Mirror Agent prevents shut down

Since I recently reinstalled Tiger (after erasing the hard drive) I have had Mirror Agent prevent me from shutting down the computer.
First what does Mirror Agent do again?
Seems like it has something to do with syncing my idisk?
How can I set it so it does not block my shut downs?
This was not a problem before.

I have the same problem with shutdown and Mirror Agent.
I have followed several threads through, did you get a difinitive answer?
Finds include : Activity Monitor references and ejecting iDisc.
Cheers

  • Mirror Agent not shutting down - what is this?

Hello - Does anyone know what Mirror Agent is? In the last week when I try to shut down a time out pops up w/ - Mirror agent has failed to log out so the shut down is canceled. This is probably not the right forum but can anyone direct me to the correct forum? Thank you in advance. Tami

Mirror agent is the "sync" feature of iDisk.
A mirror is a "reflection" of the files your are trying to "sync".
You can turn synching off in the MobileMe System Preference pane / iDisk tab.

  • Mirror agent cancels shut down

    Hi all.
On occassion when I try to shut down or restart my imac, i get a message that a mirror agent has cancelled the command. The only thing I can figure is that the mirror agent has something to do with my idisk. I signed up for the free idisk trial and am not using it at all. Is it safe to delete the idisk icon from my desktop and trash the mirror folder from my library?
    Thanks

    Daniel,
If the .mac syncing is indeed the problem, then try going to System Preferences>.Mac>iDisk and disabling syncing from there.
There are other ways to kill this process and I'm not sure if you have access to the controls w/o a subscription, but try it and if it fails report back.
    Good Luck,

  • SAPCCM4X agents are shutting down by itself

    Hello Gurus
A few SAPCCM4X agents are shutting down by itself and this is happening
for systems which have a version 4.6c and 4.5B in our landscape like PCX.. Analyzing the log of one of this agents the
    message below is informed:
    Mon May 9 04:41:10 2011
CCMCTRL: ERROR: csm_show_file: no permission to
    read /usr/sap/PCX/SYS/profile/PCX_G34_zonepcx
CCMCTRL: ERROR: csm_show_file: Please check sapccmsr.ini
I tried to find the profile mentioned in the warning but with no
succes. The cause of the shutdown of the agent is that because the
correct profile is PCX_DVEBMGS34_zonepcx instead of PCX_G34_zonepcx but
why it is looking for the wrong one when everything is configured with
    the profile PCX_DVEBMGS34_zonepcx . I also checked sapccmsr.ini but
    found nothing.
I  can start the agent normally choosing the correct parameter
(PCX_DVEBMGS34_zonepcx) but sometimes the agent shutdown by itself
after 3-4 days with the error message above.
Why the agent search for the wrong profile and where can I change it to
    the right profile ?
Or is there any other way to resolve it.
    Thanks and Regards
    Ashwini

Thank you Mani, I will make this test in only one appl server and monitor.
I will let you know the resul of my tests.
    Regards

  • Data Execution Prevention shutting down iTunes even with exception added

Well, was having this problem, it miraculously fixed itself for like a day but now it is happening again. Data Exectuion Prevention for Windows keeps shutting down iTunes. I have gone into the DEP settings and added an exception for it to not apply to iTunes but it is still happening every time I open iTunes. Today I downloaded and installed the new version of iTunes, hoping that would make a difference, but it is still happening. Also, since I installed that version about an hour ago, iTunes keeps opening itself without me telling it to--every five minutes I see it opening without me doing anything and then immediately being closed by DEP. I am getting very frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same issue after my recent update of iTunes.  I didn't update Quicktime 'cuz I don't use it much (or at all).  On another thread discussing the same issue, I saw that the Quicktime installation can affect iTunes.  So I downloaded the latest Quicktime, installed, redooted - issue fixed (for now).

  • PowerMac G4 (Mirror door drive) shuts down automatically when starting up.

