Mirror 2 Mirror--vertical lines during DVD player playback on Monitor 2

I have a gateway 22 inch and a RCA TV 40 inch. When I mirror to the RCA durring dvd playback i will see lines ONLY on the DVD window. It slowly scrolls. If i DO NOT mirror and just move the Player over from the gateway screen to the RCA screen, the Lines do not appear during playback. I want to mirror for my clients to see my VIDEO work on the Large TV..but it looks poor when I have slow moving vertical lines. How can I fix this? The vertical lines are ONLY in the DVD player window..the desktop part does not have the lines scrolling.

Well, I tried that on a section, and I'm afraid it may have been worse than I had originally.  These are the settings in Compressor that I tried.  Am I still getting something wrong?

  • Airplay Mirroring and the Mac DVD player not working

Has anyone else experienced issues trying to airplay mirror the mac dvd player?  When I attempt to play a dvd while airplay mirroring is turned on the dvd player window just shows the checkerboard pattern and no video (this is on both the laptop screen and the tv screen).  If I take airplay mirroring off the dvd displays properly.

I had this same problem, and i read that it has to do with DRM. Even DVDs you make your self wont work because the DRM is set on the DVD player it self. You can use VLC and it should work, it worked with me. Anyways good luck.

  • Vertical lines during DV capture

I'm capturing from a Canon GL2 miniDV camera. I've got it going directly from the firewire output on the camera to the firewire input on my computer. When FCP displays the video (and captures it), I get vertical lines overlayed on the image every quarter inch.
I've tried both firewire ports on my laptop and another camera. I'm getting the same thing.
What causes this? Anyone encountered this before?

Oh, that doesn't sound good then. Can you post a screen shot?
How old is the camera? Could the head be worn out, although I must admit what you described doesn't really sound like a worn head.
Are you only seeing this on the computer only or can you see it directly from the camera either on a tv or on the lcd? Do Gl2's have lcd screens? I know this seems like a lot of questions but its hard to troubleshoot something like this without seeing it.

  • Vertical lines during capture

    Hey Yall:
Just got Miglia director's cut take 2 for analog to digital capture into FCP 5, and am getting vertical lines in both FCP (5.0.4), and iMovie 6. Probably a miglia issue, but just trying to rule out any possible Mac issues. Any takers??

I've heard of similar complaints in the past. I don't believe that product play well with FCP.
Best to return it and get a Canopus 110, or better yet the 300 with built in TBC correction.

  • Burning DVD in Lion Problems. Keep getting REGION ERRORS in SONY DVD PLAYER @ playback. Settings correct. Leopard burns fine with all media. Lion does not with TOAST. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk.

I have tried several types of media in a brand new (less than 2 months old) 27" iMac running the latest version of Lion. It will not burn a standalone DVD player readable disk. I am in North America and buring in NTSC format. Settings are set properly. Buring at BEST speed - states its burning at 3x. I have tested SONY printable DVD's +R and Verbatim non printable -R disks in Lion with Roxio Toast 8 & 10. No luck. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk, but not realy happy about the look and functionality.
I am getting REGION LIMITATION errors in the SONY and other stand alone DVD Players.
Disk plays in XBox 360 and laptop PC also.
I am set to region 1.
AS I stated, DVDSTYLER does burn a readable disk, the problem seems to be with TOAST and LION ?
My old 21" iMac running Leopard 10.5.8 has no problems with burning. Any media, Toast 8, disks perform just fine.
    Any suggestions ?
My only solution is to do the editing of movies I need to do on the 27" and transfer them to the 21" for burning.
    lame
Or use the sub par DVDSTYLER program.
    acceptable but disappointing.
    ideas ?

SONY DVD player is brand spankin new.
    Have not tried Imation disks.
Its just puzzling that Leopard and Toast 8 produces a DVD where as Lion and Toast 8 produces a coaster.
I tried not printiable Verbatims. Same result.
Need printables for the projects that I do.
    Appreciate the suggetsions.
Will be methodically dilligent and post any results here.
any help from any others would be appreciated.

  • Graphics Update (and/or Security Update 5) killed DVD Player Playback???

DVD player worked fined before I applied the Graphics Update (and the Security Update 5).
Both done through the Software Update process
Now the DVD Player application gives me a black screen. (The sound is playing fine).
(Tried different DVDs, including one which I was half thru watching on my MacBook Pro)

I remembered I did one more thing. I swichted from the 32-bit startup to the 64-bit (using "32- or 64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector.app")
I now switched back, and DVD Player is working fine again.
So that is what causes the problem. (although I don't understand why, because even 32-bit applictions should run fine in the 64-bit Kernel mode)
I hope Apple will fix this issue soon.

  • Scripting to differentiate computer/dvd player playback

Does anyone know how to setup a script that would determine whether the user is playing the DVD on a computer DVD drive or a table top DVD player....and play a certain menu based on each?
    Thanks!

As Drew said, there isn't a way to tell the difference in scripting. We only have access to the SPRM information when scripting and this won't help since it only reports the spread of information to be found in any DVD player, whether that is a set top box or a DVD application on a computer. You can see a list of the available information here:
    http://www.dvdstudiopro.co.uk/sprm-guide/
Note that the original information came from DVD-replica.com.
You can see there isn't anything in that list which helps us know what type of player is being used.
What you could do is use a splash screen that asks the user to specify what they are using before you show them the main menu - a little like getting them to select a language, I guess. It's not foolproof by any means, but you can at least give a personalised experience for those who tell the truth!

