Mirror desktop to smart tv

I have a HP ENVY 700-210 Desktop PC.  I am trying to wirelessly mirror my desktop to a Samsung Smart TV. I was able to setup the TV in Devices & Printers and can connect to it and 'play to' it for pictures, videos and music, but haven't been able to set it up as a second monitor to extend or mirror my desktop. The TV supports mirroring but doesn't detect my computer as a source to mirror from. Is this possible with my system or is a third-party solution my best bet, and if so, which gizmo would you recommend most?

What is the purpose of extending the display? I thought the TV was beside your pc monitor (and pc).
But since your pc is in another part of your house, I guess you are not using the tv to work.
Are you trying to stream movies, music to your TV (basement) via your pc (kitchen).
I don't trust wireless to work on devices separate by a wall.
Now, if your main purpose is to stream movies to your tv, I would recommend using powerlines to connect your tv to your home network. It uses your electrical network to enable data transfer. It's not as fast and reliable as wired networking but I find it way better than wireless. This works only if your basement and kitchen is on the same electrical grid. (I don't see why not).
Afterwards, share the folders on your pc and the TV should be able to access them via network.
In the future, you could just get an NAS and store all your movies, mp3 on it. NAS uses little power and you can just leave it on all day long. You won't have to turn on your pc
Example of powerline.

  • Mirror desktop now or in the future with Apple TV?

I have read that with iOS5 and the iPad 2, one can mirror their iPad screen onto their HD TV with the Apple TV2.  I have not read anything about mirroring desktop screens onto their TVs yet, and I have played around with this on my own Apple TV2 to no avail.  Can one mirror desktop content (e.g., a web browser)  to their HD TV through an Apple TV2, or do I have it right in that you can't do it?  It's always fun to speculate, so could this maybe be something to look forward to in the future?

No that,s not currently possible on the Apple TV.
This is a user to user community, no one here will know whether it may become possible, if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here.

  • Remote desktop and smart cards

I frequently work from home using my mac to access my windows based desktop at the office. I use the microsoft remote desktop v. 1.0.3. for MAC. Now that my agency is moving to smart card identification requirements for access I need to be able to use the smart card at home to sign onto the office desktop.
The RDC for MAC does not have an option for smart card readers (as opposed to the RDC for windows version). Is there alternative software that would be simple to install on my MAC (I am not an IT sophisticate) that will give me smart card access?

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) for Mac and Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) are two completely different tools with marginally similar capabilities. Unfortunately, as you've already discovered, neither offers Smart Card capabilities to allow you to authenticate to your Windows computer at work.
If your Mac is an Intel Mac then you could probably run Windows using Parallels or Boot Camp on your home computer and use the Windows RDC client to make your connection. I don't suggest trying to use VirtualPC if you have a PowerPC Mac simply because your Smart Card reader will most likely be USB and VirtualPC has a bad track record with USB devices.
    Hope this helps!

  • MS Remote Desktop and smart card reader

I have installed MS Remote Desktop Conn. on my iMac and connected a smart card reader via the USB. Although my reader energizes when the computer is on, the computer doesn't seem to recognize the reader. When I insert a CAC card into the reader and try to log in remotely, I continue to get a "username/password" box instead of the CAC PIN number. Do I need to install some kind of smart card driver or does Apple already have it? I'm at a loss as to how to fix this.

