Missing all images in Lightroom (deleted images showing)

Working in Lightroom and it was extremely slow.
I did a "force quit" (on my Mac) on Lightroom 2 (Guessing that wasn't the thing to do) All my current images in Lightroom are gone and and old version with photos that I've permanently deleted showed up...though there is a message on each photos that says that the image is  "offline or missing" (which makes sense because they've long been deleted).
Any suggestions or ways to look for my current photos.
(Fortunately current images are backed up on my hard drive)
Thanks!

It sounds as if your LR is using an old catalog(ue).  It's unlikely that you've lost your images, you are just seing the old images previews that are part of an old catalog(ue).  Can you not find the later catalog(ue) and open that or, if not, restore from a LR backup.

  • All images show darker in PS since CS4

After installeing CS4, all my images now look darker in PS. They all look at least 20% darker. I still have CS3 installed, and when I look into CS3, they images now also look darker. But when I flip back to Windows, all images look ok.
I thought it might be Adobe gamma - which I had disabled previously because it conflicts with my color spider calibrator. Sinec installing CS4, I looked in the startup folder of windows, but Adobe Gamma is not there... So I wonder what could possibly be affecting the way the images are showing in PS.
I tried a few different proofing methods in PS, but to no avail (only MAC proofing shows the image closer to what it should look like, but it's still not it).

  • Help (LR3)! Catalog missing all image files

    In LR3 (using Windows 7):
Suddenly, none of my image files are linked to the catalog; 14,000+ of them. The catalog is on an external hard drive, backed up on my internal hard drive. The catalog seems intact. The most recent image files are on my internal hard drive, but most are on an external hard drive. All drives are connected and I can navigate to any file that I want. But the catalog can't find the files, even though nothing has moved. When I click 'find missing files,' 14,000+ question-marked previews appear. None are linked to the image files.
Additionally, when I 'locate' a group of missing files on the proper drive, through the Library module, then suddenly those images vanish from the previews and the number of images in the catalog (the number in parentheses) is diminished by that number. I'm at a complete loss.
Background: I hadn't used LR for a few days. I recently installed Google Earth and apparently along with it a number of other applications that I didn't want. So I went to my Administrator tools and 'restored' my system to a previous state, from just three days ago. I've 'restored' before with no ill effects. It was after that, when I opened LR, the catalog/image disconnect was apparent. I don't know if that disconnect existed prior to my 'Restore' or if it might have been triggered by it.
    Any ideas?

It turns out that -- somehow -- the letter assigned to the external hard drive got changed. Once I changed it back (as Administrator), all was well with the world again. (Just needed to do a little extra housekeeping.)
Aside: How the heck does something like that happen, that a drive changes letters?

  • IPhoto Missing All Images

Showing some pics to my family yesterday, IPhoto seemed to be working fine. There was a notice pop up something about refreshing my thumbnails or something like that. I choose not now, a poof all 5K images, including all events were gone. What the heck did I do? How can I recover all my photos?

Run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • Preview Images Missing/All Images Missing

Hi - My understanding is that even if an image is offline - AP3 will still generate a preview of it.  I have countless projects  - whose file names, ratings and tags are intact, but the images and oreviews of those images are gone.  Nothing there - just a black box.
How to I get them back?
    Thanks

Hi - My understanding is that even if an image is offline - AP3 will still generate a preview of it.
Aperture will only create a preview if you enabled the generation of previews in the Aperture Preferences (in the "Previews" tab). And previews have to be generated, before the originals are taken offline - the originals are necessary to render the previews.
What happened, before your images went black? Did Aperture crash or something? Did you install new software?
What is your Aperture version, and where is your Aperture library stored?
If your Previews and original image files are still in the Aperture library, you should be seeing them inside your Aperture library package, if you select the Aperture library in the Finder and ctrl-click it. Then select "Show Package Contents". There should be folders "Masters" and "Previews" with the image files inside - organized in subfolders according to import date.

