Miracast on Q10

Hi all,
I have a problem to connect to an Netgear PTV3000 by Miracast. After the installation and updating (the adapter) I can't see the adapter in the miracast-menu of the Q10.
The menu on the TV-screen ist ok, the devices are in same network...
Does anyone have suggestions or notes?
Need some help... ;-(
Thanks!

Hello,
I use the PTV3000 too and updated it today with 2.4.26.  I rebooted my Z30 and then I saw the PTV3000. My other problem is that I can not use the PTV3000 within my 5 Ghz wifi because I read the Netgear or BlackBerry had some touble with miracast and channels above 40 in this bandwith. Can someone here confirm that. Does a fix come with the next 10.2 update?

  • Miracast on BlackBerry Classic (10.3.1.1565) not working

    Hi guys,
got my new BlackBerry Classic (OS 10.3.1.1565) next to the older Q10 (10.2.1.3062) lying on the table next to each other and whereas on Q10 the Miracast connection with the home theater (Sony BDV-N5200W) works flawlessly, the Classic in unable to connect and share the screen (Settings -> Wi-Fi - Miracast -> Share Screen). On the Sony's part the screen mirroring feature is enabled and active. As said, Q10 connects almost immediately, Classic tries to connect only to fail at the end. Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,

  • Sprint says Q10 can not access internet/data in Chas/Hunt WV area

So I upgraded to a new Q10 and spent a few hours loading and configuing all my emails, etc.
Driving to work this morning, I noted that there was no emails received after I left my house (wifi-enabled).  Tried to open the Browser and received the error stating there was no connection to the internet.  Wasted most of the workday fiddling with the settings --- no joy.  So on the way home I stop at the Sprint store.  I walk in and showed the guy my phone and said, "I need some help with this."
He immediately said, "No internet or data?"  Dayum.  He went on to say that BB 3G/4G v10 won't work in this area and that BB was aware of the problem.  Something about Sprint sharing towers with Intelos and the phones won't recognize something.  Over my head, but all other smartphones work here...just the BB Q10 won't.
Really bites --- when I'm on WiFi the thing rocks and is everything I need in a smartphone.  So much better than my daughters iPhone 5...except for this.

Not sure if the same but
my brother is unable to get Data on his Sprint iphone unless its on LTE and most where he is is not LTE enabled.
It still makes calls and recieves calls but no data.

    Hello
I was checking for software updates for my Q10 yesterday and was informed that there is a new update
I clicked on download and install, and it asked me to reboot when it was done. After that it loaded very slowly until it reached 99% 6 hours later and it remained like that for 12 hours
What I did this morning was remove the battery and sim card and I reinserted the battery, the same thing happened again and it is moving very very slowly
Can you please help?? I would rather find away in which I do not loose my BBM contacts since I have not backed up my phone...are the contacts stored on my blackberry ID or will I loose them if I reset the phone?
    Thank you very much

It finally powered on after 3 battery pulls, but now it does not make or receive calls (((
Everytime I connect it to blackberry link it says software update available, so I clicked on install, it said downloading update and then nothing happens, the download bar becomes full then nothing changes
I also tried to reload device software, i got a message saying checking repair software and it stayed like that for 3 hours then the device rebooted but nothing happened at all
I even tried redoing the software update from the phone itself 3 times, everytime it would say update successful but the phone would still not make or receive calls
Please help I dont know what to do....could the problem with blackberry link be that im using it on a mac??
    I appreciate your help

  • Blackberry needs to sort out he brightness issue on the Q10 - Its very bad

Blackberry needs to release an update for its Q10 device ASAP.  The device has brightness issues since it was launched. In a response to a Forum member's complaint about the screen dimness, a support staff here said that's how the device is made with no auto-brightness toggle to conserve battery. I believe customers should be given the options to turn on or off this option as they wish. Please fix this problem BB

No he doesnt have a screen problem Jason. It is the Q10 that has a screen problem. Stop misleading people here. Blackberry needs to come up with a fix. The fact that they are not even responding to peoples' concerns on the Forum shows why they will continue to suffer pooor sales.
I am extremely disapointed at Blackberry!!

  • Q10 buggy stuff with text entry making me sad

I impulsively replaced my 9700 with a Q10 instead of the S4 i wanted, and now i regret it.  I am hoping these are just user errors as I want to love the Q10 and it's lovely keyboard.
    Two major issues:
    1. Autofill -- how the heck do you turn off text auto fill when typing text into the browser?? it offers me three autofill options of full sentences. So yeah, how many sentences do you think start with THE or I that I want to repeat??
    2. Word Substitution -- after going to great lengths to re-set up all my favourite word substitution short cuts, none of them work when typing text in the browser. They once worked  fine texting or in emails, but not browser text.  However, after a couple battery pulls, Word Substitution does not work in any text entry function.  Lovely.

