MinionPro v. 2004 and Serbian glyphs for Wikipedia

At the Serbian Wikipedia we are thinking about an OpenType solution to correctly display Serbian glyphs instead of the standard/Russian ones. We are scanning the Web for fonts containing Serbian glyphs and I personally think MinionPro should be our choice. But the 2004 version (the one included with Adobe Reader) displays an annoying kerning flaw whenever the characters u+0423 CYRILLIC CAPITAL LETTER U and u+0431 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER BE meet each other. I don't know how to insert a .pdf here in order to make you understand better the matter, so I limit myself to tell you that CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER BE anomalously collides with CYRILLIC CAPITAL LETTER U. Please notice that the kerning flaw only happens with the localized Serbian form, never with the standard Russian one.
Now, people told me I can manually fix the kerning, but that is definitely not the solution for usage in Wikipedia where as less user interaction as possible is required. People also told me that there is a kind of new technology for embedding the font that enables on screen visualization without actual installation, but this too is inappropriate for Wikipedia because people are expected to print articles and possibly to store them.
So, I am not asking you to release the 2010 version as freeware, but could you just patch the 2004 version and make it available for download?
Thank you in advance for your collaboration.
P.S.
Just in case you knew Serbian here is the link for the topic: http://sr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%BF%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B8%D1%98%D0%B0: %D0%A2%D1%80%D0%B3/%D0%92%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B8%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B 0#.D0.A1.D1.80.D0.BF.D1.81.D0.BA.D0.B8_.D0.B3.D0.BB.D0.B8.D1.84.D0.BE.D0.B2.D0.B8_.D0.BD.D 0.B0_.D0.92.D0.B8.D0.BA.D0.B8.D0.BF.D0.B5.D0.B4.D0.B8.D1.98.D0.B8

This seems to indicate that the term +glyph variant+ is as much political as technical.
Access to Arial Unicode MS Devanagari is blocked because if it were not, apps might use it and display garbage instead the correct Devanagari they produce when using Apple's font.
This might not matter if Devanagari MT worked in Word 2008. To get round this problem, I've downloaded a free font, which works fine in Word.
What font is that? No Unicode font will display correct Devanagari in Word for Mac, although that might not be obvious if you do not know how to read this script.
http://m10lmac.blogspot.com/2007/04/pitfalls-of-working-with-complex.html
Regarding the other point about Adobe Garamond Expert, yes, this is a Type 1 font I bought about 10 years ago. As you suggest, I'll explore this issue further on the MS forums. I did install FontForge, as you suggest, and created a new font with clean oldstyle glyphs. However, once again, Word did not recognize this font in either otf or ttf format, even though other applications did.
Check to make sure you have both the font suitcase and the outline printer fonts installed for AGE.
I'm puzzled that Word would not recognize the .ttf/.otf fonts you made.

  • AddOnRegDataGen.exe of version 2004 and 2005

    Dear Experts/Gurus,
Are there any differences between AddOnRegDataGen.exe of version 2004 and 2005 especially for add-on developed
by partner or customer ? if yes, what should I do to my add-on ? I just did the following steps:
    1. Recompile the add-on after put identifier string generated using add-on identifier generator in SBO 2005A
    2. Creating registration file using AddOnRegDataGen.exe of version 2005 after created installer
    3. Regiter the add-on using add-on administration
Did I miss something beside the above steps ? because the add-on can not run in the SBO 2005. The add-on is developed using SDK SBO 2004A. I appreciate your answers. TIA
    Rgds,

    Hi Steve,
Some new fields were added between versions 2004 and 2005. But if you open the AddOnRegDataGen.exe window you will be able to see if something is not filled in your addon.
Where are you having problems? While installing or when trying to run your addon? What is the error message?
The steps you did are right:
    1. Recompile addon with 2005 references
    2. Create installer.exe
    3. Create .ard
    4. Register addon in B1
AddOnInstallAPI.dll has also changed between 2004 and 2005 versions. It should work without any changes but you better change your installer to avoid problems in following versions.
Are you using B1DE to generate your installer? You can download B1DE tools from B1 main page, SDK tools page.
    Hope it helps
    Trinidad.

