Minumum Mac Hardware for DVX100B 24p

I'm looking at purchasing the DVX100B and I have a Mac G4 1 Ghz Dual Processor with 512 RAM and Final Cut Pro HD 4.5. I went to a link on the Panasonic site and it says the DVX100B 24p footage was tested on a Mac G4 1.25 Ghz Dual Processor. I called Panasonic and they said that's just the machine that it was tested on, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you need that configuration to edit 24p from a DVX100B. I really don't want to find out that I need a newer computer in order to do 24p. Anyone know if my configuration will work ok with all the features on the DVX100B? The panasonic link is: https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/sales_o/ieee1394/
Thanks loads.
Mac G4 1 Ghz Dual Proc 512 RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Final Cut Pro 4.5

That's DV...the easiest format to work with. You machine is fine for this. Get another 512MB RAM and you should be good to go.
OH...and an external firewire drive. Don't capture to your system drive.

  • Whats the best Mac Hardware for Logic?

    I'd appreciate input:
I'm going to upgrade my Mac system. Is a Quad G5, 2.3 GHZ worth the money? Or can I get just as much Logic bang for my buck with a dual G5 2 GHZ, as long as I have plenty of RAM. Wehat is the ideal amount of RAM to have (OK - I know, as much as I can get, but how much RAM do I need to be able to handle a moderate to large amount of tracks/ plug-ins etc.)
    What would YOU reccomend?
    Thanks!

Is there anyone out there using Logic on a quad?
there is, i am sure they will reply here with their experiences.
by way of measuring what you can do, i am still on a G4 1 Ghz DP (state of the art when i got it) and i can manage pretty big orchestral lay-ups with a lot of plug-ins and audio tracks. i rarely have to freeze, but i do try to work efficiently and i am beginning to feel hedged by lack of CPU headroom. lack of memory too - undo histories have been...welll...my undoing.
that said, my lay-ups are as big as i want them and i am only just feeling the squeeze. i would have said you would have to work really hard to get a new G5 to its limit. a quad is overkill unless you want to go down the massive library road (ie EQLSO which would still recommend that you networked FOUR computers even if they were the fastest).

  • Hardware for Mac Pro early 2008

    Hi there
We have very old Macs at our university. We will renew them next year, however we need to hook up our magnificent video monitors to Premiere Pro CC. There is only DVI and FireWire signal out, no thunderbolt. Inputs on the monitor are HD SDI and HDMI.
I´m sure there must be Hardware for this Mac Pro (2008) in order to connect to monitor digitally. I´m sure there were options when Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 was the current version back in 2008. Any ideas?
    Jon

I have already connected two monitors via a DVI “hub”. So they are up and running fine.
The hub don´t have any more outputs of any kind. Also I´m not sure if the quality would be good enough for the monitor output.
Now I also realised that there is no HDMI input on the monitor, only HD SDI.
Please look at photo here for info on my current graphics card.
    Best,
    Jon

  • I am thinking of using a Mac pro for share trading. Can anyone share their experience and suggest specs for 30 -40 monitors etc

    Hi
I am thinking of using a Mac Pro for share trading.
I am proposing to start small but want to be able to expand up to 30+ monitors.
    It must be super quick.
Any help with hardware would be appreciated.
Software is secondary at this point , but open to advice.
I have an iphone and ipad so feel it will better intergrate usung Apple
    regards
    David

There is no desktop machine that I know of that will support 30+ monitors as is.
Fill the 3 or 4 PCIe slots of any logic board with three port graphics cards and you have the physical cap without additional hardware.
Software is secondary at this point
No, without software, how can you control more than the monitor limit of the OS?
How can you set up the monitors to display the various programs that you will wish to use simultaneously?
    Software is a major consideration.
Matrox (and others) have solutions for additional monitors beyond the physical capabilities of generally offered graphics cards.
The caveat here, however, is support software is typically reserved for Windows and Linux systems.
Matrox has a single 8 display card:
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/graphics_cards/m_series/m9188pciex16/
Matrox has solutions specifically targeting the finance market:
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/solutions/trading_analyst/
Though the Mac Pro has more than adequate processing power, I think that you will find (through research) that building a solid machine capable of using several multi monitor cards is going to be what you will need to support more than 8-10 monitors with conventionally offered hardware.
    Fun stuff:

