Minimizing a window

Hi!
Are there any other options to making a window "go away" aside from having whoosh off to the dock? I seem to remember being able to reduce it to a small transparent icon, but I can't find anywhere to opt for that. Or was that Windowshade (which is not yet Leopard ready)?

MD - just curious as to why? If it's on the desktop, it could be covered up by other things? I personally find the minimize to the dock feature to be very handy. That, or just keep everything at maximum size and use Expose, you can actually keep that in the dock now as an application.
Between minimize, expose and spaces... you really have an infinite number of ways to handle your open documents and applications. Good luck.

If Adobe Digital Edition 4.0.3 is open and no book is opened, it crashes when minimizing the window

I am trying to find a fix for this issue and I saw on a lot's of post, that people are having the same problem as I am with Adobe Digital Edition 4.0.3. Problems with Audio Stutter when moving minimizing/maximizing windows

I am using an Emu 1820m (ASIO driver) with AA3.0. I'm using the same ASIO driver mode in both edit and multi-track view.
In multi-track view, I can have several tracks going (i.e., 24 tracks as I type this) and the audio is fairly rock solid. I can go to other programs, move windows around, minimize/maximize windows, etc. and the audio is glitch free. This is while running the Emu 1820m at 48k/24-bit and 2ms latency!
However, in the single edit view, this is another story. When I have an audio playing in the edit view, I get many audio glitches with audio events. The worst is when I minimize/maximize any window (not just AA3). I get a "brzzzzzt" while the window minimizes/maximizes. I can make this stop by disabling animations when minimizing/maximizing windows; however, why does mult-track view behave fine even with animations on?
Also, in single edit view, moving windows around causes a lot of dropouts in audio (but again, not in multi-track view.)
Can anyone shed any light as to what is going on here?
A very extreme case to show the problem even further:
In multi-track view, load up some tracks and play them. Now run dxdiag (while the multi-tracks are playing) and on the display tab, run the Direct3D tests. Even with the Direct3D tests running, the AA3.0 audio plays flawlessly while in multi-track mode. Now, play a file in Edit mode. Do the same test with dxdiag while the file is playing - GLITCH CITY!
This doesn't happen in other audio programs I have (i.e., Sound Forge, Sonar, etc.)
Please, someone, shed some light on this issue!

SteveG, I don't believe it is an 1820m issue at all. Do you have a single or multi-core processor? This behavior did not occur on my old P4 3GHz system. I only started observing it when I built this quad core system about a month ago.
By the way, today I replaced my mobo with one of the same brand and model and the behavior still exists (to rule out a defective mobo.) I've also tried 3 different video cards (although they were all NVIDIA) and the problem remains no matter which card I use.

As I was typing the first post, I verified that I was using the Emu 1820m ASIO driver in both Edit and Multitrack views. (As I was writing it, it crossed my mind that I might have it set to something else in one mode.) However, it is the same in both.
One thing I forgot to mention is that there is one more app that behaves similarly (Reaper). All other apps (Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur) do not show this behavior and are rock solid.

I believe Sonar, FL Studio, eXT, Ableton Live, Sound Forge, Wavosaur, etc.. are doing something properly when playing back audio and/or initializing plugins that Adobe Audition and Reaper are failing to do properly with certain hardware configurations.

After Firefox update, my gmails open up in separate instances of minimized Firefox windows. Any suggestions?

After an automatic Firefox update, my gmails started to open up in separate instances of minimized Firefox windows. The former way was that any email I clicked on would open full screen in the same instance of Firefox and in the same maximized window. Any suggestions on how to get back to the former way?

First, try to update to the recently released Firefox 15, see if that resolves your issue. [[Update Firefox to the latest version]].
If it doesn't, try to Reset Firefox.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Programs randomly minimizing on windows 8.1

Hello would someone please let me know what the solution to this issue...? The programs are randomly minimizing, word, excel, IE, on my widows 8.1 laptop. It occurs in desktop mode and when I open word, excel from the 8.1 screen. I have
disabled Aero Snap. The threads on the previous posts have a lot of bickering etc.

