Mirco Photo Question/Sugest

Would it ever be possible for the zen mirco photo to have support for .gif pictures? and if ever it has support for gif picture then wouldnt it be able to implement something like google video player since its flash video? would it make sense to start a petiton about it's

Everything as described is normal. The built-in included iPhone wallpapers are not included with the Photo widget or application.
There is always a camera roll which is used to store photos taken by the iPhone only.
"Photo Library" will always remain and is where all photos transferred from your computer are stored with the various folders available below.
You can have a Scans folder with 20 photos and another folder named Friends with 20 photos.
Photo Library contains all photos available in each and all folders - in this example 40 photos. You can view all 40 photos stored on the iPhone by selecting Photo Library or the photos available in a specific folder only by selecting the folder.

  • HT4236 Many Storage & Syncing Photos Questions for a Genius

I am using Windows Live Photo gallery to import pictures taken on my iphone to the My Pictures folder on Windows 7 and choose the option to delete these images from the device during transfer.
At the same time, I have iTunes configured to automatically synchronize the My Pictures folder onto the iPhone.
I'm a bit confused and concerned if I'm messing this up both by opting to "delete images from device" during photo import and at the same time "synchronize".
Is it smart enough to know what photos are new and have never been transferred vs. photos that are sourced from the PC and synced?
Can someone please comment on this?
When syncing photos to the iPhone, is there downscaling of the image happening so that it is lower resolution on the iPhone than the source image on the PC?
Further, what happens when you exceed the storage capacity on your iOS from syncing so many photos?
I'm not there yet, but will be soon. Will it start to drop the "oldest" pictures first?
Where is the option to specify a threshold for how much storage on the iOS device should be dedicated to photos vs. music? I don't want all these pictures eating into space I could use for music.
    So many questions!

Well for the first part of your question "Itunes says 6.96 GB ipod says Used: 7.26GB" thats where you have a playlist or something selected in iTUnes.
If you have a playlist highlighted in iTUnes, it shows the size of everything in the playlist, not the main library. Then when you connect the ipod, the ipod part shows the total size used on the ipod, in other words the whole size of the library.
FOr the fragment part of your question, NO do not fragment it with windows. It doesn't matter how fragmented the harddrive on the ipod is because its accessing only music. You use the ipod updater to restore an ipod, which basicly formats and defrags a ipod http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

  • Another Photo Question... May be useful to travellers!!!

Ok, so I have worked out a way to use several computers to update my photos! All I do is store the original files on my iPod using it as a hard drive, then sync them to my iPod using iTunes (obviously not storing the full resolution images by unticking the box). Thing is, it takes bloody ages to optimise the 800+ photos I have so far, and that number ain't going to get smaller...
So, the question is, can you get iTunes to recognise the fact that an iPod already has certain photo albums on it, and thus only update the new ones so it only needs to optimise a few?
Ta very much to anybody that replies, even if it's the news i think i'm going to get...

iChat 4 can Record Video chats and they are put in iTunes

  • Aperture 3 (or plug-in?) and Time Lapse Photo Question

I have tried to find the answer to this with my google-fu and have had no luck as of yet ... so here goes my question to you mac gurus:
I am planning on shaving my head/face and then growing my beard and hair untrimmed for several years and doing daily photos to create a time lapse series that can also be added to a slideshow etc. My problem is I want the eyes in the daily photos to line up perfectly for the final resulting slideshow/video. Other this doing this manually hundreds of times I am hoping I can use my mac to help. I have aperture 3 (which I love - great program!). My google searches only come back with cs5 AfterEffects method of doing this. I really do not wish to throw $600+ for this functionality if I can help it.
Is there a way to do this in Aperture 3? Or Aperture 3 plug-in?
See youtube link that I found as an example of what I am wanting to do (except on a much, much longer timeline): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbKKsx2xC64
    Thanks!

If you want to stick to Aperture for this work, you'll have to do it manually. (Aperture is for photo's not for movies and time-lapse is a movie type)

  • Yet another photo question -- better to stream or sync?

