Misplaced Library Catalog

Recently upgraded my hard drive from 1TB to 2TB and Lightroom 5 can't find the catalog. Before the upgrade, no problem. After the upgrade and a secondary fix to make Windows 7 happy, Lightroom can't find the appropriate catalog file, and any folders I select that I know I worked on, Lightroom views as a new import and no reflection of my prior work.
Set-up: Prior to hard drive upgrade, c: drive was HHD with operating system and major programs, like Lightroom. Photos, video, music, documents and other minor programs were on the 1TB drive which Windows labeled as e: and all the paths are based on the e:. Windows apparently gave d: to the DVD burner. As part of the 2TB install, Windows decided to reverse itself and made that drive d: with the DVD burner e:. That, of course created massive ciaos as Windows couldn't launch programs that were not originally installed on the HHD c: drive, or find photos or documents on e: which was now a DVD drive. I launched Lightroom  and it returned an error message that could not find catalog on e:(and a file path). Surprising that set the catalog file on e: when the program is installed on c:. Resolved the Windows mess by signing on as an administrator and reassigning the drive letters on both the 2TB drive and the DVD drive to reflect what Windows had prior to the upgrade,
All programs now work, can find photos and documents without a problem. The only problem is Lightroom finding it's past work and applying the instructions it created. It appears that Lightroom is now trying to establish it's Catalog on c: drive. How do I point it to the appropriate file on e: drive?

Hello Ali B--
The seven folders WERE assistants, imovie, itunes mail, printer alias (which I tried to trash but another one was created), recent servers, sounds, and stickies database. Just today my home library folder created an itunes and mail folder, so now there's only five unique folders in what I'll call libraryX. As for folders in other locations (non-library). There's an assistant file in the system folder (which I think is system 9), Imovie and Itunes folders elsewhere, but only the library folder contains the plug-ins and sound effect files (and nothing else). Recent servers is supposed to be in the apple menu, but it's not visible at this time. There's another sound folder but its part of a ditzy little application in system 9.
There's no other stickies database.
There's a lot of overlap with the sub-folder names in the other library folders, but there are plenty of folders in the other libraies that LibrayX doesn't have. There's also a lot of overlap in content, but almost none of the folders have identical contents.
I hope this answers your questions and doesn't sound like complete gibberish.
Thanks again--Anne

  • Mirror Library Catalog "directory"  from Explorer Directory when importing

I have a Folder on Windows Explorer named "Quick pile for Lightroom" (QPL). It is the singular folder my Lightroom Library accesses.  When I place files into QPL I sort them into separate subfolders, e.g. Landscape, Ice and Cold... When I import them into Lightroom, Lightroom is checked to "include subfolders" so all of my new files are included. But, I have to re-sort them,  after they are imported, into my subfolders in my Lightroom Library catalog, which is set up EXACTLY as the same tree as QPL.
(and here is my question) is it possible to get them to import into the existing Lightroom Library Catalog structure without re-sorting them?

  • Is the 2010 answer about firesheep encryption boxes still valid? I'm using an online library catalog; no sign-in needed. I didn't have

I work at an extension campus for a community college and have never had this problem before when searching the college's library catalog. Every time I click to open a book record or see the next page in a list of books, this Security Warning box appears. That is a lot of unnecessary steps to delete this box every time.
joanie 11/16/10 6:02am is the answer I looked at for my problem.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firesheep
Firesheep was developed to display the possibility of a website having a secure login shift to a non-encrypted page and exposing the user to session hijacking vulnerabilities. IOW, using HTTPS for the login and then sending the user to regular HTTP pages afterwards
If you're not logging in to that website, I don't understand why Firesheep would raise an alert. IMO, that extension isn't needed any longer - the webmasters who care about their users would have fixed their website years ago, and the webmasters who don't care and haven't fixed it yet won't do anything at this late date. Nothing the user can do about websites that raise an alert like that, except to "know" to avoid those websites in the future.
You may want to ask your school's IT department about why you are getting that alert, and see what they say about it.

