Mismatch between the Content Database size and the total of each site collection' storage used.

Hi All,
Environment: SharePoint 2010 with SP2.
Issue: One of the Content databases size in our farm shows 200 GB as used. There are 25 site collections in the DB and we counted
the total storage used of all site collections in that Content DB and is not more than 40 GB. (used "enumsites" command and counted the each sitecollections storage used).
What actions/troubleshooting were done?
Ran one script which will find the actual size of site collection and how much space used in the disk. But didn’t find major difference in the report.
Checked “Deleted from end user recycle bin “in all the site collections and no major storage is noticed.
Planning to Detach the problematic Content DB and attach ,will check whether any major effect is there
Why the Content DB shows 200 GB as used when the total storage used of all site collections is just 40 GB.
Appreciate suggestions from any one.

As there is only 20 MB of unallocated space for the above said DB, SQL DB team informed that they cannot perform the DB shrink at this moment.
So we are thinking to Offload all the site collections to other new DB and then will Drop the problematic database. In this way we can overcome the
issue.

No, there is no issue with the mismatched sizes. We are not on short on disk space. We just worried why it occupies that much size(200 GB) when
the total storage used of all site collections in that DB is 40 GB.

There is other way of fixing this issue apart from what Amit mentioned. Create a classic based web application in SP 2013 using PowerShell.
New-SPWebApplication -Name "TestApplication" -ApplicationPool "TestApplicationAppPool" -AuthenticationMethod "NTLM" -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount "sppoc\spfarm") -Port 100 -URL "http://sp2013demo"
Now mount the content database from SP 2010 on to the web application created above
Mount-SPContentDatabase WSS_Content_100 -DatabaseServer SQL2012Demo -WebApplication http://sp2013demo:100
Once the mount is complete, convert the web application to use claims and migrate the user to use claims identity.
Convert-SPWebApplication -Identity "http://sp2013demo:100" -To Claims –RetainPermissions -Force
$w = Get-SPWebApplication "http://sp2013demo:100"
$w.MigrateUsers($True)

Database size and Storage Metrics are mismatching

Hi,
When I look at the storage metrics for one of our SharePoint Web Application root site collection it shows the top sized site as 28.2% of parent and the size as 21178.5 MB. When we calculate the total size of the site collection from
that it should 74994 MB. But when I see the size of the content database ( this is the only site collection in this content database) it shows 185661.5 MB as the size and 26852.5 MB as the space available. When I run the report (Disk Usage By Top Tables)
on that database it brings the list with dbo.AllDocStreams table at the top (Data - 80333 MB) followed by dbo.AuditData (Data - 48305 MB) followed by dbo.AllUserData (Data - 8593 MB).
3 years back we migrated this SharePoint Web Application from 2007 to 2010.
I saw that the recycle bin has only 30 day worth data.
How can we reduce the size of the database according to what it shows in the storage metrics? Appreciate any help.

so... your database has:
80gb in files (includes version history)
50gb in audit data
8.5gb of list data
plus ~27gb of free space for growth between backups
total of ~165gb (which is close enough to the 185661.5 that you listed)
you need to split up the site collection, and then spread the site collections across multiple databases.

I have complex Biz Talk 2013 farm having 20 servers,15 Hosts. In my production environment even if there is no traffic i am getting throttling errors from SCOM for my all the production hosts.
Error : One of the BizTalk Server processes in the affected computer is being throttled for significant
periods because of high database size exceeding the threshold
I checked following things:
1. MsgBoxDB size 748732 KB
2. Spool table size 53 MB
3. Tracking DB size 26724 KB
4. Host settings -- Message Queue Size = 100, MsgCount = 50000 , Spool MP = 10 , Tracking MP = 10
5. Ran Message Box viewer and did not found any error related to DB size. (which counter i should focus on in MBV)
Note -- for DB i am sharing full backup size because it does not have log file size.
Please suggest where i should focus?
Is SCOM reporting correctly because everything is fine in biztalk ?

