Minimize upgrade time

Dear all,
One of my client has a database around 6TB, and they are planning to upgrade the database version from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.2 . OS is Solaris 10. How do I minimize the downtime of the database upgrade ? . In this scenario, how to proceed with huge database and scenarios like banking, telco where they can't afford for such a huge downtime ?
Please guide
Kai

  • Firmware upgrade times out (BEFW11S4 v4)

Hi, my firmware upgrade times out everytime and i've read that the only way to get past this is by flash-upgrading the router through this web address ftp.linksys.com/pub/network but the link doesn't work for me and says '550 failed to change directory'. Is there another link i can try or another solution?
    Previous thread: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=122275

    Download Firmware 314 KB...
    Download TFTP Utility...
After downloading the Firmware rename the file(like - befw11s4)...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Double click the TFTP.exe file and click run.
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • ISE 1.2 upgrade time

If someone has done a 1.2 upgrade, can you let me know about how long it took?
    Thanks!

    Upgrade Time Estimation
The following table provides an estimate of the amount of time it might take to upgrade to Release 1.2. Actual time taken for upgrade varies depending on a number of factors. Your production network continues to function without any downtime during the upgrade process. The data presented here is from a deployment with 44 Cisco ISE nodes (2 Administration nodes, 2 Monitoring nodes, and 40 Policy Service nodes). This deployment comprises 100,000 endpoints; 12,500 users; 25,000 guest users; 100 user groups (with 5 attributes per user). The Profiling service was enabled and the following probes were turned on: DHCP, HTTP, RADIUS, Network Scan (NMAP), DNS, SNMPQUERY.

  • What can be done to minimize redeploy times during incremental development?

If you are in the incremental development phase of the project, you can try and deploy to the Domain Administration Server (DAS), which is denoted by the standalone instance named "server". The DAS is a fully functional J2EE instance and is used as the default target when a target isn't specified during deployment.
The 8.1 SE/EE version of the SJSAppServer is packaged as an Enterprise quality product. By default the communication to & between the appserver components utilize Transport Layer Security (TLS). If a developer deploys a large Enterprise Archive (EAR) to an appserver instance other than the DAS, the instance's repository needs to be updated and reconciled. This process is referred to as Synchronization in the appserver's documentation, more information is located at http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0215/nodeagent.html#wp1021415. To minimize the time needed to synchronize the instance, the application can be deployed to the DAS for intense interactive development. Once interactive development tapers off, the application's targets can be altered to point to the remote instance(s) for integrated testing.
To get the fastest possible developer experience, you should use NetBeans (4.1 or later) to deploy to the DAS. Netbeans has implemented numerous optimizations that significantly shorten application deployment times. You can get your free copy of NetBeans at http://www.netbeans.org.

Netbeans deploying to the DAS is the method I use and it speeds up cyclical development immensely. Netbeans also facilitates most of the admin functions that are available through the admin gui, including viewing the logs as part of the Netbeans environment.
I develop numerous applications and Proof of Concepts and Netbeans in definitely the way to go.

  • Finally Upgrade Time- Help Me Decide..

    Hi Everyone..
I have been waiting patiently for my Upgrade Notice.  Yeah, finally time.  I currently have a LG env3. This will be my first droid phone, so wanting some feedback on which one to chose...  just some background I have a Galaxy Tab..
Sales Reps are pushing the 4G, Thunderbolt and Droid Charge, honestly, my town probably won't even get this ability until later this year and 3G is fine with me... I don't need to have access to the internet during the day, since I am at work  for 8 hours and cellphones must be turned off.
I see that there are many to chose, Costco is having a special on Fascinate right now, bundle package with desk dock, car dock and battery charger..  It looks alot like HTC Incredible...  but I can't find any smoking deals on that right now.
What other phones are comparable or should I consider ?  I don't know much about Motorolas...
I see battery life has been an issue for some phones, has that been resolved?  That will matter to me, as I want a phone there and ready when I need it.
For a first time droid user, savvy enough but still can learn new tricks, which one would you recommend... You have, you know the pros and cons... guide me in my decision...

    Yay, upgrade time!
mdram4x4 is right ... trying them out in a store will help you decide. I went into a Verizon store last week to look at the iPhone, and ended up narrowing it down to the Thunderbolt and the Incredible 2. Ha ha.
I chose the Inc 2 because my area won't have LTE for a while, I wanted global capabilities and the 4-inch screen is large enough for me. I'm very happy with my decision. The battery life is really good and it's plenty fast on 3G.
Good luck deciding. Come back and let us know what you got.