  • Issues with 10.3.1.1779 on Q10

I just got this patch a few weeks back because my carrier is extremely slow I guess. I noticed mostly negative differences after this update, which usually isn't the case.
The UI itself is a lot clunkier and slower to navigate I find, and especially noticable when switching songs on the Music screen. Also there is a persistent issue with the Hub wherein I'm not able to interact with the Hub items until I navigate away from and then back to the Hub. It happens mostly when waking up the phone by swiping from the bottom, and the top screen is the Hub, although it does happen sometimes when I'm already using the phone and simply navigate to the Hub.
Not sure if these are specific to my phone or if other people are experiencing this on the Q10 as well. In case anyone wants to know the model is SQN100-5.

  • Issues with Exchange Account and Q10

Well, I hate to be writing this, but I'm hoping that there might be someone out there that can help get past some first day issues I am experiencing.
The background: I have a long history with legacy BlackBerry devices, and almost as much history with iOS devices. My most recent phone was an iPhone 4S, and I make extensive use of iCloud to keep my iMacs, iPhone, and iPad connected in real-time. The setup worked. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. However, because I used to have a BlackBerry device (most recent the 9930) and because I don't use the iPhone for more than e-mail, iMessage, and phone calls (generally speaking), I decided to give the newest BlackBerry device a shot. So I bought a Q10.
At this point I feel compelled to say that the hardware is everything I had hoped it to be. It's solid, has a good weight, and appears to be made very well. I have no complaints with the hardware, including the keyboard (a big selling factor for me), so I won't really get into the hardware as the issues I am experiencing all have to do with the OS. Let me also say that I am very familiar with the iCloud integration issues (missing Contact photos and disabled Calendar sync), so I'm not voicing a complaint over those issues in this thread.
I have connected my Exchange account. I used to have everything in Exchange before I moved my entire computing world over to Apple, and now I keep Exchange around for e-mail. Therefore, I have no contacts, no tasks, no notes, very limited calendar entries, and a massive amount of e-mail on the Exchange server. However, to test everything out, I have added a single contact record so I can see it show up on the phone and be able to test two-way sync between the Q10 and Exchange. And here is where the first issues crop up. It looks like Exchange connects and then disconnects at random. For example, if I open my Contacts on the phone, I see the one contact (called John Doe). Then, as the phone is sitting there with the screen on, the contact will disappear and I will see a "Start adding contact to your contact list" notice on the screen. Then, after a short period of time, the single contact will return. It is important to note that the entire time this is happening, the All Contacts option is selected in the list so that all available contacts are shown. Additionally, I have SIM card contacts turned off, but if I alter the selection in the view list (All Contacts, Favorites, etc.), the SIM contacts will re-appear when I return to the All Contacts view. At the same time, even though I have turned off SIM Contacts in the settings, the setting has reverted to show SIM Contacts. If I turn off the setting again, SIM Contacts still show up. Possibly related: I can't delete contacts on the SIM card, no matter how many times I try, and it now it seems that I can't get SIM Contacts to go away in the Contacts app.
Likewise, Exchange seems to connect and disconnect from Calendar. I go to the calendar and move day by day to June 15th. I see an entry that I know is from Exchange (I have no other connected calendars at this time), and it is in blue. I change the calendar color to green and the entry changes color, as expected. However, if I jump back to today and then scroll day by day to get to June 15th again, the calendar entry is missing. After a few seconds, the entry re-appears, but it is, once again, in blue. The setting has reverted itself, and it seems like Exchange is completely disconnecting and automatically reconnecting to the phone like I am setting it up again for the first time. Very odd. As I'm typing this, I just saw something odd. I swiped to wake up the phone, and the active frames screen was the visible screen. The calendar app is still running (since I left it running, minimized, when the phone went to sleep) and the date shown in the active card was Jan 1, not Jun 8. Why? The date (and time) on the phone is correct and is set automatically by the cellular system.
Nevertheless, looking at BlackBerry Hub, I see only two e-mails in my Inbox from Exchange, even though I have roughly a dozen in my Inbox. The rest are filed in sub-folders. And bam! Just like that... I get the "Add Accounts" screen while looking at the Hub. In other words, as I was typing this, I first saw two Exchange e-mails and then, out of nowhere, the e-mails disappear and I see the "Add Accounts" screen as if no account has been connected.
So... first question: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is very strange, and very frustrating. Second: could this be related to the large amount of e-mails I have stored on Exchange, some of which have large attachments? I selected "Forever" as the sync history length. I have my concerns, however, if this is related to loading historical e-mails onto the phone (in other words, the first sync with Exchange) because there is no reason that I can understand that the phone would blank out as if no account was connected at all. I can understand lag and stuttering while the history is syncing, but not a complete disconnect and reconnect. Considering all of the issues with the one and only contact record disappearing, the calendar entry for Jun 15th disappearing and then reappearing with the wrong calendar color, and e-mail in my Inbox incomplete (two of a dozen e-mails) and ultimately disappearing, I feel like this OS just has some real, significant issues.
Full disclosure: I do want iCloud to work and am a fan of Apple products, but the lack of full iCloud sync support is not a big enough issue for me to want to send back this phone and/or see it fail so miserably. I will happily move my info from iCloud into Exchange, Google, and/or set up a new Exchange account for personal use (Office 365) because I am not wedded to iCloud per se. But, I won't go through that trouble if I can't even get my first account to work properly. It should also be noted that I do have a basic Google account (non-paid) and I had previously attempted to connect to it. However, I was experiencing the exact same issues with contacts disappearing, e-mail disappearing, etc. So I deleted that account. Truth be told, I deleted the Exchange account as well, and then re-connected to Exchange only to test one account at a time. Unfortunately, even with Exchange only, I am seeing very strange and frustrating behavior as described above.
Help... please. I want this to work but the frustration I am feeling is growing worse by the hour.
    Model: SQN100-2

