Mirrored pics (continued)

This mirroring problem also comes with video mode in Photo Booth. In addition, no sound is recorded. My iSight webcam does not pick up sound in iMovieHD either. Wrong camera??

Finder menu > "Go" > applications > Photo Booth
Select "folder above" in the drop down menu, repeat till there is no "folder above" left.
Click on the Photo Booth video.
Photo Booth needs to be the front application for audio playback.
We'll get to the mirrored image when your sounds playing.
iMovie needs the input level for the mic active as well.

    Hi,
got a problem. My stills taken with external iSight webcam in Photo Booth application are always mirrored (right side is left and vice versa) even though no effects are turned on. How to make pictures look right (real)? Can you solve this?

  • Can you block the onscreen keyboard of iphone while using airplay mirroring with apple tv?

i would like to use airplay mirroring for presentations but when logining into say youtube or email i do not want my keyboard being replicated on the big screen. Is there an option just to mirror everything except the keyboard?

mirroring size if perfect, i want to block out the on screen keyboard when loggin into something or any typing what so ever. This would be more for privacy when doing extended presentations where i would not like to go in, shut the mirroring off type my password into xxxx and then reapply mirroring to continue on with my display.

  • Restore database that has mirroring enabled

I apologize, as I'm the default SQL person now and my skill level is pretty much limited to running queries. SQL 2008 R2
We have a Test database that is mirrored and has severely outdated data. I'd like to copy the data in from a recent back up of our Production environment.
I understand I need to break mirroring first by going to the database > tasks > mirror > mirroring > hit "remove mirroring" button.
Then I can do a normal restore, correct? (Databases > Tasks > Restore). On the options page I should select "NORECOVERY".
Then what? I will need to restore the mirroring. Do I just go to database > tasks > mirror > mirroring and uncheck "remove mirroring"?
Any pitfalls I should be aware of?

    Hi ,
According to your description, when you manually stop a database mirroring session via removing database mirroring, To continue mirroring after stopping a session, you must establish a new database mirroring session. For more information, see:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms180801.aspx
In addition, we need to verify which database you want to do a normal restore. After removing database mirroring, the database in Principal server will become a normal database, you can do a normal restore. The database in Mirroring server will stay in recoverying.
You  need to restore it with recovery for becoming a normal database.
Restore database <Mirroring database name> with recovery

  • When I take pictures with my iPod 4th gen it will flip my pictures right away, as if it's a mirror. How can I fix this?

Okay, so my iPod 4th gen has been acting up. Everytime I take a picture while facing the camera, it flips my picture. So if I take a picture of my right side, it'll show my left side. It's very annoying and I can only take mirror pics >.< someone please help me!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhoto/ATV Slide Show Sync

What do I need to do to have ATV coordinate music and pics as they are on the original iPhoto slideshow?
I created a slideshow with music in iPhoto 08. I synced to my ATV but when it is played, the music does not "fit slideshow to music" the way it does on iPhoto playback. In fact, none of the settings besides the choice of music and pics seems to carry over. I have removed and re-synced the show but pics continue to change much faster, then are repeated until music selection ends.

    Steve Thompson wrote:

Although well intended, I fear you've been misinformed.
    Please explain this.
What you must realise is that you are no longer syncing a photo to atv,
you're syncing a movie (slideshow) and as such that has to sync from iTunes.
One can always export a slide show as a movie, that is correct, but it isn't the only option and wasn't what the OP was asking about. One can indeed sync slideshows from iphoto (not itunes) without having to export as a movie.

  • HT204291 When viewing a slideshow i can't get portrait pcs to appear vertical.

When viewing a slideshow on apple tv my portrait oriented pictures show up landscape on tv. This does not happen when viewing on ipad where they rotate to correct orientation. If mirroring pic one at a time they are also fine. Problem only happens when using slideshow. Does anyone know if i have missed a setting and how i can correct?

I have the same problem. Did you get an answer from anyone?

