Mirror OFF

Using MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8).
Clicking: About This Mac>More Info>Graphics/Displays - the "Mirror" status appears as OFF; status of Display Connectors is No display connected.  How do I turn "Mirror" ON?
I'm assuming it must be on to use a TV as a second monitor, connecting MiniDisplay port to HDMI.

You have been tremendously helpful, Andy, and I appreciate it.  As my user name suggests, I am close to useless when it comes to things electronic.
Hooked up with the RGB, Mirror is still OFF.  However, the default screen saver (not the one I have put on the computer) and the dock both appear on the TV; interestingly, the dock is inaccessible on the computer itself.  The cursor appears only on the TV, but using it to open documents and spreadsheets causes them to come up on the computer, not on the TV, and they cannot be manipulated without the cursor.
I will try the several things you suggest in your last message.
Thanks, again.

  • Viewing firewire external device and VGA monitor with mirroring off

My mac laptop is connected to an external monitor via the VGA port and I keep mirroring off to maximize display space. When using FCP I want to run firewire out to a professional DVcam deck for both capture, and to view the timeline on an external monitor that I see by using 'RCA monitor out' on the DVcam deck to the monitor. However, as soon as I turn mirroring off, the deck no longer sees the firewire. How can I see the firewire out and the VGA display monitor when mirroring is off. thanks

Is the ADVC powered? When you connect firewire to the back of the unit, it gets powered by that connector, but the firewire jack on the front is only 4-pin and doesn't support power.
If you have a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, try connecting it to the back of the ADVC110 and then the front of the box should light up, indicating power.
I'm having a similar issue. I can print to tape via the Canopus box, but I want to be able to drive a monitor with it just so I can have an NTSC monitor while I'm editing. I can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

  • Mirroring on / mirroring off  /  1080p projector  (FotoMagico/iMovie HD)

    Hi
I hope some of you are familliar with FotoMagico "standalone" folder, because it will help you understanding what I want to do ...
This is what I do ... I select f7 (mirroring off) ... click once only on the Fotomagico Standalone folder icon ... I am asked to select one of two display which I do ... click OK and bingo ... I get full size 1920 x 1080 image on the screen.
That procedure does not work with FotoMafico file (not standalone); neither does it work iMovie HD which is supposed to give me 1920 x 1080 resolution ie same as FotoMagico.
Has anyone gone thru the same process and can share your experiences ? I just want to project 1920 x 1080 material (PAL) with the mirroring option set to OFF, but it only work with the "Standalone" FotoMagico type file.
Thanks for any assistance or comments.

Let me restate what I think you are saying and asking, just so I am sure I understand; you are using a projector along with the MBP's built-in display so that both are running at the same time, correct? Is this part important to you, meaning do you care that both displays are running or would you be happy to have just the projector running and the MBP's lid closed and screen not running? If that would be OK with you, e.g. just the projector running, then that may be the easiest thing to do to get content displayed on the projector at 1080p full screen.
If you do care that both screens are running, does it matter to you which is the primary screen, e.g. the screen with the menu bar along the top? Because you could set the projector to be the primary screen by moving the menu bar (under the Displays preferences Arrangement tab) and I believe that would also work to have your content show on the projector at 1080p in most cases.
Let me know if any of that makes sense because maybe I am completely misunderstanding the issue.

  • Can't project iMovie HD6 with mirroring off

MBP 10.5.4, model 3.1, NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT
I want to project my HD6 iMovie HDV project via a 1080p 1920 x 1080 projector, with mirroring option set to off, so as to get full HD resolution on the screen.
I have tried all possibilities offered by Display preferences, F7 key etc... but to no avail; I can only project with the mirroring option set to ON.
Has anyone out there experienced the same problem ?
    Tks
    jc
PS I can project my FotoMagico slides show with full resolution and mirroring set to off, but can't do it with iMovie HD6.

Thank you, but it's a "no go".
Could you pls be a little more specific ? I don't know what you mean by the "menu bar icon" for instance.
When I click onto "Arrangement" on the External Display panel, I see two little blue screens apparently on the top of each other, but I can't separate them and draging my iMovie icon over such blue screen, does not do anything ie it rejects it.
I understand that some MBP have had a problem with the F7 function. Mine was bought in late 2007.
    Thanks

  • Turn off display mirroring once and for all ?

    Hi there,
I have a 13'' macbook pro, recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now every time I connect my external screen (a DELL E198WFP connected with the DVI output) the display starts in "mirroring" mode. I have to manually turn mirroring off every time. According to the documentation, MacOS is supposed to "remember" my settings the next time I connect the screen but it doesn't work. Previously I had a Macbook Air with Leopard and I had not this issue (the screen would start with mirroring turned off when I connect it). Is there any possibility to disable mirroring once and for all, as I never use this feature ? Thanks

Ok since you upgraded your system you might have a issue with your preference files for the displays. you need to Delete these two files reboot and Zap your PRAM. (Print this out)
    #1. Delete these files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver and ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver"
    #2. Turn off Computer
    #3. Reset your PRAM by:
    (From Apples instruction page)
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT201343 Airplay mirroring switched off, and still connecting. (OSX MLion,  MB-Air 13")

I tested the mirroring, it was very glitchy, but thats not my concern. My problem was switching mirroring OFF, and it reconnecting on its own while roomates watched TV. They watched me write emails, open iTunes, and then sent me images of me writing the email. Funny, but not.