    To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

  • How can I forward an SMS as an email , i have doing this daily on 9900, surprised to miss this on Q10, i am ready to buy an 3rd party app also, if required, it is must for me.

    1. when i read an sms, there is option to forward as email in 9900.
Since i am using Q10, i can not do this.
    I need this immediately.
    Anybody can help??
I am ready to buy any 3rd party app also, if it can provide this without slowing down the performance.
    2. Further, i can not sms from contacts screen. There is no option to sms , when i select a contact. I have to go to SMS and there type contact name , how can i enable this?
    3. If i receive a call and i want to send sms to the person, i can not tap on called no and choose and option to sms him. I have to copy that number, go to SMS app and use that no to sms. If i am in a meeting , it is long process and kill focus in meeting. In android, there is one swipe to reject call and send an sms that i am in meeting. Can we achieve this basic features in Q10..

I can forward a SMS as an email on my Q10.
open the SMS and hold down on the text, this opens a side menu with the "share" icon on it (like a Y),
Then you can select how you want to share, eg SMS, Email BBM etc.
    Hope this helps?

  • Open letter to the chief designer/engineer of the Q10

    Premises:
    - I have never bothered to post anything on any forum in my whole life but today I could not hold it.
    - I have been using blackberry devices every 5 minutes for the last 6 years of my awake life.
    - I work in a bank and half of my 2000 contacts have a blackberry as a work phone.
This is the rudest I will get in this post and I hope you will publish it: "Chief engineer, what the hell passed through your mind when you decided to remove the trackpad from the new Q10?"
One step back. Let's go back few years.
Bold 9000 was the best handset I have ever had. The mechanical trackpad was razor sharp and accurate and fast. Yes maybe I had to replace it once every 18 months but who cares, and how much can it cost you guys anyway a little ball of plastic? At that time I used to challenge any iPhone user to see who could type faster. I always won. If I still had it I could still win. It doesn't matter that I type with 2 fingers on my PC keyboard and that I have a permanent RSI on my right arm. I was lightning fast. Sometimes I can type even without looking at the BlackBerry keyboard.
Then you decided to make the keyboard smaller or remove it all together to feel like an iPhone. Not a great choice. Keyboard (together with the trackpad and instant emails) is all you had. And believe me that was more than enough. I feel crippled when using the Bold 9700 and I do not have giant hands. The software has been designed to maximize the number of clicks to do anything. Why should I waste a click to open the tray when 3/4 of the screen is empty?!? I endured 18 months of my contract waiting for the latest bold.
At some point you realized that the keyboard was important and you made it bigger again. Fantastic! Your realized that most business people do like the physical keyboard and they use their phone for writing and reading. Many of them. Very often. And they have to be quick.
But then today I go to try the new BB Bold Q10 and I realized that you have removed the trackpad. So instead of moving any of my thumbs 2mm higher to click and scroll now my fingers have to travel a much longer distance to do the same in a more awkward and wasteful way. Things keep getting less accurate. Mechanical trackpad, then the worse optical one, now what?
I went on Ebay. Some new old BB Bold 9000 are still for sale at 70 GBP. I will buy a couple today. This will keep me running for 2-3 years. By then I hope that you will have either lost your job because your company went bust or repented and produced what business people really want.
I hope not too many other people will be bidding with me today.
    E.S.

I was on BOLD 9900 before, I loved it, but moved on to Z10, and now got the Q10. Honestly - the most superb phone in the world ! Don't need the trackpad

  • BBZ10 and Q10 key Features.