  • Updating Oracle VM Manager from 3.1.1 to 3.2.1 where server is yum repo

I have a server running Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3. Upon which is running Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 ("BUILDID=3.1.1.305" from /u01/app/oracle/ovm-manager-3/.config).
This server is also my Oracle Enterprise Linux yum repo. This means its subscribed channels are (on ULN):
    - Latest Unbreakable Enterprise Linux Kernel for Oracle Linux (x86_64)
    - Oracle Linux 6 Add ons (x86_64)
    - Oracle Linus 6 Latest (x86_64)
    - Oracle VM 3 latest
    - Oracle VM 3.2.1 Server Patches
Note that the last one was "Oracle VM 3.1.1 Server Patches" until this attempt to update. The "Yum Server" button is also ticked on ULN and I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/yum-repo-setup-1659167.html.
Now, when I attempt a "yum update" on this server I get the following:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va nofiles nodigest
Can someone please explain what mistakes I've made so I can get this box updated (both OS and Oracle VM Manager), please? Do I simply need to exclude some channels for the duration of the update of the local box, then add them back in for the repo mirroring to continue working?
    With thanks,
    Ben

It appears that for the most part the package ovs-release is the problem. To judge from the first half of a failed yum update. Why isn't there an ovs-release package that references el6 packages? Really, did I make a mistake installing Oracle VM Manager on OL6 given that http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleVM/OVM3/latest/x86_64/ contains only "el5"-tagged packages?

  • ArchLinux Newsletter for February 22

Greetings, and welcome to the ArchLinux weekly newsletter for the week ending February 22, 2004.
    Front Page News:
    NEW KERNELS ABOUND
    Hi all,
First off, a huge thank-you to everyone that has donated over the last couple of days. We now have enough of a start to pay setup fees and the first couple months on a new server. You guys rock.
Now, an update regarding the new kernels... We're planning on using 2.6.3 as the default kernel for Widget's release, so I've renamed the 2.4 kernel packages for more consistency. We now have four kernel packages:
        * kernel24
        * kernel24-scsi
        * kernel26
        * kernel26-scsi
As you know, the kernel26 packages write their bzImages as /boot/vmlinuz26 so that they can coexist with a 2.4 kernel. I've left the kernel 2.4 bzImage as /boot/vmlinuz for now, to avoid breaking too many users' boxes. But keep in mind that I may rename them to /boot/vmlinuz24 sometime in the future. Watch out!
Another effect of the package renames is that the setup script had to be updated. This means that you will have to re-download the root.img disk image to do an ftp-based install. The old one will look for the 'kernel' package, which no longer exists.

    FUN WITH BANDWIDTH COSTS
As most of you know, the recent review on OSNews has brought a large influx of users to us. While we're overjoyed to have so many new users, the bandwidth costs associated with all these new --sysupgrade'ers is going to cost me a lot of money that I don't really have.
To curb the trend, I've had to cap transfer speeds on ftp.archlinux.org. They now sit at 20 K/s with a max of 30 users at a time.
So, long story short, I have a couple of favors to ask:
       1. If you can volunteer to be a mirror, please contact me.
       2. Please download this perl script, which will use the "netselect" program to re-sort the server lists in pacman.conf, lowest ping times first. You can run it like so:
              # ./sortmirrors.pl </etc/pacman.conf >pacman.conf.new
Make sure pacman.conf.new looks okay, then move it into place:
              # mv pacman.conf.new /etc/pacman.conf
       3. If you can spare a few bucks for a bandwidth-hungry distribution, please donate. We're looking to get another server, but the donations just aren't there yet.
Thanks a lot everyone. We'll keep on making it if you keep on running it.
Editor's Note: The perl script now comes with the new version of pacman, and the download cap has been lifted.

