"Mirror Displays" Problem

I just bought the new Mac Mini with 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and 256MB video memory. It´s connected to a Samsung 1080 40inch TV using mini DisplayPort to DVI to HDMI connection and a Dell 24WFP monitor using a mini DVI to DVI connection.
When I´m in extended screen mode it all works fine but when I turn on "Mirror displays" it cuts off about 20 pixels on top and below on my TV and squeezes the image into a 16:9 ratio on my 16:10 dell monitor. Mac detects both displays and sets their resolutions correctly.
If I switch and try the mini displayport for my dell monitor and the mini DVI for my TV, the TV works fine but the same 16:9 squeeze happens on the dell monitor.
I feel it has something to do with converting the Mini DisplayPort signal into DVI but that´s just a guess.
Apple sure don´t make it easy.

Hi C,
When you go to System Preferences > Displays there is no setting for Arrangement or Mirror???
Note that when you have an external display attached, there are two windows, one for the built in display and one for the external. I suppose it's possible they look like one window. Drag them apart and you should be able to see the settings.

  • Mirrored Display Problem Yosemite

    Hi All
So since Yosemite, when I connect an external monitor to my 15" MBP Retina and mirror the displays it has an unexpected effect on the machine. All works fine until you detach the monitor and reboot the macbook.
At that point, the resolution of the macbook login screen is reset to something far smaller (feels like 800x600). When you login, the desktop resolution is ok. But the login screen resolution stays effected until you reset the PRAM of the macbook. But as soon as you connect the external mirrored display again, the problem resurfaces.
I've confirmed this on the multiple machines (with different monitors)
I've not seen anything on the forums on this. Its really more of an annoyance, but its there and reproducible.
    Anyone else seen it?
    Thanks
    Ken

  • Emac 1.42 ghz external display mirroring will it solve dark display problems ?

I have an emac 1.42 ghz and the display is getting dark I have the contrast turned all the way up and the contrast turned up one notch in the universal access. When the computer is shutdown sometimes when it starts back up it is very dark almost unusable until it warms up or is running for about 20 minutes. Then it is normal. If I use an external monitor on the mini vga port with an apple adapter will it have the same darkness/display problems. I really like this computer but if the external display wont fix the problem I will need to wipe the drive while I still have a useable display

I'd say it's likely to help using a different monitor.
I think you could possibly check by doing a Screen Capture, which I believe gets it frm the graphic card, then view that capture on aniher computer, or post it here for us to view.

  • Why is netflix having display problems on my macbook pro... HDCP compliance?

Watching Netflix and all of a sudden it says "Display Problems"  Make sure your monitor is HDCP Compliant and is not setup for mirror airplay??

The issue is from Safari defaulting to HTML5 vs using Silverlight like it did in Mavericks.
So the options are, if you want to use Safari goto your Netflix account, playback preferences and turn off HTML5. This will revert to Silverlight and will AirPlay fine*in Safari.
If you want to use HTML5, just leave the setting for HTML5 on in Netflix and use Chrome, Firefox, etc.
You can't currently have both Safari and HTML5 Netflix when using AirPlay. You'd think Safari would be a little bit more powerful with Apples stances on browser extensions.

  • Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • 2012 MBP External Display Problem

I have a late 2012 MacBook Pro with a Retina Display running OS X 10.8.2
When giving a Keynote presentation with an external display, the confidence monitor (next slide, time, etc. — i.e., what should be displayed on the laptop screen) was displayed on the external LCD projector, and the full-screen slide was shown on the laptop display.  How can I reverse these? My presentation was saved by mirroring displays, but I'd like to get back to where my laptop screen displays the confidence monitor and the LCD projector displays the slide. I've been presenting talks on external displays for a decade with OS X and have never run across this problem. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Macbook to tv display problem

I have a macbook, white one, I have been using it just fine with and hdmi adapter cord. All was well until I decided to upgrade my safari browser with a free download and had to shut down the computer. when I restarted it. my tv was displaying my old screensaver without any files on it. I navigated to the displays menu and tried to line it up and look for the tv model, but the tv still just displayed the old screensaver i had before it shut down. I unplugged the tv, the mac, and took out the hdmi cord and tried a no power reboot. and when i plugged them back in, same deal, just my old screen saver.
side notes... this is a new tv magnavox 32 inch,
is it the tv? is it the cord? or is it the new safari download? is there any hidden method of fixing this, help!

    found the problem,

  • Macbook Unibody problem or Display problem?