Here are some key features of Blackberry Z10 and Q10:
    1) The Z10 which has a 4.2-inch screen(1,280 x 768 display), will be sold at an unsubsidized price of $599, but can be obtained through some carriers for $149 with a three-year contract. Pricing for the Q10, the keyboard-equipped sibling, was not made available.
    2) At 130 millimeters (5.1 inches) in length and weighing 137 grams (4.8 ounces), Z10 is slightly longer and heavier than the iPhone 5. On the other hand, Blackberry Q10 has a squarish screen measuring 3.1 inches (7.8 centimeters) diagonally.
    3) The smartphones are being offered with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 dual-core CPU with 2GB of RAM.
    4) The BlackBerry smartphones have 16 gigabytes of storage, plus a memory-card slot for expansion. However, the phones don't support cards larger than 32GB.
    5) On the back is a 8-megapixel camera which is capable of taking videos of 1080p. The camera is located on the top-left corner of the back and paired with a LED flash. The front has a 2-megapixel camera which is capable of recording videos of 720p.
    6) It has Multilanguage support, and users can flick words with one thumb. Also improved are the picture editor, and a multitude of other features that positions the device both as a consumer device and an enterprise device simultaneously.
    7) The glass is designed exclusively for Z10, it is supposedly thinner but stronger than plastic.
    8) The device aggregates information intuitively; it recognises and pulls up all the connections into the contacts, like the last email, last meeting, last Twitter post.
    9) The battery life is estimated at 10 hours talking time and 13 days on standby. Another feature is a mini-HDMI port to allow connections to a television or projector.
    10) Apps like Facebook have been completely integrated with the BlackBerry 10 hub. All emails and notifications from such applications as Twitter and Facebook go to the BlackBerry Hub, a nerve center accessible with a finger swipe even if you have another application open. One can peek into it and open an email, or return to the previous application without opening the email. The company said that more than 70,000 apps are available for users in the BlackBerry World.

Thanks for your answer to my desperate plea... I actually discovered this 'Expert' feature by following a Youtube how-to video  later that evening. So, still appreciate that you care enough to reply. I'm just learning this software application and will continue watching the many videos from the Youtube source. Do you by any chance know what 'validation' provides as an advantage? Thanks again.Dave

  • Q10 - problem with SKYPE after upgrading to 10.3.1

    Hello !
After i made the upgrade on my Q10 at 10.3.1 OS, the SKYPE doesn't work.
It give me the following message : "Unfortunally proces com.android.systemapps has been stopped"
Why don't you make SKYPE for BlackBerry OS and this version that is on BlackBerry World is made for Android ???

That's what I hate about modern technology, sometimes it doesn't work and there's no apparent cause. If you have access to the google app you could try deleting Skype from there so no traces remain, reboot and start afresh. I haven't had experience of exactly the same problem so it's by no means a sure fix I'm sorry to say!

  • Evaluating a Q10... 12 days left to decide if I want to keep it...