I use a PowerMac G4 (Mirror door drive) 1.25 Ghz processor with1.25 GB ram, 80GB HDD. OS 10.2.7
Recently I could not start the machine as it automaticallyshuts down during starting when the log in dialog box appears. It also creates excessivesounds (hopefully from the processor fan) during starting up.
What is the possible cause for it? Upgrading the OS (10.5.8) could solve it? Or suggestions from exparts like you? Plz Help.

Thanks BDAqua. Sorry, no actionsworked. I think, the possible cause might be, the processor heats up more andthe fan start rotate more to cool down the processors and it makes the sound. But processor becomes hotter and the CPU automatically shuts down.
Apple service center in my townseparated, cleaned and reinstalled the processor & motherboard from thecase but NO IMPROVEMENT. They are trying to suggest (with confusion) changingthe processor. Do the diagnosis going right path? They do not have any G4 1.25 GHzprocessor, where will I get it?  Anysuggestions from the experts of this forum?

  • Kernal panic preventing shut down after Mountain Lion upgrade

Following upgrade to Mountain Lion, kernal panics are stopping shut down of my Mac from the apple menu. I have a late-2009 Mac Mini. OS X closes as normal but then restarts with message "Your computer restarted because of a problem". I have performed disk verfication, repaired permissions, reset VRAM and SMC. Booting from original hardware disc allows a normal shut down, so I suspect this is software related (probably Mountain Lion?). Kernal panic report from Console is below.
Reading this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4135480?start=30&tstart=0 suggests problems with nvidia cards and Mountain Lion. My Mac Mini has the original nvidia card it shipped with (9600M) and if I disconnect the display just before shut down it (usually) seems to shut down normally so might be display related?
Other than the problem with shutting down everything is working normally. First instance of this problem was immediately after installing Mountain Lion. I am currently considering a full-reinstall of Mountain Lion from the recovery partition and using Time Machine to retrieve my settings etc, although I am concerned this will not work if it is a genuine bug.
Any assistance or solutions gratefully received!

    Hello hotdavesweet,
It sounds like you have exactly the same problem as I have - nothing connected except the TV, permissions repaired, PRAM reset, etc.
Are you using Mountain Lion?? I had to downgrade to Lion to solve it. Unfortunately, a very similar problem occurs with the latest version of Lion (10.7.5). I'm sure that something with the latest updates is causing problems on certain Macs. I've filed a bug report with Apple so it may help if you do the same.
It could be a problem with using Samsung LCD TVs as monitors. Or maybe a graphics card issue - the user in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4316892?start=15&tstart=0 noted that a similar problem on a 2009 Mac Pro was caused by their (nvidia) graphics card driver.
Either way, I think it is something that Apple should address, even if it is only affecting a few users. Apple's mantra used to be that everything just works, but now I cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion with my setup (despite my Mac being easily capable of running it) and nor can I upgrade to Lion 10.7.5. It doesn't work as it should.

  • Why can't I open the Mail ap. on my Macbook Air?  It is also preventing 'shut down'.

My 1-year-old Macbook Air operates on OS X version 10-9-5.
Last night I went to shut down, and was informed that the Mail ap. was blocking shut down, and that I should close Mail and try shutdown again.
But I then found that I could no longer access Mail, though its icon has the little white bar indicating it was already open.

Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder or the Spotlight menu. Select the unresponsive app in the Activity monitor window. Choose Quit Process from the View menu, or click the Force Quit button in the toolbar of the Activity Monitor window.