I plan to purchase an ATV this weekend and need help choosing between the 40 and 160 models. Though I've read dozens of posts, I'm still confused whether streaming or syncing photos will work best for me. My understanding is that I will only need the 40GB if I stream (ignoring other HD uses).
My photo setup: I currently have about 10,000 pix stored on a NAS drive and add to them weekly. My itunes runs on a PC (sorry) and I manage photos with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.(I do not have Photoshop Elements). Network is hardwire 100MB.
    My goals:
    1. To view my pix on ATV with the least additional workflow relative to my current habit of downloading and managing images in Lightroom (i.e. need to transfer or rename files to view them in ATV, etc.)
    2. To have the best possible viewing performance (i.e. no lag, easy to find pix, etc.)
    3. Spend as little as possible (i.e. no new software, 40HDD)
How does streaming compare to syncing given my needs?
    What size drive?
Thanks in advance for the help. Sorry if the answer is obvious.
    Ken

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
In most cases setting up your itunes as a syncing or primary library is a better option, it gives you much more functionality. What you should remember is that even in the role as a primary library you do not need to sync all your content as you have the option with a primary library of syncing or streaming your content.
This doesn't apply to photos though, so if you set itunes up as a primary library you must sync your photos, if you set it up as a secondary library you can only stream them.
Question to ask yourself is how many of the photos will you want on the tv, I have about 14,000 photos but only have about 4,500 on the tv. Many of my photos were taken on digital cameras as far back as 1995 when photo file size was quite small hence I have about 4 GB of photos on the tv.
I sync very little else and 4 of my 5 tv's are 40 GB and the other tv doesn't really have anything different on. You do use a little space for temporary storage of purchases and rentals you make via the tv, but I rarely ever have more than 10 GB of such content at any one time.

  • I photo Questions

    I have version 8.1.2 of iPhoto 09.
I am now scanning old slides and negatives into iPhoto using Ion's scanner.  I now discover that some photos may be reversed and it is tough to figure out before loading the jpgs into iPhoto.  Is there a way to reverse these horizontally using iPhoto?
Secondly, what happens to the deleted phtots once I click on "delete" while looking at a specific photo?  I click on iPhtot's trash but it is empty.  I do not want to clog up my hard drive with unwanted photos just becuase I cannot find them.
Thir question pertains to a folder in my albums called "Recovered Photos".  It has about 50 photos that exist (or at least some form of them) in their specific albums above.  Is it safe to select all and trash them?  As with the above paragraph, where do they go as I want them gone to save space.
Thank you for your help to any who will advise me.  Any additional tips would be appreciated as this is going to be a LONG process with pictures dating back to 1965.

iPhoto does not have a "flip" operation, but the Preview.app has; use Preview to flip your photos horizontally before you import them to iPhoto. The command is in the "Tools" menu in Preview:
    Tools > Flip horizontally.
If you already imported the photos, set Preview up as an external editor in iPhoto (in the Prefrences > Advanced panel: Edit photos in ... set this to "Preview").
How are you deleting? If you are browsing the photos in their events, use "Photos > Move to Trash ⌘⌫"
Emptying iPhoto's trash will mov ethe Photos to the System Trash.

That is really for you to decide. The "Recovered Photos" contains image files, that have been found in the iPhoto library and are not referenced by any photo version. If you are sure, all of them have high quality, editable counterparts in your library, you can trash them. Delete them with ⌘⌫.

  • Some general photo questions

I will be undertaking a major project soon that involves scanning all (and I mean every single one) of my family's photographs so that we have digital copies in case something bad happens to the originals. I plan on using iPhoto to store and catalog the photos. But my question is, when I scan the photos, what file format should I use? My scanner (HP Scanjet 3970) can scan to jpeg, tiff, tiff (compressed), bmp, and gif. which of those should I use? Also, I read somewhere that tiff for macs are different from tiff in windows. Is this true?
Also, what resolution is optimal for keeping an archive of photos? File size is not really an issue since I'll be using an external hard drive that's plenty big.

iPhoto will handle any of those formats. My suggestion for maximum compatibility is to choose between tiff (uncompressed) and jpeg. Why? they're pretty universal, regardless of computer. As to choosing between them? Well jpeg is a lossy compressed format, tiff isn't. The files sizes are huge with tiff, quite acceptable with jpeg. How much editing will you do? IF not much, then there is little re-saving and jpeg will be absolutely fine.

    Not that I know of.
Also, what resolution is optimal for keeping an archive of photos
The general rule of thumb is 300 dpi is what's required for printing. Screen images require less.

  • IPad photo question

Since I installed ios7, the photos on my iPad have their locations listed. How can I turn off this feature?

