Minimum font

How do I increase the minimum font size Lion uses?

Thanks for your reply, John.
I've tried just typing "16" in to that box but the setting doesn't "stick" - the font doesn't change, even when restarting Safari, and the number reverts to "14" (or whatever it last was) when I check again.
I guess choosing another resolution is an option, but that alters everything on the screen, not just Safari, and things are much "fuzzier" when not at native resolution.
I just wondered if there was some way to change the font size in Safari and make it stick e.g. through editing the plist or through some terminal command. This should theoretically be possible as clicking on "make fonts bigger / smaller" achieves 16 point for individual websites.
Anyway, thanks again for your input, much appreciated.

The new update has screwed up my browser settings, I cannot get them fixed and Im pissed because my computer is an eye-sore to read until this is fixed! EVERYTHING in the browser is smaller, fonts, menus, icons, web page content, pictures, tables, etc. I have set the minimum font in the settings and the text is just to a point where it is easily readable at the maximum size setting, but all the menus and icons are still tiny and hard to read. The last version I had installed worked fine with no add-ons needed. Everything fit the screen fine and was easily readable without modification. I want this version off my PC and I want the last version I had back on but I dont know what version it was!!!!!!! ARARGGGG
In fact, this stupid troubleshooting window that I am in filling out this form doesnt fit the page right at all, and edges of the text are cut off, so Im not even sure what some of these boxes are asking for!!

*Try to adjust the DPI setting, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/layout.css.dpi
*Try to set the pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to 2 on the about:config page.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
If you need to increase (or decrease) the font size on websites then look at:

  • How to set minimum font size in mail app?

How can I set a minimum font size in mail app? I have received mails that have a font size that seems to be smaller than 9pt which results being nearly unreadable. Sure its possible to increase the font size by pressing cmd + "+" but this setting isn't remembered for the next time I open these mails. Prior to Mavericks there was a solution to write the minimum font size to the defaults. Anything similar for Yosemite?

No, this only applies to the font size for the header displayed above the mail content and the font type and size of the Rich Text mails your are composing. With this setting you cannot modify the font size or type of received messages.

  • Minimum Font Size not working in Safari 4.0.4

Setting the minimum font size in Safari is ineffectual. Also, there seems to be another problem: the right and left sides of the search box on the right on this page are doubled and look like this: (( )). Are there any solutions to fix these? Thanks.

This is a know issue that the hosts know. This problem has been happening for many months. Apple doesn't own the program that makes this forum happen. So it's not an easy fix for the host to do. Maybe on day they get the maker of the forum program to fix it. The search box still works.

  • Minimum font size RichEditableText

I'm using RichEditableText (with a TextConverter textFlow) to display emails that have been received which works great for bot clear text as well as HTML emails, however sometimes the HTML is really tiny.
Now I've looked at this for a while and it always appears to be caused by a fault in the HTML markup in the received email.
Some had a tag like ...<FONT SIZE="1"><SPAN STYLE='font-size:9.0px'>... in it and others had other similar reasons for it to appear very small.
I obviously can't control what tags different mail clients put in their HTML mails, but does anyone know if there's a way of setting like a minimum font size for this RichEditableText so even though the HTML says it should be font size 1, it's actually displayed at the minimum size?
    I'm currently using this:
         <s:RichEditableText id="noteText"     selectable="true" editable="false" textFlow="{TextConverter.importToFlow(theEmail, TextConverter.HTML_FORMAT)}" />
    Thanks

Hmm, unfortunately this means i'll have to scan and reformat HTML as it comes in and replace <font size=xx> so the minimum size is i,e, 10px.
All doable, but just a bit frustrating that there still is no simple way to display some basic HTML (and I don't want to go down the iFrame route).
Oh, I also noticed the rendering of textFlow HTML in a richtexteditor is extremely slow and it stops rendering when it comes across:
I'll file seperate bug reports for those as well.
Luckily the Halo Text still does the trick even with it's known HTML limitations.
    Ah well. Thanks anyway.

  • Minimum Font Size doesn't work

I've set Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size to 10 pt, but when I use Zoom Out, I get smaller fonts: The relation between font sizes on a page is kept.
What I want is FF 1.5 behavior: Minimum Font Size is honored even on Zoom Out, which results in shrinking the headlines only and finally ending with all Text in the same size after some repetitions of Zoom Out.
I have disabled Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above".
I have set Minimum Font Size for several encodings, but maybe the reason for the current behavior is a missing UTF-8 setting in the Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > "Fonts for" listbox ? Most pages including this support.mozilla.com use that encoding.

Main Menu -> View -> Zoom -> Zoom Text Only

  • Set "minimum font size" to 13 hack

If you try to type in "13" in the Safari prefs for minimum font size ( Advanced prefs - "never display fonts smaller than" ), the app will not let you type "1" then anything else.
    So, you are stuck with 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 18 etc
If you want "13", you cannot select or type it in.
Hack: Type "13" into a text / word processor, select & copy it, then hilite the field in Safari and paste in the "13".
    Works fine!

