Mirroring Option with AppleTV and iMac

I am interested in the mirroring option with the AppleTV. From what I have read, only the newer macs have the capability to stream to a TV using AppleTV. My iMac is a mid 2011 but is only running on Lion 10.7.3. If I were to upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion (10.8.5 I think) will my computer be capable for the mirroring option?
I do not have an AppleTV yet so I cannot test it out myself. I want to make sure I can utilize the mirroring option with my computer before I purchase.

The latest Mountain Lion version is 10.8.4 but yes , you should be fine.

Connect AppleTV and iMac to same pair of speakers

Hi all,
I have an AppleTV which I would like to use to AirPlay audio over from my iDevice to a pair of wired speakers.
i have an iMac that's currently connected to this pair of speakers.
Is there any inexpensive way I can use the AppleTV and iMac to play audio through the same pair of wired speakers? Thank u!

You can only output from Apple TV to connected speakers or ones that are airplay capable. Connecting speakers to an Airport Express will make non-enabled speakers airplay compatible.
You can output from a Mac to multiple speakers using airplay.

In the Share popup select Add Destionation to go to the Destination preference. Drag still image to the sidebar to make it available in the popup.

Syncing problem with AppleTV and HP w/ Windows Vista

I have been trying to sync my Apple TV with iTunes and keep getting the error:
The Apple TV "Downstairs Apple TV" is not responding.
Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.
I have done the obvious. I have checked the firewall software on my computer and have manually set the port as open and apparently when iTunes installs it also puts port information into the Windows Firewall. I have performed a factory reset on the Apple TV, reinstalled iTunes, checked my router and still it's a 'no go'.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Check your router for port forward/NAT rules that may involve ports 5353 and 3689, check that you haven't got the tv isolated at the router also.
Security software and file sharing applications may also be interfering with these ports take a look at any software on your PC that might be doing this.

Calendar entries on my iPad do not sync with iPhone and iMac

Calendar entries made on my iPad do not show up on iPhone or iMac. However, entries my on my phone and iMac do appear on the iPad calendar. Is this normal?

Check out the article below to troubleshoot issues with syncing calendars across multiple devices. Check on your iPad to see what the default calendar is. You may want to turn off calendar syncing, keep the data, then turn it back on to start up the syncing process again.

Working with powerbook and imac TOGETHER ??!

Is it somehow possible to use my powerbook as a keyboard for the imac (i like the powerbook a lot more for typing)
or is it even possible to connect powerbook and imac in that way that i can type at the powerbook, use the imac as computer and having BOTH screens available as one big screen?
any suggestions or just impossible??

I guess nothing is impossible as long as you have the skills to take apart a PB and do A LOT of modifications. Well, I don't, you I'll focus on the real world options..
1. The only way would be to create a network and use VLC, which is taking control of your iMac remotely via your powerbook. You can use the build in Apple Remote Desktop client (well, actually it's a server, since it's providing the information) and a VLC viewer like Chicken of the VLC (search www.versiontracker.com). I would work, no doubt about that, yet it would be overkill if you asked me.
2. You mean having both screens work as one big screen? No way. You'd have to get an external display. PBs officially support a dual monitor set up. In iMacs it's disabled for marketing reasons (Apple wants to distinguish between avar. user and pros). You can enable it using "screen spanning doctor". It will work, yet you might loose your warranty for doing unsupported modifications.

My AppleTV used to work great with my airport extreme, serving content from my desktop, albeit I had to wake the desktop before access if it was asleep. I've "upgraded" to a time capsule, and now life is a ******* misery. Apologies for the language, but it feels like I'm using windows kit. The appleTV loses the sync with the desktop at least once every three days, and the only way out is to delete the one sync, and resync with the exact same computer. How ******* ******** is that? Before I spent hundreds on upgrading to the time capsule, I used to show off my set up to my windows suffering friends. Now i just hang my head in shame at the box of **** i've got sitting next to my computer. Anyone found a way to maintain contact between an AppleTV and a time capsule?

A Time Capsule is just an AirPort Extreme with an internal network hard drive added, the router portion is the same. If you still have the AirPort Extreme, export its settings to your computer and then import the settings file into the Time Capsule and see if that helps.

