Missing Airplay icon in iTunes

I purchased a second Airport Express to tie a 2nd stereo into our Airplay network. I have two Airport Express units and a Denon home theater receiver that I purchased just because of Airplay. We are running the latest Version 12 iTunes and the Airplay icon has completely disappeared from the screen. I read an earlier string about this happening that recommended unchecking the IPV6 in the network connection properties. I did this, and the icon returned briefly, even let me pull down the menu where it saw the devices, then I tried to connect multiple. The rings circled for a few seconds and the icon and menu disappeared. I cannot get it to come back. I disabled the Symantec Endpoint Protection, thinking that might be a problem. Still nothing. Anyone have any further ideas? Running Windows 7 Pro. BTW: All devices and Airplay work fine from our iPads and iPhones.

Sorry, it is an Apple TV3, not 2

  • HT4352 Automatically missing airplay icon and iTunes library not listed on Apple TV computer screen

Home sharing and network connections are ON - ATV, iTunes & iPad mini. Neither device shows in iTunes nor Libraries in computer main screen on ATV. Nothing is automatically showing up as the instructions say... Neither is AirPlay icons... What's wrong?

You need Mountain Lion and a compatible modern Mac for Airplay mirroring.  Does your system satisfy Apple's requirements?

  • IOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

I use AirPlay to stream music from both iTunes and Pandora on my iPhone 5 to an AirPort Express.  After upgrading to iOS 8, I no longer have an AirPlay icon in Control Center.  The AirPort Express and the iPhone 5 are both connected to the same network.  The AirPort Express is very new (purchased new from Apple within the past 90 days).  It all worked great before upgrading to iOS 8

    APPLE...
The problem of a missing AirPlay icon and missing AirPlay devices has not yet been fully resolved. The variations I've seen (on an iPad 4) are
    1) There is NO AirPlay icon, only AirDrop
    2) The AirPlay icon is there but when you open its popup the local device (iPad) displays at the top of the list followed by one other device. If you now wait the shown device scrolls sideways and shows another available device
    3) The AirPlay icon is displayed and its popup window contains a current list of all available streaming devices. This is what we want!
HInt: Possibly there is something going on concerning the streaming capabilities of the available AirPlay devices. I've noted that my AppleTV is usually first up when devices start to appear and this offers picture and sound streaming (also screen cloning from suitable devices). After this the audio only streaming devices appear.
APPLE PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS !

  • No airplay icon in itunes 10.6.3

    Hi,
I have recently purchase an AppleTV and I can get it to connect to the internet, I can push from my iPhone and I can see the music library on my PC but I cannot see the airplay icon in iTunes on the PC so I cannot push from the PC to the AppleTV.
I have tried reinstalling all Apple programmes on the PC but nothing changed.
They are both on the same network and that network has access to the internet (it is the personal hotspot on my iPhone)
The image below is a cut from the preferences screen in iTunes...is something wrong there?
    Thanks!!

Doesn't matter...solved...for others who have that issue try:

  • The curious case of the missing airplay icon

    Hello everyone,
last night I noticed that the airplay icon was missing on my iPad. I didn't show up in videos, music or youtube.
When I turned on my iMac I saw that the icon was also missing in iTunes. The only thing I did yesterday was to connect my iPad to my iMac to sync iTunes.
I didn't do anything else really. That's why I figured it might be a good idea to update iTunes. Everything else is pretty much up to date and works fine. Also checked my router and wifi settings and couldn't detect anything out of the ordinary. Basically did everything people advised on the web. Resetting AppleTV didn't help either.
So right now I cannot mirror anything via AppleTV because the airplay symbol is missing on my iOS device as well as on my Mac. You probably know how much that s****. Does anyone have the same issues with airplay? Can anyone help me? I would really appreciate it!
    Take care!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Missing AirPlay Icon

Actually, I've NEVER had an AirPlay icon. Not sure if that's because I've never had an enabled device, or I've always had issues that have prevented me from having the icon.
Running: Windows Vista, iTunes 11.0.3.42, trying to connect to Klipsch G-17 AirPlay Speakers (x4, but testing out just one... and having problems).
    Router: Linksys WRT54G v8
    Antivirus: Trend Micro Titanium
Works on my iPhone to the speakers directly.
    Things I've tried:
    - Unistalling all Apple software, reinstalling
    - Confirming that Bonjour service is started
    - Adding exceptions for iTunes and Bonjour in both Trend Micro and Windows Firewall
    - Disabling IPv6 (since re-enabled)
    - Updating my router firmware
    - Disabling all router firewall settings (Block Anonymous Internet Requests, Filter Multicast, Filter Internet NAT Redirection, Filter IDENT(Port 113))
    - Attempted to set a static IP for the speaker (not sure what to put for the DNS server/defualt gateway)
I've tried tons of other stuff I can't remember right now. Been working on this for hours. And again, works from my iPhone to the speaker directly.
I think what I'm looking at is an IP address conflict, which I'm told when I connect my speaker to the network. Not really sure what device it's conflict with, but I can disable DHCP and enter the information manually, just not sure how to make my router designate that IP for the router and what to enter for the DNS server and defualt gateway.
    Any thoughts?

Couple other things I'd tried too:
    - Switching to the Mini-Player and back
    - Reinstalling my network card driver
I called Time Warner Cable for the DNS information, and apparently they don't support static IP for residential customers (I told them repeatedly how stupid this policy was). So I guess I spent $400 on speakers that I can't use.
Looks like the conflict is with my router's default gateway. Seems like something else is trying to pull that IP address. Linksys customer support is $29.99. Apple's same.
    Not sure what to do.

  • HT204291 Missing airplay icon: unresolvable!

