Missing adjustments in LR5

Hi, I have upgraded from LR4 to LR5, but my adjustments from developer module, stars, keywords tag etc is missing.
I think I moved the catalog from 4 to 5 instead og copied and do not know how to fix this problem.

Here is the general method
http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm
You can apply this method to the "parent" folder that contains subfolders with your photos

  • Can I import my .xmp adjustments into LR5's catalog?

I have only recently installed LR5.  I have many raw files I have adjusted using ACR and PS CS6.  Is there a way to import those adjustments from the .xmp sidecar files into LR5's catalog?

When you import the photos into Lightroom, the xmp will be read into Lightroom.

  • Edit in external editor with lightroom adjustments issue LR5 and PS CC

Since several days when I try (in Lightroom) 5 to edit an adjusted file (NEF, JPEG or TIFF) in Photoshop CC as external editor (with the option "edit a copy with lightroom adjustments") in many cases the adjustments ar not visible in photoshop CC, or only partial visible, and sometimes the file opens not at all. Removal of the preference files of LR 5 and PS CC and  a whole new installation of LR 5 didn't resolve the issue. I have a macbookPRO with Mac OS 10.8.5 and the most recent versions of LR 5 and PS CC. Has anyone experienced this problem and what can be a solution.

I have no idea, but have you tried File / Catalog Settings/ General tab: Relaunch and Optimize. Relates to the database.

  • Missing adjustments in aperture photos

Photos in certain my albums/projects have lost all flags, adjustments and captions (but not keywords).  Others, including adjustments created earlier and later, are fine.  I tried rebuilding permissions but no success.  Help!!

I'm not actually sure as I haen't used stacks (at least knowingly) - and I have a referenced library.  The point is, why can I see adjustments in otyher projects/albums and not these?  Wouldn't it be all or nothing?
    Thanks!

  • Exported images to external editor (Photoshop CS5) have missing adjustments

    Hi All
Wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. Basically if I select a image that has Aperture adjustments applied to it and edit in external editor (in my case CS5) the image opens without the adjustments, however if I export the image say to the desktop then open them in CS5 it is fine. The adjustments I made in aperture are contrast, curve vibrancy etc and some brush adjustments. Also I have heard that the sharpening brush adjustment is not exported ? Running a iMac on 10.6.4 and Aperture 3.0.3
Any help would be much appreciated.

If I take an image with a large number of adjustments including all the ones you've listed above, multiple brushes etc. and click open in CS5, Aperture takes a reasonable while to process the image, creates a psd with all the adjustments applied and then opens the 16 bit 300 dpi psd file in photoshop. So what you are describing is not a universal bug as it's been working as it should every time on my machine.
It may be a slight library corruption from your side.Your last description of long and short process times is telling. Have you done the basic checks? Rebuild database, check library permissions, ensure that the images in question on online if referenced etc?
Fill us in a little bit more about your setup - can you tell a difference between the images it works on and those it doesn't (RAW or jpeg, what flavour of RAW, referenced or managed, same camera or different) - and we'll see if we can help you further.

  • Missing adjustments in Develop

The section below the histogram has suddenly disappeared so there are no sliders for exposure, clarity, mid-tones etc.
I've been using Lightroom 3 for a few days with no problems till now.

Click on the header entitled, "Basic".  If there isn't one, right-click on any of the other headers and enable basic.

  • LR5 and ACR glacially slow; tried everything

I built a custom PC for photo editing and it has been a profound disappointment. Performance with both Adobe Camera RAW through Bridge CC and Lightroom 5 are glacial. Ten seconds for a preview, 6 seconds for a 1:1 zoom, 4-5 seconds for a visual response to each individual adjustment, etc.
    Here are key components:
    OS - Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit
    CPU - AMD FX-6350 CPU
    Mobo - AsRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
    RAM - 32GB Crucial Ballistix RAM DDR3 1600
    Boot SSD - Samsung 840 250GB MZ-7TD250BW SSD
    Footage SSD - Kingston SV300S37A/240G 240GB SSD
    Video Card - EVGA 02G-P4-3658-KR 2GB GTX 650 Ti
    Lightroom Version - 5.3 64-bit
    Adobe Camera RAW CC
Here are steps I've taken to alleviate issue, all without success:
    Optimized catalog, LR5 settings, etc
    Updated video driver
    Reinstalled Lightroom
    Reinstalled Windows 8.1
Transitioned footage from 7200rpm HDD to new SSD
Overclocked PC from 3.9ghz to 4.3ghz
Converted RAW files to DNG (Sony a57 is my camera model)
    Created new catalog
    Increased LR cache to 64gb
    Installed Windows 7 for comparison
Developed new smart, standard, and 1:1 previews
Deleted preferences folder and started anew
    Changed monitor color profiles (Acer H226HQLbid > sRGB 2.1 > sRGB 4)
Created new catalog with only ~50 images
Ran Memtest86; no RAM errors. Speed, timing, voltage are at proper stock values
    Updated SSD firmware
Secure-erased and reformatted OS and footage SSD drives
Ensured that 'auto-write to XMP' was deactivated
Ensured that 'Default' metadata setting was active
None of these steps have resulted in any noticeable improvement. LR5 hangs, crashes, and lags upon every single adjustment. Adobe Camera RAW CC behaves the same way. I am desperate.