  • DVD player for a monitor

I am considering buying a mac mini, yet cannot afford the cost of a new monitor. I have plenty of spare portable DVD players (gifts), so I was wondering if the player is able to be used as a monitor for the mac mini. If so can anyone tell me how to do that, and if not, can non apple monitors be used as the Mac Mini monitor?

I haven't seen any portable DVD players with a video input that would be needed to use as a computer display. Even if one did have a video input, the screen resolution would be too low.
Any computer display with a VGA or DVI input will work.

  • DVD Burns; no DVD Player Playback?

I am able to burn a DVD using DVDSP4 (Universal) and it will play back on any Mac or PC I try it on. However, putting it in various DVD Players (I've tried at least a dozen) will have it only say "Loading..." , then freeze or say "No Disc" on some; others work fine. I also tried a similar project in iDVD with the same results. Is there incompatibility with Mac-burned DVDs with some types of DVD players? I have tried Panasonic, JVC and Sony DVD Players; Apple, JVC and HP DVD-R's and different combinations of each.

It is strange that so many different players are having problems with so many diiferent forms of media, usually it is just one or two combinations and not that prevavlent.
I know some people who get iDVD to work better than DVD SP on a problematic player they have, but it is usually just one (i.e., they have one of many players act "weird") And I tried to get DVD SP discs to work on the problem player, but in fact it was sporadic as you have described.
If you can go through each step of how you are making the DVDs, compression rates, Dolby/apac rates, burn speeds etc, there may be something there (you should encode .mov outside of DVD SP)
On thing to try is to put a small few second move/FBI warning or something on the dsic, some people have indcated going to first play of a menu will mess up players for them

  • Green vertical line on Monitor on Satellite A80

I have an SA 80 127. It is been 1.5 years.
Recently, a bright green vertical line is showing up on my monitor; seems like some LCD problem.
Anyone has any clues what I should do?
    Thanks..

A single vertical line can't be the FL inverter. The FL inverter (Flurescent Lamp inverter) is only in charge for the brightness of the screen.
Individual lines like the one you describe can be either the graphic card (check can be done by using external monitor), software driver (check can be made by using other OS or wait in the BIOS menu until problem will reappear), TFT screen (lucky case: The ribbon cable got loose or the vga card is not seated correctly, unlucky case: hardware damage on the TFT... replacement of the screen required)
Get a quote from the Toshiba Service or (if you are up to it on your own risk) disassemble the screen, locate the trouble (by moving the display and reseating the described possible sources of malfunction) and finally search on e-bay to buy a cheap replacement screen that can be even lower than 50 Euro.

  • How can I use mirror imaging on my macbook pro to show a movie through my dvd player on my apple tv? just downloaded mountain goat and am unimpressed. when i try to mirror image a dexter dvd to my apple tv it gives me a checkered screen. anyone know why?

what do i do to mirror image dvd player to apple tv?

I have the same problem, just a chequered screen for me as well.
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro & an Apple TV 3 so hardware is ok.
You'd think using an Apple app with the latest kit would'nt throw up any problems.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • DVD Player - weird "mirroring" border

When a DVD starts playing in the DVD Player application on my iMac, there is a border of about 1 pixel all around the edge of the picture that seems to mirror the image on the opposite side of the screen. Go to http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=552502 for more info.
Other than zooming in, which cuts off part of the picture, I can't figure out how to fix this. Any ideas on how to actually fix this? Do I need to just report it as a bug?

i'm on a powerbook g4 running tiger 10.4.6. just today my dvd player has been acting weird once i put in a dvd. it plays the dvd but the screen is super distorted with green squares all over the screen.
it's done this with three dvds already. however when i open the dvd in VLC, it plays fine.

  • I think I overused my DVD player watching DVD movies with G5 with tv mirror

I am a switcher. I bought a G5 which has been connected to my tv with a dvi/S connector and a twenty foot cable. I watch a lot of DVD rom training on my TV and then started using my computer to watch DVD movies routinely on tv.. The CD/DVD always makes noises like spinning, but lately has stopped recognizing the DVDs I put in. And once I inadvertenttly inserted a CD on top of a DVD and It ground about making terrible noises before i could get it ejected.
Now can't burn jpgs onto a
DVD and give them to pc friends and family. I don't know if i wrecked the hardware. But any advice on replacing or determining problem would be welcome. I have heard it is better to buy memory, add ons from online stores for better price than Apple store. What should I do? Can I take my G5 in for service in San Diego somewhere without paying more than a good online price for a new DVD/CD burner. And since my G5 is over 6 years old. Which can I upgrade to. I want to be able to burn pics for backup and gifts playable on tvs sold to play jpg. Maybe i did something wrong in burning. I think I was using Lightroom and it chose the burn folder. I am used to using Toast 6. choosing pc/mac compatible during setup. I have a jpg dvd player and it won't read the disc either. Does Tiger's BurnFolder only work on Mac computers after burning CD or DVD. Reason i choose DVD was I had a large media of SLR and they wouldn't all fit on a CD/

    Two options:
Buy a new Pioneer 111 or 112 drive for about $40-50 and change it in about 5 minutes.
Or if you think a new computer is in the offing or you would rather have a DVD drive on the desktop where it is handy, get a LaCie D2 external FW drive and use that. They even provide a full non demo version of Toast with a new D2.
Or if you are indecisive do what I did and get both.

Hi, In addition to using the 32bit browser, did you run the Adobe Installer prior to Installing? This is needed to Uninstall all old versions from all browsers first.
If you have done that, did you Install the Flash Player for IE and then also for FF(Firefox & other browsers) I am not familiar with Wyco.
    Thanks,

    king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America.