I remember this error from SCOM when you use the standard SCOM BizTalk pack.
Check the eventlog of the server, do you see any errors in event log, this could give some clue to the root cause. Whenever you have this alert from SCOM, you must have
some entries in eventlog relating to the alert raised by SCOM.
Is your message processing by BizTalk hosts are normal? Run the performance monitor to see the bottleneck. Check if there is really throttling.
As mentioned in this blog, check the state of the SQL Agent on BizTalk's SQL database server, may be try restart the SQL Agent on BizTalk's SQL database server.

All of my SQL Server instances are sql server 2008r2 standard edition(10.50.2500). MDW is existing database, I try to setup collection sets for multiple instances and store data in one central MDW database
I create MDW in one instance, then run run configure Management Data Warehouse in target intance. collection sets were created successfully, but job failed with following error:
Executed as user: COCAD\INTDEPT01SQLAgentC10. The Management Data Warehouse version "00.00.0000.00" is not supported by the current data collector. Please upgrade the Management Data Warehouse by running the Management Data Warehouse Configuration
Wizard. Process Exit Code 5. The step failed.

What is the difference between the 4th generation iPad and the "New iPad with retina display"? i don't quite understand. are they stilll the same size or would i have to get a different case?

The 3rd and 4th generation iPads are the same size. The 4 has a faster processor, and a little better iSight camera for FaceTime. The 4 also has the lightning connector so your old cable will not work with the iPad 4.
You should always check with the manufacturer of the case to see if it will fit. You can probably do that on the manufacturers website.

I got the following error while deploying a app. I have not added any logic in App.

no ,it does has db permissions , this whole thing I think is related with weird and strange new condition of havinng sub-domains for apps ? by some changes I found it gos to my website and find outs that no resource available there , sometime 404 sometimes
502 error.
The whole idea of office team about app deployment is crazy , no proper documentation or knowledge base available for people using on-prem sharepoint, this may because of the idea using cloud more ,why should we use cloud for our enterprise data ?

MMS is not a Content Database, it is a Service Application Database. Run:
$db = Get-SPDatabase <GUID>$db.Delete()
That should do it.

Workflow issue with new WSP, "Unable to locate the content database"

I deployed a wsp last night. The farm is 1 WFE, 1 APP, 1 SQL. The workflow can be started manually, but isn't being triggered by a timer job. Workflow timer services are started on WFE and APP.

What is the wsp? Is it a migrated workflow?
Whether the wsp has the relationship with the problematic workflow.
You said that the workflow isn't being triggered by a timer job, what is the time job? Or, you mean the workflow cannpt be triggered automatically when an item is added or changed or other.
If the workflow cannot start automatically when an item is added or changed, you need to make sure you are not using the System Account.

The Oracle database engine and forms - functionality query

I have an interest in establishing how the Oracle System Catalogues cope with particular changes. I have never used Oracle, but I have carried out the same test on another RDBMS. If I had access to Oracle I would have carried out this test myself.
The test goes as follows.
Create a new database.
Create a new simple table, with just a few columns.
Create a form for the table, and add a few rows.
Rename the table or a column – if you can’t, then the RDBMS is Code Class.
If you can rename the table or a column, then do so, and invoke the form that you used before changing the table or column name. If it doesn’t work, the RDBMS is Code Class; if it does then the RDBMS is Identifier Class.
In an Identifier Class RDBMS changes of column or relation/table name will not interfere with the operation of any form already in place based on that table.
I'll be very grateful if anybody can give me a definitive answer on this, either through already having explored the issue or by running the test.