I've installed windows 7 with the help of bootcamp on my macbook pro 2011.
Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

You either download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant and save to USB FAT disk, or you insert and use 10.6.x OS X DVD when in Windows and install and run the SETUP from there.

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.  The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
    3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware  Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

  • Need help setting up Mac server for dental practice?

My dentist is running windows server 2003 and wants to do a total upgrade to Apple server components. The issue is that the software his office uses for patient records is not Mac compatible. He is really set on the Mac environment and is curious if he can run the software on a Mac running Windows and I guess my question is the same. I don't have the specifics on the software he needs to run but from what he says it is fairly low overhead and handles some large jpeg files but mostly small data files.
I am curios how difficult the task of migrating all the info into the Mac environment will be? He is also curious about remote access from home or wherever he needs to get to his info and am curious if a VPN or other method is best.
    Thanks

Ok, I am a sucker. I will bite.
The answer is yes. OS X and OS X Server can run Windows in a virtual machine using Parallels of VMWare (or virtual box, or Crossover, or... you get my point). This will allow you to run Mac hardware with Mac software but at the same time run Windows and the required applications.
But, there is a cost penalty here. First, there is the cost of the hardware. Not a big deal, Apple is competitive in price and the server hardware is very nice. Then there is the cost of Windows and the VM software. This is your tax. You have to add these costs on top of what you are already buying and then there is the hidden cost of the additional support. You are now supporting two operating systems, OS X and Windows. And just because Window is running on a Mac does not make it immune to viruses/spyware/trojans/etc.
If this guy really wants to go the Mac route, then go all Mac. Check out http://www.macpractice.com/mp/dds/ or http://www.macdentpro.com/index.php or do a search. There are a number of products that can handle dental practices on Macs, including the radiology aspect. Google is your friend.
As for remote access, OS X Server has a VPN built in that works well. That is not a problem. Or you can get a dedicated VPN appliance to handle security. Once bit of advice. Make sure you implement a good backup solution. Don't be foolish and think that TIme Machine alone is going to save you. This is medical records. Do not mess with them. Spend the dollars to properly harden the environment and ensure record retention policies are met.
    Hope this helps

  • New iMac 24" or Mac Pro for Aperure

    Hi All,
I only can get stock computers in COMPUSA or authorized resellers in PR.
Which one do you recommend for Aperture, the new iMac 24" or the Mac Pro? It looks they both use the same video card...

Sadly I have just asked Apple to take back my mac book pro 17" 2.16 because aperture was just to slow and it became annoying, after any adjustments to a photo the loupe tool would jump and jerk across the screen or the patch tool would do the same after around 3-4 patched dust marks, I came across to a mac purely for aperture, which incidently I think aperture is a great tool, if it would only run faster. If the MBP 17" 100gb 7200rpm HD 2 gb Ram and Radion X1600 with 256 mb memory has problems running this software what hardware setup was this programme actually built for.
I will have to stay with my steam driven dell pc until I can make my mind up what to do, I must admit I am impressed by the mac itself and I found the service from apple outstanding, this laptop is my second machine in 3 weeks, first one had a warped top apple took it back and sent another one immediately, having also explained my problem and dissatisfaction with the second they have taken it back with full refund without any hassle whatsoever.

  • Installing BootCamp Driver on a non mac computer for debugging purpose

Hello, is it possible to install BootCamp Driver on a non mac computer in order to debug a software that is very slow on a Windows XP/BootCamp with MacBook Pro (I can't use the Mac computer for a long time, then I must test on my computer : a PC, not a Mac) : is it possible ? I tried to install Bootcamp 2.1 on a Windows XP SP2 on a PC, but the software quit after a while without any message.
    Thanks for help, Patrice.