  • New IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s

In May 2006 IBM System p brand and SAP announced the direction to enhance the IBM AIX 5L JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and SAP NetWeaver 2004s based applications. The new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver applications on AIX 5L is 100% upward compatible for all SAP business applications and, compared to the classical AIX JDK, provides a more consistent runtime behavior, enhances memory management, and improves debugging capabilities.
<b>General Availability (GA) of the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s on AIX 5L</b>
As part of a staged release process aligned between IBM and SAP a customer pilot program was started in August 2006 followed by a Controlled Availability (CA) program. Based on positive customer feedback resulting from real production usage and the very encouraging internal test results, the new IBM JDK on AIX 5L is/will be generally available
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004 SP14 and above starting at 5th of February 2007
                    and
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004s SP06 and above starting at 30th of March 2007.
This means systems running above SAP NetWeaver releases in an AIX 5L environment are allowed to use the new IBM JDK without restrictions.
This announcement does not affect the use and support of the classical AIX JDK outside SAP environments.
<b>Transition Plan to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 on AIX 5L</b>
SAP will support the classical and the new JDK in parallel for a limited number of NetWeaver support packages. Afterwards only the new IBM JDK will be supported:
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004 the first support package only supporting the new JDK will be SP21 (planned date for SP21 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001130682005E),
    •     for SAP NetWeaver 2004s it will be SP14 (planned date for SP14 see http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700004584092005E).
So please plan a transition to the new JDK prior to the upgrade to these support packages.
SAP and IBM strongly believe that the switch to the new JDK will improve your experience with JAVA based SAP applications on AIX 5L. Both companies recommend upgrading to the new IBM JDK 1.4.2 for SAP applications running on AIX 5L as soon as it matches your company’s maintenance plans.

You can download the JDK directly from the sun java website...

I don't think Ubuntu is supported...

    2. Press "Delete" and go to BIOS setup while computer bootup.
Check BIOS advanced features and see if BIOS flash write control is enabled
(This option must be enabled. If you can not find this setting, it means the BIOS can be
    flashed.)
    3. Boot from MS-DOS boot diskette and get a:\> prompt.
    4. Type "", then press ENTER
    5. The flash program will then ask "Do you want to save BIOS?", please press "N" for no. The when you see Press 'Y' to program or 'N' to Exit, please press "Y" to continue.
    6. After flashing complete, remove floppy and reset the system .
    7. Press DELETE or F1 when prompted at first reboot after flashing.
    8. Load BIOS optimized defaults, then save settings and exits.
    Drivers & Needed Files:
(Note: All these drivers are for Windows XP.)
Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.40
(Please use at your own risk, these are LEAKED drivers. Password for the .zip file is "ocworkbench rules". Also, you will need to rename the WinXP_2K folder in IDE to either WinXP or Win2K else the installer doesn't pick it up.) Thanks for the link Wonkanoby!
*NEW* Leaked Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 5.03
More leaked drivers? Seems some parts of the drivers are older and some are newer.
    1. Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Web Install) -or- Windows XP Service Pack 1A (Full Install)
    2. Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Web Install) -or- Microsoft DirectX 9.0b (Full Install)
    3. Nvidia nForce3 Chipset Drivers Version 4.24
    4. AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver Version 1.1.0.14
    5. Nvidia Video Card Driver Version 56.72 -or- Omega Nvidia Video Card Driver Version v1.5303
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard Nvidia drivers.)
    5. ATI Video Card Driver Version 4.7 -or- Omega ATI Video Card Driver Version 2.5.51
(The Omega drivers are third party drivers optimized for gaming, most prefer these over the standard ATI drivers.)
    6. Onboard Sound Driver (Realtek AC'97 Audio Codec) Version A3.61
It is HIGHLY reccomended that you install the drivers/needed files in the order listed above. Please note that there are two #5's because you either install one or the other depending on your video card, do not install both of them.
You will come across a problem here though. You can't install the chipset drivers without installing the Windows service pack and DirectX first, but the Windows service pack and DirectX installs need the internet to download files and you won't have working internet until you install the chipset drivers. Here's what I did to get around this. Instead of downloading the web install versions of Windows service pack and DirectX, download the full version and and put them along with all the other drivers on a backup hard drive or burn them to a CD, this way you will have all the drivers you need when it's time to install them and none of them will require the internet to download files.
Another note when installing drivers. Apparently the Nvidia chipset drivers also come with drivers for the onboard sound, but people seem to agree that the Realtek onboard sound drivers are better. When you are installing the Nvidia chipset drivers, just be sure to uncheck the box for sound drivers when it asks you which drivers you would like to install. Now you can safely install the Realtek drivers without any chance of conflicting sound drivers. Thanks for the tip Wonkanoby!

oh.  IIRC the installer just says USB 2.0 will be fully functional after SP1 is installed.  So after you install SP1 you go into device manager and u click update driver and it will auto search and update the driver.
Simplicity-wise, i guess its pretty much equal.  It might take less preparation to just copy DX9 full onto a CD and install that first, then nforce driver, then right away you have yoru internet connection.

Do it with a Firewire cable (buy a 800/400 adapter if you need it) - the USB transfer takes a much longer time.
Start up your old PowerMac G4 holding down the "T" key, for target disk mode.
On your new MacBook Pro open "Migration Assistant" in your utilities folder.
Connect the 2 computers by firewire cable and follow the prompts in Migration Assistant.

  • Is there a script to find and replace glyphs?