  • Minimize upgrade downtime in HA environment

    Hi upgrade gurus,
I have 3 instances (1 CI , let say  PR1_00, 2 DI, let say PR1_01 and PR1_02, DB on seperate box, let say PR1_DB). HA setting is used for both PR1_00 and PR1_DB. (Microsoft Cluster). some are running on top of
Now I need to patch my system from SPS14 to SPS19.
To minimize the downtime, I would like to first apply that patch on the SLAVE of my CI.
1.During the patch I expect the DB is synchronized from my PR1_00_PRIMARY to PR1_00_SLAVE is on going but not vice versus, while I am applying the patch on PR1_00_SLAVE. This will not cause any stopage of my business.
2.After the patch on PR1_00_SLAVE is completed. I switch the PR1_00_SLAVE from passive mode to active mode. I will apply patch on PR1_00_PRIMARY during this time. I expect same synch. is applied as step 1.
    3. restart the DIs respectively.
Is this feasible ? will step 1 and step 2 work ?
    Kindly comments.
    thanks & Best Regards,
    Aaron

    Hi Aaron,
Let me phrase what i understand from you is you have CI and DB on HA environment. And CI and DB are mirrored. So you want to patch slave first so that master will be available to users. Then once slave patching is completed you will make slave as master and then do patching of earlier master.
But i don't think that this a good approach. As what about the difference in data because when master is in production mode there will be change in data as users will use that..And when you will use slave as master after upgrade then there will also be change in data...
How will you synchronize both ?
    Thanks
    Sunny

  • After lion upgrade time capsule no longer backs up

Time capsule no longer will back up after lion upgrade is anyone else having this problem?

The Time Machine application is part of the Lion operating system, so you will likely get a faster and more informed response if you post in the Lion support area for Time Machine. There are a number of posts there with issues similar to yours.
    Mac OS X v10.7 Lion
Click on the Refine This List button under the Lion and then click on Time Machine to get to the support area.

  • Oracle DataBase Upgradation Time

    Hello Experts,
    Database size is 97GB,
I want to Upgrade database from 10.2.0.1.0 To 10.2.0.2.0.
How much time it will take for Upgradation process ??.
    Thanks,
    Rahul S.S.

Why not upgrade to 10.2.0.5 instead .... ???
No we cant do that its not a suported version from SAP.
Only option you have is 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.4 or else is 11.2.0
Also as mentioned in above thread 10.2.0.1 was never supported, may be you want to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 which may be a job of hours , but always depends upon your skills as well.

  • Nexus N7K Sup 1 replacement to SUP2E rollback plan and EPLD upgrad time.

    Dear Expert,
My customer has N7K SUP1 with HA as below and I need to replace 2  with SUP2E 6.1.2 from SUP1(6.1.1).
As per Cisco document, it is required EPLD upgrade from SUP1 to SUP2E with Fabric-2 module, but there is no guide time for EPLD.
    Mod  Ports  Module-Type                         Model              Status
    1    0      Supervisor module-1X                N7K-SUP1           active *
    2    0      Supervisor module-1X                N7K-SUP1           ha-standby
3    48     1000 Mbps Optical Ethernet XL Modul N7K-M148GS-11L     ok
    4    48     1/10 Gbps Ethernet Module           N7K-F248XP-25      ok
    5    24     10 Gbps Ethernet Module             N7K-M224XP-23L     ok
    Mod  Sw              Hw
    1    6.1(1)          3.0
    2    6.1(1)          3.0
    3    6.1(1)          1.3
    4    6.1(1)          1.0
    5    6.1(1)          2.0
    1. Can I have no downtime to do this activity ?
As per Cisco HW installation guide, It seems I should replace 2 SUP at same time, but if I can replace separately, please let me know.
    2. How many minute is required for upgrade EPLD with above HW inventory ?
    I assummed this time about 1hr ~ 90 min(max), is it correct ?
    3. If this upgrade is failed, then I need to rollback from SUP2E(S2-6.1.2) to original SUP1(S1-6.1.1).
Is below step is correct for rollback ?
    - Turn off the power to the switch
    - For each Supervisor 2E module installed in the switch, remove the module and replace it with a Supervisor 1 module.
    - Power on and verify all module is fine, sh version to check to rollback to S1-6.1.1.
    - Run ‘install all epld bootflash:n7000-s1-epld.6.1.1a.img parallel’ after rebooting with original SUP1.
    - Verify configuration and status
    4. when I downgrade to n7000-s1-epld-6.1.1a, only linecard will be downgrade > or All SUP and FAN or Power module EPLD also downgrade ?
If so, how many minute will re required with previous HW inventory ?
    I assummed this time about 40 ~ 60 min(max), is it correct ?
    5. From S1-6.1.1a to S2-6.1.2a upgrade, will N2K FEX Software be upgrade as well ?
I  need to update this downtime by tomorrow morning, so I seek your advice  urgently.
Please share your experinece with me, thanks in advance.
    Jason.