    I AM SO HAPPY!
As I mentioned earlier, I deleted Avast Antivirus in favor of the stock Windows 8.1 AV, called 'Windows Defender'.  My malware program is (and has been) MalwareBytes.
I've been throwing adjustments at LR5 like Ali jabs on Frazier... what a breeze.  Changing AV programs has solved the issue.
This computer is horsing through lengthy edit sessions while immediately providing visual response to my changes.  Applications of VSCO presets take ~4-5 seconds to complete, but that's not much of a holdup considering how many adjustments go into those presets.
I've had some other minor issues in the past with Avast (sometimes interferes with Windows Installer).  This, however, is the exclamation point on my official "DO NOT RECOMMEND!" stamp.  With Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and Lightroom 5 64-bit, Avast Antivirus (in my experience) was at fault for all of the sluggishness, crashing, and hanging.
Sincerely, thank you all so much for your help.  Several of you provided intelligent troubleshooting suggestions; thank you.  This was a tremendously frustrating issue and your help has seen to its resolution.  If you stop by Tacoma, WA, I'll buy any of you a beer!

  • Lightroom 5 does not export my adjustments when editing in Photoshop 6, although I have selected "edit a copy w/ LR adjustments"

I am a Mac user and I started to experience that my Lightroom 5 would no longer send the adjustments I have made to photoshop 6 even though I have selected the option for it do to so. I have searched online to fix this issue with no luck, I tried deleting the com.adobe.photoshop.plist and it did not resolve the issue.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

(Sometimes I have answers, but usually only more questions.)
Are other adjustments coming across--for example if you max out the Exposure sliders does the TIF end up lighter?  You could be editing the original not the LR version.
Are other new adjustments for LR5/ACR8 coming across--for example Uprights?  If you have an image with rectangular architectural features shot at a perspective angle, and you correct them in LR using one of the Uprights (Lens-Correction / Basic) options does Edit In w LR Adjustments include them?
If neither Uprights or Radial Filters are coming across, that would only make sense if you're actually using ACR 8.6 with PS-CS6 (not ACR 7.1) and you're not getting asked any question about with LR Adjustments, and are just assuming you're getting LR adjustments, when instead PS is rendering things using ACR which purposely doesn't allow new LR 5/ACR8-only features.
Another symptom of this situation would be that the filename in PS is the same as it was in LR, not with an -Edit on the end of the filename.
You can force LR to edit a copy if you define Photoshop.exe as an external editor and use Edit in Photoshop.exe instead of Edit in Photoshop.

  • Why is LR5 catalog better than PSE 12 Organiser?

    Hi/
I have started using a trial version of LR5.
I have been a regular user of various versions of PSE over the years.
Generally, I have been happy with the organiser, & have various tags nested in each-other.
I have never had a problem with it being unstable, & can normally find what I am looking for,
(provided that I have correctly tagged it in the first place :-)
My first impression of the LR5 catalogue is that it is not as intuitive.
I have searched on-line for how to set-up the catalogue & much of the discussion relates to how many catalogues to have. - I've already made that decision - Just the one:
So?  What features am I missing in the LR5 catalogue that make it better than the Elements Organiser?
    What do you think?

I am also a happy user of the Organizer, but I also use LR 4.4.
What I find interesting in LR:
    - huge amount of possible customization and options (if you need them...)
    - Ability to manage jpegs just as raws (the organizer does not let you open jpegs in acr, )
    - Smart ways to manage variants without copying files (virtual copies)
    - More advanced metadata management
    - possibility to merge catalogs
    - Much more support by Adobe and user forums
    - More advanced options in output in the latest versions
What can be debated is the difficulty of the learning curve as well as the 'robustness' of the software. The organizer was plagued with many bugs (it was already there many years before LR.) The problem is that having many more options makes LR much more complex. For instance the database has three times the number of tables. The result is that the LR forums are full of complaints about bugs or missing features... just because it is too rich and tries to satisfy everybody's needs.
Many cases of problems with the Organizer are related to the backup function which backs up both pictures and catalogs. Lr only backup catalogs. Backing up pictures is your responsability. If you have problems, it's not LR's fault, it's yours .
I can't find a post I made to show the possible advantages of the organizer, but that was just for the fun.

  • XMP files created in LR5 are showing in Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files--???

I import NEF files as I've done for years...no problem on import.
Now I've noticed that once I start making adjustments in LR5, the accompanying XMP files show in the Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files. Instead of as "Adobe XMP" files. Huh???
I'm able to work fine within LR, but since I noticed this I've been a) converting imported files to DNGs within LR, and b) importing new files as DNGs.
But sometimes I want to import files as NEFs...any idea why this is happening? Is it a LR bug? Is DNG conversion the best (only?) solution?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has a clue!