Hi Patrice and welcome to Discussions,
I admit I never in 20+ years tried to do what you try to accomplish but I would assume that a Windows driver would only install if the appropriate hardware device is present.
So, I don't think you can do this.

  • Should I get 2.0 quad or 2.7 dual mac mini for photography?

I am eyeing the new mac mini for my digital photography. I am a hobbiest, but shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II in raw, so dealing with pretty big raw files. I am currently using both lightroom (on a windows box) and aperture to handle photos. I am thinking I will use aperture on the new mini. I understand that aperture can be gpu intensive, but raw processing is cpu intensive. My question, get the 2.0 quad with integrated graphics, or 2.7 with discreet graphics. Other pluses with the quad are the dual 7200 hdd's, vs single 5400 on the 2.7. Any thoughts, let me know. Thanks.

I think Aperture takes advantage of hardware acceleration, so it will benefit from the discrete graphics on the 799 mini. LR does not. The quad core will benefit LR for sure. I found this an interesting read:

  • New Mac Pro for server

    Dear Apple's Hardware Development Team,
From Apple's Xserve replaced by Apple's Mac Pro Tower Case unit with interface extension on RAID Controller Card, Dual/Quard Ethernet Gigabit Lan Card & Dual/Quard Fibre Channel 4Gbit Card, as network server connect to local LAN with high performance connection and connect to SAN Storage by RAID connection or Fibre Channel connection directly or throughout the SAN Fibre Channel switch hub, etc....
Since 10 June 2013, new Mac Pro enounnced on WWDC 2013 in San Francsico, we saw a fantacy, amazing new Mac Pro in fall in later 2013.
We are concerning about the networ server and server administration maintain in new Mac Pro, how we can do it mounting it fixing into traditional server rack in our owned Data Center or outsourced Data Center service provider.
We knew two x Gigabit Ethernet; four x USB 3.0, six x Thunderbolt 2 be a extension ports be used for external SAN Storage and extended capacity.
Is it same as Apple's Xserve or Apple's old Mac Pro acceptable RAID or Fibre Channel connection in the Enterprise Companies private network too?
On the other side, we are concerning the new Mac Pro how to fufill mulitple power supply for redundancy to prevent the power supply failure, on network server standard requirements.
    IT Manager, Greater China
    Peter Tsang

Because of Xserve server is discontinuse so I have migrate it into several Mac Pro servers in Virtual Environment by VMWare vSphere ESXi to maintain more than ten OS X servers in virtualized.
In future or when the Mac Pro servers warranty expired we may considered to replace it by new Mac Pro server in this January/February 2013 on IT budget. Now, we need give up it and find other methods to maintain OS X server virtual environment in non-Apple or non-Mac hardware environment, but this is not accepatble by VMWare vSphere ESXi requirement.
The VMWare vShpere ESXi information center is not allowed or not supporting to install OS X server in non-Apple or non-Mac (for example, IBM server, DELL server or HP server, Cisco server etc...).
However I using Mac OS X and server but I using different band of SAN switch, SAN Storage (IBM and Cisco) in this virtual environment, this is working very well in many years.
No extension, No improvement, No supporting on Mac Pro server in the future in my company.
Why I do not consider the Mac Mini Server?
Because of the single CPU in Qual-core Intel Corei7 only, not in double CPUs 6-core Intel Xeon.
This is not enough CPU performance to maintain more then two or three vritual OS X server runing in one phyical server or failover in several server in disaster recovery.

How do I find the MAC address for my CP1525nw printer? It is not on the label, and the router reports only the name of the printer.

