Mirror image video

Is there a way to "flip" the video from an external camera. It provides a "mirror image" picture to iChat. Is it supposed to be this way? Not too important, just curious.
Dave

It appears the right way round to your Buddies.
Any words you show them will be the right way round.
Like Defcom has said you move the same way you would in a normal face to face conversation and can pint to your left and your Buddy will see you point the correct way.

  • Why does iChat video preview show a mirror image of the webcam picture?

When I open video preview in iChat on my iMac OS X 10.4.11, the video image I see from my Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 webcam is a mirror image of what the camera is pointing at(ie printed material can't be read cause it's backwards as in a mirror.)
Is this a function of iChat or of the webcam? And, can it be corrected so a true video image appears instead of the mirror image?

    Hello Oceanbeach9
iChat's picture-in-picture and Snapshot is "mirrored" by design.
We are so accustomed to seeing ourselves in the mirror that it looks strange the other way. Your Chat friends and movie clips are normal. Only the preview is mirror-image.
If you plan to post or email a snapshot image, you can change individual snapshots made with iChat by opening the file with Preview and using the Preview > Tools > Flip Horizontal menu command.
You can add iGlasses 2 software iF you really want to change your iSight's image.

  • Reflect/Mirror effect for images/video?

Hey everyone! Not sure if this has been addressed yet (did a search, could not find it)
I'm trying to do the effect that I've seen in many magazine ads and television ads where there is a logo or some graphic, on a black background, but they make it seem sleek and "reflective" because the image is mirrored horizontally. I drew a pic of something that represents what I mean. The mirror is slightly shiny/refective.
    Any tips???

    Some additional info:
    I'm using Premiere Elements 9.
Also, the mirrored image is not an EXACT reflection. The effect I'm going for has the reflection gradually fading to the back background the further it gets from the actual image (if that makes sense)

  • About to purchase my 1st imac 27in i5, what do I need to do a mirror image?

I am very close to choosing an imac over another pc but was just wondering what I would need (and where to get it), how difficult and how much it would cost around to do a mirror image of my screen onto a 32inch samsung that has a vga port, 2HDMI ports, and a DVI? I would like to do this so I can stream my netflix onto the Samsung and watch other videos as well. Also if I do this, will this produce SOUND from my TV, I'm really hoping it does?
(any encouragement on choosing the imac would be great too since I'm still on the fence about my new computer decision) Thanks!

First of all, The i5 processor is screaming fast and you need only a mini display to HDMI adapter. I just set up an i7 MacBook Pro to stream netflix and you get true 1080p output with sound from all newer machines. You just navigate to the System Preferences Icon in the dock ( looks like clock works or gears),select it and go to Displays. Check the box marked "Show displays in menu bar" so you can always switch on the fly. Also click detect displays. (You only have to do this once, after that it will remember and act appropriately.) Next, Look at the top left corner of the System preference pane and click "select all" to show the main sys. pref. window again. Now click sound and select output ( you will see an option to send audio through the HDMI connection. That's it... Oh, BTW the mirroring option appears automatically in the drop down menu from the new monitor Icon that is now on the top of your screen once a second monitor is attached and on. Don't forget to adjust the monitor itself as many new LCD HD TV's have all of the settings set to nil on the 2nd and 3rd HDMI inputs until you adjust them. I just did a brand new Sony Bravia 42" and a Philips and surprisingly found this condition on both HD TV's until I set up the brightness, contrast, etc. Also of note, I've been told by a very good Apple tech that just dragging the netflix window to the new monitor gives better performance. I can't tell the difference on my setup though... I can tell you it really is a blast to watch movies streaming from my Mac onto the "big" monitor.. Have fun.... ******* Important Update ! ******.... It seems that this particular machine has been having issues with second monitors using Mini display to DVI inputs... (mouse gets jumpy ) I have not had any issues using mini-display to HDMI adapters and inputs, but ask an in store tech before you buy .... Works fine on the MacBookPro's however ....

  • HT5517 How can have full picture using mirrored image from iPad

How can have full picture using mirrored image from iPad on my Apple TV airplay

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring won't fill the TV screen. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the iPhone 4S or prior an aspect ratio of 3:2, neither of these will fit exactly into a TV screen which as an aspect ratio of 16:9. The Apple TV will not zoom the mirrored image, because it may well cut off information which is situated at the top or bottom of the screen.
You may wish to try each of the settings in ‘Settings > Audio & Video > Adjust for AirPlay overscan’ for the best setting that suits you.

