Missing 1280 x 800 in Windows using Boot Camp

Hi there. I have a 2009 Mac mini with nVidia graphics. I'm using an Acer X223w widescreen LCD monitor. In OS X I am able to select 1280 x 800 for my screen resolution. In Windows 1280 x 800 is not an available option. I looked for drivers for this monitor but there are not any for WIndows XP. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can use 1280 x 800 in Windows XP?
Thanks.

With Windows, it may not be the Monitor, but the Display Adapter. Go to Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Adapter. If the correct adapter is not installed, it may affect what resolutions you can display. A Monitor can be seen as a generic device, like the Wide Screen Monitor at my job, and there are options available to display wide screen because Windows has the correct display adapter installed. If you need the drive, go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
and use Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products.
I hope this helps.

Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."   I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7.  It worked a few days ago.  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.

There is no Lion DVD. Start Boot Camp Assistant and select the menu item to download the Windows Support Software.
Read and follow the Boot Camp Installation Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.
    Jon
No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

Additional information from Linc's post. Basically, only one additional partition can be added to a Fusion Drive and it resides on the HDD.
Do computers that come with a Fusion Drive support Boot Camp?
Yes. Use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Boot Camp. The Windows partition will exist on the hard disk drive, not the Flash drive, and is not part of Fusion Drive Logical Volume Group. 3TB Fusion Drive configurations need to update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to install Windows 8. See iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3T hard drive for more information.

    What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

  • Installed Windows using boot camp but lost my mac disc mid setup!

I am on a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and used Boot Camp 3.0.4 to try and get Windows 7 on it. I partitioned the hard drive and successfully installed Windows 7 on my comp using my Windows 7 CD. However, being the overeager moron that I am, I did so without ensuring that I have a Snow Leopard CD. So now I am stuck in Windows. Anybody got any solutions for a dumb man?

    you are not stuck.
the default OS is set to the Windows volume
    hold down x on startup
or hold down option key after the chime sound and wait for the startup selector
when you get to OS X then go to Startup Disk control in system preferences

The restart in Mac OS X icon (a grey diamond) will only appear after you've installed the Boot Camp drivers. If you installed the drivers, try clicking on the sideways triangle to show any hidden system tray icons.  You can also use the boot camp control panel to restart in Mac OS X.
For how many partitions you have, you should be able to see those in the Disk Utility application in Mac OS X or the Disk Management app in Windows.  Be careful not to delete any of them.  If you want to remove a partition, I'd use the Boot Camp Utility to do that.  Nore as well that OS X 10.7 and above add a hidden recovery partition to your drive that you won't see in Disk Utility but will see in the Windows app.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • Stuck in the installation with windows using boot camp

I gave windows 35GB on my HDD. When I came to the part in the installation to chose a place to install windows on, all the places that was showing gaved my the answer "you need to have NTFS". The problem was that none of them had it, not even the 35GB space that I made with boot camp for this.
I chose to stop it all and started go back in the installation. But when I came to the choosing of languages I clicked on "x", then my computer started restarting itself. It is know I am stuck.
I manage to get the installation disk out, so now my screen is black and all that is showing is "no bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key"
I dont know how to get back to ios.
Please help me find a way to get back to iOS!

You must read the Boot Camp directions before charging in, this is clearly covered on Page 7.
Reboot: at the sound of the chime press and hold the option key. When the startup manager loads select OSX to boot from.

  • Problem to install Windows using Boot Camp 3.0.4 in Macbook Air (2008)

    Hi Folks!
    Please I need help.
I have a original Macbook Air of 2008 (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP8?viewlocale=pt_BR) with the Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I want to install the Windows 7 Professional x64 as a secondary partition using the BootCamp 3.0.4. After steps necessary for create a new partition with the BootCamp, I rebooted the machine with the "Windows 7 Professional installation DVD" in DVD device, but then the setup Windows installation does not appears, showing the initialization white screen of the Mac OS with the apple image, a symbol of emptiness and a folder with a "?" symbol within alternating infinitely and do not finish.
I tried with the Windows Ultimate Vista x86, but occurs the same.
Please, what can I do to install the Windows in my Macbook Air?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Jonas Presse

No, I did not get a solve. Actually, my problem worsened. I tried it again, but this time the computer wouldn´t detect my alu keyboard, hence I couldn´t select a drive to tell the bloody thing where to boot from. That is weird, because at the time I opened this thread it did work. I actually had to borrow a wired keyboard so I could hit alt and get it to work.
At the moment I am not so keen on trying it again......