    Hello,
I am on day two of evaluating a Q10 (AT&T) and I have 12 days to decide if I want to keep it.  I'm on the fence.  I loved my 8330 Curve back in the day but as of today there isn't a mobile device I am found of.  I've been begrudingly using the Galaxy S3 for the last two years.
This post is going to seem negative since I'm trying to find a way to deal with several issues and options I expected to have on the Q10.  I have little time to search and read although I plan on doing as much of that as I can.  What I'm looking for here are workarounds, planned changes or the best threads discussing an issue.
Before I get into the issues, I'll start with the postive.  The size is right.  The S3 is uncomfortable to me and easily slips without a case.  A few benchmark times:
    Place call to saved contact:
      Q10: 5 seconds
S3: 13.5 seconds (using Dialer One)
Lookup contact in Outlook Global Address List (ActiveSync):
      Q10: 12 seconds  - and it's simple to save as a contact
S3: 40 seconds - (using Touchdown) - this is just to lookup, good luck saving as a contact... I usually end up looking up multiple times
Taking a photo of a cat and accidently emailing it to your boss through Outlook Exchange Activesync:
      Q10: 15 seconds
S3: 45 seconds (using Touchdown - did not send to boss in this case)
That last benchmark brings me to my first issue:
    1. The Q10 have an option to deactivate the "predictive" email addresses that show up when composing a new email.  If I send a thousand emails to a few "junk" email accounts, will the predictions change?  How long until they change back?  It is simply a count of the number of emails sent?  If so, I can work around this.
    2. The Q10 Should have cursor movemenet/text selection keys.  I forgive RIM when I have trouble selecting a textbox or button on screen — I know they're new at touchscreens.  However, text selection on the Curve outperformed any iOS or Android device that I've used.  If the programmers at RIM don't understand what needs to be done then RIM need to hire someone who has worked extensively in text environments.  I don't care if I have to push some strange combination of asdw for left/down/right/up with alt, z, shift or other keys held for word/sentence jumping and selecting.  The "white circle" is simply unusable for rapid text manipulation.
    3. The Q10 should have an option to never mark email as read on server (leave unread on server).  Similar to the "do not delete on server" option, that many are complainig about.  I'm amazed at how few settings the phone offers, especially in email.  I still find myself looking for an "advanced settings" button that perhaps I haven't found yet.  I thought it was Apple that simplified devices to the point that settings don't even exist...
    4. The Q10 should allow for selectable snooze times.  This is one area where I've been spoiled by the very useful Andoid app "Calendar Snooze."  Even before purchasing the Q10 I realized that I might need to carry around a wifi enabled Android device just to have the extensive appointment/reminder functionality that I've come to depend on.
    5. There should be a method to activate the Q10 with the spacebar.  Lock screens have become popular to prevent inadvertent screen taps but key presses are much more difficult to do by mistake, especially with holsters.  The whole "swipe up" is horrible in my opinion - I need to do it two or three times in some cases.  Pressing the button on the top is just awkward.  This is one of my biggest complaints, along with #6.
    6. The Q10 should have the ability to launch apps from the "home screen" or when off.  I'd prefer when off.  If not, then home screen should be something I can jump to anytime the phone is turned on.  Again, more options.  To be as usable as the Curve was, this phone needs to have a quick way to power on (space bar or any key), an option to turn off the "swipe up to unlock" and support for loading apps like memopad, calendar, contacts, email with the press of one character on the keyboard.  This is the main reason I wanted a keyboard again!  Since apps like memopad have been removed, the keys should be programmable to allow for launching of third party apps.
This list of issues makes the Curve's "need to dial 911 and hang up when the battery is low to make a call" problem seem insignificant.  However, I'm hoping that there are some work-arounds that others have figured out.
I may have more than 12 days to evaluate since I have a "creaky/sticky" space bar which neccesitates a replacement phone.  Either way, two weeks is not long and if I had to decide today I would be sending the phone back and probably just sticking with the S3 until something that is worth the cardboard box it's shipped in becomes available.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hello,
I am on day two of evaluating a Q10 (AT&T) and I have 12 days to decide if I want to keep it.
These addresses cannot be turned off or deleted.  They should go away after you email someone else regularly but it does seem to take a while.  I haven't figured out the exact time it takes.  You get used to ignoring them after a while until all of a sudden something usable pops up.  My wife's email address is finally in mine now.
Cursor movement/placement:  Touch the cursor where you want it.  If you are off by one letter just tap it again and a circle will appear.  You can then tap any side of the circle to  move the circle/cursor one space in that direction.  You can go up/down/right/left, etc.  To select text simply touch and hold where you'd like to select.  It will select the word first.  Continue holding and it will select the sentence.  Continue holding and it will select the paragraph, and finally the entire document.  You can also move the dots on either end of the selection to move it manually.
With the latest OS update (not yet released by ATT but see below for more info on upgrading anyway) you can choose to delete on handheld only, server and handheld, or prompt each time.  Reads are sync'd and can't be controlled but I don't know of any device that uses the same email protocols (iOS, Android, etc.) where the reads syncs can be turned off.
There is no adjustment for this.  There was a secret way to do this on the old BB devices that I didn't learn until after I went to BB10.  It would be nice to have that option for calendar notifications.
There is no option to wake with the space bar.  The only option given for anything like this is the ability to turn off swipe to wake.  If you turn that off then swiping up does not wake the device and you have to press the lock button on the top.  Not really what you're looking for.  Having used the device for over a year now I don't even think about the swipe to wake and I love it.  There is no "home" button to fail like so many iOS users complain about.  The button either fails or gets very sticky.  I find myself swiping up to wake my iPad sometimes it's so natural now.
Not quite sure what you're asking here.  Launch apps when device is off??  This may help, though.  On the home screen and any icon screen you will see a row of small dots, four tiny squares, and a small envelope icon.  The envelope icon is the hub, the four dots are the active frames page, and the small dots are your screens of app icons.  You can touch any of those small icons and jump directly to that page.  You can swipe left and right across those and move to any of those pages, as well.  You can find info about the available keyboard shortcuts here:  http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/61550/shortcutList.jsp
This list of issues makes the Curve's "need to dial 911 and hang up when the battery is low to make a call" problem seem insignificant.  However, I'm hoping that there are some work-arounds that others have figured out.