If my understanding is right, all programs both desktop app and metro app will randomly minimize themselves. How about the Windows explorer and Control panel?
Do you mean all apps minimize at the same time or one app one time? Please share us a screenshot if you willing to.
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. As this is a laptop, please check if the mouse flickering caused by the touchpad. Please update the touchpad driver to the last version from the manufacturer website and check if this issue still exists.
2. Unplug the mouse and check if this issue still exists
3. Run the Anti-virus software to scan malware.

When doing the app exposé gesture, is it normal to see a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen after minimizing a window?

I noticed that when I open two windoes (say Safari and Trash can) and minimize both windows so they go on the dock, when I do the swip down gesture with 3 fingers (App Expose´) there is a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen. Does it happen to every macbook pro out there? Is this normal? Hope it's not a display screen problem...

You would have to have multiple pages of the app minimized.
This is what it looks like with Safari with 1 page open and 4 minimized.

AIR app does not open anymore after minimizing on windows

Hi guys,
I need some help in figuring out a strange issue I am facing.
I have an AIR app whih is minimizable. When I run it on windows XP and minimize it, it gets minimized. But
clicking on the task bar does not open the app anymore. The task manager shows that the CPU usage for the app has gone upto 50%
and it consistently stays over there with out recovering from it.
Right clicking on it and then trying it to close shows me the windows dialog: "the program is not responding".
MInimizing and re-opening works fine on MAC.
Anyone has ideas on what might be happening? Suggestions or pointers on how to debug this?

It turns out that in one of my UI components, the top level item was a VBox which was using a list of HBox components and the height of each HBox component was set to VBox height /5.
I modified the height to be set to "100%" for each HBox.
and everything worked fine.
I really do not know how it can cause the application to hang earlier.

Tabs disappear on minimizing browser window

Hello,
My application has 10 one level tabs.All are visible and works fine.But when i minimize the browser window some times 7 and sometimes 8 tabs are visible and the rest disappears.This happens only when browser window is minimized.When i maximize window then i can see all the 10 tabs. Not sure where to correct exactly.Any tips would be helpful.Thanks

Minimized Aperture window won't restore by clicking on Dock item

Aperture 3.3.1 OS X 10.7.4
If you minimize an app you can restore the window by single-clicking the icon in the Dock. This works fine for most apps, but not for Aperture. Clicking (or double-clicking) the Dock icon doesn't restore the window. The only way to restore the minimized window is to right-click the icon and select Aperture from the menu, or click the icon so the Aperture menu appears in the menu bar, then select Window->Aperture.
I'm sure it used to work like every other app, but I don't remember when it started misbehaving like this.
Anyone know the cause and a solution?

Thanks guys for confirming that Aperture should behave like any other app.
One thing I didn't mention (because I didn't think it was relevant) is that I have Aperture "pinned" to the Dock (right-click, Options->Keep In Dock).
I've just removed it (Options and uncheck Keep In Dock), restarted Aperture from Finder, the re-checked Keep In Dock, and now it works as expected. Guess it must have been a corrupted Dock icon or something Anyway, it's now working again.

ITunes will not stay minimized under Windows 7

I recently installed the full release version of Windows 7 (64-bit), along with iTunes 9 and its latest update. The issue is that, when minimized, iTunes constantly pops back up to the front, even though it is not requesting any user input. I've used iTunes 9 on the same PC when it was running Vista 64-bit and never encountered this issue, nor is any other application behaving this way under Windows 7.
Anyone else experience this? A Google search found some single posts in other forums from people experiencing the same issue, but with no responses.

Seems to have stopped - not sure why but I suspect it was getting stuck trying to find a couple of album covers after I imported my library (though there was no notice of this). Anyway, I walked through the entire library and added any missing covers and it seems to have stopped the behaviour.