    Hello,
I don't know if this question is specifically linked to the Macbook Pro 15", but it's the best guess.
I finally broke down and bought a Minidvi to DVI adapter so that I could hook my Macbook Pro to my older 23" cinema display. The problem that I have found is that I can't get the Cinema display to get to it's highest resolution when mirroring displays. When they aren't mirrored I can get it up to it's highest resolution. Is this a known issue that I haven't been able to find? Is there a graphics card update that I don't know about? What's funny is when you do change the resolution, the OS says you've put it in the high resolution, but when you look at the monitor, it's plain to see that you're not.
I also just tried this on my 17" 2.3GHz Macbook Pro and got the same results.
I've reset the PRAM, restart with and without the monitor hooked up.

What you're trying to do is not possible. That's the definition of "mirroring" - you get a mirror image of the notebook's display on the external monitor - down to the screen resolution. If your MBP's native resolution is 1440x900, then that's what you get on the external monitor. The only time you'll have optimal resolution on both while mirroring is if both displays have the same native resolution. The other two options you have are to span displays, or use the notebook in closed lid mode with a USB or Bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

  • MacBook Pro and Cintiq 12UX display problems?

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so I'm sorry if it isn't - this is just the only place I could think of to ask about a display problem?
I’ve just got the new model Cintiq 21UX, and I’m running it off one of the newer model MacBook Pro’s (using Apples adapter to connect the two).
Everything seems to be working fine, although on the Cintiq’s screen I get flickering green pixels in darker areas of the screen? The confusing thing is it doesn’t happen all the time, it just seems to be the one particular ‘shade’ of dark grey/dark tones it happens on - an example is if I move an image around then its the same area of colour it has problems with across the screen, or if I zoom in the effected area gets bigger etc. I can also edit the colour to a slightly different shade and the problem stops so it can’t be a dead/frozen pixel. If I turn on the mirror display option it is still only the Cintiq display that is effected.
I currently run the MacBook using the Nvidia 9600M GT, I did try switching to the 9400M but it made the situation a lot worse and caused green pixels lines to flash horizontally across the screen.
I can save the image or drag the window that the problems happening on and drag it back to the MacBooks’ screen and there is no problem with the pixels there - it’s only on the Cintiq display.
I was just wondering if this is either a fault with the Cintiq tablet itself, or possibly a problem with the MacBook?
If it’s useful the spec of the MacBook is:

    Late 2008 unibody 15.4”
Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT & 9400M
I’m not sure what other spec would be of use but if theres more I can let you know.
Any help would be appreciated, as it works fine other than this occational green flicker, and it’ll cost me a lot to send of either the Cintiq or the MacBook off for a service or replacement in the UK?
    Cheers!

It could just be bad. Do you have another computer to try it with?

  • Applescript mirrors display and resolution

    Hi,
I have many problems with Mavericks and external monitor resolution (it's a projector, in 1024x768).
I can't see the 1024x768 resolution for the external monitor (I see only 1280x... and 800x600). I need to hold ALT and click to scaled.
For this problem and others, i search a Applescript for :
active Mirrors Displays (if the checkbox is not already checked)
    set resolution 1024x768
    My computers are in Mavericks.
    It is possible?
    Thanks
PS : excuse me for my bad english

Can you share the type? Model, type etc.

    thank you

Humm... I'm not seeing that with Dual DVI monitors...?
What does your Arrangement window look like in the Display Preferences...?
You sure your not in Mirroring and using two different Spaces...? Check to make sure that Mirror Display is unchecked.
Your not running any third party Menu Bar or Dock treatments, are you...?

  • Menubar won't redraw with yosemite mirrored displays

Anyone know why my menubar won't redraw now that I've upgraded my MacPro (Early 2008) to Yosemite?  The 10.10.1 update didn't help either.  The menu bar will stay on System Preferences (and the rest of its menu titles) when you turn-on mirrored displays.  There are 2 stock dual-display cards for a total of 4: 2 LCDs and 2 projectors.  Turning mirroring off lets the menubar work correctly.  Turning it on, as if from the Display Menu, freezes the menubar of whatever app was active at the time.  The menus themselves work properly...you just have to guess what and where the real menu titles are...so it appears to be a purely cosmetic problem.  BTW, it is not using dark mode.

BTW, I have installed all updates (to 10.10.3) and this issue is still not resolved.
