  • Mirror display no menu bar

    Hello,
I have a mac mini with no thunderbolt port.  I am using DVI to monitor and HDMI to HDTV for a mirror display.  The TV does not show the menu bar at the top of the screen.  The TV does not have any size adjustment options.  The underscan option in system preference is greyed out.  The menu bar does show on the monitor  What do I need to do on the mac mini to get the menu bar to show on the TV?

With what is Happening, & I don't know why since I do not have the same equipment & circumstances, is to use Extended Displays & change the monitor that has the Menubar before they move one, another possibility if you can't get warning is to set up an Admin user for each Monitor situation.

  • Will the Display Menu app hold mirrored settings upon restart?

I work at a College and manage over 100 classroom computers. In each classroom the computer is connected to a projector. When we moved to Mavericks we lost the majority of display resolutions formerly available to us and unfortunately, none of the remaining resolutions match the native resolution of our projectors. We primarily set up our computers and projectors in mirrored mode.
I've been testing a couple apps that help uncover the hidden resolutions. These are: Display Menu, Display Maestro and Switch ResX. All the apps give me the resolution variety I've been looking for but only Switch ResX holds the settings I choose upon restarting the machine. Display Menu and Display Maestro are much cheaper so, I was hoping to use those if possible. Does anyone know how to get either to hold their settings upon restarting? Does anyone recommend Switch ResX ? Any other display apps I should try?
    Thank you.

Try rebooting the STB and then change the clock setting and change it back. That worked for me when i had this issue. I have seen this reported a couple of times and most of the time if this fix didnt work, the issue resolved itself within a couple of days.
Also, it should be noted that with the 1.7IMG release they changed the way the front display functioned. It now changes to show the channel number at every program change and then reverts back to showing the clock after about 2 minutes.

  • HT201343 I am trying to stream a video from U-tube on to my TV using my apply T.V. The airplay icon appears on my i-tunes but not on u-tube. It does stream on to my T.V using i-tunes so I take it it does have airplay, but does not appear n display menu. H

Airplay works on I-tunes but not on sites where you might want to stream, such as U-tube. It does not appear on my display menu settings, but as i-tunes as the icon I am thinking the computer must have the capability. Can anyone help, how to I turn airplay on so I can stream using my apple TV. I am sure as I-tune is working I have everything set up right.

Mirroring requires OSX 10.8 or higher.
Just use the YouTube app on the ATV.

  • Need mirrored display for harddrive erase

I am trying to erase my hard drive in order to get rid of it.  My laptop screen is broken (parts are blacked out and entire screen goes black).  I have it hooked to an external monitor with that monitot being the default and the mirrored display option checked.  However, when I put in the installation disk and hit c to start the erasing process, only the Macbook monitor works.  This doesn't help me because I cannot see the options.  Any advice on how to keep the external monitor on mirrored display?   It seems to jump to extended because I can see a background but nothing else.  When I do a hard shut down and turn back on, the mirrored option is back working.  I am stumped.

In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The monitor will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it.

  • Mirror Display Option in Macbook Air

Just want to ask where I can find the "Mirror Display" option in my Macbook Air.  I can't find it in Displays under System Preferences of my Macbook Air but I can find it in my Macbook Pro.

Step 1: Connect your MacBook to your TV.
Step 2: Click on System Preferences. After connecting your MacBook to your TV, the F7 hotkey will be activated. This will allow you to activate the Mirroring Mode.
Step 3: Select Displays once the drop-down menu appears.
Step 4: Another menu pane will emerge (Display Preferences). Click on Arrangement.
Step 5: On the lower left hand corner of your MacBook’s screen, you will see a check box named Mirror Displays. Click on the check box to activate the Mirroring for all connected displays. At the center of your screen, you will see a configuration area where you can make other changes as to what will appear on the other displays connected to your MacBook.
Step 6: Mission accomplished! If all went well with the mirroring, your television screen should be mirroring your MacBook display.

  • Help Scripting "Mirror displays" and resolution

    HI there,
I work in a situation where it would be super helpful to have a script that runs at login that sets the resolution to a specific resolution and even more awesome if the script could make them "mirror displays" as well.
Any help would be so GREATLY appreciated!?!?!?!

Mirror Display means just that. It puts what's on the MacBook to the Samsung's screen including the macBook's resolution. In System Preferences>Display there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the Samsung and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetoothkeyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

  • Quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?

Is there a quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?
I have two displays on my Mac Mini for totally different areas; I can't see the first monitor when I'm on the second. One is 1280x1024, one is 1920x1200. As I switch fairly often I'm wondering if there is a built-in or 3rd-party-utility way to quickly toggle the "optimize for" setting that is under "System Preferences" -> "Displays" -> "Display" tab -> "Optimize for:" dropdown box.
As Apple sadly doesn't make a all-in-one keyboard / mouse - need one as one of the monitors is used for just a very comfy chair, so keyboard is on my lap - I'm using an Lenovo ThinkPad USB Travel Keyboard, model SK-8855, and some key cobinations, esp. with function keys, seem not to work on it. So something from the desktop context menu or that allows you to set the hotkey would be preferable.
    Thanks for any help,
    -DJBC

I'm thinking that, Display Menu from the Mac App Store will help.

