Missing Account Name

After shutting my computer down and restarting it about a half an hour later, my I realized my User name was no longer listed. It's as if it dissappered. I tried booting from the installtion CD in hopes i could maybe reset my password but the only account that it says is avaliable is the "root" account. I tried to reset this password in hopes to log onto that, but it did not work. Please help

don't panic, your account is not really gone. its directory service entry is corrupted but all your user data is intact. do the following. from root open terminal and type (copy and paste please).
rm /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/short-user-name.plist
Instead of short-user-name put in the above the short name of the disappeared user. It's the same as the name of that user's home directory in /Users folder. Please make sure you copy the command EXACTLY as given. it's very important. we don't want to delete the wrong thing here.
Press enter in terminal.
Restart, log in as root and try creating the account with that short user name from system preferences->accounts. it will say that a home directory by that name already exists and ask if you want to use it. say "yes".
Your account will be recreated and you'll be able to log in.

  • Sync is not activating on my new PC - Missing account name

    I had Firefox 6.0.2 set up on a previous PC build. I used the Sync tool within to back up my settings before reformatting. I created an account and was given a Sync key and I backed that key up. I reformatted my machine, installed a new copy of Firefox, and have had no luck gaining access to my Sync account.
    I have verified that the Sync account works via the https://account.services.mozilla.com/ website, as I can log in there with no trouble.
    I have followed these steps:
    1) Clicked Options
    2) Chose Sync
    3) Clicked Set up Firefox Sync
    4) Clicked "Connect" under "I already have a Firefox account"
    5) Clicked "I don't have this device with me"
    6) Put in my account name and password that I used to log into the account services site listed above.
    7) Selected "Firefox Sync Server"
    8) Pasted an exact copy of my Sync key into the Sync key field
    9) Clicked Next
    The system attempts to connect to the Sync server (by what I can tell) and then fails with the error "Missing account name". I would like to be able to connect to the Sync site to get all my settings back.

    Thank you for the notification, cor-el. While I found the information helpful, I didn't necessarily consider it a solution. I attempted Sync usage again last night and it has apparently worked. My copy of Firefox on my new installation now has all of the Sync data it should.

    This is the error message displayed at each attempt to sync a second computer from a Firefox Sync account (Firefox button > Sync Now OR Options > Sync > Manage Account > Reset Sync).
    I have connected two computers following this process:

    On the secondary computer, the Options > Sync dialog box shows that my account is logged in (i.e. my Firefox Sync user name is displayed).

  • When trying to sync, I get an error message "account name missing".

    I just tried configuring Firefox Sync on my laptop and desktop (both Macs), with the laptop as source of the sync data. When I try to connect to the server, however, I get an error message "connecting to server failed" on the laptop and "account name missing" on the desktop (error messages are paraphrased from Dutch). What's going on and how can I fix it?

    This isn't "a few minutes of sync errors", this has been going on for nearly a day now. It seems unlikely that it has anything to do with the maintenance.

    It would be easier if I used other browsers, but I loved Firefox and been using it since. Hope someone could help, already contacted Tumblr support, but I just find out the error is only isolated in my Firefox browser.

    I think, I will now proceed as follows:
    1) Make a clone of my HD to my external drive (what program do you recommend for this, in order that there is no risk for overwriting?)
    2) Migrate the user to the iMac of my friend, using Migration Assistant
    3a) If this brings back my lost email, I would get a new HD and Tiger installed on my Powerbook and move the user back
    3b) If the migration does not solve the problem, I would try to repair the way you proposed before and migrate the user to Leopard after the repair.
    I have forwarded my email now to another account and for this reason I do not have to hurry. I prefer to take my time, in order not to loose my missing emails.
    Do you agree with the way forward I have sketched above?

  • Mysterious triangle left ot POP account name, emails missing in Inbox

    I got a problem with the Mail inbox of a POP account. There is a number, that shows the count of unread emails, however the pane that displays the list of emails is blank. However to the left of th account name is a triangle, as if there were folders underneath it. Clicking it changes only its direction however there are no additional folders and the pane to the right remains blank.
    The new incoming emails are correctly retrieved from the POP server, I can find them in the Finder (~/Library/Mail/(account name)/INBOX.mbox/messages) and I can click each of them in Mail. Why are they not shown in the list of messages in Mail?
    However the indicated number of unread messages is much larger than the number of emails I can find in INBOX.mbox. I know the missing messages are somewhere on my harddisk but I can not find them anymore!
    I have already rebuilt my mailboxes by deleting the Envelope Index file, however the "hidden" emails did not re-appear and the mysterious triangle appeared again!
    How can I get rid of the mysterious triangle, make the mails in the INbox again visible and how can I find the missing messages indicated in the counter?

    I am trying to get the "Offset Account Name" to print in the paper report. For the "on-screen" report it is displayed and can be toggled in the form settings, but this has no impact on the printable reports. I have looked all over trying to figure out an easy way to just add the data into the report, but for the built-in Crystal report, all the items come from the "PLD_Items" database. PLD_Items F_120 is the field for the Offset Account Code, but I don't know which one it is, if it's even there, for the description field.
    Short of writing an entirely new report, is there a way to add this field?

  • No "purchased by" or "account name" in Get Info display

    The first song I purchased from the iTunes
    store works fine. When I use "Get Info" to

    or "Account Name" in the "Get Info" display.
    The header appears to be missing or corrupt

    After 3 days I got a message that said I should

    Hi ailurous,
    I run repair permissions all the time without first booting from the install disk. It works fine. On the other hand, attempting to Repair Disk without booting from the install disk will not work.
    I'm thinking something other than faulty permissions is causing your problems..
    That being said, I'd suggest booting off your install disk, running Disk Utility, and selecting First Aid>Repair Disk.
    If it says that it couldn't repair the disk, just keep running it until it gives you the Disk Successfully Repaired message.
    Let us know if this helps or if you get some error messages.