I was able to get rdesktop 1.6.0 to install on my Mac and I was able to get CAC log-in to work.
However, the installation is a little tricky. I downloaded rdesktop 1.6.0 from this link:
    My instructions for installation:
    1. Make sure Xcode Tools is installed on your computer. It should be on your OS X install disk.
    2. Find out where your X11 libraries are located:
-From the Finder menu, selct "Go" >> "Go to Folder..."
-Type (without the quotes) "/usr/X11", and click "Go"
You should see a bunch of folders. Make sure the "include" and "lib" folders are there. Otherwise you need to find out where the X11 "include" and "lib" folders are located on your computer.
    3. Download rdesktop and place the (unarchived) rdesktop-1.6.0 folder on your Desktop
    4. Open the X11 application (should be in your Utilities folder)
    5. In the X11 window type the following (without the quotes):
    "cd Desktop/rdesktop-1.6.0 && ./configure --enable-smartcard -x-includes=/usr/X11/include -x-libraries=/usr/X11/lib && make && sudo make install"
    4. Hit enter. When prompted, enter your administrator password and hit enter.
rdesktop should now be installed in the following folder:
    /usr/local/bin
So, to launch rdesktop with smartcard log in enabled, open the X11 application (or Terminal application) and type the following (without the quotes, and replace your.server.address with the server address):
    "cd /usr/local/bin && ./rdesktop -r scard your.server.address"
Hit enter and it should launch a new X11 window that will try to access the remote server where you should be prompted for your PIN.
To explore more options with rdesktop, open X11 and type the following (without quotes):
    "cd /usr/local/bin && ./rdesktop"
Hit enter and you should get a list of options available to rdesktop.

  • Remote desktop and smart card

    Hi.
I need to use a smart card while working with remote desktop.
My office pc runs win XP and have a smart card connected. I can not use that card when working remotly, its not found. Like its disconnected.
I also have a smart card connected to my Mac at home. The smart card works fine when the VPN connection ask for my code.
The problem is that it does not get forwarded. I have tried to use MS Remote Desktop for mac and CoRD.
But none of them supports the smart card.
It works fine with parallels/win7 on my mac, I can then use my smart card.
How ever I would like to not use the win/ on my mac.
Do anybody have a soulution to this? Are there any Remote desktop applications that support forwarding of smart card for Mac OS?
    Thanx for any tips

You can install rdesktop with Smart Card support.
It is fairly easy if you use something like MacPorts, Fink, or Homebrew.
I know MacPorts has a port for it that I used in the past.

  • No longer can mirror desktop on Apple TV 3

    Hello,
I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Apple TV 6.0. For the longest time I was able to mirror my desktop and vlc player onto my tv through ATV. Now the only way to send audio or video to the screen is through iTunes. Is this an Apple change to make you use iTunes and not be able to view my desktop and use another player? I tried searching the forum and I kept running into people with an older mac and just old posts. I have an Early 2011 but could mirror before. I have AirParrot, but I like just using the AppleTV since I didn't have to depend on another App. Thanks for any help.
    Jason

ATV3 lets me only buy/rent movies or shows. Is this really true?
Also, no volume control on the remote. What a joke!
That's correct, no option to purchase music.
How many other devices have the ability to turn the volume up/down from the DVD player, set top-box etc.

  • Mirroring Desktop at Different Resolutions

    Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to mirror the desktop at different resolutions without my cinema display shrinking down the viewable area? I have a seperate 27" hdtv in my living room hooked up and I want to be able to use both displays on the desktop. When I choose to mirror, then change the resolution on my cinema display, it makes the actual viewing area the same resolution (in size) the same as the hdtv, and leaves a lot of blox surrounding the viewable area, but the tv looks great. Is there any way I can run the cinema display in full screen used at native resoluting while using lets say the hdtv at 800x600 both mirrored?
I am going to try and switch the ports on the back of my macpro and see if that makes a difference, any suggestions would be awesome!
    Thanks,
    Tim

Thank you for the reply, unfortunetly I know what your saying, I do know the difference between screen spanning and mirroring. I have a specific need where I want to mirror my desktop to two different screens at different resolutions. That is simply it. I have set up my hdtv in another room and cannot use the screen spanning since a) I cannot access the dock from my lcd, becuase my cinema display screen is in another room b) half the time I cannot even find the mouse. When I setup mirroring, and attempt to set the cinema display to bative 1600x1050 resolution, it puts the screen in a type of compressed viewable, where the actual dimensions are 800x600, which is what my hdtv is running at (I have to run it at 800x600 because I am using a homemade vga over cat5e converter and the hdtv looks and runs bests (without ghosting) at this resolution).
So the main question is, is it possible to diplsay the same desktop onto two different monitors at different resolutions with distortion of either dispkay?
If you would like a photo of what is happeneing on my cinema display, just let me know, it is hard to describe and I dont blame the doubtness of this thread.
    Thank you for helping out!
    Tim

  • How to mirror desktop to Apple TV?