  • Missing All Images

Phone lost battery... when fully recharged, all my pics, but one, were missing.  any way to get them back?  VCAST says it can't recognize the phone (always)  primary computer is Mac OS 10.6.6  tried on Win XP at work too, but neither seem to recognize the Droid Incredible, so all pics have never been backed up. now are they gone for good?

    Hello raison00,
Sorry to hear about your pictures. If the pictures weren't on a memory card prior to the battery drain, then they can't be recovered from the device memory.

All images show up on all sites except on one specific site. When i use Firefox to open this specific site, all images show up normally without a problem.
I have tried different methods suggested online including within this site, but the problem still persist. Can any one assist me on how i can resolve this problem and why images do not show up fully on the specific site when using Safari browser version 5.0.6?

  • What is All Images in Finder for? Pictures from email show up there, sometimes 12 of the same picture. Can I delete them?

Can I delete the thousand pictures in All Images that show up there w/o doing any harm?

You shouldn't be able to see those folders if you don't know what they are! Be sure to turn off invisible files in Terminal.app by pasting this command
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false; killall Finder
    Press 'return'.

  • E mail attachments that are deleted show up in all images or all documents; how can I prevent this form happening?

e mail attachments that are deleted seem to still show up in the all images or all documents files; how do I keep this from happening?  If an attachment is deleted I don't want to continue to keep a copy anywhere.  Thanks.

I know this is almost a year later but I have been searching for a solution to the same problem you had. How did you fix this issue? I can see that something pops up on this site right before a transition. Why does that happen and not show in the preview and how do you fix it? Any help is appreciated!

  • Aperture installation deleted all image files from MacBook Pro.

After installing Aperture 3, I noticed that all the image files I had on my MacBook Pro immediately disappeared. These were stored in various locations throughout my computer depending on subject (e.g. "Emergency Response Training", "Summer 2009", "Car Restoration" and so on). A small number were in the "Pictures" folder but most were kept in other locations. All the folders and subfolders where these images were stored are intact but the images are gone. There is simply a "thumbs.db" file inside and the folder size is about 6 kb on average.
I did nothing other than install Aperture (no importing or library creation) and none of these images or folders are in the Aperture library. A similar thing happened with iPhoto where all my iphoto thumbnails show up but there appears to be no actual photo. No images prior to Aperture installation appear anywhere on the Macbook using tailored queries with "Find".
Apple support indicated that Aperture would not search out these photos unless prompted and would never delete them but It's hard to imagine how else this could have happened, as it happened only during installation (subsequent photos are fine) and targeted all image files in every location. Hard drive is new and indicates no problems.
Any ideas what might have happened - and, more importantly, how I might be able to recover the missing images? Unfortunately, my upgrade to Lion obliterated my DNS 321 back up disk, as well, and I don't yet know if I can recover those files.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Apple support claimed it was impossible for Aperture to delete files, as well, Allen. All I can tell you is I installed Aperture and the files immediately disappeared. I installed Aperture with the intention of learning its capabilities over the ensuing months, as I had never used it before, and so made sure to do nothing but install and launch so I could have a look at it and see how it was set up.
The network hard drive obliteration occured when I was trying to transfer novie files from my Macbook to my DNS 321 network drive, which I use to store all my backups and most of my media files. I've done this countless times with Snow Leopard without a hitch. However, when I tried it with Lion the system locked up during the transfer and I lost my connection to the drive. Once I managed to reconnect, I found that I couldn't get into the folders on the network drive anymore. All that would come up was a "My Documents" folder, which had no content. After doing a websearch I discovered that Lion no longer supports DNS 321 and that others with similar style drives had been having similar problems. What might be unique to my situation was that when I hooked up an old PC to the DNS 321 I was able to get back into my original folder set up but I found that the folders labelled from (A to J) were missing entirely and that the remaining folders had no content.
So, as I mentioned in my first post, the only input from me was installation and launch of Aperture and the only thing I was doing with my network drive was transferring movie files from the Macbook to the DNS 321 drive. If neither of those actions could possibly have caused the problems I described, I'd be very eager to learn what did.

  • Opened up LR and none of my images show in import, library, collections, filmstrip or develop modules. All other data is there.

I opened up LR 5 today and found that NONE of my images show up as thumbnails, filmstrip, in develop module, import or anywhere else. In develop module, all develop settings are there. The only thing missing is the image itself. I cannot see ANY of my images even though they are physically there on the HD. If I select an image (or image placeholder) and select "edit in PS", then PS opens and I see the full image for editing. I just don't see any of my images while in LR. I've rebooted my comp, did a "repair" on the LR installation and even a re-install of LR5. NOTHING works. I need help!!!

  • Browser should show ALL images, in all formats.

I recently opened an image for editing from Lightroom to Photoshop, corrected some perspective distortion, and saved the result as a PNG.  Lightroom then failed to show the new image, even after I synchronized the folder.  A respondent in the Lightroom forum said that Lightroom doesn't support PNG, to which I ask, WTF?
Lightroom should support any format supported by Photoshop.  It displays JPEGs, which aren't a raw format.  Exactly how many products should we have to run concurrently to simply manage images?  Lightroom is supposed to be the product that does it, but if it fails to show all images in each directory, it fails at its purpose.

MikeLeone wrote: So you think LR should support BMP? PCX? How many cameras store their
photos in these formats? PS supports them, but why should LR?
I'll agree with support for PNG, at least as far as exporting, as some
web sites like using this format rather than JPEG (although the
reasons for using PNG aren't technical, but legal, AFAIK - licensing
for using the JPG format - rather than something technical, like
    smaller file size, etc).
Very true, though I am more arguing that LR should be able to leverage formats available to other Adobe products installed on the same machine more than anything.
BMP and PCX, no most cameras don't use those formats *anymore*. But I remember having an old camera that took photos in BMP format (it may have been a webcam, but still a camera) which I have in my library from a long time ago. In my day job we still actually use applications that suprisingly enough can only display PCX images; though I never would intentionally keep anything in PCX.
I think anything it is able to import it should be able to export; but again if you have it natively supported in the Adobe product or universally supported by the OS without additional codec installation it should be supported, even if it is something obscure as PCX.
    MikeLeone wrote:
That should be a feature request for the camera manufacturers, then,
shouldn't it? Ask them to share their non-published, proprietary
drivers with Adobe? Or at the very least, publish an API so LR (and
presumably, other programs) can call the code (presuming that the code
is modular enough to be called by other programs, of course).
Yeah, I understand that neither Canon nor Nikon are supporting DNG files straight out of the camera yet and both still maintain a propreitary formated RAW file, but I would suspect that generally a Canon .CR2 file doesn't change all that much if at all other than the camera identifier from a 20D to a 5D Mk II to the 7D for example.
Why do current Lightroom users need to wait until Adobe releases 2.6 or 3.0 to be able to use Lightroom with their 7D?
Why if Adobe releases a Camera RAW update for PS that includes the 7D does it still not work in LR?
Yes the mfg. need to be more open or pick a standard and run with it, but it just seems excessive for Adobe not to play nice too.
It is in Canon/Nikon/Adobe's best interest to play nice and share this information with Adobe. So I am betting they are not withholding it. I was getting Canon SDK notifications for the longest time and sometimes months before a Camera was available, and sometimes it was even annouced this information was made available to developers on new camera models. I am sure Nikon does the same thing and Adobe is getting this information from all mfg.

  • Should I delete redundant images in the "All Images" folder?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...
The "All Images" folder contains so many redundant images, should I clean up those redundant files?
If I do, will it delete them from the individual docs and other files where the images are associated?

be careful deleting anything from there. this smart search shows among other things all the pics in your iphoto library including thumbnails and such. so what may seem like redundant things are actually not. and remember, this is not a real folder. this is a smart search. deleting anything from there will delete the originals.