Dave, I've answered your issues in the quote above.  I don't usually do it that way but it seemed easiest in this case.
Most of what you post about have workarounds and is actually possible in most cases.  I mentioned the OS 10.2.1update above which ATT has not yet released.  There are many new features included in 10.2.1 that make the device much more feature-packed.  I recommend updating the device to the newer OS, even though ATT doesn't yet support it.  It will give you a much better "test drive" of the device.  Here is a link on how to do it.  Just follow the instructions exactly and it's really easy:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-BB10-OS-Using-Sach...
Once updated you can install almost any Android app using the BB10 app called Snap.  I included a link on how to install that in the post with the OS update instructions.  Again, I HIGHLY recommend installing the update.  It doesn't void ATT's warranty, however, their support line personnel can't support it because it's not officially released by them.  The official released OS can easily be re-installed should the need arise.  If you return the device they likely won't even know you updated it anyway.
All that said, since you're using the S3 I really recommend the Z10 over the Q10.  I have both (as well as a Z30) and absolutely LOVE the Z10/Z30 devices.  I was on a 9810 before the Z10 and wasn't sure I'd like the virtual keyboard but that keyboard is far better than any other touch device keyboard on the market.  It blows away the S3 keyboard and my iPad keyboard.  I am much faster on the virtual keyboard than I ever was on the 9810 virtual keyboard.  It is like magic how it knows what I wanted to type instead of what I really typed.  I have the bad habit of entering the letter b instead of the space key and I can type a whole sentence like that and it will change it automatically.  Can't do that with a physical keybaord.  Additionally, the bigger screen on the Z10/Z30 makes everything better.
    Hope all this helps.
    John

  • Meetings created on Q10 do not sync to Outlook 2013 calendar

Am using a Shaw email account on Outlook 2013. Just got the Q10 and cannot seem to sync. It syncs from Outlook to the phone but not from the phone to Outlook.
    BB Link ver 1.2.0.28
    Office Professional 2013
BB Link does not throw and error messages and shows up as successful sync.
Is it possible that the phone is not able to write to the Outlook pst file. But I would have imagined that it would throw an error message is what is confusing me.
Has anyone else had this issue or something similar?
There is an update for the phone but I did not apply it. I didn't want to mess it up further.
The user was using a BB torch before and we moved him to the q10. He was having somewhat of a similar issue just that he would get meeting reminders but Outlook would not display them in the calendar. Now the q10 will not even send any of the calendar appointments to Outlook.
Thanks for the help. If anyone can offer any suggestions

    LarryMcJ -
I read your first post and checked all the items you pointed out. I was already set up in the way you described but alas my problem remained. I appreciated the suggestions and checked them carefully but it had no effect on my problem.
I found it interesting that I could change an item on the BB (no matter where it was created) and the change would propagate over to iCal but a new item created on the BB would not come over. I also tried using the click box to overwrite the BB from iCal but items created on my BB were completely unaffected by the sync.
I had no calendars tied to the BB email addy. I did find that my calendars were somehow linked to various (random?) email addresses (I use 5). Things have started working better since I changed all the calendars to tie to one email addy. I was able to get Google sync to work without a hitch after about an hour of playing with it and there have been no problems since. Maybe RIM should try to hire some Google developers away ;-)
Anyway -  the headache and frustration were just not worth it. There may be a way to get my setup to work with DTM but, honestly, I don't have the time, patience or the hair left to pull out. I am no longer trying to find a solution - I have moved on.

