  • App windows disappear when new app opened

    I don't use spaces. I am on a mac.
This seems to be something that only happens in 10.6
I'm working in (for example) Mail.
I need to check on something in (for example) a Word file.
    I open Word.
    Mail disappears.
    It hasn't quit, BUT
I have to go to the dock and click on Mail to get the window to reopen.
This happens all day long with almost every app. It's annoying. How can I KEEP all windows open?

But I'm NOT hitting the option key. Apparently this is a default setting for snow leopard. Is there a way to defeat it?

I cannot open a new window for FireFox.

The Downloads Window cannot be accessed either.
This is very annoying. Is this a bug? Or is there a fix.

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL..

Using firefox 14.0.1. Loading a link using right-click and "Open Link In New Window", results in new window opening but address bar does not show URL. However, if I right click on a link and select "Open Link In New Tab", the Tab shows URL in address bar. So it's working when it's a New Tab but not a New Window.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Error Console pop-up when new window loads

Every window that loads (new window, private window, pop-up, etc) causes an Error Console to load.
Is there some plugin I can tweak or disable, or a browser configuration I can remove or change so this Error Console does not present?
    thanks.

You can check the settings in the Web Developer extension.

  • IN Windows 8 Desktop Mode, Firefox continually puts a background window over a new window when a new window is opened.

I am running Firefox in Windows 8 in Desktop mode. If I have a window open, and then open a new window, the previously opened window will open in front of the window just opened. If there is more than one window open when opening a new window, it is usually the most recently used window that opens in front of the new window, but not always. There can sometimes be a delay as well - I can begin to type in the new window, and the previously opened window will open again. I have tried various Option settings, but nothing seems to prevent this behavior. Occasionally, when I have several windows open at once, two or more windows may open on top of the freshly opened window.

'''Try the Firefox Safe Mode''' to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.''
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode"''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

  • Tabs opening as new windows even when I click open in a new tab

All of a sudden links that normally opened as new tabs are now opening as new windows. Even when I specifically say open as a new tab it still opens as a new window. I have checked the settings in the tab option so it should be opening them as new tabs. it is highly frustrating!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Some webpages resize the window but when the window opens in a new tab, the entire firefox browser is resized. How do I stop this from happening?

This usually happens when the window is resized in order to fit the smaller content/intention for a webpage.
I would like Firefox to ignore the window resizing (down sizing) commands when opening a window in a new tab and just display the window in full size.

Go into ''Tools > Options > Content'' and next to where it says ''Enable JavaScript'', click ''Advanced...''' and then untick ''Move or resize existing windows''.
This is the only way to do it. I believe there is a bug filed to prevent all sites (by default) from resizing the window if there are more tabs open, but I don't think it has been fixed.

  • Stop sounds when new window opens

Is there a way to get Flash to stop when a user changes focus
from the page where the flash is located?
I have a flash audio player on each page that a person can
switch on and off while they are on the page but if they click a
link that opens a new window from that location the audio from the
flash can still be heard because the page with the flash is still
up but running in the background. Closing the page in this case is
not an option. What I want to do is just make flash stop playing
when a new window is opened.
    Can this be done?

    Hi
You can use the stopAllsounds() function. Check Flash Help
    for more details.
    Hope it helps.

  • Error when new window opens

I have the community projects portlet on the community home page, and when a user clicks on one of the projects, the project opens, but the base window turns into "Page not found". When I do the same thing as admin, it does not do this. Any ideas? Thanks.

    F.,
We have been seeing some strange issues with new windows, sessions, etc. with IE8 over the last few weeks (particularly).  Do not have any definitive answers yet but may have something to do with the IE security fixes that came out recently.  If you (or your users -- not sure what role you have) have the ability to log a service request I would suggest doing so to allow us to better troubleshoot and track these issues.
I will come back and update this thread when we have something more definitive.  Right now we are trying to catalog the various behaviors we are seeing and determine what might be going on.
    Best regards,

  • Every link opens a new window even when this should open a new tab

Lately, whenever I click on a link a new window opens (11 happenings of firefox just to get to this page). In options I have selected open new tab instead of new window. Deselecting or reselecting does not change this. Restarting firefox did not help either. Also for some reason if I click the dot button on the keyboard, I get the greater than sign.

This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • New Window from "FILE- NEW-WINDOW" duplicates all the currently open tabs in the new window. I want new window with just the "Home" tab please?

    Running Firefox 3.6.13 on 64Bit Win7.
I like to group tabs on a topic in a window, and when the tabs get to be too many, or a new topic, I do FILE->NEW-WINDOW and expect a new window with just one default (Home) tab. Instead I get a new window with ALL the tabs of the first window.
I have checked all the Options I could find. Nothing helped. I CAN make a new Window with just one tab if I right-click a link and say "Open in NEW Window".

A new window should only open with the home page(s).<br />
If you see differently then you need to check your extensions.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Dragging an existing tab to the desktop (or below tab bar) does not open that URL in a new window, only a new window with an empty tab. FF4 RC2 (did it with RC1 as well).

When I drag an existing open tab from the FF4 tab bar onto my desktop, a new window opens as expected but the tab within that window does not load the URL of the tab dragged from the previous window. The tab menu item "Move to New Window" does the same thing as well.
I have disabled Tab Mix Plus add-on but it has made no difference. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?

I use Tab Mix Plus and do not have that problem.
    <br/>
You may need to try Firefox Safe Mode to see if an add-on is causing the problem; see: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode
*<u>In Firefox 4, to enter Safe Mode, hold the Shift key while clicking on the Firefox 4 desktop icon.</u>
*Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes '''<u>before</u>''' starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    * If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling '''<u>one at a time</u>''' until the problem reappears. '''<u>You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change</u>''' via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • FF4 wont move a tab to a new window. The new window opens fine but the existing tab stays on the current window. What's wrong?

I just upgraded to firefox 4. I'm using session manager extension.
I have multiple tabs open in my firefox window and I want to move some tabs to a new window. I followed the support guide which tells how to do this, however, when I drag the tab off the current window, the new window gets opened as it should, but the tab I was trying to move stays in the current window and does not get moved to the new one. Any ideas what the problem is?
    Thanks
    Mick

  • Firefox Refreshes the Window whenever a New Window is Opened or Closed

When I have one window running, and I open a new window of firefox or close another window, it refreshes the other window that is running.
It's really frustrating because if I am playing a video or game in one window, and go to open or close another window to browse, it refreshes the page and restarts the video or whatever I'm running.
It's only been doing this the last couple of days, it never did it before, so I don't know what changed.
Anyone know what I can change so that the other windows just stay as they are?

Jeeze, know one knows how to fix this? :(