    Thanks ...................

  • How do you specify a minimum font size for incoming mail?

Is there a way to specify a minimum font size for incoming mail messages? Mail I get from others is almost unreadable and I always have to manually (apple +) increase the size.
As a test, a friend on a PC (most mail I get comes from Windows) kept increasing the size he sent me, but when I received it there was no change in size on my end.
I can't find anything in Mail's menus and preferences to change this behavior.
    Mail 2.07; OS 10.4.6.
    Thanks,
    Cathy

if i had the problem then i'd make a backup copy of
    my ~/library/preferences/com.appple.mail.plist file,
open the original in property list editor, look for
any likely elements that have small or negative font
sizes and set them to, say, 12, save the changes and
    see if that helped
Found the file; couldn't open it (tried Text Edit?) to make any changes.
You can use the following trick to force Mail to
always use a larger minimum font size on received
messages - some HTML messages might not look exactly
as intended but at least you can now read them:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Open the Terminal
    (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and type in the
    following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail
    MinimumHTMLFontSize 13
    3. Restart Mail.app and your HTML messages are
    readable.
Of course you can set the point size to whatever you
    like.
Found file; was not comfortable inputing text as this simple task did not behave properly.
PC friend said other Mac user reported this same anomally with receiving small text from him. I have over a dozen different PC users that I correspond with where I have this problem. It seems to be on the Mac end.

  • I have Firefox 9.0.1, and a few days ago my font became Bold, I am using Times New Roman, this seems to be also the case in IE, but the Chrome is not affected, also the fonts in my Word are fine, how can I fix this problem? Thanks!

    Firefox 9.0.1,
When i write in the search box on Google the font is bold and on some website it is bold also in the gmail but on other sites it is fine.
Please let me know how can I fix this.

So, you do not see any fonts bold that shouldn't be bold?
What are your current default font settings?
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size in case you need a larger font, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.

  • How can I see the entire mail message without making it smaller font and not having to scroll to the right?

when i open a message in hotmail i have to scroll to the right to see the entire sentence. I did not have to do this before what has changed? Me or you?
    Thanks

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
    *Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
    *NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause such issues.

  • JavaScript displays oversize fonts in multiple browsers (OS 10.4.10)

My web site uses JavaScript for tabbed dropdown menus and scrolling type. Some users with OS 10.4.10 report that the type displayed by the JavaScript is oversize. For tabbed menus this causes the row of tabs to become too long so that the last tab(s) of the line wrap to a new line, causing them to become inaccessible. This problem does not occur for all users of OS 10.4.10 -- the tabs display properly for some and not for others. For those users with the problem, it occurs with Safari, Camino, Firefox and Omniweb, but not the old IE. I have tested the page on Safari, Opera, Netscape, Camino & Firefox on Mac (10.3.9), as well as Win IE, Netscape and Firefox, but cannot reproduce the problem. While so far I've only gotten reports of this occuring for OS 10.4.10 users, it has occurred on non-Intel as well as Intel Macs.
The web page is at: http://pathwaysoflight.org
Any ideas on the cause and resolution?

    Robert,
    For what it's worth...
I viewed your site using updated versions of Camino, Firefox, Safari, Shiira, Opera and IE. With the exception of IE 5.2.3, I was able to reproduce the trouble in each browser when I set a minimum font size to anything above number 11. Setting the minimum font to 12 caused the "Links" menu to get crowded out; setting to 14 would cause multiple menus to become jumbled. The problem occurred whether my display's resolution was set to 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768. The good news was that in each case resetting the minimum font size (within the respective browsers' preferences) to 11 solved the problem.
Viewing the site in IE, which doesn't feature a minimum font size setting option, presented its own difficulties: mousing over any of the menu items expanded the drop-down menus as expected, but moving the mouse away from, or clicking outside the menu area, would fail to collapse the menus. The only workaround for me was to refresh the page and try to keep the mouse pointer away from the menus.
A couple things to look into perhaps...
    Good luck!

  • Font smoothing not working

I am using OS X Yosemite. Back in earlier versions of OS X, there was an option that would set the minimum font smoothing size. Fonts at a lower size than this in most applications would appear jagged. I set this to the highest value (9-12 px or something). After upgrading, the option for this was lost, and all the apps that this affected have jagged text that looks very annoying. This is especially true in Wolfram Mathematica:
Is there any way to fix this (i.e., lowering the font smoothing minimum font size) and get rid of this issue?

wine just follows my freetype2/fontconfig settings now

This is really simple, but I'm missing it. How do you change the font size of a text field in IB?
Adjusting min size in the inspector does not work.

Also, using the standard Cmd-T as in other OS X applications will bring up the same font dialog box.
Don't feel too bad, that took me a month to figure out! I too kept fiddling with minimum font size...