now it becomes challenging. The conceptual shift required to get to Identifiers is similar in scale to the shift involved in going from Newtonian Mechanics to Quantum Mechanics or from Cartesian Space-Time to Special Relativity, with the added proviso that the concept of identity built into the Relational Model is implicit rather than explicit as respectively in the cases of Newton and Descartes.
Your "you are not expecting.." sentence is a perfect statement of where I am - I'm not looking for the RDBMS to have any impact on application code - that would be a truly ridiculous expectation; this would make some crazy version of a cascade update, with remoteness as an extra complication. In IC applications (including RDBMSs) cascade updates are never needed.
The next sentence also has a very strong aspect ("allow applications ... to .. compilation time) but is weaker in the "simply hoping" and "might". I havn't developed a RDBMS that does that, although I hope to participate in such a development exercise soon, but I have developed an application that does exactly what you say. Binding/joining depends on something permanent rather than something transient, where names and abbreviations are all transient, as are all pure attributes once they have had identity (and relative position) stripped out them.
In your next paragraph I disagree that there is only a shift of problem. The dropping of whole tables or the deletion of columns is on a different scale from the changes that I am talking about, which do not but could get sensibly reflected in the current Code Class RDBMSs and applications. I'm aware that no application development tool allows what you say, (the problem is actually in the system tables) but I have achieved the completely analogous result in the application that I have developed.
Your comments about the AREAS table precisely highlight the issues of permanence and transience on which all of my work sits. What are you doing when you drop the table and replace it with a table with the same name? Do you want to think of the "new" table as the SAME as the "old" table or is it something entirely DIFFERENT, in which case giving it the name of a table that you have dropped might easily result in serious confusion.
If the new table is doing the same conceptual job as the old, then I would certainly want the continuity of its existence to be explicitly preserved, via the enduring identifier value (which reflects the fact that we are thinking of the table as having continuity of existence). So I would alter the table rather than dropping it and recreating it.
If I have ended up in a cul-de-sac (I've been there) and I have to throw away the table and all its related operators, then that is what happens if I don't get it right first time. I don't want any continuity, and I'll have to junk all the form and report etc operators unless I want to preserve some bits for my next attempt. I certainly won't expect anything to continue to work, because there is nothing to work on.
Your use of the expression "fancy name-independent code" is disappointing in all respects. I experience your use of "fancy" as sarcastic, and my full expression for "name-independent code" is "attribute independent and relative position independent identifier" whose acronym is "airpii". This is not just name-independent, it's independent of all other attribute and relative position values in the same row. It's certainly not a code: the word does not have a place in Identifier talk, since it has been replaced by abbreviations and acronyms, which are undiluted attribute; they don't have identity mixed up in them as with the "codes" of the "Codes Mistake". (In RDBMSs the mistake is called the "Names Mistake" because table and column names bear identity as well as attribute; there are no codes.)
I very much hope that our dialogue can continue - other dialogues have stopped at this sort of stage. On my website www.identifiers.org there is a page called "Identifiers - a Visual Representation" that sets out to communicate identifiers visually, that I created to communicate this entirely new concept in a different way after another database professional got stuck. I understand from another forum user that there may be a problem getting hold of the pdf file concerned if using Firefox - please let me know.
I have an RDBMS application on a SCO partition on a PC that proved identifiers for me. I can input a work instruction successfully using one set of abbreviations (the codes of old) and the stored instruction row makes no reference to the abbreviations that I have input - there's just a single identifier value in the appropriate column of the work instructions relation. The relationship between the abbreviations and the identifier value becomes clear from rows in other relations.
If I then want for some good reason (some purely operational entity has been renamed) to change one of the abbreviations when also changing the full name, I can do so in the relevant relation - this is an abbreviation rather than a code that I am now dealing with; I can change it because it's not also used for joins.
When I input the next work instruction I use the new abbreviation rather than the old; the form is entirely happy and works fine, and exactly the same identifier value ends up in the appropriate column of the work instruction relation. So I have input a different set of values to achieve exactly the same result. Is this crazy? No! This reflects the ways in which we naturally think and talk, and at last the application makes sense - I don't have to use a code that does not tie up with the name. The core of the issue is that I have been able to reflect external CHANGE fully and successfully in the database. We are surrounded by change, but RDBMSs and applications currently do not allow us to process it properly.
I acknowledge that no application development tool works in this way at present, but that's the fault of the architecture of system tables, which I intend to remedy. One can't remove the Codes Mistake from these tables.
However Identifier Class Applications can be developed using Code Class RDBMSs, because the developer has control over the application relation design, which can be carried out under identifier principles. I redeveloped from relation design scratch a very successful application, so I had a good placebo. In my environment I needed a 4GL form development tool so that I could get identifier values (and other attribute values) from attribute input rather than being limited to searching for a "code" to get other row values.

The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format. When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

If you're talking about music and movies an i-device was not designed for unique storage of media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing music and movies is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred from a device to a computer.