  • Imac doesn't scroll down when accessing public library catalog

few weeks ago i started having trouble using my public library's online card catalog.  everything works fine until i try to scroll down to see the bottom of the page.  i can scroll until the bar comes to the bottom of the screen, but i can't scroll down any farther.  when i try to get to the bottom by clicking on the screen  to page down, the website freezes and shows some graphics from another page.  the website is unresponsive and i have to close safari.
it seems as though i started having trouble about the time of my last software update, but that could be my imagination.  i have no trouble on any other sites.  the library's response so far have been unhelpful.
    does anyone have a clue?

  • LR 1.1 update can't open my 1.0 library/catalog

I just downloaded the 1.1 update and installed it. When I try to run it, it
says it has to upgrade my old catalog. I tell it OK, and it starts. Then I
get a dialog with the following message:
Lightroom couldn't update the format of its catalog file and must quit.
Your previous catalog will be restored.

A bit more information. I use Norton Ghost to backup my system to a network
drive. First of the month is full backup day, then every day has an
incremental. In addition, I have LR do a weekly backup of its database, and
I *always* have it do the integrity check.
I just went back to my June 1 Ghost backup of my Lightroom (1.0) database
and restored it. Ran LR 1.1 on it, and got the same error message (which
happens, btw, during the integrity check). Now, I *know* that I've had LR
do a backup and integrity check since June 1, so this makes no sense
whatsoever - both SQLitePro and LR have found no integrity problems with
    this database.
Per Lee Jay's suggestion, I have sent email to Dan Tull, but I'm hoping
someone else here will have an "ahah!' moment ...
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • Library cataloging

Hi all. I'm looking for suggestions.
I would like to use my iPod 4 to scan barcodes for book cataloging. I don't need it to search Amazon or anything; I will enter all the data. Specifically, this is for sheet music, which does not usually have a barcode. I would print my own proprietary numbers on labels. Delicious library is a good analog for the app I am looking for.
    Specifically, the app needs to:
    1. Scan barcodes (well)
    2. Allow user-entered titles, author etc.
    3. Track lending to people in my contact list
Can anyone help? I've been searching, but many seem to be price checkers, and others don't seem to scan very well at all or don't support lending.
    Thanks much.
    Jeremy

. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to upgrade? It says under the help section, though, that it is compatible with Tiger. http://www.delicious-monster.com/help.php?id=2#article
Unless the compatibility is only for the earlier version of D.L.?

  • Should I use a second library / catalog for clip art photos

    Hi!
I've used LR for several years for my personal photos - editing & tagging & sorting etc. I've only ever used the one catalogue - hence putting this in the beginners forum.
I also have on my laptop a range of stock photos and clipart.  This is beginning to increase as I do more on blogs/websites etc. and I need to manage it - and be able to find what I need.  I have considered getting picasa, as I didn't want to mess up my personal lightroom catalogues and have millions of unrelated tags, but then I thought about starting a second catalogue specifically for stock pictures.
But I would like to ask some more experienced users their opinions.  Is lightroom viable for cataloguing stock photos (I may do some editing of them, though the primary purpose would be tagging)?  If I start a second catalogue will the tags be completely separate and not impinge on my own photos?  Or there any pros/cons I need to consider?  Would picasa or some other tagging software be better suited (I had heard that picasa also tagged things like colour automatically)?  If I keep all of the stock photos on an external hdd will that impact on my decision making process?
    Many thanks for your time!

I use two catalogs but one is only used when on the road. I will add metadata to photos but I never do any development work on the laptop catalog. As soon as I am back home, the first thing I do is export the working catalog on the laptop and import it into my primary catalog on my Mac Pro. The second catalog is only a temporary thing. I had tried maintaining two catalogs at one time using one for my working catalog and a second for my archives but that also became unworkable since I always had to search them both to find what I was looking for. LR only allows one catalog to be open at any point in time so switching back and forth became more than just a little annoying. Now I work out of the one catalog which contains both the working files as well as the archives and the catalog on my laptop is only live when I travel and even that only if I plan to be gone for more than a few days. For your situation I would toss my vote on the side of a single catalog as well. The metadata is a great way to distinguish images coming from other sources making it easy to locate them or distinguish between one of your own images from a stock image. If you want a more visual way, you could use one of the color labels as well. Add the label and then set your preferences to shade the background with the color and you can tell instantly in Grid mode which images are stock by the background color of the cell (I tend to be visual in my thinking). I would still add a keyword such as "stock" or "stock image" though.

