Missing Aperture Built-in  Adjustment Presets

Hello,
Just installed Aperture 3.5.1 when i go and try editing with adjustment presets I find that all the built-in presets are missing.I can not figure how to bring them back..those were handy tools as advertised by Apple on web site..very disappointed. Please help me.Here is the screenshot of the effects menu.

Delete Aperture from the Applications folder (but don't empty the Trash), then download it again from the Purchased tab of the AppStore. Probably the download was incomplete.

  • Convert Adobe Lightroom Preset into Aperture 3 Adjustment Preset

    Hi all,
Just a quick question... I was a Adobe Lightroom user and recently purchased and switched to Aperture 3 and I love it, however I have a bunch good presets in Lightroom and I would like to convert them into Aperture 3 Adjustment Presets so I can continue on using them. Is there any way of doing it in a simple way (like converting a preset file from one to the other so I can import it into Aperture 3)? Thanks for any help, suggestions etc. in this matter!

There is no real automated way but it should be easy enough to do. Just take a look at what the preset does in lightroom in terms of what adjustments it uses and what settings are used. Do exactly the same thing to an image in Aperture, then save as a preset.
I really never understood why people buy "presets" - the adjustment controls are simple and limited compared to what you can do with say a plug-in or even a photoshop action. Replicating the results visually with having no idea what the preset actually did is easy enough - seeing the adjustment blocks it adds and the parameters it is using makes it a no-brainer.

  • Can you combine multiple Adjustment presets in Aperture?

Is it possible to combine multiple adjustment presets into a single "master" preset setting? I know that I can adjust all the settings on a single photo, and then "lift/stamp" the settings onto multiple photos.
What I'd like to do is have a single preset that has all of my standard NEF (Raw) adjustments setup as a starting point for my D3 photos. From that point, I can then tweak them individually for the final version.
I'm finding that I make the same adjustments (Eg: saturation boost, vibrancy, edge sharpen, etc) on most NEF's out of the camera and I'm looking for a faster way to save all the individual tool adjustment presets into a combined "master" preset.
    Any help is appreciated.
    regards
    Tom

Thanks for the link. I had seen this thread prior to posting my question, as it really just gives other means of using "lift/stamp" to create adjustment presets in a different fashion, using existing images as starting points.
What I'm still trying to confirm is whether there is a way to create a master combination from all/any individual tool presets adjusted. It seems like "manage presets" should give some type of ability to combine the individual tool presets, but so far, I haven't seen how to do so....

  • The adjustment presets no longer work ... appear grey / not highlighted ... any suggestions

Aperture adjustment presets suddenly do not work ... appear grey / and do not respond to clicks

I also wonder if this is presets you have imported or the ones that Aperture comes with by default? Or, all of them? But, turning off quick preview mode, if it is on, would be a likely culprit, it seems to me.

  • Missing aperture information

    Missing aperture information
This is only when i use my Leica M9 shooting in raw.
Strange as all information is ok/displayed for my Nikon raw pics.
I have checked 'Aperture' in EXIF checkbox.
Anybody have same problem or suggestion as to how to fix?

In the Web Album settings you will need to change the settings to upload "Optimized Image" in order to get metadata included in the images you upload to .mac.
You current settings only upload small JPEG versions of your images.
Please, note that the upload time will increase significantly when you change to "Optimized Images" since they are much larger.

  • How to Create and apply adjustment preset for printing

How can I create an adjustment preset that I can apply to images before I print? In Photoshop CS3, it's easy: I just create an action. But how do I apply a preset that simply shifts existing settings a relative amount instead of applying absolute settings that overwrite image-specific settings?
The problem is that my Epson R1800 and its profiles output images that have a yellow shift to them. What I want to be able to do is apply a +5 shift to the shadow tint (camera calibration) and a +10 shift to the WB tint on top of whatever settings I already have after development.
    Any ideas?
(and yes, I do use colour management, my monitor is calibrated, and I instruct LR2 to manage colour and use the profile specific to my printer, paper, and print quality setting)

No ideas here? Surely someone must have wanted to apply an adjustment to compensate for a printer's tendencies or the different dmax, shadow detail, and colour temperature of various papers and illuminant sources (incandescent vs daylight fluorescent, sunlight), or at least use different tone / contrast settings or different amounts of sharpening (before the new print sharpening facility appeared in LR2).