    This Week on the Forum:
Rasat made a request that we try to clean up the forums to make it easier to read. One idea was to put [RMx] for remove, [MVx] for move or [FXx] for fixed / resolved, in our topic titles. Read about it here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=2773
Neocephas wrote a CUPS HOW-TO for Arch. It's still being worked on, so go help out over here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=2757
This Week on the Mailing List:
After the announcement by Judd about the bandwidth troubles, people raised some ideas for saving bandwidth. One was randomizing mirrors automatically via pacman. Another was to take the Full 0.5 ISO off of the main ftp site, because it's out of date anyway. Neither of these have been implemented yet, but discussion is still ongoing. Read the threads at:
    http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 00844.html
    http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 00853.html
The idea was brought up again about multiple flavors of kernels. DanG also asked if multiple 2.4 or 2.6 kernel packages could "live together". The answer was no. A 2.4 and 2.6 kernel can co-exist though. Judd stated that there were no plans for different flavors of kernels (like "failsafe") and instead people should be building their own. Read the thread at: http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 00872.html
What's happening with the TUR mailing list:
We're currently looking to assimilate a couple more Trusted Users to run their own repository and help test packages from /incoming. The system now requires sponsorship. So if you have submitted a lot of packages to /incoming that have made their way into the repositories, the TUs will be willing to sponsor you. If you are interested, join and mail the TUR Mailing list: https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/tur-users
This Week in Dev Land (by Jason Chu):
Manolis Tzanidakis (zen_guerilla) left the development team.  He has decided to work on his own personal distro and won't have time for both.  We wish him well.
Tobias Kieslich (neri) and Damir Perisa (dp) have joined the dev team.  They've started adopting packages and are still learning how everything works.  They are a welcome addition to the dev team.
We now have a new package server.  All the regular traffic goes to the original server but ftp.archlinux.org is now on a different one.  This one has a higher limit on bandwidth but if you use a mirror please continue doing so.
We are debating if/how to add f77 and gcj compilers to gcc.  The best suggestion is to have seperate packages that depend on gcc but gcc is a scary package so it's still being researched.
The gcc question brought up another: should we implement multiple packages per PKGBUILD file?  It was agreed that a single package per PKGBUILD is much simpler and more like the arch way.  At the same time, we still have some issues to work through because of this simple method.
There are new disk images on ftp.archlinux.org.  They're more modular and have support for keymaps, xfs/jfs support, and raid/lvm.  The setup scripts don't support all of these new features but the advanced user will be able to use them.  There will also be an expert install script to support these features.
Xfree86 licensing is still being researched.  An interesting link was found: http://www.xfree86.org/legal/licenses.html
An 0.6-base-BETA1 was released.  It's available on the archlinux ftp server.  Feel free to test it.
An Archlinux goal/philosophy/social contract document was mentioned.  Judd said he was thinking about this already and we will probably start one soon.
A number of packages were found to be missing urls and md5sums.  Namcap will detect this and spit out an error.  If anyone finds PKGBUILDs with these missing, they can submit a bug report for that package.
    Package Highlights:
Updated init scripts were released this week. They provide a more cleaned up boot process.
reiserfsprogs 3.6.13 was released this week. This fixes a bug that can prevent a ReiserFS partition from booting. Read about it here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=2614
GCC, Coreutils, the kernel and some other core packages were updated this week. These types of upgrades can be risky sometimes, so be sure to submit any problems you have to the Bug Tracker.
Pacman 2.7.4 was released this week. Changes are:
            - fixed a bug in conflict handling, where installing a conflicting package would fail even if the new package "provided" it
            - if pacman sees a newer version of itself during an upgrade, it will ask to install itself first, then be re-run to upgrade the other packages.
            - You can now use the --info option with --sync to display an uninstalled package's dependency info.
            - Added a sane umask before db writes
            - buffer overflow fix (bug #442)
    FAQ of The Week:

  • Arch approach to security

The recent kernel bug brought some forum posts because the distrowatch error about Arch. Distrowatch was wrong but there are some things that might keep security conscious people away from Arch:
    - change logs. For example php 5.2.5-4 was released a few days ago. Why? Is there a critical bug-fix, so I should upgrade as soon as possible, or can I wait until my regular update schedule? (Otherwise php is a great package in arch, thanks Pierre)
    - some packages are quickly updated, some not. See http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8613 from 2007-11-20 to 2008-02-11 to apply some simple patches. Even 2007-11-20 was quite late. Is someone looking on others distros security changelogs or security sites to see what is happening around?
    - the arch way, as vanilla as possible, config files as default as possible is not always the best approach. The denyhosts problem, the xorg default config listening on the net are two examples fixed as result of users requests, great, but they where obvious... One of the reasons php is great for me is because it is not quite the arch way, it is patched (Suhosin)
    - since when is iptables 1.4.0 out? 2007-12-22. Not crucial, but again this raises the question "how much does Arch care about security?"
Not to mention Fedora/RedHat/Gentoo/OpenBSD (at least) usage of hardening gcc switches for theirs packages. These switches are in vanilla gcc since 2005. Fedora/RedHat also uses the vanilla kernel's selinux.

Pudge wrote:If you want to discuss how fast important security fixes are made available, then you must take into account the reliability of our mirror sites.  Especially when Arch Linux scolds you for using the Arch Linux mirror.  At this point, Arch cannot afford the bandwidth for everyone to get their updates from the Arch server.  Arch depends on the mirrors to continue to operate.  If you want to question the Arch approach to security, then you need to back it up with donations that will allow Arch to afford the bandwidth necessary for the only mirror they have control over.
As guilty of writing some comments at DW you're free to through stones at me! Why do I do it? I don't know. Maybe too many tea time breaks. DW's comment section is a mine field so I probably do best in ignoring it.
Anyway, the synchronisation of mirrors can be an issue with many other distributions as well, even though their budget is bigger and maybe have corporation support. So would more money necessarily make all mirrors working faster?
The mirrors I use for Arch here in Sweden tend to be some few hours behind, but not more. I have no insight in how this is working, hence I'm asking since some mirrors obviously are quickly updated and as you say Pudge some are slower.
Another thought: even though wasting my time writing those comments at DW's, I at least think it contributed to that Ladislav explained his view on the topic. For him the main question is obviously not about whether updates are done or not in due time, but more about, as he says, whether a distribution conforms to the "real UNIX security infrastructure", and his understanding of this term is rigid. On the other hand I don't see any signs of Arch folks being overly interested in getting DW to advertise Arch, and why be? I'm confident that Arch will continue to develop positively, not that I can boost about being a long time Arch user, and details like this might eventually change or fall into its places as time goes by, thanks to its active developers and community.

  • Site level failover

    scenario:
2 datacenter with good connectivity. SQL 2012 principal and witness servers are placed in main site and mirroring server is place in DR site. high-safety mode with auto failover proposed.
customer is asking what about the main site down? can force mirroring server continue to support the application (RMS2012) in DR site?
    Jason

and what about after manually failover and then main site is up? there would be 2 principal sql servers.
    Jason
When you do manual failover you run below commands to break mirroring. This will break mirroring and make Mirror online so now you dont have two principal as you dont have mirroring in place.
ALTER DATABASE DB_NAME SET PARTNER OFF
    GO
    RESTORE DATABASE DB_NAME WITH RECOVERYGO
Now when Previous principal comes online ( may be after couple of  hrs ) you reconfigure mirroring making original principal as mirror by taking backup from current server which is running( the mirror which is now running as principal failed )
and restoring it on previous principal with norecovery and configure mirroring . Then do failover to make it principal( previous principal as principal)

  • Airplay in Mavericks

I have the following Macbook Pro:

      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB

      SMC Version (system):          1.16f11
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled
I just updated to OS X Mavericks.  The Welcome to Mavericks Tutorial mentions Airplay on the right side of the menu bar.  I can't find where to enable/setup Airplay.  I have Apple TV 2, which Airplays with all of my iOS devices, however, the Airplay Icon doesn't show up in the menu bar.  What do I need to do?
    Thanks

