Mirror iPad VGA display

Good morning,
I have the need to show the display of my Ipad on an external device/display to present a demo of an application. After a quick research on the web I found that the only way to accomplish this task goes through jailbreaking the device, thus loosing the warranty.
It looks like there’s no other way but breaking the warranty, so I see two options here:
1) Jailbreak the device and install the tools I need to enable this functionality
2) Give up with this idea, thus reducing the perceived value of my software
I ask myself why Apple is behaving like this! They have the technology to allow such functionality since they already show the ipad screen on projectors during conferences, so why don’t they share what they already have in house?
Thanks in advance to everyone who’ll provide some sugegstions to help me achiving this goal.
Regards

The iPad does not support mirroring the screen to the VGA output. The units used in Apple keynotes are specially modified to allow such use. Other than using a document camera to project the iPad's screen, there's nothing we can suggest that doesn't involve jailbreaking which we cannot discuss here.
You can comment to Apple on your interest in such a feature here:

Regards.

  • How to get iPad sound while mirroring to a display monitor?

For a presentation, I'm mirroring my iPad display using wifi into an AppleTV connected to an HD display monitor. Like most monitors these days, it contains no speaker to receive the iPad's sound. Unfortunately, it appears that when you mirror, the sound emanating from the ipad's speakers and earphones is cut off, so I have no app sounds to go with my presentation.
Anyone know any way I can get sounds from the iPad apps while mirroring onto a display monitor?

Yes, RMPS, an optical-to-analog converter seems so far the only way to do this, unless one wants to pay twice as much for a speaker-equipped display monitor. It would be nice though, if Apple software would provide the choice to keep the iPad audio "on" while mirroring.
Fred*M, the VGA adapter did not work for me although I tried it. It does allow the monitor to display certain iPad pictures or movies, but it does not appear to mirror everything on the iPad screen.
I don't happen to have a Bluetooth device: does anyone know whether Bluetooth is turned off also during mirroring?
    Thanks all.

  • Possible to connect the iPad VGA accessory to a DVI display?

I have the VGA accessory. It connects to an old CRT/VGA display and looks pretty good but my current display is a LCD/DVI unit.
Is there an adapter available that can adapt from the VGA female to male DVI?
    Thanks.

Theoretically? yes... Realistically? You'll have to try to see...

  • IPad2 Mirroring via VGA Connector?

I"ve got a coworker who is trying to mirror his new iPad2 display to an LCD projector using Apple's VGA connector accessory. We've been unable to get the projector to see anything from the iPad2, and I'm wondering if mirroring is only supported when using Apple's Digital connector and connecting to a projector using an HDMI cable?
His projector doesn't have an HDMI input, so VGA is the only means of connecting the iPad2 to the projector.
Should he be able to mirror via VGA? (And by mirroring, we're referring to any app, not just those that support external displays like Keynote).

I just tried it on my iPad2, and it worked. I then went back to my coworker's iPad2, and it worked on it, too.
I can only guess the VGA connector was loose at the iPad's dock connector on his iPad2 when he tried it.

  • I want to use multiple iPads as external monitors from a PC using the iPad VGA adapter (wired)

I want to send a VGA signal to a couple of iPads using them as monitors. I currently use a pair of regular 13" VGA 1024x768 lcd monitors looping thru an LCD projector displaying the same signal sent to the projector.
I want to use the iPad VGA adapter and WIRE them in just like a convention LCD monitor. Yes there are apps like air display and others but they don't allow cloning and have latency issues and must be networked. I need an app to use the VGA adapter and actually wire them in using a VGA signal from my existing VGA distrubution amp.
The size of the iPad is perfect for my application however I cannot find an app to let me send a signal into the iPad via VGA adapter.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    the Sherm

  • Output iPad video to 27" iMac using iPad VGA adaptor?

Hi, I was wondering is it possible to Output iPad video to 27" iMac as an external monitor using iPad VGA adaptor?
    Thx.

No.  The VGA adaptor is an analog connection and the only inputs are digital Mini Display / Thunderbolt ports depending on your model.  It maybe possible with a conversion box of some sort or maybe trying an HDMI to mini display port cable ($44.95) and an iPad 2.  The 27' should be able to be used as a second display but the 21 is not.  If you have the iPad 2, pick up the cable and the HDMI adapter and try it out.  If not, return the cables within two weeks.

  • Mirror iPad to apple tv

How do I mirror iPad to apple tv

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2, iPad 3 or iPhone 4s, double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.

  • Understanding iPAD VGA adaptors

    Hi All,
I got into a very embarrasing situation where we wanted to show an ipad app to 40 participants which did not work.  I was using the apple VGA adaptor.
I tried it with iPAD1 and it did not work at all and then I tried it with an iPAD2 and it works only 2 out of 10 times.
I will need to do a roadshow where I will need to use my iPAD1 to display the app over the LCD projectors over VGA and wanted to find if there is a possibility to make it work flawlessly.  Please let me know if there are any limitations with iPAD1 and if it will flawlessly with iPAD2 or iPAD3.
    Please help.
    Thanks

The ipad1 will only show apps that are specifically designed for VGA display.
The newer iPads should show all apps through a VGA display, except for some where that capability was deliberately removed by the developer (generally media providers).

  • Mirroring with vga adaptor?

is it possible to mirror ipad 2 using a vga adaptor and a projector?

The description of the iPad 2 says it mirrors with the Digital AV cable and the VGA cable since release:
    Video mirroring.
See it here. See it there.
Video mirroring for iPad is great for every app, web page, presentation, video, movie, or photo you want to show a big audience. Just plug in the Apple Digital AV Adapter or Apple VGA Adapter (sold separately) and your HDTV or projector becomes a bigger version of your iPad. One plug, that’s it. Or you can wirelessly stream what’s on your iPad with AirPlay Mirroring and Apple TV. Everyone sees what’s on yourdisplay — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out.