None of the "fixes" or reboots, restarts, or resets work! I've always found that there were simple solutions to problems with Apple products...But this one, while it is probably simple (!), is not findable....after iOS 7.o2 update and ATV update the airplay icon is missing from all devices....we have two iPads, and three iPhones. None show communication with our Apple TV. again, I've restarted, rebooted, resetted, everything in my house...

I may have accidently fixed a similar problem. Try changing a setting on the ATV. Go to Settings > General > Apple TV Name: to an option on the list (select it).
More info in my orginal post, and something else you can try if it doesnt work. Let me know if it works.

  • How do I restore missing AirPlay icon?

Just set up Airport Express as an extension to my network and successfully streamed music from iTunes on my iPad to my hi-fi.  Wanted to see if I could stream music from my Tune In Radio app which didn't have an obvious way to connect to AirTunes.  Followed some online advice and double clicked home button, scrolled across and found AirTunes icon, touched it but nothing happened - it seemed to freeze. went back to iTunes and AirTunes icon had disappeared entirely.  Have tried all the usual tricks of turning router off and on, likewise with iPad and pulling Airport Express plug out and back in, have even tried changing language  settings under International from English to French and back again (a fix that has worked for other) all to no avail.
AirTunes icon shows up Ok on other equipment in house.  Any advice much appreciated.

Have also just tried restoring iPad from a previous back-up from about 6 week's ago but that hasn't resolved anything and AirPlay icon still mysteriously absent.

  • Airplay icon in iTunes 12.0.1.26 missing

As the title says the icon is missing. I have IPv6 unchecked so thats not doing the trick. ANyone know how to get the icon back?

This is the work-a-round for now: If you hold down the alt-key and click on "Get info" the old Info-tabs are presented including the videotab. I've sent feedback to Apple on this and so could you.

  • Cant get airplay icon in iTunes to display

I have followed all the steps in
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
even called tech support, reloaded itunes and turned off windows firewall, what next to try.  It works on another pc with similiar config so I know it works in my network , just not on one PC and I really would liek it to.  Wish to see my videos on my apple tv, help please.

Have you tried another AirPlay "server" on this particular PC to send the audio stream other than iTunes? For example Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil?
You can download it for free to try it out. If this option works then there must be something amiss with either the iTunes or QuickTime configuration on your PC.

  • Why has Airplay icon on iTunes and Apple TV function suddenly vanished in 10.8.5?

So it was fine yesterday, as it has been for the past couple of months. Tonight - nothing, unable to watch films etc from iTunes library on my TV. Wifi etc all fine. Is something up in Cupertino? Over the weekend I suddenly couldn't send email from my iMac or my iPhone - iCloud seemed to have reverted to me.com; earlier tonight my iPhone 4S suddenly disabled itself - and no, nobody had put in the password number incorrectly. Three failings in three days ... anyone else seeing these disturbing gremlins?

There is nothing wrong with Apple and nothing that happens in Cupertino has any affect on AirPlay working for individual users.
The vast majority of AirPlay issues are the result of a network issue, troubleshoot the network.

  • Missing Airplay Icon in Windows 7 PC.

I have a Pioneer-vsx-1326-k receiver with airplay and am able to use Airplay on my Iphone4 and a Win 2K PC but not the Win 7 PC (actually a Macbook Pro running windows 7).
I have seen a number of threads about this issue but none of the fixes have helped.
    Any fixes anyone?

    Did you try [Window#setIconImages|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Window.html#setIconImages(java.util.List)] ?

  • HT4437 I am using the latest iTunes on Windows 7, but I cannot see my airplay devices (Apple TV, Airport, XBMC, etc) from iTunes. I cannot even see the airplay icon in iTunes.

    How do I fix this?

I already have what you ( ClayandLonnie ) have suggested with the preferences>Shareing Preferences set to share all.
I have tried turing it off, and then back on.
I have tried just sharing specific items and this still did not work.
I am going to try stepping back down to 11.04.4 as previously suggested by TheDarkCanuck when I get home tomorrow. (maybe saturday).  I am just leary about having to recreate all my libraries and how long that might take.  I have over 1.5 TB of Music and Video, that is why I would like to get it working in the current version.
Just because I don't have a Mac, it seems that this is not being taken as a real problem for the windows 7 users (maybe it is specific to 64bit).  I may try the 32bit version to see if that fixes it first.  Unless someone else has, and want to chime in.

  • Airplay icon missing in iTunes, unable to set up Airport Express

Got a new Mini yesterday, replacing an old underpowered model with a 2.5 Ghz, 4GB, Radeon model for running an HTPC setup. Woo Hoo!
Spent part of yesterday setting everything up. Very easy to do with the Assistant moving old files to new machine. Everything is running great. Strong signal to the new Mac from my Airport Extreme base station.
    Except...
I am trying to switch my AIrport Express from being a network extender (not needed with new Mini) to running speakers/headphones in another room using Airplay.
I don't see the Airplay icon in the lower right corner of iTunes, and my AE does not show up in Airport Utility. Home Sharing is on in iTunes. Running newest iTunes 10.5.2. I have read all the support articles, but the missing Airplay icon is the stumper.
    Any ideas?

Update: I think I figured out the problem.
    1. I had to do a hard reset on the Airport Express to get it to appear in the Airport Utility list of devices. Use a paperclip to push the tiny recessed button on the bottom of the AEX and hold it until the light blinks green several times. This wipes the old settings.
    2. Then I had to change the AEX settings from the old setup (WDS network) to the new "Join existing network."
    3. The Airplay menu in iTunes appears and disappears depending on whether Airplay devices are detected. This is not in any of the Apple documentation that I could find. The AEX is there now. I choose "Multiple speakers" so music could play thru my regular HT speakers and also upstairs on the AEX.
Hope this helps someone else in the future.