I am using Adobe Illustrator CC 2014, Build 10.1.0.70.
I am looking for a way to quickly find and change certain glyphs within a typeface much like InDesign's Find/Change feature with a script that runs through saved queries. Is this at all possible..?

Hi Steve, thanks for your quick response.
My apologies I should've made myself clearer... I was more thinking about a script to run a chain of preset saved find and replace queries together. I have 48 individual glyphs from one typeface that I need to consistently apply across whole ducunents. Rather than click through each glyph for every single document I come across I was hoping there was a way to automate the process.
    Thanks

Open the Preferences panel (Edit menu on Windows, Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and select the Site category. There are two checkboxes there for dependent files. Make sure both are selected. The Dreamweaver default is NOT to upload/download dependent files. You need to click Yes, if you want the dependent files to be included.

  • Embedded glyphs for alpha not working for non-Latin letters

Even after reading through all the posts here, I'm still
confused about why embedding is necessary for alphas on text and
how embedding works, so maybe someone can sort it out and help me
    with my problem:
I have a FLA that is trying to present the same script in
(the user's choice of) several languages -- including non-Latin
alphabets like Korean, Japanese, Russian, Chinese and Arabic. I'm
using the Strings library to load translations into my text movie
    clips on the stage.
The language stuff works great except that alpha tweens
weren't working. So I selected the movie clip symbols (three of
them) in the library and told Flash to embed all glpyhs. Each of
these symbols is using Trebuchet MS, so my thinking is that I'm not
exceeding the 65K limit because I'm embedding the same glyphs for
each. (But I'm not sure if that limit is for the SWF or per
symbol.) I only have one other font in the FLA and for that one,
I'm just embedding English alpha characters.
(Perhaps as an aside, I also included these fonts Stone Sans
and Trebuchet MS as fonts in my library, but I don't understand
whether this is absolutely necessary or if embedding glyphs
    eliminates the need for these.)
So with those glyphs embedded, my text alpha tweens work
beautifully. However -- and this is where I begin to shed tears --
all the Korean and Cyrillic text is gone. It's just punctuation and
no characters. I don't have Chinese, Japanese or Arabic text loaded
yet, but I imagine that these would suffer from the same problem.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to create more than one
movie to achieve my multilanguage goal? (Or worse, render each
language separately? -- yuck!) In my old version of Flash (just
up'd to CS3) I could tween alpha text with no problem, so why is
    all this embedding even necessary?
    Thanks,
    Tim

Is this just impossible? Or really hard?

    Hi Rahul,
Try using the Windows Media Format SDK with help from the below document:

I have a fairly unusual situation and am looking for some

Dreamweaver MX 2004 and MX Professional 2004? I once had MX, the

  • Time constraint classes and  screen number for absence type

    Hi all,
What should be the Time constraint classes and  screen number for absence type.
The different absence types are annual leave, sick leave , study leave , personal leave, maternity leave , juryduty leave nad leave without pay etc
    Kindly help.
    Regards,

The time constaint class depends on the client requirement.
eg.if they want that a error needs to be generated while overlapping absences or warning message is required.
    Time contraints comprise the following:
Time constraint classes that determine which collisions in time data records are allowed
Time constraint table that contains the time-based collisions allowed in the time data records
Time constraint indicator that displays whether a new data record that collides with an existing time data record can be transferred to the system or whether the transfer is prohibited
For screen number you will have to see if the is quota based deduction or just an absence.  Here is the documentation of screen number from SAP
In the standard system, the following numbers are allocated to the screens:
    1. 2000 - General absence
This screen is used for all absences which do not require special processing (such as paid leave of absence for getting married).
    2. 2001 - Quota deduction
This screen is used for entering data on leave or time in lieu of overtime.
    3. 2002 - Work incapacity
Use this screen for all absence types where continued pay should be taken into account automatically by the system.
    4. Special screens have been developed for the following absence types:
2003 - maternity protection, parental leave
    2004 - military and non-military service

Good news is that I can access all my documents. Bad news is I had to pay $150 for it.
I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution before buying.  I did not try the launch terminal solution....
I will check back so I can find out what to do should this happen again.
More possible bad news.  If you had followed what fane_j had asked you to do you might have found out it wasn't microsoft's fault for your problem and wouldn't have had to spend $150.  Because while you may have an Office that works, fane_j was not suggesting a solution but probing for a trojan (google "flashback trojan") that has been crashing powerpc code which is what Office 2004 is.
So if you do have the trojan, while you can run a version of Office, the trojan may still be in your system since installing a version of Office isn't going to remove it.  So I'll make another request.  Launch Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and copy/paste the following line into the terminal window and hit return:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
If you see anything other than a "does not exist" error message you almost certainly do have the trojan and post the results in this thread.
The choice is yours.  You can ignore this and take the risk.  Or do what has been requested.