  • IPad VGA Adaptor

Will the VGA adaptor display everything that you see on the iPad, onto a screen/projector? Or is it set to only display certain apps?
For example, I have CineXplayer, which I use to view Xvid and DivX clips - will I be able to play these back on my HDTV via the VGA adaptor?

Thanks for your thoughts, I new the specs when I bought it but was hoping it could up convert the video on the fly. Why is the wide screen setting in the video settings there? I guess that is for the component cable only.
Here is Apples add for it and they don't list the specs on this page which I think is very misleading, and just go look at all the unhappy customer reviews. They should make it clear on this page what the limitations are.
    Overview
Use the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to connect an iPad to your television, projector, or VGA display. Then see your videos and slideshows on the big screen.
The iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter connects to your iPad or iPad Dock via the dock connector and to your projector or display using the VGA adapter.*
    What's in the Box
    * iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter
    * Supports landscape mode only.
Quicktime videos are able to make a 16:9 video fit a 16:10 monitor without distorting the picture and filling the screen while already upconverting the video to fit a much higher resolution monitor like my 30inch apple display, so I am pretty sure they could do this with the vga adapters video output by up converting the video on output.
The ipad can play 720p video which is being downconverted on the fly to fit the ipads screen screen at 576i or 480i if your using the component video cable. This seems odd to me that the only output the ipad can do is lower res than the videos it can playback, like a computer with a video card which is what the ipad is, it should be able to upconvert but instead it down converts only. So if it can down convert on the fly it should be able to do the opposite.
The only thing the vga adapter is good for is a projector that has vga resolution. It also has the problem of the adapter slipping out of dock connection if you do not have it in just right and leave it lying flat on a table. I would hate to be doing a presentation for a large crowd having the vga adapter pop out when I go to pick up the ipad to start the next video which it does very easily unlike all the usb power cables that fit nice and snug.
As far as your Hollywood comment I find that a bit silly. I will be able to watch any purchased stuff with the new apple tv streaming from my ipad to any monitor the apple tv is connected to, but not with the lower res vga adapter....very silly indeed! That is also not stated in the add for the vga adpater. They should have a star* and say purchased videos from itunes cannot be played with this device. Most the people that bought it were hoping it could output to a wide screen tv and be able to play their purchased content. Apples add is very misleading and just go look at all the unhappy customers. They should make it clear on the add page what the limitations are including the fact that it cannot play itunes purchased videos.
I will try to sell it as soon as my apple tv comes in.

  • VGA Display Adapter; Extended Desktop?

I have a iMac G5 (iSight) and run the latest version of Mac OS X Leopard. If I buy a "VGA Display Adapter" will I be able to use my spare VGA display to extend my desktop? Or is the adapter strictly for mirroring?

Extending the desktop is disabled in firmware on an eMac, iBook, and PowerPC iMac.

  • Will IPod Touch be able to mirror it's display using the Apple TV?

During the "let's talk IPhone event" They showed a new IPhone mirroring it's display onto the apple tv using Airplay. I was wondering if you'd only be able to do this due to some new tech in the IPhone 4S or if it's available to the IPod Touch as well. Thanks for any responses.

It doesn't seem that the iPod Touch will do mirroring.
The description of iOS 5 specifically states "AirPlay Mirroring lets you share exactly what’s on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S with everyone in the room."
It seems that the A5 processor is required for mirroring, and "Siri".  At this time, only the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S have the A5 processor.
    Maybe in the future???

  • Is it possible to mirror only one display/space/desktop?

I've searched everywhere for an answer, but I just need to know if I'm "googling" the wrong combination of phrases (or if what I'm asking isn't possible).
My set-up is simple.  Macbook pro connected to a projector via VGA.  I've created another desktop (i.e. added a "space"), dubbed "Desktop 2.  Is there a way that I can have my Desktop 2 constantly being mirrored and routed to the projector, while I still work within Desktop 1?
For clarification, here's the scenario: I'm a teacher, and I want the student's "warm-up" to be showing on the projector screen from my computer's Desktop 2. While that's happening, I want to be able to be working on things like taking attendance on Desktop 1 without the students seeing (they'd still see Desktop 2's warm-up).
Thanks in advance for the good or bad news.

Thank you Mr. Bob Harris.  That would definitely work, but I failed to mention that I'd like to be able to avoid having to turn my head to look back/to the side towards the projector screen while using my computer (cursor, keyboard, etc.).  In other words, I'd like to mirror that second display so that what I'm seeing on "Desktop 2" is the same thing that's happening on the projector screen.  I know it sounds silly, but I'm a teacher who doesn't like to divert my attention away from the students in front of me (you'd be amazed at what can happen in 3-5 seconds....).

  • Display mirroring at 3 display configuration

    Hi guys,
    there is a thunderbolt iMac wiith a 2nd and a 3rd display.
If I check the mirror checkbox, I see tha same content on all the 3 displays.
    What I would like to:
1 content on the 1st display and
another, but same content on the 2nd and 3rd display. (aka mirror the 2nd display to the 3rd)
Is there any possibility to do it from software or we should use a hardware solution (splitter) ?
    Thanks,
    Peter

it is technically possible, but its just something that the app dev has to implement into the app themselves unlike the ipad2 will natively support it with all apps without needing app updates
I know this because the game Rage HD when played on a first gen ipad or even an iphone 4 already can be played on a tv when connected through a composite cable
meaning that theres an API for it in the ios sdk but devs just to actually use it