  • BB Q10 - VERY dangerous

    Hi Support and community.
I really tried my best getting hold of an E-Mail address so I could mail BB direct, but it seems the forum is the only place I could post my concerns.
First a bit of history wrt my concerns: I used to be a Nokia user for 10+ years when I finally switched to BB as it was the logical replacement for my needs. I've been using BB for I guess about 6 years now and I have probably been the biggest prophet for BB in the circles I move in. My previous phones was the last BB Bold which was really an awesome phone (except for quite a few shortcuts that was taken away from older software versions).
So then I was due for upgrade and did a lot of research. One of the biggest reasons I went the BB route, was due to the navigation of the device being done via physical buttons, meaning you don't have to use both hands and watch the screen all the time. So I was looking at Android, iPhone (and very briefly a Microsoft yuck), but decided to stay with BB since it at least had some buttons, the other phones were all touch-only.
So now I'm using a BB Q10 and I'm forced to keep watching the screen for anything I do, NO navigation can be done with physical buttons. The voice commands/dialing is absolutely useless (it understands one or two names in my phone book, but none of my family or colleages, and you can't even record custom voice prompts like even the very old Nokia's could do).
With my previous BB's I could be on the phone all day long without having to take my eyes off the road (don't worry, I'm using a Bluetooth car kit and headset). With the new Q10 I HAVE to watch the screen, which is really extremely dangerous when driving (and I drive a lot and I'm always in a hurry, making this phone worse).
The one time, a few weeks after I got the Q10, I had to find a client's contact number off their website. So I browsed to their company website (the Internet on the Q10 is SUPER fast, really impressed with that), got the number, tried copying it..... I had to PULL OVER just to be able to copy the stupid phone number. It was one of the MOST FRUSTRATING events I ever had on a phone. Ok, finally copied the number, switched to the phone app (should the phone app just be "the phone" and the other stuff on the phone be apps?), and tried to paste the copied number there. To my frustration (to the point where I wanted to drive over the phone, spit on it, jump on it and drive over it over and over again), when I tapped past, it pasted something COMPLETELY different. I soon discovered that the different app's clipboards are not linked. How useless was that trip. So I had to keep switching between the website and phone app just to dial a stupid number. The most frustrating part of this is that you can't do this sort of thing while driving, you have to pull over (PULL OVER??? IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE? Even a old Nokia E63 could do this task properly).
So my next problem, I tried importing my contacts. I don't have that many contacts, only about 2000. I ended up with 7000 contacts after the Q10 decided it was a good idea to match my Facebook contacts, Skype contacts etc and made hundres of duplicates. I tried all different ways to resolve this, but ended up paying a youngster to retype my address book and do it propperly. This is probably not so much OS10's fault, but the next part certainly is. With all my previous BB's, I could simply type a contact's name in the home screen and it would give me a decent list to choose from (yes, using the good old faithful scrolly wheelie thingy which WORKED!). I could even type eg bbm to open BBM. I could press the green button to view my call history, choose a number, click the BB button, choose send a SMS and voila, I can text someone even if the contact has not been added. With the Q10 you first have to add the number to a profile, o wait, that person doesn't exist yet, another stupid window we have to open after clicking 7 times on the + (when the stupid touch screen doesn't realise I tapped it). Then you have to go back back back (or what I do lately is just close the stupid phone app, reopen and start all over).
With my previous BB's, I programmed some of the keys to dial certain people. I was a bit frustrated that I couldn't use Q to call Quintin (Q switches the phone to silent), but I just used another key. That was very usefull to call my frequent people (employees, friends, VIP clients etc). With the Q10 that isn't even possible anymore, so you are forced to use the dumb phonebook and tap here, type there, tap tap tap tap I'm going off my tapping mind with all the tapping. TAP TAP TAP!!!
Ok, so I finally manage to make that call I've been trying to make for the past hour of frustration. Done talking with my VIP client, about to press the RED button to end the call when my friend next to me start talking about a stupid client he just had to help. Now keep in mind, the Q10 doesn't have navigation buttons, so I have to wait for the screen to come on again, find the red END icon, tap it 7-9 times. During all this time the poor VIP client can hear everything my friend or colleage is telling me about someone else. HOW DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES ME SOUND TO MY CLIENT?? If there was a REAL BUTTON (you know, like those that society was happy with since the start of mobile phones, those which never gave these hassles, those that never moved around on the screen, those ones you know?!) I could simply press it and presto.
Ok, so now I'm running late due to all the time wasted with the silly Q10 navigation, so I want to send my wife a BBM to say I'm going to be late. Now I haven't BBM'd her the entire day, so it would take too long going through the BB Hub to find our last converstation. On my old BB Bold I would simply type BBM, press the OK button, scroll the wheely thingy down one or two places to my wife, click OK and start typing my message, all with one hand, all with only a split second looking at the screen. Do you wish to know what pain I have to endure to do the same on the Q10? No? Well, here goes anyway. Ok, now I type BBM on the home screen. WHAT???? I didn't type "Microsoftbbm"?? WHAT??? Oooooooo, my last search is still in the search program, and the BB didn't start a new search (as is logical and to be expected), no no no noooo, BB thought, hey, why not add this entirely new search to the search we did 2 weeks ago when I had to pull over to try and copy and past a number? Clever... WRONG, DUMB!! It is 100% illogical. That off my chest, so now I have to TAKE MY HAND OFF THE KEYBOARD (ever heard of such a thing??) to click a little X next to the search text in order to clear the text (oh, you also can't use the backspace, you first have to click on that box in any case before the backspace works). So now I stretched my entire hand all the way to the top, clicked the x 5 or 6 times (stupid touch screen never registers the first time), so now I can type BBM. Yeaaaay, BBM opens, but wait, I don't want to continue my completed chat to "THOM", I expect to see my contacts with last contacts at the top. Ok, back back back, clear, tap tap click bumb phone against steering wheel, tap tap tap, ok type in my wife's name, oh sorry, that doesn't work, ok, scroll down through 200 BBM contacts, ok, got her, ok tap tap tap, type my message, look at the screen, NOOOOOOOO!! Nothing I typed appears on the screen.. WHAAAATTT??? Oh, you first have to click the text box (BB, can you think of ANY other logical place I would have wanted to type other than the text box? Is the developer who wrote that bit of code a completely antisocial dummy, or did he just have a bad day?) Ok, now I can finally retype my message, but since the frustration killed the nice friendly messages I wrote my wife (with same good rhymes in there) and I forgot the exact wording, I have to retype and stand a chance not to score, due to my message coming across as being a bit upset. BB Q10 is messing with my sex life too. Shame on you (apparently developers don't have a sex life, if its true, perhaps this is why...)
