Mirror agent & failed logout-- HELP!

There are a lot of other discussions on this topic, and many people seem to be familiar with the mirror agent failing to quit and freezing up the logout process, but I have been researching these discussions and the only one that had any tips was so specifically for people who understand macs in depth that I couldn't figure out what they were talking about.
I have been having this mirror agent & failed logout issue for a really long time and I don't know how to fix it.
And I don't understand when people just say "oh go to the whatever utility and take the tilda out of the library address" blah blah blah... I have no idea. :o)
I see in the other discussions that this may be related to .Mac (I do have a .Mac account) or iDisk (I do use idisk, and have already changed the syncing preferences off of automatic) or something about mobile accounts... i don't really know what that is.
logout is not the only time my powerbook is freezing up lately, and it's getting worse. I can no longer use Word without everything freezing up.
Please please help! Don't be afraid to sound patronizing. I literally know nothing about the inner machinations of computers. I have tried a few other things based on other support discussions, but the problem still persists.
THANKS!!!

I've been having serious beach balls and I think it;s related ti iTunes but I noticed this post by TaosMouse and though ]t I 'd give it a try / let us know if it works .

Mirror Agent can turn into your worst nightmare if your connection is intermittent. It will lock up the entire computer until it finishes what it was trying to do.
This was annoying before, but it has become astoundingly un Mac like since .mac expanded to 10 gigs. Now you can wait 5 minutes if you have a problem. I know this because my wireless link (fixed wireless) someimes gets flaky, and I basically have to do situps until I can use my mac again.
So.... Here's what you do: Go to System preferences -> .mac ->iDisk and click STOP under iDisk Synching On. That should do it, but you will no longer have a local copy of your iDisk to work with.

  • "Mirror agent failed to quit"

i recently posted a question about what may be causing my imac to freeze while shutting down ... or at least take a really long time to shut down. i got a lot of good advice on potential problems, i ran the disk utility, fixed permisions, and disk errors.
i decided to run updater, and after installing a security update, when my computer tried to restart it gave me the following message:
"mirror agent failed to quit...(and then something like shutdown timed out)"
is this a problem? any way to fix it?
    thanks
    brett

    brett,
According to QuickTimeKirk, The "Mirror Agent" is the software that keeps your local copy of your iDisk in "sync" with your remote copy.It could be that you had made changes at Homepage and the files had not yet been "synced" to your local copy. If it happens often you can turn off the "automatic" syncing feature.;~)

  • In-Home Agent Fails - Supervisor Help Please!!!

    I recently installed fios.
I have never been able to get the In-Home Agent to work properly.
The graphics overlap each other in places and some of the text runs off the right edge, making parts unreadable.
If that weren't bad enough, 99% of the time the imbedded links do not function at all. ( I finally did get the "Chat" link to work once, but that was an exercise in futility.)
I see this on 2 different computers.
I have just downloaded the latest & greatest version to my Win7 computer and there is no difference.
The Chat & email support is completely useless. They know less than I do. (I let one "tech" take remote control of one of my computers and his impatience with with a slow application resulted in him trying to open the program about 15 times; causing the computer to drag to a halt. I had to do a hard reboot to recover from his ineptness.)
I was able to set up my hotspot account only because someone here in the forum showed me how to find my way through the mind-boggling labyrinth that Verizon calls a web site to the setup form and application.
Why can't I get proper support for this problem?
Does anyone at Verizon really care?
    It seems not.
    Solved!

I point to and quote from http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Verizon-In-Home-Agent-runs-on-my-system-MAC-OSX-but-does-...
    a)
like the online version of the app at www.verizon.com/repair
you can do a lot of the functions of the app without all the bloatware.
    b)
As other have said it does something, it waste resources.  Not sure on the MAC, but on PC's it has been none to drive at least one cpu to 100% (If you only have one its really bad).  And the number of functions it does that you might ever want to do is minimal.
Personally I recommend that you uninstall it, and make sure you get all pieces of it

  • "Mirror Agent"

After using the same iMac G5 and OS 10.3.9 for two years (with no problem), suddenly when I try to log out I get the message "mirror agent canceled log out". I can only log out after closing each program that had been opened. I cannot find "mirror agent" on my computer. In another user area on my computer this problem does not occur---only in my user area.
I do not understand the current responses regarding this problem which are currently posted.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    sirwinston,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Read "The Black Cat: Troubles major, minor, solved and unsolved with Panther," by Francine Schwieder. The paragraph entitled iDisk and Mirror Agent: succinctly describes the problem.
Mac OS X 10.3: "The application 'Mirror Agent' has stopped logout/restart/shutdown" is the official Apple summary.

If your are not able to download even smaller attachments/reports then, I would raise an SR with Oracle.

  • Accessing execution agent failed

    Hi!
I'm using Oracle 10g XE on linux. When I want execute any scheduler jobs get everytime the following error message:
ORA-27370: job slave failed to launch a job of type EXECUTABLE
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:accessing execution agent failed with status: 2
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No such file or directory
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sjsec 3
The user privileges and owner of the extjob is set correctly.
The script runs on other servers without errors (on LINUX and WINDOWS too, but on 10g Enterprise Ed.).
This error seems to be the 'OracleJobScheduler service not runnig' in case of Windows, but here is no service. I could generate this problem by hand with renaming the extjob file in a goodworking system.
Could anyone help me in this problem? Why can't the oracle process see the extjob file?
    Thanks for help
    nmsAkos

    Hi,
What schema are you running the jobs in ?
In the SYS schema, the Scheduler uses the extjobo executable to execute jobs but I think on XE this executable might be missing so jobs in the SYS schema would be expected to throw this error.
You could fix this by simply doing something like
    cp extjob extjobo
    chmod 0755 extjobo
Or you could grant create job (and possibly create external job) to a regular user and have the user create the external job. I believe that in XE by default extjob is not setuid so all jobs would run as the oracle user. This may have security implications.
If this doesn't help could you say what schema you are running the jobs in and give the output of "ls -l extjob*" in the oracle bin directory.
    Hope this helps,
    Ravi.

  • Mirror Agent not shutting down - what is this?

Hello - Does anyone know what Mirror Agent is? In the last week when I try to shut down a time out pops up w/ - Mirror agent has failed to log out so the shut down is canceled. This is probably not the right forum but can anyone direct me to the correct forum? Thank you in advance. Tami

Mirror agent is the "sync" feature of iDisk.
A mirror is a "reflection" of the files your are trying to "sync".
You can turn synching off in the MobileMe System Preference pane / iDisk tab.

  • "Mirror Agent" won't quit ?????

this has happened many times in the past, but I've never figured it out. After ******** Shut Down, I notice that the MacBook isn't shutting down. Suddenly, a message appears on the screen saying that "Mirror Agent" won't quit and is interfering with shut down. After three or four tries, I can usually get the thing to shut down. What in God's name is "Mirror Agent"? Something related to the OS? Some phantom app on my mac? Anybody else ever get this? -- david in Kansas City

This is the Tiger forum but the issue is old.

  • Mirror Agent Crashing Constantly

I have a daemon process that I discovered running on my iBook G4 in the console log and the activity monitor. It's called Mirror Agent. It keeps starting and crashing constantly. Sometimes when I try to shut down, I can't because it says "Mirror Agent" won't let me. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a trojan horse, spyware, or part of OS X on the iBook that is doing something strange. At a minimum, it is using system resources by starting and crashing over and over.

    Mirror agent is used by the system to synchronize your idisk. Sometimes there is a simple solution to fix this -- mirror agent may have opened a dialog box (hidden behind other open windows) with a message for you and it won't quit until you close the dialog box. The following link may help;