I think AirParrot will solve the problem with a few cavets. First off I succesfully tested it last night using a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2009 running 10.9 aka Mavericks
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.53 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M:
      Chipset Model:          NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
    My Question to AirParrot:
I was able to stream YouTube on my desktop without any issues despite using a machine that AirParrot listed as being one of the older models which may experience problems. I wrote to AirParrot and they were kind enough to explain in more detail the "problems" which might be experienced.
    NOTE Airparrot Specs.
    AirParrot response:
I'm happy to shed some light on this issue.
Certain Apple video drivers conflict with any installed third-party video drivers causing issues like logging out, randomly activating screen savers and drag-and-drop issues. Unfortunately, we're unable to fix the conflict. The fix must be made to Apple's provided display drivers.
Removing our display driver will allow you to continue to use AirParrot without issue. However, the ability to extend the desktop will be lost. Regular AirParrot features such as mirroring will continue to work properly.
All I can say is, as of today, I have not experienced any known conflicts with the AirParrot driver. I plan to drop the $9 for AirParrot to help solve the AirPlay issue with Mavericks and pre-2011 Macs.
I did use the Mavericks AirPlay to AppleTV from my iPad mini and it worked seemlessly - which only made me more frustrated by the Pre-2011 hardware/Airplay/Mavericks issue. It seems that a driver fix is the only thing holding us back from not having to use a third-party application to solve the problem. I could be wrong but it is annoying.
    Hope this helps.

  • Iomega UltraMax Hard Drive 33991

I am thinking of getting this external drive that supports FW 400 and 800. My iMac only supports 400, but I thought that in the future I may get a new mac that supports 800. Anyway, had anyone used this drive? Any comments? Good and/or bad?
    Thanks.

I purchased one before Christmas. I've had some problems that you can avoid, should you purchase it. I got the unit and followed the instructions for creating a Mirrored partition. Their instructions, stink. I ended up sending the first unit back for a replacement. Although I now realize there most likely wasn't anything wrong with the unit, it's a problem with their instructions and tech support people. To format the drive you need to format on a machine running 10.4(second tech guy I chatted with alerted me that this was the issue). If you don't have 10.4, read below I found a workaround using the 10.4 installer disk.
I was finally able to get the Mirrored RAID 1 working. My only concern is knowing the data is truly mirroring. Anybody know how to check this?
As for the setup: What they don't tell you is that there is a problem with the unit communicating with your computer if you are running 10.5.x
It's not that your computer won't see the drive, it's that Disk Utility will not allow you to format it. You will most likely get an input/output error when you try and format it.
Here's what you have to do.
    1) Find a machine running 10.4 OR if you have your Tiger disc, put it in and start the installation.
Allow the machine to restart as if you are going to install 10.4 (you're not). Right after it asks you what language, go to the menu at the top of the screen (can't remember what heading it's under) and look for Disk Utility.
    2) Make sure your DIP switches are how they were when you opened the drive. They ship the unit as one big hard drive, instead of a Mirrored one.
    3) In Disk Utility, select Partition
    4) Choose 1 Partition and then Format/Apply.
    5) If you want one big-*** drive, you're done. If you want a mirrored RAID, continue
    6) For a Mirrored drive, power down the Iomega unit. Flip the third DIP switch on the back to the UP position.
    7) Get a paper clip and restart the unit.
    8) There is a small hole next to the DIP switch. Once the unit is powered up, stick the paperclip in there to reset the unit for Mirrored RAID. Hold it in there for at least 3-5 seconds. Then, power down the unit again.
    9) Power up the unit and go back into Disk Utility via the Tiger installer disc. You should now see the Iomega unit as having half the space it once did.
    10) Follow directions 3 & 4 again. This formats the drive and you should be ready to go.
I did some experiments after doing this and pulled out the drives leaving one in and restarting the unit. Each time I did, the drive mounted with the same exact name I chose for it. That told me that both drives were identical.
My only real issue now is somehow confirming that the data I put on this 750GB is truly being mirrored. Unfortunately, Iomega's help desk is only open 9am-9pm EST M-F. So I have to wait till Monday.
Anybody know how I can test this? If I yank out one of the hot swappable drives, the unit just disappears on my desktop. The other drive doesn't automatically show up like I expected.
