes.  Could you give me a breakdown on what or how to do it?  I am running windows 8.1.

    Do you mean the part of the taskbar immediately to the right of the Start button (with the little icons for programs)?
    If so:
    1. Right click on the taskbar. A menu will pop up. If there is a checkmark next to "Lock the Taskbar," then uncheck it (so it is unlocked, so you can make changes).
    2. Press (and hold) the Control key, while you click and drag the iTunes icon that is on your desktop to the taskbar.
    3. Re-lock your taskbar.

  • Minimize GW to system tray

    Hi everybody...
    I just want to know if it is possible to minimize the GW client to the system tray instead of having it open in the taskbar?
    Sorry if this is a repeated subject but i think not because i've searched before posting it...I have also looked in the GW options and i haven't found nothing!
    Hope you can help me, but if not, thanks anyway!

    The best method from what I can tell is to run Notify and have it in your tray. from there you can gain access to the client if needed. After you are done using the client, you can close it and Notify will remain in the tray monitoring your email.
    That is how I have my system setup and so far it seems to work pretty well.
    hope that helps.

    no it isn't. sually people simply leave Notify in the tray and right
    click on that.
    The system tray isn't really where running apps are supposed to go. True
    I know of apps that violate this, but the tray is normally for
    notification/status stuff only.

  • Minimize DM6 to system tray

    Earlier versions of the desktop manager allowed you to minimize it to the system tray, but I don't see this setting in DM6.  Does anyone know how to do this?

    I found a way to Minimize BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6 to the Windows System Tray.
    I purchased a new BlackBerry Torch 9800 and a new feature appeard on the Desktop Manager called "Wi-Fi Music Sync".  Wi-Fi Music Sync will allow you to sync music between your BlackBerry and Desktop computer via a wireless network.
    Activating the Wi-Fi Music Sync will allow you to minimize BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6 to the Windows System Tray.
    I realize that this is not a solution for all but it appears that BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6 was designed to work with the new features of OS 6.
    Just wanted to let you all know that it is possible to minimize BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6 to the Windows System Tray.

  • Minimize licq to system tray

    i know for shure that you can minimze licq to the system tray without having a taskbarentry - but i can't figure out how !?!

    licq compiled without --with-kde
    But it can be minimized, though.
    I don't know exact english option names, but try
    Licq -> settings -> (in bottom right corner) icons -> set first check (use icons) and last radio (small icons) buttons
    Also, you can download PKGBUILD for "licq-be" package or try this PKGBUILD:
    ########################3
    pkgname=licq-kde-gui
    pkgver=1.3.4
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="KDE user interface plugin for Licq"
    arch=(i686)
    url="http://www.licq.org"
    depends=('licq')
    source=(http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/licq/licq-$pkgver.tar.bz2)
    md5sums=('3bab0c9d1977f9b14421d36110e17e0c')
    build() {
      cd $startdir/src/licq-$pkgver
      # KDE-gui is a variant of Qt-gui
      cd plugins/qt-gui
      ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-kde
      make || return 1
      cd po
      lrelease *.ts || return 1
      cd -
      make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
      find $startdir/pkg -name "*.la" -exec rm -f {} ;
      rm -rf $startdir/pkg/usr/share
    then do "makepkg" and install package
    then exit from licq and edit ~/.licq/licq.conf - replace "qt-gui" on "kde-gui" (you cannot just change it from licq gui because you need to unload this gui first)

  • Adobe Reader minimizes to system tray when printing as an attachment in Outlook

    I have a user that is running Adobe Reader v10.1.2, and MS Outlook v12.0.6668.5000 (2007).  Every time that she opens a PDF attachment in email and prints it, it minimizes to the system tray.  if she saves it to the desktop and prints, it doesn't minimize.
    I have deleted everything in her OLK folders, tried printing while in Cached Exchange Mode, and with it turned off.  the problem persists.
    Please advise.  Thanks.

    Thank you for replying.
    What is happening is the user receives a PDF attachment in an Outlook email.  She opens the PDF to view (default program for opening PDFs on her computer is Adobe Reader), then clicks the print button in Adobe.  The document prints, but it immediately minimizes to her taskbar and remains minimized unless she clicks on the icon to maximize it again.  if the same PDF is saved to her desktop, opened, and printed, it does not minimize.  We can create this issue at any time on her machine.
    I have focused on Outlook since it appears to only happen from this program.  i have deleted temporary files from her OLK folders, tested with Cached Exchange Mode turned off, and ran MS Office Diagnostics (no errors).  I am uncertain where to troubleshoot next, short of deleting her profile on the computer and letting it rebuild.

  • Skype freezes when I open it up from system tray a...

