Minimized Windows keep popping up when returning to application

When returning to an application with minimized windows, the last window used always pops up automatically. Usually, when I minimize a window it's because I went to leave it there for much later reference. Is there a setting that will keep minimized windows MINIMIZED until I click on them...?

Hello jaystar:
To my knowledge no - the behavior you describe is part of the design of OS X (and, I think, what most of us wish to happen).

  • Finder window keeps popping out when booting up the computer

Lately I've noticed whenever I shut down the computer with the "Reopen windows when logging back in" uncheck, this Finder window will pop out the next time I startup the computer. Still new to Apple and am not sure any settings that I may have set before this.
I just want a clear desktop when I boot up the computer and not greeted by this system Finder window.

Finder does not obey the rules of the 'Reopen windows' dialogue box. It will reopen any Finder window that was not closed when you shutdown. This was also true in Snow Leopard and isn't part of the 'Resume' feature itself.
The only way to not see that window when you restart is to close it before you shutdown!

  • Preferance pane window keeps popping open when entering search or data into any fields. I'm also using 1Password and it happens when trying to enter a password

I'm running on Mac OS X 10.7.4, Firefox 14.0.1. This issue didn't exist until this most recent Firefox update. Basically, a preference pane opens every time data is being entered into a field. It doesn't seem to be the same preference pane that you see when you open the preferences through the normal Firefox access ie. Firefox > Preferences. All of the choices listed in this particular preference pane are specific to Firefox though. I have a screen capture that I could include if wanted. When using 1Password the pane appears, when entering a search in the search bar near the address bar the pane pops up, when entering data into any field as I am now filling in this detail report the pane also pops up. It's quite annoying. Any advice? I'm going to systematically attempt to quit any add-ons and see if that makes a difference. I ave already tried doing a reinstall to no avail.

I think a screen shot would be helpful. There is a box below the compose area of a reply to upload files.

  • Wifi notification keeps popping up when returning from sleep

Whenever my mac mini (2012) or MBP (2007) returns from sleep I get popups of restoring wfif access. Sometimes these keep returning every minute or so, with 5 notifcations at the same time.
Does someone else experience this as well? And what is the remedy.
I do not want to restart every time I wake m macs from sleep. BTW, this was never an issue before an update on 10.7 (previous instance of 10.7) was fine. Also, do not want to migrate to 10.8 yet. as my MBP cannot.
    Current OS X: 10.7.5
    Cheers!

Ok, I just tried that. I deleted com.apple.KeyboardViewerServer.plist. I then started my screensaver. When I came back in...the Keyboard Viewer was back and there was a new plist file that was created...so, something else must be controlling it.

  • The 'drag to application' window keeps popping up when I open up Firefox on my Macbook

I just purchased a Macbook and downloaded Firefox a few days ago. At first it showed a Firefox application window for me to drag into the App folder. After doing that everytime I log onto my computer and open Firefox browser, the ' Drag Firefox Application' still pops up. It gets annoying at times how am I able to stop this?
    Thanks

I discovered that Flash gets disabled after making this about:config change. Firefox claims that Flash is "out of date" when the latest version is installed. So if you use Flash, this tweak won't work.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

What version of iPhoto do you have (9.0 is the original version from a couple of years ago - you should be way past that - at least 9.1 - probably 9.2 - maybe 9.3)

  • Another window keeps popping, how to get rid of that

another window keeps popping in spontaneously. Have i got a virus/malware.
    Mac cleaner keeps popping in.
    How do I avoid that?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for a file with a name of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. It could be "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," "trusteddownloads," or pretty much anything else.
There may also be a file named
               com.something.helper.plist
    in the same folder.
Leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is exactly the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified these three files, back up all data, then drag the three files you found to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
(where something is the same word as before), drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually another folder, though it has a different icon. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Can anyone please tell me why the "Do you want to restart your computer now" window keeps popping up every two minutes? Please help! Its driving me nuts?

    Hi all.
I need some help. I have recently installed a new Hard Drive in my Macbook and have re-installed Snow Leopard. Since doing so there have been a few things that haven't been quite the same.
    1) Certain buttons decided they didnt want to work anymore. These being the Space Bar, the Tab key, all four arrow keys, Caps lock, Volume up, Eject, and a few others.
After putting up with this for a couple of weeks and looking at numerous forums, they all of a sudden came back to life (Hence why I'm actually able to type this message) THEN, they packed up again. Then started again, then packed again, and so on. They seem to have a mind of their own.
Please... does anyone know whats going on? Is it a hardware prob? Is it something to do with the way Ive installed the Hard Drive? Have I forgotten to do something?
    2) Ever since my buttons initially came back to life, the "Do you want to restart you computer?" window keeps popping up every couple of minutes.
It's the window that says "Restart, Sleep, Cancel, Shut Down"
It's driving me insane and I can't help but think that the two probs are related.
If anyone out there has any ideas at all, they would be most welcome.
    Many thanks in advance
    MadDogSnaps

Have you tried reinstalling the original drive? Same symptoms with it?