Hmmm, my concern isn't with opening the XMP, it's that the file type seems to have changed and I don't know how that's happening.
Here's a screenshot comparison from Finder windows:

  • Why do the brightness and contrast tools disappear

I just finished developing a set of photos. When I went to my next set, some of the functionality was missing namely the brightness and contrast tools. I am using lightroom 5. Why is this happening?

The images where brightness and contrast sliders are available were probably imported into Lightroom in an earlier version (probably Lr3). Back then the adjustment sliders were built around 'Process Version 2010'. When Lr4 was launched it included an updated and significantly more flexible set of adjustments sliders. This new set of adjustments is known as Process Version 2012, and is the current set of adjustments in Lr5. The images you try to edit that don't have access to brightness and contrast were probably first imported into Lr4 or Lr5. You can read more about PV2012 here Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.0 Feature Overview The overview also provides information on how to convert back and forth between PV2010 and PV2012.

  • MAC Yosemite Adobe CC photoshop and LR 5. LR edits not transferring to photoshop.

Having competed basic editing and adjustments in LR5 using the "Edit in…" to transfer the file to photoshop for further editing results in the original raw file without adjustments being exported. The dialogue box including "Edit a copy with/without LR adjustments or original" is missing. Have checked all preferences and catalogue settings. Have ensured that include adjustment data is included in metadata/xmp is ticked. Have uninstalled and reinstalled lightroom all to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

I have heard more recently that uninstalling Photoshop CC 2014 and reinstalling it can resolve these kinds of problems.

  • JavaFX 2 + Swing + Webstart How do we make it as painless as possible

My team supports a fairly sophisticated swing application and we would love to integrate some FX 2.0 features. Before going too far down that road we’re trying to figure out the best way to minimize the pain for our users.
I see that fx aware jnlp files can have a fall back launch target however, it seems like the fx aware launch target has to be a full blooded FX application. I created a spike with a simple main and a JFrame and it won’t run.
    For example:
    <jfx:javafx-desc width="100" height="100" main-class="test.MySwingMain" name="Some sample app" />
If MySwingMain doesnt inherit from Application i get an error.
In our current application prototypes when you launch Swing plus FX components in them on a computer which does not have FX installed, the application launches fine. It makes no complaints about FX not being installed. However it throws class not found exceptions when you touch any of the fx stuff. I would like to have webstart realize that they don't have fx and allow them to install it but i have only been able to make the default NoJavaFXFallback stuff trigger when the main is in an FX application.
Is there another way to have my swing application prompt the user to download JavaFX? It may not be possible to allow javascript to do the detection and installation prompt. We would like to handle it at the jnlp/java level but this only seems possible with main classes that inherit from “Application”. Am I missing something?
I even went so far as to create a FX 2.0 boot strap main class which just creates a swing frame but that behaves strangely when you launch it from webstart.

Great question for which, unfortunately, I don't have a good answer.
There is a request for more complete documentation for custom deployments which possibly would have helped you had it existed:
http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-19981 Enhancements to fallback documentation in Deployment Guide
This update to the deployment guide is scheduled for 2.2 (release after next).
Should you have suggestions for missing adjustments to the JavaFX deployment guide, then you can create or comment on documentation jiras or email feedback to:
    [email protected]
Also, custom FallBack or JavaFX launchers may become a bit easier to create when the sources for JavaFX deployment code (especially the default launcher and fallback class implementations) are made public (I believe that is planned, but not sure when).

  • How can I get Lightroom 5 to correctly upgrade my Lightroom 4 files

I followed the instructions starting up Lightroom 5, but, when I looked at my files that it upgraded, many file were missing.  So I Imported the missing files with LR5.  But then I noticed that many of the files I had imported  (~3,000), had all the keywords missing!  How can I fix this without reindexing the whole batch of files?

  • Images turning yellow/green

I am running Aperture 3.1.3 on 10.6.8 and importing camera RAW from a Canon 60D. I've been working fine with Aperture for about a year, but when I started opening images in a folder for the third or forth time since I imported them yesterday, they are turning dark green, one by one. They look fine during the load, but once it completes, it's like the bottom drops out of the gamma.
I found a post suggesting I remove a few plists -- I tried moving the only one I found, but no luck (and all the Adjustments panels have now disappeared). I had made no adjustments to the image but I reset them all anyway; no change. Reopened Aperture, the adjustment panel is still empty. At first the thumbnail remained the normal color, now it too is dark green.
I'm afraid to open any other images.
Any one had this problem or found a solution? Borderline desperate here...

Just a note: Quick Preview is not enabled, and when I click Show Master, I a "Missing Adjustments !" message is displayed (for some reason I'm not able to upload a screenshot).