  • If I'm not prompted to save a password, how can I create an exception URL? Library card numbers are confidential by law and are being displayed on our machines

The autofill/password function is allowing library card account nuumbers to display for every previous user on our library computers and probably other computers on campus. Since the box asking "do you want to save" does not appear, we aren't able to check the "Never" box and add the library catalog URL to the Exception list in the Security tool which was the solution recommended in 2011.
Although we recommend our users change their PIN from the default, the majority of them do not so their library records are publicly available, which is a violation of the Patron Confidentiality Act in our states and probably the other 49 states.
We would like to retain Mozilla as a browser option on our library computers, but if there is no way to fix this, we will have our ITS department block it on the College network.

You can lock the browser.formfill.enable pref and possibly the signon.rememberSignons pref as well to false to disable remembering form data and log in names and passwords.
    <pre><nowiki>//
    lockPref("browser.formfill.enable", false);
    lockPref("signon.rememberSignons", false);</nowiki></pre>
You can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    See:
These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • Redirecting library

I've been experimenting with Lightroom for a while, and now I'm ready to start using it. The 2 databases I set-up are in the default location in the pictures folder in my user folder. Now I'm thinking it might be better to move libraries to an external drive and also keep all imported images on that same external drive. So far I've only imported test photos I don't need to keep.
What's the best way to start over with a new database location? And also, should you ever delete any library files or library backups that Lightroom writes? Or will there always be a new one written each time you open Lightroom?
    Thank you,
    Tim

I'm posting my question here because this one is the closest I've found to what I'm asking, yet different.
I have 12,500 images on my main drive in my Pictures Folder (MAC), and the LR library/catalog file automatically looks to that folder when I open it. I just moved my LR Folder (library, etc.) from my main drive to an external drive. When I opened LR again and chose that library on the external drive, what shows up in FOLDERS down the left side is my PICTURES folder and all my RAW file folders from my main drive. I've already made a physical copy (by drag/drop) of each of those RAW folders onto the external drive, but how to I get LR to recognize/access those, and not the PICTURES folder on the main drive?
    Thanks for your help,
    Brenda

  • Help. I think my LR2 Library is messed up

I've been having this problem with LR2 taking a glacial amount of time to import any image into the library (catalog). This catalog was upgraded from LR2. My question is: I've put a lot of work into this library but what do I need to do to get the images and metadata out of this library and into a new fresh one, where, hopefully, this import problem will go away?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

  • DNGs disappear from catalog

This has happened to me with 2 separate shoots - raw files imported, changed to dng.  Some files edited in LR, some not.  Some sent to PSE and brought back into LR, not all.  Everything is turned to jpegs, even in library catalog.  This has never happened in a year of using LR, now 2x.  All raw info and edits are gone, photos are resized for web printing as exported from LR and I cannot get anything back.  I could maybe guess that somewhere they were synched, but why are dngs gone in library too?  Any thoughts on how to get them back?  (I should say that they were shot as both raw + jpeg, only raws selected to be brought into LR from hard drive, and the dngs were definitely there as some were edited.)  And yes, in preferences, raw to be separate.  Thanks for any help.

Hmmm, I am not sure why my 2 replies above are not showing - sorry, I sent replies from phone and am only checking site now.
@ssprengel, thank you for your reply.  I did answer but it's not posted.  The jpegs are in the catalog but not the dngs.  Only a few of the dngs were edited and exported as jpegs, but all were changed to jpegs.  All dngs and edits are gone.
@Rob Cole - thanks also for your reply.  I am sure it must be my error, but I don't know how to undo it.  I looked in the library at these 2 shoots again tonight, and though I didn't think I stacked them, wanted to make sure.  Here's the message I see in the first shoot - "The metadata for this photo has been changed by another application.  Should LR import settings from disk or overwrite disk settings with those from catalog?"  I have no idea what that would overwrite.  There are 2 choices - Import settings from disk, or Overwrite settings, which is the highlighted prompt.  In the second shoot, they all have that same message, except for 1, which starts off "The metadate for this photo has been changed by both LR and another application."  Some of these photos were brought into PSE, but most were not.
It sounds possible that if I overwrite disk settings with those from catalog, it may revert to the dngs?  And I still don't know how I messed up to begin with.  Any further thoughts?  Thanks for any help.