  • Account name confusion?

    A friend was just given a G4.  It's a Dual 800 PowerPC G4, 1.12 GB.  It's running OSx 10.3.9
    I changed the name in the 'Accounts' for her.  I didn't create a 'new' account, I just changed the name of the admin account.  It seemed to take just fine - and appeared in the place of the admin name in the Finder Window (over on the left).  A few days later she rebooted the computer ... to find that the original name of the account has re-appeared in the Finder window, all but the primary Mac apps have disappeared from the Dock, and the folders of photos she had placed on her desktop are gone!  I get that emergency call.
    I go into System Preferences and Accounts, and there is the new name I assigned to the account.  But in the finder window, over on the left, the name of the admin is the original name (of the previous owner).  And though all the original apps are still safe in Applications, her folders on the desktop have disappeared.
    I've looked to see if there are now two accounts in the System Preferences.  Nope, just that one admin account, with her name on it (the new one I assigned several days ago).
    Can anyone suggest what might be going on here, and how I could fix the issue?  And, if possible, where those photos on the desktop might have disappeared to?

    One last little bitty question?
    1- Log in as root (if you can't, log in as any administrator-level account).
        I'm logging in with the 'admin' account (the one that's been problematic).
    2- Go to System Preferences->Accounts and delete every other user account shown.
        There are no other 'user accounts'.
    3- Create a new account for your friend. Be sure it has administrator privileges.
        Here's the confusion.  I create a new account for my friend.  It says 'standard' account.  I can't find any place to change this to 'admin' (or any place obvious that allows me to set 'administrator privileges').  I don't want to delete the account I logged in on, which DOES have admin privileges.
    4- (Only if you didn't do the preceding logged in as root.) Log out with whatever account you logged into.
        This suggests that I shouldn't YET be deleting the 'admin' account I logged in with.
    5- (Only if you didn't do the preceding logged in as root.) Log in with the new account you just created.
        So I try this, but when I come back in my NEW account is called 'standard', and the old (grey out) account still says 'admin' under the name.  So this is where I want to be very careful.
    6- (Only if you didn't do the preceding logged in as root.) Go to System Preferences->Accounts and delete every account name you see except the new one you just logged in with.
        Not until I figure out how to make my NEW account have admin privileges ... and get rid of that 'standard' written under the name.  Right?  So what might I be missing?
    So now I've very curious...

  • New Email Account Name

    My ISP changed their email system.  I have the same email address, but they have changed the account name to the full email address instead of just the first part of the email address.  Example  [email protected]  My old User Name used to be Johndoe, but has now changed to [email protected]  For some reason when you set-up your email account on the Blackberry, it defaults the User Name to just the first part of the email address and I can't figure out how to change this on my Blackberry so that my user name is the full email address.
    Can anyone help me??

    I found finally the solution to my problem.
    You'll need to use the ssomanage and use the to
    BTSScnSSOApplicationConfig.exe found in the link mentionned previously.
    In order for it to work, a special attention needs to be paid to the AffiliateApplication.xml
    The contact XmlElement is important (it's not an email address as I used to think (smile))

  • TNS-01151: Missing listener name - APPS_VIS

    Hi,
    We completed the installation of E-BIZ Database and Application onto separate VMs via Oracle's eDelivery templates. Both new VMs are up and running per the OVM Manager.
    However, we are not able to connect to the eBusiness Application. Per the e-Business Suite Rapid Install guide, we should be able to verify installation by accessing:
    http://<host name>.<domain name>:<HTTP port>/OA_HTML/AppsLogin
    We receive a HTTP Internal Error when trying to access this.
    Numerous verification steps have been performed including:
    - Testing network connectivity (ping) between APP VM and DB VM using the hostname
    - Checking that the tnslsnr on DB VM is listening on port 1521, which is what was also configured for APP VM
    - Checking that the httpd on APP VM is listening on port 8000
    I am unable to run lsnrctl to check the status - how should my profile be set to be able to run this as I receive: lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I have also included adalnctl.txt log from the E-BIZ Application Server. I'm not sure whether the LISTENER.ORA on the APP or DB server should be updated. And if so what should it be updated with?

    Just a follow-up to this thread. We have now been able to start and successfully login to the e-Business Suite.
    The source of the problem was in the installation of the e-Business Suite (via template) - it previously never completed successfully due to:
    1) DNS - No DNS has been setup with the new virtual hosts as this is simply a prototyping activity. We found that it initiates connection with DB host during installation and will not complete successfully if one is not found. Furthermore, the /etc/hosts file is wiped of existing entries and replaced just with the host of the e-Business application server everytime ebiz_1211_reconfig.sh is run. Workaround is to login to the host during the reconfiguration and update the /etc/hosts file just after it instantiates the static IP address
    2) Apps Password - The application could not startup as it was connecting to the database with a locked out user account. It uses the 'app' user to login to the DB - hence the apps password set during the e-Business application installation must correlate with the app user on the database - in this instance we kept it as apps/apps
    After resolving the above issues we are able to connect through the web URL to e-Business Suite.
    My next question is, assuming our database instance is called 'VIS', why is adalnctl trying to look for APPS_VIS in the listener.ora? I read

    The problem now is that, i dont get the suspended case workitems error anymore but, the WF is not doing what it's suppoed to do, i.e., delete the users.