I just upgraded to Mavericks on our iMac. It seems that I should be able to mirror the desktop to our Apple TV, but I can't figure out how to do it. I can play to the Apple TV via iTunes, but I want to mirror the desktop.. is this possible? Thanks!

You have to use AirPlay Mirroring, which requires a Mid 2011 or newer iMac. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
If your computer is not supported, use an application like AirParrot or Beamer

  • Can i used air play mirroring to other smart tv?

can i use air play mirroring from my macbook pro to samsung smart tv?

    No.
    You can only use Airplay.

  • Poor video quality when Mirroring desktop..

I'm having trouble when I'm doing video mirroring to another monitor. I'm using the Apple mini-VGA -> VGA cable, and it's plugged into my 19" Sony Trinitron VGA (CRT) monitor. The colors are crisp and vibrant on the iMac, but the CRT is definitely blurry and dull looking. Text is definitely not sharp, nor are any borders around windows, etc. Does anyone have personal experience using mirroring between the iMac and CRT monitors? Is there anything I can do to improve the display quality?

The quality when doing this is bad.
I've tried it with my MacBook on a TV with horrible quality.
Try it on a LCD monitor, you'll see better results.

  • Possible to mirror desktop video to firewire?

I recently upgraded to a G5 dual 1.8 from a G4. The G4 had a second video board (Radeon Mac Edition PCI) that output composite video so I could have a desktop on my TV, which was handy for watching movies and iPhoto slideshows, for instance. The main AGP board drove two displays.
The G5 drives two displays great with the GeForce FX 5200. I'm hesitating to install the Radeon in the G5 because I was having sleep issues with the G4 which might have been caused by it, and the video quality was never that great.
I found SimpleVideoOut X, which is great for sending QT movies out to my TV via my firewire camcorder. The quality is beautiful, much better than the Radeon composite output was.
If I could have anything I wished for, I'd really like to simply use my firewire output like a third display, so I can watch slideshows or even desktop windows etc on it. Anybody know if that's possible or how I could do that?
    Thanks!

In theory that should be possible:
Rename your "iTunes" folder in your "Music" directory on your new iMac.
Create an alias named "iTunes" that points to the "iTunes" Folder on your old iMac and place it into "Music" on your new iMac (where the renamed iTunes folder resides).
That should work - but accessing/altering your Library from both Macs at the same time could mess it up.

  • Mirroring my PC laptop with AppleTV for use with a SMART Board

I just installed an AppleTV in my classroom. My iPad mirrors onto my SMART Board via the appleTV, but I cannot do the same with my PC laptop.  Do I need additional software to mirror presentations such as power point, the Internet, SMART documents, etc.?

Yes, try a 3rd party program like Airparrot.

  • Program error when attempting to edit a vector smart object. Help?

I'm running Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) 64bit on a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion. About 60% of the time when I try to double click a vector smart object instead of opening it up in Illustrator I get an error that says, "Could not edit original smart object because of program error." This most recent time it was a smart object from vector data I copied and pasted from Illustrator into Photoshop.
Any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
I got this problem when I installed Adob master collection Over CS 5.
I had children book story storis which created in Adobe illustrator CS 5 and I created art boards in Adobe photoshop cs 5.
After installting CS 6 i tried to edit the smart objects and it was not opeinging the smart object file in Illustrator.
    I did some tests.
    1) Right click on smart object layer and click export contents. Save on desktopp or anywhere you want. (I saved on desktop)
    2) I had this file on my desktop (Vector Smart Object10.ai) but it didn't show any icon, which program should open this type of file.
    3) Double click on the file and it pop up a extension window 'Click on change and select adobe illustrator' and press OK.
    4) Go back to your photoshop file and right click on smart object layer and click dit content. now this time it opens up assets in illustrator.
    ENJOY!

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.