First, MAC filtering is not a security measure because it is so easily defeated.  Read more here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=43

  • Effect of a power "brown-out" on Mac hardware? PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
Please could someone help me to understand the effect of a power "brown-out" on Mac hardware?
    I have an iMac 27" (Late, 2013).
I would like to use a solar powered battery device with a 150 Watt External modified sine wave inverter. According to the Mac website, my model will use approx. 78W when idle, and 180W at CPU Max.
So, because I live in South Africa, where we now have load-shedding (planned black-outs depending on national energy grid pressure) I have invested in an EcoBoxx 160 DC + (http://www.ecoboxx.co.za/pages/products.php?app_id=4).
My question is thus: If I use my Mac with the device, and it happens to demand more than the 150W generated by the EcoBoxx, would this cause damage to any of its component parts?
I will only be using MS Word on my Mac under these conditions, so I imagine that if I close all other applications then the power demand of the Mac should not approach CPU max?
Also, if I ran it through a surge protector, would this make a difference?
I would be extremely grateful for any advice or suggestions, as I am desperately trying to complete my PhD dissertation, and cannot afford to continuously suffer the effects of load-shedding!
    Thanks and Warmest Greetings,
    Clinton

  • Install Mac Drivers for Boot Camp without right Leopard install disk

This is my first post so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am currently in Dubai for a week of work and was having a problem with my Windows OS. I removed the partition and reinstalled Windows XP with the Windows disk I brought with me. When I went to install the Mac drivers from the Leopard Install disk 10.5.0 that I had also brought with me, I noticed it was the Leopard disk that I bought last year to upgrade my prior MBP from Tiger and not the Leopard 10.5.2 disk that came with my current MBP that I bought last month. I tried it anyway and as it was loading it would always crash in the same place- as it was loading the Broadcom driver. It was the blue display of death. Is there anyway that I can find Mac Drivers for a MBP from a 10.5.2 disk and extract them without actually having the right install disk which is back at my home in Los Angeles? I really need help! Thanks and sorry for the long post.

You could use Disk Utility to "Restore" the installation DVD to a USB Flash Drive. Boot from it to do the work. Your optical drive could be having "issues", or the DVD could be hard to read for some reason. You should be able to hold down the Option key during boot to choose to boot from the flash drive.
If you can't do the work from your Mac because of a hardware problem then you could try a different machine to make the flash drive.
If a different machine can't make the flash drive, then the media is bad.

  • Upgrading my Mac Pro for gaming

Hi all, i am about to recieve my dads old Mac Pro. (he spent $11k on a new one so lucky me get's a freeby)
    It's a 2008 3,1 with 3.0ghz processor, 16 g of ram and the radeon graphics card.
I want to modernise this machine, and update it to make it the best gaming machine i can for as little cost as possible.
my hope is to get an ultimate gaming machine built for around $2k
Here are my thoughts after a little research, and in the order i intend to purchase:
The ddr2 ram can't be upgraded and 16gb is probably enough so i'll leave that.
The processor is decent so leave that.
The video card will be changed to a Nvidia GTX 780 modified by mac vid cards to allow boot up screen, $800
A OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express SSD 240GB card will be installed, $430
A CalDigit FASTA-6GU3 2 Port USB 3.0 & eSATA 6Gb/s Host Adapter will be installed for some 3.0 USB ports, $135
And finnaly mid next year i will buy a Dell 4K Ultra HD 27" screen for a reported >$1000
    Total: $2365.
windows will be on the accelsior hard drive with my favorite game "skyrim" moded to take advantage of all the graphics bling.
Does this seem the best option?
Are there more options availabe that i am over looking?
Have i made an error in the ammount of slots available to install the above upgrades?
And finnaly is there any way i can install a thunderport so i can use newer mac hardware?

Only that tests have shown that the 2008, while it does have two PCIe 2.0 16x lanes, does not do well with modern GPUs as later Mac Pro. You can find a 2010 or later from Apple Store Specials $2100, or 2009 model for $900 range.
