Minor Nit - Default Install Directory in Windows 7
I notice that on installation, the new empty catalog is installed to the user's My Pictures folder.
With Windows 7, the Library feature allows one to have multiple directories for photos (not just My Pictures) in the Pictures library, and allows one to set a default directory for new files to be created/written in. IMHO, LR4 should be cognizant of the Pictures library in Win 7 and default to installing new catalogs, etc. to the default save location in the Pictures library.
That is all.
Safari is 32-bit. It's run through the Windows-on-Windows-64 machinery on your system. The SafariSetup.exe installer contains a 64-bit version of Bonjour, though (in case the installer gets used on a 64-bit system), so Bonjour will be 64-bit for you, as required.

Trouble getting the default user directory under Windows XP
I m trying to get the default user directory under windows XP SP3.
To do so, I'm using
System.getProperty("user.home");
I was expecting to get a path like "C:\Documents and Settings\user", nstead of that I get "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Destop".
I checked the %USERPROFILE% and %HOMEPATH% window's environment variables and both of them are correctly set ( set to "C:\Documents and Settings\user").
Is there any way to get the right path other than using : System.setProperty("user.home", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\user"); ?Thanks WalterLaan,
The System.getenv("USERPROFILE") method will, at least, fix the problem under win XP.
I guess i'll have to write a more refined method to be able to deploy my application under differents OSes.

How do I specify the JDK install directory (on Windows, and on other platforms) using silent install parameters?
I know how to specifry the install directory for the "public install directory" for the JRE, but what about the JDK directory? I don't want to put it on the "C" drive .I know the answer.
You can use something like this: jre-6-rc-windows-i586.exe /s INSTALLDIR=D:\java\jre
Then JRE is installed into D:\java\jre

The Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool must be installed on a domain joined computer running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or later,or Windows Server 2008 r2 Service Pack 1 or later
Please help on this why this happing when i try to installed DirSync software.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SD card / external drive as the default install location for software applications? Primarily interested in apps installed from the windows store. This should be available in the settings
charm within the windows store. This must have been overlooked in the development of windows 8.1 or is a bug.

The registry method does not work with 8.1. I found this out the hard way. Doing it on 8.1 will leave you reinstalling the OS if you didn't do a SRP beforehand. -

KB2775511 install fails on Windows 7 SP1 x86
I receive the following error in the windowsupdate.log when trying to install KB2775511.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070005: Update for Windows (KB2775511)
I've found other posts that suggested to look at KBs 947821 and 968003. I've tried both articles and I'm still receiving the same error above. Has anyone else had this issue and/or resolved it

Unable to install DPM2012R2 on Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 2012 Server :(
Hi together
I'm trying installing (fresh) on a new Win 2008 R2 System DPM2012R2, i tryed the same on Server 2012.
I got every time a error message while its installing DPM (after the SQL prepraration).
I tested with SQL 2008 R2 Standard and SQL 2012 Standard without success.
On the Setup, the setup Clients dies and gives me dotn.net error Message:

How to set the user's Default joboptions directory?
Hello Experts,
When we installed Acrobat Pro 8.x on our Win XP Pro systems our systems were NOT in a Windows Domain. At that time the default location for user-created/customized joboptions files was:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
where <Username> is the name of the LOCAL Windows user.
A few years ago we migrated to a Windows Domain and converted our LOCAL users to domain users and disabled, but did not delete, the LOCAL user's account. We did not remove the LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory structure either.
Our users now log into a DOMAIN rather than the LOCAL account.
As a result of that process the user's Documents and Settings directory structure changed to;
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>
where DOMAINNAME is, of course, our Windows Domain Name.
Now we are beginning to use Acrobat Distiller joboptions and I notice that when Acrobat/Distiller goes to save a user-created/customized joboptions file the default location has remained;
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
which is NOT the user who is logged in
Acrobat/Distiller should use the Documents and Settings directory of the user who is actually logged in which is;
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
This anomaly has created some confusion and appears to have created a dependency of the old LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory preventing us from deleting it.
Question:
How can we force Acrobat/Distiller to use the Documents and Settings directory of the logged in user (eg: the Domain user)?
In other words, how do we set the user's default joboptions directory?
Pointers/tips/and tricks are most welcome.if the user is the one running the program, you can always get the home directory using System.getProperties ("user.home");
If you are trying to get the properties of another user, you could try using setProperties to change the user name first, before getiting the home directory, but it probably won't work because of the security manager. You could read the /etc/passwd file and parse the path out, but once again, the user of the code would have to have appropriate permission. -
Oracle 11g install issues on Windows 7
I have had some problems installing Oracle on Windows 7 in that it seemed to crash while checking prerequisites. After several attempts it for some reason continued the installation. I had accepted the default settings and was installing from a USB drive to the same drive. The install did have a few error messages along the way such as "file not found. F:\app\ben\product\11.2.0\dbhome_2\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\em.ear" and ""file not found. F:\app\ben\product\11.2.0\dbhome_2\ctx\admin\dr0ulib.sql.sbs". Also, towards the end it gave a message "Template General_Purpose.dbc does not exist. Please specify an existing template for database creation. <OK>". Despite these errors it seemed to successfully install. On the other hand I cannot log in to it as I attempt to try to set up some kind of basic database for myself. I go to the BIN directory and run sqlplus with "system" as the username and the password I had specified, but get the error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error". Googling around a bit I tried to see if Oracle Services was running, but only saw OracleMTSRecoveryService and OracleRemExecService (and could not work out how to get any service running beyond what was listed there). I set up the path ORACLE_HOME to the BIN directory but there was not change in the situation. I just need a to set up a basic database on my PC so I can mess around with it. How can I get this going?

Renaming default install of cfusion
Please help.
I have two web servers running Windows 2003 R2 NLB and
ColdFusion MX 7.0.2 multi-server configuration. I am trying to set
up a CF cluster between the two and have found that I must rename
one of the CF installs. I have renamed the
{jrun-root}/servers/cfusion directory to
{jrun-root}/servers/cfusion2 and have modified the
{jrun-root}/lib/servers.xml file to show:

<directory>{jrun.home}/servers/cfusion2</directory>
</server>
Once this is done, however, I am unable to start the
Macromedia JRun CFusion Server service (nor either of the
ColdFusion ODBC services). The cfusion-out.log shows:
"JRun server "cfusion" does not exist, the server root null
was not found. Please verify that the C:\JRun4\lib\servers.xml file
contains valid data for this server."
I've seen where others have mentioned changing the default
install of cfusion to cfusion1 and/or cfusion2, but no one who has
encountered problems while doing so. Is there something I've
missed? Are there more files that I need to change?

Install exits right after choosing install directory
Trying to install 2004Q2, July 2004, Rev. A of Java Studio Creator on Windows XP service pack 2, 1 gig memory, 8 gig free hard disk space.
Install quietly exits after I accept the default C:\Sun\Creator install directory. That directory gets created but is empty. Based on the install FAQ, tried copying the creator-2004q2-windows-en.exe to C:\temp, created creator-2004q2-windows-en.sb with is.debug=1 there, attempt install from there, same result - empty install directory. No log file present.
I really want to use this tool on a project that's coming up but my time window is closing quickly. Any suggestions?Check if the file name has any other typo. As I mentioned in the previous reply could you please try -is:log <logfile> command line option without '<' and '>' as follows ?
c:\temp> creator-2004q2-windows-en.exe -is:log your_log_file_name
You still need to have the creator-2004q2-windows-en.sp in that directory.

Please post the sapinst.log file from C:\Program Files\sapinst_dir
Make sure you do the following.
1.) Turn off Windows Firewall
2.) Turn off UAC (http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm)
3.) Install right version of JRE/JDK (1.4.2 Update 29)
4.) Set the correct User Environment Variables (JAVA_HOME, SAPSYSTEMNAME)
5.) Delete all SAP folders/contents in TEMP folder of your user profile (C:/Users/ULRICH~1.HNP/AppData/Local/Temp/.....).
5.) Delete C:\Program Files\sapinst_dir\ folder. This will be recreated when SAPinst starts again.
Give this a shot and see what happens.