  • Pixelated/Scrambled screen during boot of Windows using boot camp

Occaisionally, when booting up my mac into Windows (Xp Pro 32 bit or win7 64 bit) I get a horribly scrambled/pixelated image and the boot ultimately fails. I'll have to retry sometimes many times in order for it to eventually boot correctly. If I stay in windows, there is usually no issue. However, if I boot from Mac to Windows, there is an issue almost EVERY time. The scambling for XP and win7 is similar but there are some differences.
With XP I get diagonal strips of partially pixelated lines right after the gray apple logo screen. Sometimes this will resolve on the XP loading screen and everything is fine. Other times, the lines persist and the load fails.
With 7, its a jumble of colored bars and flashing ?'s

I am having the same problem as of 3 days ago...while viewing internet in safari the screen turns greenish with pixalated images and then stalls....have to reboot many times to get to log on window...this is the first time I am having this problem

  • A lot of problems after installing Windows XP using Boot Camp on a Mac Book

I have been having a lot of problems after installing Windows XP Home Edition (2002).
For one, after installing Windows using Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5.1, I opened Windows on my Mac Book, inserted the Mac OS X Disk 1 as in the instructions and got the message: +"This package requires a newer version of the Windows installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?"+ When I clicked Yes (I had NO idea what it meant at the time), I got the message: "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing" and the Installer quit.
How do I fix this problem?
Another problem I have is that there is no sound on the Windows XP, yet it works perfectly on Mac OS X. Is there any way to fix this problem?
A third problem I have is that I can't wirelessly connect to the internet using Window XP, yet I can on Mac OS X. I have no idea on how to fix this, and it's really messing with me. D:<
D: There are way too many problems, and I have a feeling there will be a lot more later on. Help....

  • Install windows 7 32-bit using boot-camp on snow-leopard

I have Snow-Leopard running on my MacBook. I want to install Windows 7 32-bit Professional. I have already purchased copy of Windows from Amazon. I never'ed install Windows on my MacBook till date, so I don't know what to do, and how to install it.
Please share your experiences of installing Windows using Boot-Camp. I need screen-shots or video that can help me with installation.

Windows 7 requires Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard and the Boot Camp 3.1 Update. For complete system requirements information, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899

  • New Retina MBP + Windows 7 boot camp = no nVidia GPU

I'm hoping someone will correct me wrong on this...
    I have a brand new 15" Retina MBP 2.6GHz 16GB RAM 500 SSD.
After finally getting Windows 7 SP1 installed (along with countless updates ) and boot camp 4.0, I have noticed some display problems.  My only reslution options are: 1600x1200 (which looks stretched), 1280x1024 (reallly stretched), and  lesser resolutions with which I didn't bother.  This didn't seem to make sense given the nVidia 650M.
Also, NONE of the external video ports are working (Thunderbolt to DisplayPort, HDMI to HDMI, HDMI to DVI) -- they're simply not getting a signal at all.
So I went into device manager, and the 650M is not even showing up as being installed!  All I see is "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter", which tells me Windows is only acknowledging the integrated Intel graphics.
I can't simply install an nVidia driver, as it can't see the device onto which that driver would be applicable.
I assumed this was an issue of the "automatic graphics switching."  Apple confirmed this, telling me that Windows doesn't have an option to choose between displays.  I couldn't find a way to trigger it with any third party app, either (including Adobe After Effects).
Further, Apple claims 64-bit drivers aren't yet available for this GPU, so even if I could switch it over, I'd have to step down to a 32-bit install.
So, basically, my boot camp side looks like a netbook.
I cannot be the only one experiencing this!
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

I followed the boot camp manual exactly and the Nvidia drivers were not installed. I had to go into the Nvidia drivers directory in the windows support CD and manually run the setup.exe file. After that, the drivers were installed.
Note: when you create your windows partition in boot camp, you will select custom, and then format. It is critical that you format your boot camp partition and not your OS X partition. It will not say boot camp, but you can tell it's the right one by its size. For example, if you selected a 40 GB size for boot camp, the size of the drive you select to format should be 40 GB.

That is exactly what I said, are you sure you wanted to reply to me?
FYI, In a normal Bootcamp installation the partition will be named Bootcamp