    Whenever I try to open skype from system tray and when I start a chat with someone, Skype freezes and I have to wait for like 20-30 seconds before I am able to chat. I have a freshly installed windows 7 x64 and the newest skype version.

    Same story for me! Ususally the other party can hear and see me before my end starts working. Except sometimes takes minutes for Skype to stabilize before I can use it.  Then it seems to work. Using Win 7 and Skype 7.1.0.105. The problem has existed since installing 7.1. Makes using Skype a real pain!
    Internet Explorer is resident on computer, but I use Foxfire for browsing.

  • Itunes disappears when minimized to system tray

    i have itunes set to minimize to the system tray, but when i do, it doesn't go to the tray, it just disappears
    my music is still playing but itunes just isn't there
    if i open task manager, it isn't in the applications tab, but it is in the processes tab as itunes.exe
    the only way to bring it back is to click "new task" in task manager and type itunes.exe, but i don't want to do this everytime i want to change songs or something
    anybody experienced similar?

    Yes. In itunes, edit/preferences/advanced. Check the boxes "show itunes in system tray" and "minimize itunes window to system tray".
    Then, drag the itunes shortcut to the startup folder in the start menu. Right click the new shortcut in the startup folder and select properties, then the shortcut tab. In the "run" drop list select "minimized". Itunes will open when your computer starts and minimize to the system tray.

  • Minimizing Appliaction to system tray

    I want to enable my application GUI to minimize to a system tray icon on windows, just like MSN messenger and many other applications do, so that task bar space is saved, and the user can maximize the application back to normal just by double clicking the icon. Please let me know how can i do this. i.e what API to use. I would appreciate if u please refer a link for further information.

    I agree 100% with you that people should search before posting, and further that those people who do post before searching generally don't deserve help. My point is that when you post "search the forum" instead of just ignoring them, you don't help the cause - and you cause an additional problem of cluttering up the responses for those who do search first. If you must post "search the forum", think kindly of the many, many other people who found your posting by doing just that, searching the forum - and give them an answer, or a link to one. Keep in mind that your posting will be seen by the original people in this thread and readers perhaps 100 times - but is likely to come up in search results over the next few years many, many more times. Which means your typical reader (myself included) did search the forum...
    What if you come up with 20 posts asking the same question, with no response? That argument is setting up a straw man - I doubt very, very much that you'll see a real question posted 20 seperate times without some real response to it. I know all of the questions I've posted have been answered quickly and intelligently - the questions most likely to be ignored are those where the answer is either obvious, or easily found, or blatant attempts to get someone to do their homework...

  • Minimizing to system tray.

    How do I make my program to minimize to the system tray?

    So just strip out the popup menu code from the code snippets given in the article.
    The mouse listener code is already there... it's fairly straightforward and no one here will spoon feed you code

  • Auto starting iTunes - minimized to system tray.

    Is there a way to have iTunes startup in the system tray? I have a business process using Video iPods where my clients have asked about this capability. There are a number of 'internal' podcasts that our sales force subscribes to and having iTunes start in the system tray allows this process to work background rather than 'in your face'.
    <I've tried putting it in the startup group minimized, but it has no effect>.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Minimize Desktop software to System Tray, not to Taskbar?

    I'm not usually a technical dunce... but I can't find the option switch for this seemingly obvious request.
    I want to have Desktop software (6.0.0) running whenever I have my computer active; but I don't want to have it take up space on my taskbar (Windows Vista Home Premium).  I'd like it instead to minimize to an icon in the System Tray.  But I can't figure out how to make that happen.
    When I minimize the software, it continues to appear as a button on the taskbar.
    If I click the Close button (red X) as some programs use, the software closes completely.
    What obvious place am I missing to be able to make this happen?
    Thanks for your help.
    Barbara

    Thanks, Parlabane.  I'm disappointed to know that the feature isn't there; but I guess it's some comfort to know that I'm not quite as much of a dunce as I feared I was.
    Will hope for a development team that catches this BGO (Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious) from their users.

  • How to minimize program's window to system tray [near the clock on windows]

    ???

    If you really mean the system tray (near the clock in Windows as you say), that's not an area to which windows are ever minimized as far as I know. It's an area with launcher/status icons.
    Since you talked about minimizing a program window, I assume you meant to say the TaskBar (at the bottom middle of the Windows screen, between the Start Menu and QuickLaunch buttons on the left and the system tray on the right).
    setState(Frame.ICONIFIED) will minimize (=iconify) any Frame (or subclass) into an icon in the TaskBar at the bottom of the screen. And setState(Frame.NORMAL) will bring it back. It's right there in the API; see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/api/java/awt/Frame.html#setState(int)
