Minor wake problem when opening lid
Twice now after installing an update (first 10.5.7 and now the Java update), my MBP has reverted to NOT waking when the lid is opened. This is a parameter that is not easily altered by the user -- I've reset it by resetting the SMC.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
I got that completely wrong. The problem is that my machine won't sleep when I close the lid -- I have to manually put it to sleep. I'll try resetting the SMC tomorrow -- that fixed the problem the first time it happened.

Strange problem when opening word doc situated in WLS virtual dir

we have a strange problem when opening word doc
situated in C:\Oracle\Middleware\as_1\forms\webutil
we put some word docs there and tried to open from forms using for example web.show_document('http://wp0606:9001/forms/webutil/mug00103.doc', '_blank');
no problem using FF, however in IE8 the word doc is shown in its binary format, this also happens when we try to open the doc in IE8
however when we google and search for instance for a test.doc and then click on this url a file save dialog is shown
that's why we believe that this might be due to a configuration issue of WLS
any help would be greatly appreciated

MartinI think you have 2 ways to go here. Figure out what html is from wherever weblogic gets it, meaning you have to delve into the docs, snoop
around in directories and find what it must be sending (This is going to be unavoidable if you are going to change what weblogic is doing.
Sooner or later you have to try to figure out where it gets this stuff from)
or
you can experimentally snoop on your url with a tool like wget or curl. These are fundamental web tools.
The latter is always a useful thing to be able to do. (you need to formulate a query to get the content-type).
Whoever managed to get weblogic to serve any files in the first place probably can figure this out. -

After transferring my files and my profile on my new Macbook pro, I keep encountering a problem when opening "Mail". Each time I try, the app asks me to choose a mail account to add, but I already added the ones I normally use. I can either create/add this new account or click the "cancel" button. I cannot use the program (the main functions are not available). But if I try to add a new account, Mail does not upload the new messages for my existing accounts and if I click "cancel", the application simply close itself. What could I do?
Thanks a lot to your help.It might be worth running Disk Utilities and then Repair Disk Permissions to see if that resolves the problem.

WiFi signals get stronger the closer the machine is to the router and the less interference/blocking of the signal like via walls with metal in them or of thick concrete.
Since the signal emanates outwards in a sphere, your supposed to place the wireless router in a central location in the building so it covers all areas.
The power of the router also has a affect, if your router is old or something not that powerful like a Airport Express, it doesn't have the ability to filter out other signals or enough punch to get through walls etc. or cover a large area as effectively.
If you buy/have a powerful router of newer make and have issues where there is metal in the walls or thick concrete, then you can buy something like OpenMesh and by using Ethernet cables from the back of the router, extend the WiFi signal into other rooms and areas past the blockage.

DV8T Fan grinding sound when opening lid or returning from sleep mode
I don't know if this is a normal thing, but not always, Id say 50% of the time when the computer wakes or I open the lid there is a breif grinding sound coming from the top left area of the body of the notebook. I am pretty sure it is the fan and im wondering if this is going to eventually lead to a ballance issure with the fan causing it to fail and ultimatly kill the CPU.
I'm having a similar problem that I may have cracked. My screen is on but the backlight is off (so the image is practically 100% on resume from hibernate. Have you reset the pram and cleared the smc?