Yes it is part of the power suppy. You might want to check one of these used and refurbished outlets for parts that are listed in my FAQ*:

  • Macbook Pro Randomly Shuts Down and Restarts

    Hi There,
This issue appears to have occured for other people in different forms but there does not appear to have been a conclusive answer to the problem, so here's hoping someone here might be able to provide some further insight into the issue, and with some luck, a solution.
I have an early 2008 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2 (plugged-in to power) that has started to randomly shut down and then restart itself (goes through all the start up screens; Apple logo etc.). It doesn't appear to be just a straight restart of the machine, but it shuts down, and then a couple of seconds later, reboots, as though it is two different actions...
The computer does this pretty randomly, and now quite often. It happens when applications are running, Safari for example, and when nothing is running and i just go to open Finder or use Spotlight.
I haven't had this issue in the past (some 3+ years of full time use now) and as far as i'm aware, nothing changed on the computer immediately prior to the issue occuring (no updates, installs etc.).
I've checked the systen log which, each time the issue occurs, returns the message 'Previous Shutdown Cause: -128'. I've sought reference as to what this refers to, but it would appear to be a mystery to the WWW.
I have tried the following solutions with no success:
    - Proper restart and reboot of system;
    - Repair permissions;
    - Reset SMC;
    - Reinstall OS X.
Any thoughts on what the problem is, what the '-128' refers to, or what more i can try to solve the issue?
Your help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I know this is a really old thread, and everyone's probably already bought new computers now. However, I'm still using my 2010 MacBook Pro and have been experiencing this very frustrating issue. However, I think I just found a way to open a finder window that prevents the shut down. In Finder>Preferences>General, under "New Finder windows show", I had "All my files" selected (BAD?), which probably was the cause, because setting that to "Desktop" instead has prevented shut downs, for now. Just thought I should share this tip, in case anyone else suffers from this annoying issue.  If anyone has a better tip or a real fix, please post a reply! There are still people, like myself, working on these older machines who would appreciate the info. THANKS!

  • MacBook Won't Shut Down

    Hi Folks.
I've been using Macs for a long time with much success trouble shooting when needed. But while my MacBook 2Ghz Core Duo starts & runs fine, but will not shut down normally. It stops at the "cleared desktop" view and that's it. I've repaired permissions, turned Airport on & off.......
    Any suggestions? Many thanks!!

Let's see... Although not directly related, I would zap the PRAM:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
I've also read things about some USB peripherals preventing shut down. You might want to rule that out also (by removing them of course).
Finally, I would try trashing a .plist file wich may have become corrupt.
    Here's the path:
    HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration >com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
Drag it to the desktop, try shutting down. If it works, trash the file (a new one is automatically created in the appropriate place, no worries).
Hope this helps. I'm out of ideas. Thanks for the star.
    Cheers

  • HT1338 Shut down MacPower book not working

I cannot power off. Shut down selection is dimmed.
Window comes up stating Safari is preventing shut down.
Safari close feature on menu is also dimmed.
    Is this Malware?
How do I shut off my computer ?

    Thanks Hans,
It is not an issue with sleeping the machines, but actual start ups and shut downs.
I will try setting the preferences so that the machines never sleep, to see if there is a conflict between the sleep times and the shut down. I would rather that the machines were actually turned off overnight rather than sleeping.
The article suggests a lot of things that contribute to the machines not sleeping, and the one that jumped out at me was if the machines are connected to a network - which they all are - but that wouldn't explain why some of them shut down as expected, and some of them don't.
Unfortunately, we have students using the machines all day so there isn't a chance to check the procedures!

  • Failure to shut down or restart

Have G4 Quicksilver (2002 model) that now hangs up on restart or shut down. Upon clicking on either Restart or Shut Down, all icons on desktop, menu bar, and dock dissapear but desktop pattern remains and computer stalls. Have to shutdown manually (front on button on computer) then restart manually by pressing same button after computer actually shuts down. Any ideas to correct problem????
    G4 Quicksilver (2002) 800 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   17" screen

First try repair permissions with Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.
If that does not work, try repairing the hard disk directory:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
And if that does not show any problems, but it still won't shut down, see if some third party peripheral which is connected is preventing shut down. If any of those peripherals stores data, drag its icon to the trash first before disconnecting it. If no third party peripheral appears to be affecting shutdown, and the above does not help, see if creating a new administrative user and shutting down from that user helps. Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts is where you assign new users. If that works, then it says some preference in your existing user is corrupted. Let us know how far you get?