Ok, so now I'm driving my other car with no bluetooth, so I take my headset with me. I make a few calls, pull out the earpieces and put them on passenger seat (obviously the seat to the left of me since our steering wheels are on the RIGHT (as in correct) hand side of the vehicle). Dadidadadad hmmm, strange, haven't had an email or bbm or sms in the last 30mins, wow, things must be going smooth. Oohhh shikes, the notification sounds don't come through the speaker when the headset is plugged in. I must have forgotten that developers think all people always have earpieces in their ears (the stereotypical nerd picture) and don't need the notification sounds over the speaker. Really BB developers, do you think it is fair to think all people are nerds? I now have 30 times the amount of messages and mail to respond to, server notifications, oh **bleep**, VIP's server has an issue. So I'm once again forced to pull over, loose a few more minutes of my life, but what the heck, perhaps I needed the rest.. REST?? That frustrating "REST" waste of time pushed my heart rate and stress levels up so much I would probably have to retire 10 years sooner due to heart issues thanks to badly developed phone software. I tried real hard thinking of a reason why they would have done it like this. The ONLY viable idea I could come up with is that your BBM alerts wouldn't disturb your room mates when you chat with your "hot" girlfriend on BBM (you know, the one you have never met and you both told each other how hot you are but in fact.... ok, I shouldn't be stereotypical too).
So to come back to my biggest frustration, the whole navigation issue. It would appear that all modern mobile phones are geared towards 16 year olds, hence the whole "coolness factor" (especially with Android). To the serious business person (the people who are actually the important ones, the ones who has to pay for the 16yo's "cool" phone) doesn't seem to have a say. Instead governments make laws that you shouldn't use your phone while driving. Well face it Mr Government, people are and will always be using their phones, by making phones more difficult to operate you are actually increasing accident risk. Using your phone doesn't cause the accident, but doing so irresponsibly (for instance using both hands and both eyes to copy a phone number from a website and pasting it in the phone app whilst using a stupid phone that can't do it well) is what causes accidents. I think (but may be wrong) its more dangerous putting on make-up in the rear-view mirror than using your phone, and there's no laws against that (at least in my country).
So my conclusion: I blew off some steam here, please forgive me for that, but at the same time I tried keeping my post humorous (maybe everyone wouldn't find the humour) whilst bringing forth my real frustration.
I also have to add that BB really did well with regards to the "coolness factor", built quality, browsing spead, compatibility etc. But I believe, by removing the physical navigation buttons from the phone, BB made the exact same mistake Microsoft made when they removed the start button in Windows 8. (Apparently the guy who was the fire behind removing the start button was fired 2 weeks after Windows 8 was launched. Can't verify that, but I would have fired him!). Now people may tell me that I need to move "forward" with technology. STOP! This is exactly where those people are so very wrong. Think about it logically (if you haven't lost your logical ability due to these "modern forward thinking technologies), with an old Nokia 3310 you could have a phone conversation using your one hand (or actually by simply holding the phone in your neck whilst tilting your head), have a smoke in your other hand (not that smoking is good for you, just using a typical example), operate your car's gearlever with one hand, steering wheel with the first hand (which also happens to hold the smoke), be able to look at the rearview mirror, and probably do much more, where with today's "modern technology" you need both your hands and eyes and full concentration to do only one of the things I mentioned before. What did you say, I must go back to using a Nokia 3310? True, I get your point and you are probably right, but I'm not the only person feeling this way and for the more serious person out there, there really should be a device that caters for that need. Up to the last BB Bold BlackBerry did cater for that sector (I wouldn't call it a niche market as it is much more than just a niche).
So now I'm still left with the frustration, luckilly my contract is due for upgrade in Feb, so now I have these choices:
    1) new BB (if BB brings back the physical navigation)
    2) Android (NEVER, I'm well over 16 years old)
    3) iPhone (hmm, if your only choices are touch-navigation, you might as well gor for the phone with the BEST touch-navigation system out there, so iPhone is currently my first choice, also the voice navigation actually works and it does understand all the names I have tried on it before. Only down side, no keyboard, no RIM, no BB, crappy BBM app, but hey, the usability is way better than compared to BB Q10 for my needs).
    4) Nokia 3310 (Not a chance, I do need at least some modern technology. Hmm, Nokia 3310 as phone and iPad or BB Q10 as email/browser etc.... this could work)
    5) Go back to my previous BB Bold (Hmm, this is really not a bad choice)
So, what do you guys say? And RIM, would you please look into my comments, perhaps do a survey to find out how many people have the same complaints and please consider bringing the navigation back, that always used to be the biggest drawing point for me.
    Thanks for everyone who listened
    G

Hmm, for some reason I missed the fact that there are many other forum posts which focus more on my individual complaints. Pardon me for not posting there instead, I really didn't see it till after posting this new thread. But, my new thread covers a broader perspective so maybe it does some good