MBP not consistently asking for password when opening lid
While I'm an IT consultant with 30+ years in the PC world, I'm relatively new to the Mac world having just bought my first Mac, a rMBP 13" Late 2013. While I tend to be pretty decent with troubleshooting, I'm having a sporadic issue with it that I'm not sure how to solve.
My desire is to have the unit always ask for a password whenever the lid is opened.
The problem is that about one out of every ten times, when I open the lid on the Macbook it just unlocks and goes straight to the desktop without asking for a password. Being in IT, and frankly maintaining a lot of confidential/security information for my clients, I'm hesitant to take this unit out of the office until I can resolve this issue once and for all. 9/10 times it opens up to the lock screen and asks for my password, which is what I want. But three times in the past week, it has opened straight to the desktop, ready for use. This is a security concern--if the unit is stolen I don't EVER want anyone to be able to log into it and see the data on it. But if it's just opening straight to the desktop it circumvents that protection.
Under Security and Privacy, I have "Require password 5 seconds after sleep or screen saver begins" set, along with (grayed/checked) "Show a message when the screen is locked" and "Disable automatic Login" set. Each of the times I've noticed the lack of password has been after the lid was closed for a while, definitely more than an hour. Earlier today, it happened after te notebook had been closed for at least several hours. It's happened both with the power connected, and running on battery.
Any ideas? Thanks.If after you set the Require Password immediately and it still doesn't ask for the password then your Mac is not going into Sleep mode when the lid is closed. I have seen this happen on my 2011 model after it has been running for days, sleeping and awake for those days. I'lll close the lid at night or when I leave for work and the front white light will come on but not flash, on for a few seconds then off for a few.
A restart fixes it but I never had this problem when Lion or Mt Lion were installed. Only since going to Mavericks. I haven't checked it lately since 10.9.2 but I will. I usually shut it down now when I know I'm not going to use for a period of hours. -
I think I have this problem even on earlier version. The thing is I set open link in new tab and not switch over to the opened tab. My habit is to open a pdf page in the background and let it load first. What happen is that when the pdf page finished loading ( i do not set to download it), it hijacks my middle mouse button control. When i scroll down or scroll up on my original tab, it wont scroll on the tab, but insttead it scrolls on the pdf tab. I have to click on the pdf tab, then i can use the scrolling function on other tabs back. As for when i opened several pdf tabs, it seems i have to click on the tab that just finished loading, that means several times until they all finish loading. It has been getting on my nerve lately. And all pdf trouble i search from google led to unable to open pdf, firefox hang or crash when opening a pdf and the likes.
core-el, i don't see the advantage of that or i can't figure out how i'm supposed to use it. for starters, i have to click the mouse in order to get "add bookmark here" to open, which is no different than clicking on the star in the location bar, or right-clicking on the page. there are also options in the bookmarks toolbar, but they all require clicking the mouse & holding down the right button, etc.
my goal is to use keystrokes only. typing on the keyboard, using both hands, using the space bar & my left pinky finger to tab over are all painless routines for me. as soon as i have to take my fingers off the keyboard & use the mouse, the pain begins.
as i said, in older versions of firefox, all i had to do to bookmark a page was click ctrl>d, then tab over & arrow down, when appropriate, to find the folder & add the bookmark. for me, as a touch-typist whose speed is between 60 & 80 wpm, this is lightning fast.
if i have this wrong, please correct me. i just see it as more mouse clicks that don't save me time or pain. -
Strange problem when opening new message.
I have a rather annoying problem when I open a newly received SMS from a particular contact (lets call him Bill).
When I open the new message from Bill, either by swiping to unlock or touching a banner message at the top of the screen. Instead to being shown the message itself, I will automatically be taken to the 'start new message' screen with none of our message history (i.e. as if I am starting to type an entirely new message to Bill)
I can then cancel this and return to myself and Bill's normal message stream.

In the FM'S u might have declared the import,export,tables parameters.So u have to use these parameters in the source code editor of FM.If u don't use any of these parameters and try to use any other parameters which also not declared in the FM source code,then u will get the error.pz check the parameters u r using in the FM....

Werid problem when open two songs
Hi,
When I have one song already open and I try to open a different one whilst keeping the first one open a strange problem occurs. As soon as the second song is open it appears at the arrange page and then it flicks back to the first songs arrange page. I then select the windows menu option and select the second song and the same thing happens. It flick on to the second song and then back to the first again. Its driving me crazy.. any ideas?This is a common problem when trying to open 2 songs simultaneously. The solution seems to be (first) to close all open windows of both open songs including their arrange windows (but wihtout actually closing the songs in the process). Next, go to the Windows Menu and select song #1. Hit CMD-1 to open an arrange window for it. Re-size it so that it takes up only a portion of the screen. Then go back to the Windows Menu and select song #2. Again, hit CMD-1 to open an arrange window for this song too. You should now have two separate arrange windows visible and no switching. Lemme know if that works.

can anyone help?never had this problem but it might be solved by a simpal re boot, if not and you got your contacts from a pc there might have been an error whilst sync'ing so you're probably best deleting all contacts then instead of a sync use the 'restore' function and just have the contacts selected, thats if you have a back up from your last phone on your pc (from a nokia phone) or you can sync with your old phone via bluetooth
if all else fails open the contacts and when you get the error press Ctrl, Shift and P to copy the screen's image then post it here and one of the advanced members might be able to help -
Laptop screen problem when opening
I use acpid to control my laptop lid behavior instead of systemd. I have it so "vbetool dpms off" gets executed when the lid is closed, and "vbetool dpms on" when the lid is opened. However, once in a while, I will open the lid and it appears that dpms failed to turn on. Closing and reopening the lid is able to set dpms back on.
My graphics card vendor is Intel. The acpi events have never failed to register, so I don't think it has to do with the acpi events not going through.
Any advice on how to determine what's causing this?
UPDATE: I got this behavior to occur while I was on a framebuffer, and this was the output:
