Missing album
Is it possible to locate and restore a missing event and/or album? I was cleaning out useless photos and after about an hour of work (which included time spent emailing old treasures to friends and family), I got a message telling me that there was a problem with one of my albums, and asking whether I wanted to discard or keep the album. I selected "keep" but the album has disappeared. Now, some background: before starting this process, I had decided to upload to Dropbox (I've since read that maybe that is not a good idea). After starting the upload, I realized that I would be storing a lot of trash, so stopped the process in order to "clean house" first.
I've decided that I'd like to keep a copy of just the photos, as a "last-ditch" backup, in addition to my regular Time Machine backups, which I can upload to one of the online photo-sharing sites, or perhaps to Google Drive, or even Dropbox, since they would just be pictures, not an iPhoto backup.
Meanwhile, is there any way to recover that missing set of pictures without restoring EVERYTHING from Time Machine, since I've spent so much time thinning the crop? And, how do I make a backup or copies of just the pictures? If I must recover the library from Time Machine, is there a set of instructions somewhere? This is a process that I wouldn't want to mess up!

Well, after I calmed down and rewound the itty-bitty motor that runs my brain, I realized that I had a couple of options. The first was to go to a Time Machine backup of the iPhoto Library Masters. I found the missing set of photos and restored them to an empty folder on my desktop. Then I imported them into iPhoto as if they were brand spankin' new. That worked.
Then, I also realized that there's this thing called "Trash" in iPhotos. Duh. Thank goodness that I thought of it, because I found something baffling and frightening in it. There were dozens of photos that I HAD NOT deleted. I swear, really, I'm pretty competent. I would be less worried if I were not computer literate (been all up in them since the early '80s). I am fascinated by what might possibly have been going on.
Regardless, I have rescued a boatload of photos from the trash, and in all of this have finally finished organizing my Events and Albums. Whew.
Thank you for trying to read through my hysteria. I do apologize. I was exhausted, terrified and the spring of my brain motor was sprung.

Weird iTunes 10.6.3 missing album artwork issue
I upgraded to iTunes 10.6.3 yesterday, and I had to restart my Mac for an unrelated issue. This afternoon, I noticed something really weird- all my "Documentary" movies that I purchased through iTunes Store have lost their artwork previews; meaning, if I click on "Movies" in the Library menu at left, then select the "Documentary" genre, and view the movies under "Grid" mode, none of the movies have any artwork along the left side next to the title. It has ONLY affected the "Documentary" movies, but none of my other genres. In fact, I created a separate sub-category for "Disney Documentaries", and those movies are missing the artwork in "Grid" view as well. If I view all Movies in "List" mode, all the movies have artwork EXCEPT the Documentaries. Interestingly enough- if I select a Documentary movie and type "Cmd+I", then select the "Artwork" tab in the "Information" window. the artwork is still there, it just doesn't show in the "List" or "Grid" view. How can I fix this? I am currently rebuilding the Spotlight Index, I've repaired permissions, and even done a verify/repair with Disk Utility, but nothing has worked so far. I've already checked the "Automatically Download Missing Album Artwork" under Preferences, but that didn't solve the problem either. The movies all play fine otherwise, but this little glitch is frustrating me. Please help!
I have this issue. Album artwork was totally fine before. After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.

My iPod 4G, after a reset and iOS6 install, after I recopied and synced music, is missing most album art. Even songs directly downloaded from iTunes are missing album art. I'm using iTunes 11.0.1 on Windows Vista. My iPod isn't full. Whenever I go to "On This iPod" and add album art and sync, nothing happens. Please help :/
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Updated to latest I-Tunes. Since then whenever I import a new cd to the library it does not get the album artwork. Automatically download missing album artwork is enabled in Preferences but the art work still does not appear in my library?

II've just got an iphone 6 and set it up using my iCloud backup . Everything has restored perfectly except I've only got 2 of my music albums what has happened to the rest
IIf you purchased them from iTunes then the missing albums May be in itunes on your computer. Make sure they are selected in the Music TSB and sync your iPhone. If you purchased them on your iPhone you can download them again. if you copied the missing albums from CDs that you own you should find the albums in your iTunes library.

Missing album art work in cover flow mode
why would i have a missing album in cover flow mode on my ipod classic, but be able to see the same album in itune on my computer. it does shows up under artist catagory, just not cover flow. i have deleted the art work and re copied it, re synced and restarted and still no album cover. also, not marked as a compliaction either. thoughts?

iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

A smart playlist with the rule Has artwork is false will help you focus on the tracks that need artwork.
Option-(or right)-click > Get Album Artwork should get artwork from the store if the album can be recognised. Otherwise Google is your friend, search for the relevant album, copy the image & paste it in to iTunes.
Note sure if affects Mac users but there is a copy/paste bug with the current build (10.4.0.80) which can result in a blank image being pasted. Saving the image locally to your computer, and then dragging in the saved image will work around that.

I am having to recreate my itunes library and do not understand why prior album artwork appeared in my older library but not the new library? Is there some way to scan itunes for missing album artwork?
do you have a strongly recommended default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - you have unchecked that option?
It sounds like you have a referenced library and are now experiancing one of the very siginificant drawbacks of a referenced library and one of the many reasons they are strongly not recommended
Also note that iPhoto '11 may use alises in the originals folder as part of the upgrade
It is important that we understand exactly what you have and what is not sorking - what error messages you are getting
You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it -- and you can not rebuild yoru librtary - only iPhoto ir iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - can rebuild a library unless you are a SQL programmer and understand the structure that iPhoto uses

Grayed out, unplayable songs and missing album art on iPhone after 5.1 update with iTunes 10.6
I have been having these problems on my iPhone since the above updates. First, the grayed out songs: I have my iTunes account set to sync over the air with wifi. I charge my iPhone overnight, but sometimes when I unplug the iPhone in the morning, a great majority of the songs get grayed out and unplayable. I can see the songs listed, but they don't play. I then have to sync the iPhone on my iMac in iTunes to enable all the grayed out songs to be re-copied to the iPhone. As if that isn't inconvenient enough, I now am encountering missing album art for every song on my iPhone. All the album art exists in my iTunes account on my iMac, but I can't get the album art to appear on my iPhone. This literally happened overnight one day ago and I can't figure out how to get the album art back. I do have sufficient storage space on my iPhone, so that possible explanation is eliminated.

I am an artist on iTunes. I have contacted iTunes support but have heard nothing back.Two of my albums, Peaceful Solo Piano from the Heart and Solo Piano for Love, Peace & Mermaids have disappeared from my catalogue both online and in iTunes. Missing Album covers in iPhone/iPad (iTunes 11)... anyone?
I was hoping with the update to iTunes that this problem would have been solved- i was WRONG.
It's entirely disheartening that a problem that has existed for quite some time now continues, and not just with my iPhone 4 but also with my brand new iPad mini!
I'm noticing it seems completely arbitrary as to which album cover is missing- both ripped and bought albums are missing their artwork when I transfer over...a nd some retain the cover art (and yes they exist in iTunes- I'm pretty anal about keeping my music all sorted).
I've read the dozens of fixes that either work or don't work for any given person.
How can Apple allow such a glaring bug to continue?

I 've been having the same issue.
One thing I noticed was that it seemed to be like the missing albums were the ones purchased with a different Apple ID (mine but from a different country)... Then I realized that (as you said) it was rather arbitrary since the recently bought ones are either missing or just fine.
But most purchased with a diff ID are missing album covers.
I myself have 4 country IDs since I lived shortly in diff places.
I wish Apple was less constraining regarding this, but I guess it's got to be due to the music houses' rules and conditions... -
Missing Album Art Work - Suggested Fix
Hello!
I have recently subscribed to iTunes Match on the cloud and noticed some album artwork was not showing up on my iPad. I read several posts from people having the same issue. After kicking this around I found a fix that has worked every time for me and may help you as well.
Overview: The art was on my iTunes library, but some art did not make it to the iCloud and was not showing on my iPad - "Albums" Section of iTunes while streaming.
1). Identify an album that is missing the art from your mobile device.
2). Go to that album and select the first song from iTunes (All Songs) on your computer.
3). With the song selected do a "Command i" to expose GET INFO for that particular song. There are several tabs at teh top of this GET INFO window... the last one is ARTWORK.
4). Click on the art then drag a copy to your desktop.
5). Go back to the GET INFO and highlight the artwork once again and click DELETE ...then OK.
6). Poof, the artwork will be deleted from the GET INFO and will no longer show for that song.
7). Go back to GET INFO window. (command i) ... click ADD in the ARTWORK tab.
8). Select the art file from your desktop (or where ever you dragged / saved the original to), click OK. I used a few personal pictures for some art and it worked too!
I did several this way and once I was done I did an UPDATE iTUNES MATCH from iTunes (found on the STORE Tab...not the store itself). I closed iTunes on my iPad and re-opened it...presto, the art work came in.
My ARTIST tab still has a few missing covers but it is coming!

Oldscool2The music was matched perfect, just a few missing album covers were missing (I'm fussy that way)... after doing the little fix suggest by "Sansimeon" (notted below) they all came in perfect...I actually had my iPad on the iTunes Artist section and while I made the changes (I was doing that on my mac) the album covers poped up on the iPad, it was kind of cool! I'm easily amused
As a follow-up note, I bought about 50 songs over the past 24 hours and all came in 100% with art... no more issues.

Got it fixed for the single songs, change the album artist to AAAA then clear the album artist and all is looking good. worked each time -
ITunes 7: Getting missing album art takes several passes...
Not sure why this would be, but I'm finding that capturing all my missing album art is taking several attempts. Each time I run "Get Album Art" it picks up a few more albums.
This is more of an observation than a complaint.Has anyone had the problem where iTunes displays the new full resolution album artwork, but iPod doesn't even after upload?

ITunes Missing Album Cover / Artwork Search feature (future update)
Hi,
I would like to request a future iTunes search function. I know that iTunes allows you to save a Notifications report after you "Get Album Artwork" feature for missing covers or issues where it could not find Album covers. However, can you add a function where you can list all the tracks/albums where iTunes could not find the album cover within iTunes, almost similar to the view, Show Duplicate Items function. It would be great to list all the songs without covers within iTunes itself, so that one can work on fixing all the tracks with issues.

Most albums missing album art on iPod Touch after updating to iOS 7
Hi there,
I updated my 5th-gen iPod Touch to iOS 7 yesterday.
As the activation servers were overloaded for most of the afternoon, the update failed for me and my iPod touch ended up wiped and in recovery mode.
I installed a blank iOS 7 and then restored my settings from the previous day's iCloud backup.
I then reuploaded all my music from iTunes to the iPod.
Most of the album art is missing from the iPod and it's making me very sad. All the album art is visible in iTunes, so this is rather confusing. There seems to be no consistency to it, between albums I bought on iTunes or albums I bought elsewhere and ripped to MP3 and added to my iTunes library, or albums for which I got the art directly from iTunes or by adding it myself.
I'm using a PC with Windows 8 and the latest version of iTunes, if this matters.
Any ideas?That happens sometimes