    Hey Jason,
    Regarding your queries:-
    1. Can I have no downtime to do this activity ? As per Cisco HW installation guide, It seems I should replace 2 SUP at same time, but if I can replace separately, please let me know. - Replacing supervisors will have downtime as you need to move hardware physically in and out of chassis.
    2. How many minute is required for upgrade EPLD with above HW inventory ? I assummed this time about 1hr ~ 90 min(max), is it correct ? - Once the supervisor is upgraded, you may upgrade all the modules parallely so considering the boot time of all these modules you are in safe limit.
    3. If this upgrade is failed, then I need to rollback from SUP2E(S2-6.1.2) to original SUP1(S1-6.1.1). Is below step is correct for rollback ? - Indeed its correct.
    4. when I downgrade to n7000-s1-epld-6.1.1a, only linecard will be downgrade > or All SUP and FAN or Power module EPLD also downgrade ? If so, how many minute will re required with previous HW inventory ? I assummed this time about 40 ~ 60 min(max), is it correct ? - Check this:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/epld/epld_rn_6-1.html#wp93995. Also everything will b downgraded so again calculate the booting time + downgrade, i think with this inventory 60 minutes is managable.
    5. From S1-6.1.1a to S2-6.1.2a upgrade, will N2K FEX Software be upgrade as well ? - Yes, it will be upgraded.
I also suggest the following links for smooth upgrade:

  • Since upgrade, Time Machine starts and stalls.  Waited 24 hours. Formatted disk-no change.

Since upgrade to Mavericks on Mini, Time Machine starts and stalls.  Says "292 Mb of 147.68 Gb", wheel spins. Waited 24 hours, no change. Formatted disk-no change.  Tried every solution found in threads; no fix.  Doing manual backups. Help!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message that corresponds to an abnormal backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showning, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Upgradation time and pain points

    Hi Friends,
Currently SAP 4.7 is implemented in a company
*1. My requirement is-- Reporting Requirements - data unable to be stored in PS*--> Add additional data (free text commentary) to the existing project details in PS and then view this inside the existing reporting in BW
2.Copying Projects - Constraint Dates and status not copied-->u2022 Copying Projects o We currently struggle copying projects, as whilst the framework of a particular project may remain, the actual project progress/constraints are removed (ie it does not recognise if tasks have been completed or remain pending, nor does it recognise constraints that may have been given to selected key milestones).
o These dates then have to be added back manually by the Project Manager.
o Does an alternate version of SAP give the ability to copy projects both with/without actual progression data?
    3.Scenario Review - Project Versions & Simulations-->u2022 Scenario Review
o Our current version of SAP does not appear to allow us flexibility in view multiple-scenarios of risk in a project without overwriting the original or exporting dates into Excel for onward viewing and not saving the example.  Is there a way of saving u2018optionsu2019, to enable the risk to be reviewed and agreed, and then the relevant version made u2018liveu2019?
    4. Off line working-->u2022 On Line
o Currently, all updates to SAP projects need to be made on the live systemu2026off-line working is not possible.  Does an alternate version of SAP enable projects to be taken off line, amended, and then uploaded back onto the server?
    5.Associated Documents-->u2022 Associated Documents
o Are there options for uploading related documents into SAP that relate to individual projects (ie briefs, business cases)?
I have mentioned my scenarios above , now I would like to know that whether it is possible to achieve this thru configuration in same SAP 4.7 system or it is required to upgrade in ECC 5.0 or 6.0 and if yes then how can I achieve this in
a)If I am going to interact the client then what shoule i ask regarding the above 5 points.
    a) SAP 4.7/5.0/6.0 systems and
b)how much time (in man hours/ OR consultant/hours ) is required to do this.
    Any pointers.
    Regards
    Ashu

Regarding Point 3 - You can create multiple simulations of a project, make changes to the simulations and then transfer back the desired simulation to the operative project. Use transaction CJV4 to transfer operative to simulation and vice versa. You can edit simulations in Project Builder or CJV2.
    4. Off line working is still not possible in PS. But you can transfer the data to MS Project. Make changes in MS Project and transfer it back. Refer to help documentation on OpenPS
    5. You can attach documents to WBS elements or activities. This requires corresponding settings in DMS. Or you can use PS Texts.