  • Menubar won't redraw with yosemite mirrored displays

Anyone know why my menubar won't redraw now that I've upgraded my MacPro (Early 2008) to Yosemite?  The 10.10.1 update didn't help either.  The menu bar will stay on System Preferences (and the rest of its menu titles) when you turn-on mirrored displays.  There are 2 stock dual-display cards for a total of 4: 2 LCDs and 2 projectors.  Turning mirroring off lets the menubar work correctly.  Turning it on, as if from the Display Menu, freezes the menubar of whatever app was active at the time.  The menus themselves work properly...you just have to guess what and where the real menu titles are...so it appears to be a purely cosmetic problem.  BTW, it is not using dark mode.

BTW, I have installed all updates (to 10.10.3) and this issue is still not resolved.

  • Hotkey for Mirror Displays.

I would like to have a hotkey for Mirror Displays. Is this possible.
If I go to System Preferences, Keyboard and Mouse, Keyboard Shortcuts...I see the + button to make a new Hotkey.
System Preferences is one of the Application options to choose, however if I type Mirror Displays into the Menu Title box (Enter the exact name of the menu command) it does not seem to work.
Is this possible? Is there a different way or something I need to do to make this work?

it won't work like this. you can only assign a keyboard shortcut to an existing menu item in a menu in the left side of the menu bar. You can not make up your own commands as you did - the system won't know what to do with them.
the shortcut to mirror displays is command+F1

  • Mirror displays

    Hey everybody,
I just bought a 22 inch samsung display and I have hooked my aluminum unibody macbook to it. Everything works fine when I have the extended screen option, the resolution is beautiful. When I try the mirror display option the external becomes the same as my macbook just stretched to size. I tried changing the resolution to the same I have it on when I use the extended screen but not much is changing.
    Any ideas?

  • Function key missingMay I ask you for a solution for th for mirror displays

May I ask you for a solution for the following problem.
I have recently switched from a Powerbook G4 15 inch to a MacBook Pro 15 inch.
I often give presentations in large lecture halls where the beamer is controlled by a technician not immediately accessible. What happens is that I start up my laptop and the main screen appears on the beamer, which is not yet switched on to be seen on the big screen. All I get on my laptop is the empty secondary screen. On my Powerbook G4 there was a function key, which allowed me to immediately mirror the displays (synchronize the monitors), which instantly solved the problem and gave me control to start my presentation. The technician controlling the beamer would then start showing the beamer to the audience when my first slide had appeared.
On my MacBook Pro this function key is gone. The following situation happened: I again got the empty screen on my laptop at the lectern and the beamer was not yet shown to the public so I had no way to get command over my computer. The technician was not reachable by me and was patiently waiting for me to start my presentation which of course I could not do. This is an embarrassing situation due to the fact that the necessary function key is no longer available.
I tried to create a keyboard shortcut function to mirror the displays but I failed. I urgently need your advice.

Both Kappy and drsailer are really trying to help.
The top row (function keys) is identical on US and German keyboards (Swiss German in my case) and the F7 key has been assigned a new function in all models released after February 2008 (a tribute to gamers and leisure users ostensibly).
In analogy, the respective entries have been deleted from the help files. So it all makes sense except that this treasured function is no longer available for the few people like me using the laptop predominantly for lectures in ever changing surroundings and situations.
The situation I am talking about, is when you get to a lectern and start your computer up once you are there. Work arounds like having it in standby with the first slide mounted exist, but you have to think of it and prepare it in advance. Of course you can disconnect it from the beamer cable at the lectern and get the control back, start up the slide and connect it again. The first time you are in such a predicament you will most liekely not be cold blooded enough to think about that. Even if you are it is utterly uncool if you have to fiddle around before your presentation starts.
It is not the end of the world but it should be easy for the Apple people to write a little modification to assign a key or a combination of keys to replace the abandoned F7 function key for "mirror displays".
In fact, it is therotecially possible to assign keys to all the menu functions (mirror displays is still retained as a menu function once you activate it) but you are asked to type the exact wording of the menu function. I tried a variety of German and Englisch wordings to no avail. The wordings are different if you pull down the menu under the display ikon or if you check in system preferences under displays. Here the German system may in fact be the conundrum.
If somebody lets me know the exact English wording in these 2 places in the English system, I can check, if I missed something there in my attempts.

    Hello Victoria,
It sounds like you are connecting your MacBook Pro with your television, but you are not getting additional options for your external display.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to the internal display.  I recommend reviewing the section titled "No video or no signal, image distortion, 'snow,' or flickering" in the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • Mirrored Display. How to sleep MBP display without closing LID to keep the machine vented?

I just got my hands on a 15" MBP and I currently have a third party Display that I have connected to my Display output port. Mirrored display, and tried the clamshell mode but machine got quite hot by running in it that way. I was wondering if there is any way to keep the lid open while the mirrored mode on the external Display still runs?
Also, if there are any third party software that does give me flexibility as to which display to sleep and such, and at least have control over the display output options, that would be a gem. Appreciate it if anyone has that info?
Thanks a lot for taking time to help! Happy holiday and a great year to come for all!
    Miles of smiles,
    Jimbo

    Captfred,
I've tried what the article suggests but it only seems to work if you want to wake the computer when it is sleeping or the screen saver is on.
What I am trying to find out is how to start the computer when it is turned off without having to open it. I would imagine that there would be some key combination on the keyboard or perhaps a way to program the on/off button on the side of the Apple external display to do that.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance.