  • Syncing LR catalogs with folder pics on HD and vice-versa

LR 1.4.1 running Mac OS (Tiger)
I'm a relatively new LR user and I've switched over from using iPhoto recently.
I am trying to sync the actual content of my picture folders in my hard drive (HD) with that which is displayed in LR's Library, but with some difficulty.
The problem is that I may have picture files on my HD that for whatever reason, are NOT displayed in LR. Is there a way to tell LR to sync the Library catalogs with the picture folders that are in my actual hard drive?
    For example:
On my HD, let's say I have a folder called "Family", which contains 5 picture files (combination of JPEG and RAW): "mom1", "mom2", "dad1", "dad2", "brother". Although the "Family" folder/catalog appears in the "Library" of LR, I am only able to see "mom1", "mom2" and "dad1" in LR and the catalog displays 3 total files in "Family" (instead of the 5 pic files which I know exist on my HD).
When I try to import "dad2" and "brother" into LR, it is not allowed because LR tells me that those files already exist in "Family". If they exist, why can't I see them?
My basic question is: Is there a way to easily sync catalogs in LR with the folders in the HD, so that what I see in LR is actually representative of what is on my HD (a 1:1 would be great).
Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light on this.
I feel like this is something that could be resolved quickly but I just don't understand LR enough at this point.
    Cheers,
    Dave Lewry

Thanks for the quick reply, LJ.
    I'll try it tonight.
Out of curiosity, what if I had manually added a picture to the folder in my HD. Would I simply import in LR and it would add the pic to my catalog? Would there be a problem of LR telling me the picture already exists in my folder (in the HD), even though I cannot see it in LR?
Is there a way to sync actual HD folders so that LR catalogs and HD folders and their contents are always representative of each other? (Sorry if you answered this and I am simply reiterating my original question.)
    Cheers,
    Dave

  • Relocating Image Folders to External Drive where LR library resides...

I have 12,500 images on my main drive in my Pictures Folder (MAC), and the LR library/catalog file (also on my main drive) automatically looks to that folder when I open LR. But I just moved my LR Folder (library, etc.) from my main drive to an external drive. When I opened LR again and chose the library on the external drive, what shows up in FOLDERS down the left side is my PICTURES folder and all my RAW file folders from my main drive. Thanks for your help,
    Brenda

The easiest way is to "loose" the images and then "find" them again. You could remove the images from the drive so LR fails to locate the images, but it's easier just to rename to folder on the main drive that contains all your images.
Then start Lightroom. All your folders will be in red. Right click on the main folder and click "locate missing files" then point to the new location.

  • Workflow: using LR w/2 computers, 1 catalog?

Is it possible? I'm wanting to use my desktop (PC) and Macbook Pro, and be working at both locations, with the same catalog.
I'm thinking I could have all photos on an external hard drive, and move that around between the two machines, but will that work.....keeping a copy of catalog on both machines?
I can't quire wrap my head around how it could work!
Or should I have one (desktop) be the "home base," and then, when I work on the laptop, what, export a library/catalog to move the modified image.
My head hurts thinking of it! Any workflow suggestions welcome. Thanks much

Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 5 use different catalog formats, and are not compatible with each other. You need to be running Lightroom 5 on both computers. Your license entitles you to two installations for your personal use. The only reason not to upgrade the Lightroom 3 is if the operating system won't support Lightroom 5. Having the catalog on the external drive could have a slight impact on performance. I have done it a few times. Most notably was when I was working on wedding photos from my daughter's wedding. I didn't notice any performance issues at all. If both computers support USB 3 then I would make sure the external hard drive does as well.