  • Macbook Pro heating up after Lion upgrade (time machine)

    Hello,
After the upgrade from OS X Snow Leopard to OS X Lion I noticed my mid 2009 macbook pro 13" started heating up quickly. After some time trying to figure out what could be the cause I found TIME MACHINE to be the point. The automatic backups takes much longer than on SL, sometimes never finishes. Then I have had to turn time machine off. But this isn't the way I want to go on my Mac.
Any suggestion about this? My backup device is an USB HDD connected to an Airport Extreme.

Removing all old Snow Leopard backups and starting new backups from the scratch (with Lion) seemed to fix the problem.

  • 8i to 10g upgrade time

    Hi All,
I will be using DBUA tool to upgrade from my database from 8.1.7 to 10g. Typically, how much time does it take to upgrade one database.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    bhasi

    Hi Xaheer and others,
sorry to correct you but it depends NOT on the size of the database. It won't matter if your database is 2Gb or 2Tb of size. We don't touch the data during an upgrade (we had to do this only once when "migratiing" from Oracle7 to Oracle8).
    It depends mainly on:
    1) The number of objects requireing change - and therefore on the number of installed components
    2) The number of invalid objects needing recompilation (see (1) ...)
    3) Valid and non-stale data dictionary statistics!!! Create them right before the upgrade
    4) If you have a very (!!!) high number of synonyms when upgrading to 10g/11g from 8i/9i
    5) At a very low rate (if you increase compatible) of the number of data files and the size of the redologs
And unfortunately there's no way of predicting the time it'll take - if you have just an Oracle Server and a JServer installed, then it should complete on a fairly new system in about 30-45 minutes for 9i to 10g. But this is just an estimate.
For an upgrade to 10.2 you'll have to be at least on 8.1.7.4 patch set - please make sure you'll apply the latest patch set 10.2.0.4 BEFORE you upgrade.
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • G3 to G4 upgrade time - Suggestions??

I couldn't find a "General" Powerbook kind of discussion area so excuse my placement if it's in the wrong area.
The time is coming soon when I'll have to upgrade to something more recent into the G4 line of PowerBooks from my Pismo. Currently I praise the Pismo for it's simplicity of repair and upgrading accesibility. The overall dependability of it simply astonishes me also. Thanks to the OSX system running so efficiently on it of course.
This is what I'm looking to discover in the G4 family but I know very little of the various models' reputations. Mainly I'm interested in finding out which one of the PowerBook G4 models was the most end-user accessible for getting at all of the hardware components, as well as the least troublesome (I heard something about bad hinges on some and Airport antenna reception problems on others).
Screen size isn't a consideration at this point but I would want something at least 1Ghz CPU. Expandability would be nice if possible. I know the Pismo was phenominal that way.
If anyone has any opinions on this I would greatly appreciate hearing about them.
    Thanks in advance.

From a hardware accessiblity standpoint, besides memory, nothing is easily accessible. Take a look at any of the guides on http://www.ifixit.com or installation video's on http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm .
If I were looking for a used or reconditioned Powerbook, I would avoid the last Powerbooks in 15" and 17" that have hi-rez screens and double layer DVD drives. They've had screen issues - you can scan the discussions. The 12" Powerbooks weren't upgraded with those features, so if you want the smaller screen size, any model is fine. The 15" and 17" Powerbooks I'd recommend are the 1.67Ghz models made between January 31, 2005 and October 19, 2005, which is just prior to the hi-rez/dual layer Powerbooks mentioned above.
If you buy used, you should probably run the Apple hardware test on the machine, or TechTool Deluxe/Pro, to make sure the hardware is OK. Also check the number of cycles on the battery. Apple says a properly maintained battery should hold 80% of it's charge after 300 cycles.