My iPhone won't sync pictures with iPad and iMac

I have an Imac, an iPad (18 months) and an iphone 4S (2months). All are set up identically with syncing photoes. The Ipad and iMac sync fine, but any pictures I take with the iphone will not sync automatically. Photo stream and sharing is set up on all of them. My husbands iphone is 2 1/2 years old and we have the same problem with that. I am an artist therefore have become dependent on the syncing. Can anyone help

Hei Alfred, I set them all up to do the same thing in settings. Ie, using the same icloud account, switching on the icloud account for photos, my photo stream is on, so is photo sharing. The imac and ipad have functioned well all the time. The iphone is newer. I made sure that the iphone had the same settings for photos as the ipad, but no photos have ever gone automatically into icloud from the iphone. I have always had to do it manually. It is the same with my husbands phone and he has had it much longer. He isn't so computer literate, but I'm beginning to doubt myself now!

Problems with Superdrive (with MacBook and iMac)

the superdrives in Macs are very picky. I got a MacBook (white, 10.5.7) and an iMac (24" white, 10.5.7). Both of them do not run most of optical media (Verbatim, Maxell ... I tried many brands).
In the meantime I am unable to burn CDs/DVDs with both of my Macs. With Toast it works seldom but sometimes. With iTunes and Finder it is not possible anymore. The error is:
"The attempt to burn a disc has failed..."
I searched the web and this problem is well known in the communities. But there is no fix for it. At least I did not find any.
What can I do to fix my superdrives? I burnt less than 50 CD-Rs with the drive and it is not working anymore. Seems to be a bad deal.
Any ideas? Thank you!

Well, the lens cleaner helped exactly nothing (manufacturer: hama). The problem is unsolved. Just tried to burn a CD with Toast on my 24" iMac. It worked with good luck this time. But It ried to burn a CD with Waveburner and iTunes with no succes. I used Verbatim CD-Rs. The drive spins up and down and you can hear some noise like the label of the CD gets scratched by the recorder.
This is very frustrating. The same is with my MacBook. But the MacBook does even not accepted the lens cleaning CD. The drive is completely useless at this time.
Any hints out there?

Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
So, where is the problem??
I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.

Anyone else having issues with AppleTV and 10.7

My AppleTV is continuously breaking connections when watching movies since I'ne downloaded 10.7.
I have to go back in to the setup and renew the computer connection to correct it. Sometimes
it holds for 30 minutes and other times it breaks the connection a couple of minutes.
I did not have this issue before loading 10.7.

An additional comment...... this problem is only happening when connected to my computer through iTunes. I can paly Netflix movies fine. It happens with both movies I have purchased on iTunes and movies I have downloaded onto iTunes from my DVD's

Trouble with AppleTV and older TV

I got my parents a 3rd gen AppleTV for there "older" tv that has an HDMI connection. I can get the AppleTV to display, but after the TV is switched to regular TV and back to HDMI the AppleTV will no display anymore without being unplugged and reconnected. I am assuming it is their HDMI port since the AppleTV works fine on my TV with the same cable.
I was going to bring them my first gen AppleTV, which should work for their needs.
Any thoughts on a second gen model working because resolution was lower on that model? or is it just a messed up port?

could be that the tv don't follow the hdmi std 100%
could be that it have trouble supporting the res you set the appletv to be in like if it's only hd ready and you set it to full hd and it downscale the signal

Recording a live piano performance with GB and iMac internal mic

I am a complete novice with GB. My iMac sits six feet away from my piano, and in a few days my piano teacher will play a concert on it. I am into digital photography, but have no video recording equipment. Can I record this performance using GB and my iMac internal mic, and, if so, how? I would understand completely if you refer me to an article or other secondary source where this is covered.

You will certainly benefit from the mic upgrade. Be aware that most "studio mics" require a microphone preamplifier to bring the level up to something that your computer will be able to see (as well as to provide power if the mic requires it). If the connector is the type that looks like a headphone plug which will fit in your computer input, you are probably ok.
The recording quality will normally be determined by the format and settings instead of the application you are using to record. Stick to 16 (or 24) bit, stereo .aif files and you should be fine. The standard for CD recording is 44.1kHz.

How do I sync my aol outgoing email on my ipad 3 and iphone 5 with my iMac outgoing aol mail. If I send a email with my ipad I can notsee it on my Imac 10.8.4

Not a direct answer to your question, but my workaround was to get an email address which is only on my computer and CC myself.