Triggering external exe/app minimized (or window focus control) in AIR?

I'm wrapping up a big flex/AIR app and very excited about it, but there's one thing that's bugging me: in the program I need to repeatedly open and run external files (speech recognition scripts) but when I do so, the window for that executable pops up briefly before minimizing...
The program is functional, but sure seems distracting and not too classy to see these windows briefly pop up and disappear.... is there any good way to either:
a) Force the executable to start completely hidden/behind the scenes (ie. not minimize on load, but stay hidden/minimized all along)
b) If not, is there a way I can control the window z-depth/ordering/layering/focus so that I can keep the AIR window floated to the top at all times (thus hiding those other windows that briefly pop up)?

One Click Minimizing iTunes-Windows 7

Is it normal not to be able to minimize iTunes by clicking the icon on the taskbar? You can maximize it, but when the iTunes window is open, clicking the button does nothing. You have to use the minimize button in the upper right corner of the window. XP allowed minimizing and maximizing from the taskbar.

I don't believe it, I didn't do anything different and all of a sudden it is working. Wierd.

Minimized JFrame window to front

Hi,
I having some trouble trying... to bring my frame to the front
I have a frame( frame1) and a button when clicked opens one more frame ( frame2).
I always want to make sure that only one frame2 window is open .. so i keep and check and when the button is clicked if frame2 is not opened then open a new instance .. else bring the existing window to Front.
Now toFront works properly if the frame is open and have some other windows open on top for frame2 ... when i click the button it comes to front... but when I minimize the frame2 window and then i hit the button again .. it doesn't come to the front. I want to make sure that the frame2 window comes back up .. even if it is minimized ...

If there are several always-on-top windows the order in which they stay relative to each other is not specified and is platform dependent.
This will force your window to be always on top of all other windows.

Artwork/player window stuck minimized in windows 8

Hi,
I have a bug in itunes on my windows 8.1 sony laptop. When I play music and ctrl+click the alum cover on top to bring up the full-sized artwork/player window, the window comes up minimized and stays stuck minimized. Every one in about five attempts brings up the window correctly, but I have to restart the laptop (or reinstall itunes) between attempts; simpy quitting and restarting the program does nothing. It behaves like a normal window in every way (hovering the mouse over it produces a preview as usual), except it's impossible to maximize. Also, it sometimes becomes unstuck by itself after several hours of playing, but usualy not. I'm currently on the latest version 11.1.5.5, but this bug has persisted across previous versions as well for the last year or so. It's not a huge deal but I like my artwork in full size, and this has been quite annoying. Any ideas what's up?

There is a Windows Update KB patch and two registry keys that will prevent uninstallation of the ActiveX plug-in in Win 8 or 8.1. using the Flash Player Uninstaller from here.
Additionally, those files will prevent you from manually reinstalling it even if you manually delete the plug-in files and reg keys. I've been successful at removing the ActiveX plug-in once, but was unable to manually reinstall it.

Minimizing all windows

but in my mac option-command-M is not minimizing windows.. it worked the first time or two I tried, about a week ago, now it does not work at all anymore.. command-M minimizes window I'm on, but option-command-M is completely ignored...
I really hate not being able to minimize all windows quickly, regardless of what program I'm in (and without having to go to Finder first..

the other shortcut only works in Application Services aware applications.
There several Mac window manager applications that are nonApplevon http://www.macupdate.com
just make sure they are 10.6.3 compatible first, and learn how to remove or upgrade them before upgrading your operating system

My Itunes Won't Stay Minimized In Windows Vista

My Itunes won't stay minimized. I will minimize it and then it will pop back up, i don't know if this issue has been addressed before but its driving me insane. what do i do?

I have the same problem. This problem has shown up and gone away many times over the last couple of years. Its the main reason that I rarely use iTunes.
Have you found a solution? I'm tired of buying MP3s from iTunes and playing them in Windows Media Player