Thank you so much wchp, this is brilliant. I have had this annoying problem for a long time. I eventually rang Mac support, they did not know how to fix the problem as you have suggested so they instigated many hardware replacements which eventually left my iMac severely crippled. They eventually replaced it with the latest model. But I spent two months working with a disabled computer which really interfere with my work.
Your solution appears to have solved my problem, at least so far, but I am hopeful that it is a permanent fix. I hope that your suggestions are taken up by Apple support. This may solve many users problems and avoid Apple making expensive fixes that don't actually work.
I thought that the new iMac would not have the 'Wake up from sleep by painting in the login window' problem but it did, this really annoyed me. Anyway now the problem appears to be solved, it's not I will repost and keep working on it. Thanks again.

  • Turn off Mirroring sends Keynote to the Video Display

This has never happened before . . . I turn on mirroring for my presentation. The last part of the presentation, I turn off mirroring. When I do, the keynote screen is thrown over to the video display as opposed to the computer display. Why is this now happening? Is it a preference that needs to be changed?

I've been trying to resolve this issue for the past few weeks with no luck. Using Leopard, with the latest version of Keynote, is anyone able to start a presentation with mirroring off (the laptop displaying current slide and the next slide), stop the presentation, switch to mirroring on, start presentation, advance a few slides, stop the presentation, switch to mirroring off . . . and then see the Keynote window on one's laptop and not thrown off the laptop screen over to the secondary video screen?

  • Turning off video mirroring

I have an imac G5, and I just got an apple video adapter so that I can watch DVDs and Quicktime movies and such on my old TV via the composite video connector. Works great, except that when I plug the connector in, my imac automatically reduces the resolution on it's own screen to match the TV. I understand the reason for this, but it seems like a bad solution to have to unplug the adapter every time I want to use my imac and plug it in every time I want to watch a movie. Is there any way to leave the connector in, but turn video mirroring off? (I've checked the monitors control panel, but no dice)
    Thanks
    Plandis

Sys prefs. click the display button.
    Select detect displays/tv's etc.
Then after going off and on again there should be a option for arrangement as this is where the mirror displays is.
This then also opens a window on the Tv as well as the standard on on your Apple.
I know for the Pbook you press function "fn" + F7 as this adjusts mirroring.

  • Is it possible to turn off imac display while mirrored display plays video?

I've set up a new 21.5" imac for my parents use in their living room and have connected their 52" lcd tv to the imac as a mirrored display.
One issue that i can't find a solution to is to find a way to turn OFF the imac display when they're watching content on the lcd tv. If they want to watch a film from the imac out to the LCD TV, they want to dim the lights and watch it, but the imac display being on in the dark room is distracting.
Is their any way (3rd party software??) to turn off the imac display while still being able to have the mirrored display running?

You should actually NOT use mirroring, although it would work OK on the 21.5-inch iMac because the screen resolution is identical to 1080p HDTV.
In System Preferences Displays pane Arrangement tab, turn mirroring OFF. This makes the HDTV screen extend the iMac's Desktop. In the diagram on that pane, it shows how the two screen arranged. The edge where they touch is where you can move your mouse cursor from one screen to the other. You can move the two screen around in the diagram, to match how the iMac and HDTV are located in the real world.
In System Preferences Displays pane Display tab, there will be a window for each screen. The 21.5-inch iMac's screen should be set to 1920x1080. The HDTV's screen should be set to 1920x1080 also, if it is a "1080p" HDTV.
To watch video content on the HDTV, first show the video playing in a window. Drag the window to the HDTV screen so that it is completely on that screen. Give the full screen command (usually Command-F). The video will play in full screen mode on the HDTV screen. In most video playing applications, such as DVD Player, QuickTime Player, iTunes, etc., the other screen (the iMac's screen in this case) will go black. It's not OFF, but it will display black.
Note: Some video playing apps have a preference setting for which screen gets the full screen. When playing video content in a browser window (such as YouTube or Hulu), when you go to full screen mode by clicking the +full screen+ button, the other screen will not go black.
As far as I know, there is no way to turn off the iMac display, even with mirroring turned OFF.

  • When should mirroring turn itself off?

I have the latest aTV, and an iPad2, both running latest software.
When I turn on Mirroring on the iPad, it does as expected, and iPad screen is mirrored on TV.
At what point should mirroring stop if at all?
e.g. When I use the aTV remote's 'menu' button, mirroring and Airplay are reset on the IPad, is this normal behaviour? There seems to be a distinct lack of instructions on how to use the aTV, or is it me?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring will stop when one of the following 3 scenarios occurs.
You start operating the Apple TV from the Apple TV.
You turn mirroring off on the iPad.
Some other device starts an AirPlay stream.

  • Mirroring with apple TV

I'm having trouble mirroring my iWork, (keynote presentations)  with appleTV.  When I click on the mirror button and then choose to mirror the display.  The slider moves and then 2-5 seconds later it resets to Mirror Off and the display never does mirror my pad.  Sometimes I can get the mirror to work, but only after rebooting the iPad.  Any thoughts?

Well that's the issue my friend. I called apple and told them what I wanted to do. They told me to get those things. So ... I called abck and double checked. I asked a different person the same scenario. Same ereply. So yes I did order apple tv and airpolay. As stated it doesn't work. The image is WAY smaller than the screen and it's not scaleable at all.
I don't understand what the praying jab is about. Praying was never mentioned in the issue here was it?
Back to the issue: it's not that I didn't realize this technology isn't here I was told it was by two different techs. So when I called back to explain my problem I was bounced around apple to several departments to find the technology simply wasn't here yet as I was told. I was informed incorrectly. So appple let me return the products. The customer service person apologized and I certainly accepted.
So the issue has nothing to do with praying etc. it's simply that for some reason, using your ipad for a demo only nets you 40% of the screen size and scaling is not an option.
Wish I knew that before I placed the order as that was not how it was explained either time I called in.
Now, let's have some techs start working on this issue... else I'm about to start praying... ;-)