  • I-photo questions about originals

Firstly apologies if this is too many questions in one post but my wi-fi is acting up.
    1. how can I view exactly how much space my originals are taking up and how much space the modified folder takes up on my hard drive i.e. how many Gigs in total?
    2. If I'm in i-Photo and I click on photos under library I see all my photos BUT where I have editted some I can obviously see two photos - one as the file name under it the other doesn't have anything under it - which one is the modified one, how do i tell?
    3. If I go into events the pictures that are in my events, are they originals or modified
OK I think those are my questions for now - thanks again for all your help - I've had this macbook for nearly 2 years now but have only just started using it - so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    SamalamaUK:
There is a way to determine the size of the Originals and Modified folders. Open the iPhoto LIbrary package as in this screenshot , select those folders individually and use the Get Info feature to determine the size.
*WARNING: Do not move, rename any folder or file while you're in the package via the Finder. Doing so will damage the library causing you to lose all of the organizational effort you have put into it.*
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Photo questions

    hi
i have two two questions about photography:
i have an IPhone and iPad and like using the shared albums feature to view the same photos on each device. How do I add to these albums when using my MacBook Air? Can I add to it easily without cables etc?
My other question is about amending the embedded dare and time in photographs.. I recently took some photographs using a SLR but realised after I'd uploaded them to my Mac  that the time and date were were formatted incorrectly in the camera so we're being filed wrong in the Mac.
Just a point for the above - I don't use iPhotos to manage my pics. Personal preference as I don't find it particularly nice to use.

You can add to the Shared albums from any device, where you are using the same Apple ID for iCloud. On a Mac you add to the Shared Albums from iPhoto or Aperture, see this help document:  iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ

You will have to use iPhoto at least to add to the Shared albums. Other wise you cannot access the Shared streams.
And while you have added your photos to iPhoto, use it to correct the capture date. That is easy in iPhoto.
Drag the photos to the iPhoto icon to import them.
Select all photos that need the same time correction in the Last Import album.
Use the command "Adjust Date and Time" and change the date of the first photo. All other selected photos will be corrected by the same amount. Use the option "Modify Original Files".
Then use "File > Export" to export the corrected photos. Don't delete the ones from iPhoto, that you want in the Shared Photo Stream.

  • IWeb photo question

    So i have made a pics/videos page on www.mmasucka.ca
I want to put photos on that page but in a folder. So the person clicks on a picture link to another page with all the photos on it... how do i do this?

Another option would be to create an album page. The drag a folder of photos from iPhoto via the Media Browser onto the page. That creates a "folder" which, when clicked on, will open a photo page of the photos. Here's an example of one: iPhoto Albums
You can add different frames around the albums if you'd like.

  • Is this even possible... newbie link/photo question

I know that I can link one thing to an entire photo. Is there any way at all to have little links that are on various spots of one photo? Someone is asking me to do this for our site but I just can't figure it out. I've only dabbled in Dreamweaver and I just don't even know where to look in the various help pages! If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be great. If it helps, here is the page they want me to make work in this way....http://www.hartleynature.org/ecology/1918.html

Worked like a charm! you are my new hero. Thanks for the help cause I'm sure it will get put to use throughout the site.

  • Importing Photo Question

I'm just getting around to importing and organizing my photos in iPhoto 7.1.1 on my new Mac Mini.
I've elected to NOT copy my photos to the iPhoto Library under the Advanced Tab in Preferences.
If I edit, from within iPhoto, an imported photo will this change the original photo or create an edited copy in the iPhoto Library?
If I edit a photo with another application will iPhoto pickup that edited version when I open iPhoto.
    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

    Douglas:
I second Larry's and Terence's reservations about using iPhoto in the referenced mode. If the external HD is not mounted you will not be able to use iPhoto, particularly if there are any movies in the library because iPhoto insists on completing the link to those movie files before settling down to normal work.
Since you're not running a laptop which you might take on the road, I agree with Terence in that a managed library on the external HD would be a better setup. Even better would be to have the managed library on the mini unless there are serious space issues and us the external HD for backups. Having only one copy of your files, whether on the boot drive or on an external is risky.

  • ICloud photos questions

Does iCloud back up the Camera Roll pics or just the Photo Stream pics or both?
Curious why the Photo Stream has 65 pics and Camera Roll has 853 which the same 65 photo stream pics are included in the camera roll? YOu would think photo stream would be at 853 pics too .

  • Importing photos question...

Is there any way to have iPhoto automatically place photos I import into a folder named for the date they were taken. My wife uses Kodak photo software and it places imported photos into a folders for the day, month and year they were taken. I was just wondering if iPhoto had a similar feature. Thanks.

I don't think that's possible, but it is very easy to view photos from a date or date range. I used to manually do this but after a while the album list got too unmanageable.
Here's what I do now: I just let iPhoto import the photos, and if I want something from a particular day, week, month or year, I bring up the calendar pane (button at the bottom left) and click the date or dates that I have in mind. The calendar isolates the photos from that date or date range.
A cool thing I discovered is the option-click. If you option-click a month or a day, iPhoto shows you all the photos for that month or day for all years. So you can quickly see holiday pics through the years, or what people did on all their birthdays, and so on.
So, in short, there's no way to do what you're asking, but there's a different means to the end you might have in mind.
