Mirror iPad to AppleTV without an internet connection.

We are giving my father in law an iPad for Christmas so he can have internet access at a remote rural lakehouse.
I explained to the salesclerk at Best Buy that I heard you could mirror the iPad to a TV and asked how long of a cord could you get. He suggested that between the cost of the connector and the cost of just a 6' cord, that I'd be better off getting an Apple TV for $99 and streaming to it.
Now I understand that it can't be done without a WiFi network, which he doesn't have. Does anyone know how to get around this issue?
Can the iPad just stream directly to the Apple TV without internet and WiFi? He will mostly just be surfing the net.

You don't need internet connection, nor will you need an airport express for ONLY mirroring. The Apple TV itself creates a network if you JUST want your ipad connect to it and mirror everything on it. Only problem is, you won't have internet access while your mirroring because your wi-fi on your ipad will be connected to the Apple Tv network, even if your ipad is 3G capable. So for instance, he could download a YouTube video on 3G, wait till it fully loads and play it on the HDTV via Apple Tv. YOu won't have acess to all the content on Apple Tv that requires internet connection.
Bottom line, if he doesn't have internet access where he is, Airport express will NOT solve the internet while mirroring issue. To get that you need high speed cable internet set up with the Airport Express, then the Apple Tv can be shared on that.

Rented or purchased video are watched through the videos app after you have downloaded them, iTunes on iOS devices is for buying media only.

If you can set up your AirPrint printer's WiFi to create an Ad Hoc Network, then your iPad can connect its WiFi directly to it and be able to print.
I have the HP D110 AirPrint printer. As I recall, it was set up in Ad Hoc Network mode out of the box. I had to change the setting in order to update its firmware over the internet. You probably should do that as well, to be sure it has the latest firmware.
If you happen to have an old Apple AirPort WiFi base station, you can use its WiFi network for printing. It does not require an internet connection to print. Other brands may work as well, but some do not correctly handle the Bonjour data required by AirPrint.

Getting books on the iPad without an internet connection?

Please help. I'm in Afghanistan and I have an iPad and a MBP. I can get the MBP on the internet that is provided here, but I can't put the iPad on the internet here. I have both iBooks and the Kindle app. Is there a way that I can buy books and get them to either of these two programs from my MBP without the iPad being connected to the internet?

I believe that the Kindle app needs an internet connection as it needs to connect to amazon.com in order to download content (the books aren't stored locally in iTunes on your pc/mac) - so though you'd be able to buy books at Amazon I don't think that you then get them onto your iPad without an internet connection.
I also think that iBooks needs an internet connection in order to purchase books from the iBook store, but you can use it via iTunes on MBP to copy PDFs or non-DRM ePub books from other sources.

If you want to watch on your iPad screen, you don't even need airplay.
If you want to watch on a television screen, you need an AppleTV.
In both cases...
If the movies are purchased, there is no need for an Internet connection to the outside world. If they're rented, you need an Internet connection for the first minute or so that Apple knows that you're watching the movie. I do not know if a rented movie can be stopped and restarted without an Internet connection.

Sorry, should have been more clear. My internet speed is awesome here, about 60 gigs. Wireless is great also, sure not the 60 gigs, but not bad. I have a Time Capsule near my desk, with an Airport Extreme extending the signal to the living room. So it has a great signal.

It is also a presumption that everybody has 3.4GB of download data spare for whenever they need to download. My mobile limit is 6GB. If I am on the raod and have trouble, I cannot download even twice. It's ok at home or for anybody with large amounts of download data, but still time consuming. I love having my install discs handy at all times, and even burning a Lion DVD really messes up my nice collection of OS Install Discs! (lol on that bit)
You need to make sure you are with a reliable IP server as well.

This morning our cable modem was down and I was making some changes to a page in a Muse site I'm designing. I wanted to preview the changes in a browser, but when I clicked on the Preview button (or clicked on preview in browser), I received a notification that it was checking for an Internet connection and the preview page never completed. Is there a way to use the preview in browser function in Muse without an Internet connection?

Thanks for getting back to me! When our cable modem went down, we were still connected to Airport Base Station, and perhaps it appeared to Muse that we did have an Internet connection. In any case, we have now received a new cable modem and our network is working again. As you suggested, I disconnected from the network and tried preview in Muse again, and now it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps it was just the circumstances of our network problem this morning. Good to know I can use the Muse Preview function off-line!

I have tried using my iTunes on both and everytime i go and i try to log-in with my apple id it will not allow me to. Says my password is incorrect when i know it is correct as I just used same password to download an App... So i just decided to try and create a new apple id inside of iTunes and everytime I do it says email is already in use but I have even tried crazy things such as my birthday mixed with nicknames and date of graduation up to about 14 characters long and it keeps saying email already exists when no one in their right mind could or would create some of these... The Creative Cloud versions can be installed offline but you need an Internet connection to activate the installed applications, I also believe Adobe has recently made the Creative cloud desktop application an mandatory install. It need not be running at all times however it will be installed.

2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

In theory it should work, in reality many keep coming here stating it did not work. Things get a little muddled as location services and time-zones can cause all kinds of glitches when travelling at jet speeds.