  • HT1586 I have a Updated Ipod Touch i bought a year ago, so today i bought a Apple Tv. Well from what im told i should be able to quick click the home button to find the Apple TV/Mirror Imaging. Well i see the Apple TV under the Ipod selection but no mirro

I cannot figure out why i cannot Mirror image.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4437
IPod doesn't mirror per se like iPad, but certain apps allow it.  I use filmon for instance and the mirror icon appears when the video kicks in, but other apps such as iPlayer don't allow it.  Fustrating.
Airplay does work though from iTunes.

  • Must iSight picture be a mirror image?

Doing 'Video Preview' on iChat, I held up a book to the screen, and the writing was mirror-fashion. So the camera shows me the same image that I would see in a mirror - presumably it also shows this image to anyone I'm chatting to. Up to now I thought it acted like a normal camera, so that I'd see what you see in a camera viewfinder. Can I 'flip' the picture? Can't find anything in the iChat Help or in these discussions.

    You're welcome, Graham,
... the content of the Tech Support article should be incorporated in the Help files ...
You can certainly send that iChat Feedback. That is the best way to get your good suggestions considered by Apple for inclusion in future updates.
Until then, in addition to the Help files on your Mac, many other iChat AV info sources, including these Discussions and the iChat AV Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), are available.
One of those FAQs is Apple's own iChat, iChat AV frequently asked questions (FAQ). Many common iChat AV questions are discussed there, including the tenth item, which gives the link to the Tech Support Article.
A final tip here, "Advanced Search" is my primary source of help with my Mac questions. For instance, you can also find the link you seek by clicking the "Advanced Search" link in the colored bar at the top of this page and searching for "iChat mirror image" (without the quotation marks). If you are disappointed with your search results, click the Help link to learn how improve your "Advanced Search" results.

  • IChat and Photo Booth mirror the video?

Video chatting with my parents I noticed, that their faces are mirrored, either in their video preview and on my computer. They have got an iMac 2Ghz Intel Core 2 duo and 10.5.6. Their built in camera does not take videos or photos in Photo Booth or iChat as regular cameras do, but they mirror the picture. I am now sitting at their computer, trying to solve the problem, but I could not find any settings to change this. In Photo Booth I can choose "Neue Fotos automatisch spiegeln", in english probably "automatically mirror new photos" (or something similar), but this does not help for iChat.
Has any of you have an idea?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Photobooth and iChat show the Pics as you would see them in a Mirror.
    It is not a problem.
It is the way that are designed.
The Buddy at the other end in iChat see things correctly.
The effect is something like standing in front of a Drinking establishment with a mirror behind the Bar that you can see whilst your Buddy is facing you.
Hence you make a move to indicate to your right an the mirror image follows your action on the same side. Your Buddy see things as the friend at the bar would.
It is not a "Problem" so there is no "Fix"
However the add-on iGlasess can Flip the pic if you want amongst other things it can do.

  • Photo Booth Captures Mirror Image

I love using the Photo Booth application to record quick videos and take photos. However all videos and photos taken in my Photo Booth display backwards - they are mirror images of reality. In other words, if I hold up a sign that says HELLO, in the displayed image, it reads OLLEH. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi tonyakay13: Try this: With Photo Booth running go to the Edit menu, select "Auto flip new photos". You may have to do something similar in your movie program.

  • ISight producing mirror image in all apps

Whenever I use anything that displays the video captured by the iSight camera, the image is a mirror. I cannot find anything that would permit me to configure the camera to show the image it's actually capturing. Is there a way I can do this?

    Welcome to Discussions, bjames.wi
Software controls your iSight. Many, but not all, software applications give mirror-image iSight views. Different apps work differently. Your Mac's Help in each application should give you more info on how each particular app works, but here are some suggestions for a few of the most common apps.
    (1) iChat's picture-in-picture and Snapshot is "mirrored" by design.
We are so accustomed to seeing ourselves in the mirror that it looks strange the other way. Your movie clips and the view that your chat friends' see and are normal. Only video snapshots you make and your video preview are mirror-image.
    (2) You can change individual snapshots made with either iChat or Photo Booth by opening the file with your Preview application and using the Preview > Tools > Flip Horizontal menu command.
Full-featured image editing software such as PhotoShop or PhotoShop Elements can also flip images that have already been saved.
    (3) You can change future Photo Booth snapshots with the Photo Booth > Edit > Auto Flip  New Photos menu choice.
More info is in Photo Booth > Help > Photo Booth Help. Search for Flipping a photo there.
    (4) iMovie is different. Its preview window shows images right-way-around, as is the customary view for movie cameras.
    (5) To flip saved video recordings, QuickTime Pro can do it easily. Use QT Pro's "Visual Settings" controls in the "Video Track" section of its "Movie Properties" menu command to flip, rotate, resize, and edit other properties of an already-recorded video.
If you do not have QT Pro, you can use iMovie 6 HD. Import the saved Photo Booth or iChat 4 video clip into iMovie and use iMovie's "Mirror" effect in Editing >Video FX to flip it.
The latest iMovie version, iMovie 8 (sometimes called iMovie '09 because it is part of iLife '09), can also flip already-saved video. I do not think that iMovie 7 (which was part of iLife '08) can flip videos.
    (6) If you really want to change your iSight's image, you can add iGlasses 2 software.
    (7) If you are into no-cost, imperfect, and unsophisticated work-arounds, one kludged alternative would be to position a mirror as best you can so you are making video of your image in the mirror.
    (8) If you need more info, when you post back please let us know which application gives you trouble.

  • Mirror Image and Dust

I have a digital conversion that was copied backward and inside out (don't ask!)
I know I can reverse the front to back in Premiere, but how can I 'flip' the mirror image frames?
I have been to other video editing forums and get info that it can be done using 'pan/crop tools' but no explanation as to how (or even what that is). I don't know if that exists in APE as it does in Sony Vegas. Any suggestions?
Also, the film was not cleaned before it was run (backward) for recording, so it is full of dust and debris. Is there a function to get this stuff out, like there would be in Photoshop for stills?
    Thanks
    Doug

The Effect>Horizontal Flip should take care of the reverse view of the Frame.
As for the dust, the best course of action is to clean the film, prior to the telecining operation, and is a feature of most professional telecine houses.
Otherwise, one has only two choices, and either will involve a lot of hand-work. One could Export/Share as a Film Strip (think that this option was discontinued in later PrE versions), then Import the individual Frames of the Film Strip into PS for work, Frame by Frame, in PS. This would be Rotoscoping. The other involves doing the same, without the limitation of the Film Strip format, in Adobe After Effects and its Clone Tool. Either is a Frame by Frame operation and requires a lot of time and work.
Cleaning and redoing the telecine would be my choice. Also, this should eliminate the need for the Flipping, if done right.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Is it possible to "mirror" images from my mac that was bought in 2009, but has all the updated software?

I have a macbook pro that was bought in 2009, it has been updated with mac os x 10.6.8 and I am trying to "mirror" image to apple tv 6.0.2.. Is it even possible with a older mac? If it is how do i go about doing it? Any help would be nice thanks.

    no! yet maybe
    this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
only macs which video card support a realtime encoding of the screen image into a H.264 video stream
    support airplay mirror
apple made it like that because if the video card don't support it the main cpu would have to and that could give a hit in performance and could cause lagg between the tv and the screen of the mac
but a third party program called airparrot support it that way so if one buy that program it should work how the performance would be I don't know likely the performance would be better when you laptop is connected to AC as when one is on batt only stuff are slowed down to save power.

  • What software besides iGlasses can reverse the mirror image in iChat?

I'm trying to use iChat to stream video of multiple animators and artists around the country looking at each others drawings, instructions, & messages and settings on their computer screens. The iSight cam's mirrored image produces everything backwards - eCamm.com's software, iGlasses, thankfully, reverses the mirror image making it possible for our artists to read each other's instructions. Unfortunately, the iSight cam's quality is not good enough to read the small type on their computer screens. We can use more expensive video camera's with firewire connections, but iGlasses isn't compatible. Is there any other software we can use besides iChat so we can read each others screens and data using more expensive cams and not having to read everything backwards? Probably a unique need but any help much appreciated.
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks, Bill. This is a very cool alternative that I never knew about. We'll try it out for sure. We're also trying Apple Remote Access and other VNC software to acccess the various computer screens, as hosts and clients, but so far haven't succeeded. • • Also, we need to see video streams of the artists drawing on paper while they're drawing. So we still need a high quality video conference set up for fine detail. Again, Thanks!