  • Organizing local adjustment presets

How can I organize my local adjustment presets in folders? The list is getting too long and I'd like to organize it! Thanks!

Use a alphabetic ordering prefix when naming them, e.g.

    002 My Second Preset
    etc.

  • Adding an Adjustment Preset which adds a new brick?

I've created some new presets with good results but now I want to do something slightly different.
After picking Auto Enhance, I'd like to back down the red in an image. I can go to the Levels brick and pick the red Channel and make an adjustment there but I want a way to create a 'Less Red' Preset that doesn't step on any prior values in that brick. Adjusting a brick in a Preset overwrites the prior values. Better, I'd like a Preset that adds a new Levels brick and tweaks only the red setting. (Yes, I know I can lower the Red saturation in a very detailed manner in a the Color brick.)
How do I create a preset that creates a new instance of a brick?

Yes, your suggested 'NeilsGlyphs' solution also solves the issue but my quest was for an ad hoc Red adjustment, not deciding up front that the image might need some Red bias later.
So ... set the second Levels Brick to a null but enabled red adjustment.  Leave it untouched unless needed.
In truth, the functionality you want is built into the Levels Brick, but is not displayed.  If you apply Auto-Levels, you will see the histogram change (assuming Auto-Levels makes changes).  You can then use the drop-down to change to "red".  Red, Green, and Blue are each _separate_ controls in the Levels Brick.  You can make changes to the red channel -- they do not in any way change the settings in the (combined) Luminance control.  You can see this by using the drop-down to return to "Luminance".
Your "ad-hoc" red levels adjustment is always there, even after applying Auto-Levels.
In essence, you want separate contols for Luminance and for individual color channels.  I do to.  I'd like to see the Levels Brick have an expanded view -- just like the Colors Brick is -- showing all four Levels controls: Combined Luminance, R, G, & B.  That it doesn't (afaict) baffles me: short experimentation with the Brick will show you that all four controls are separately contained in the Brick -- they're just not viewable all at once.
NB: There is what I would classify as a bug in there as well.  The changes made to a color channel in the Levels Brick when they are made in addition to changes made to the (combined) Luminance channel are not picked up by the Lift & Stamp tool or when used in a Preset, even though the changes are applied to the Image.  The Levels Brick should be better implemented.

  • Is it possible to apply a saved adjustment preset to a mask

I am photographing an old photo album that has many badly faded photos. In Aperture I want to be able to apply the same adjustments to the photos on each page without changing the page that they are 'stuck' to.  I can do it with the standard presets but not my saved ones!!  Any ideas?

You could make several duplicates of the image in Aperture, then crop each of those duplicates to the individual photo you want to adjust, then apply your adjustments.
Otherwise, you'll need a program which would allow you to make detailed masks, such as Photoshop or Pixelmator. With one of those programs, you could isolate each image with a mask and individually apply adjustments/filters on each one without affecting the "border" areas.

  • PHOTOSHOP CS5 ADJUSTMENT PRESET? *Expert*

Im currently working on wedding photos right now, and i have a nice color theme to go by.
Is there a way i can set a whole preset or apply these settings to a batch of photos instead of making changes one by one?
    (settings I'm doing below)
*activate photo tab in photoshop cs5 window*
    -Smart Sharpen
    -Brightness & Contrast
    -Hue, Saturation (saturating)
    -New Fill Layer (Exclusion)
    -Resize
    -Flatten
    FINISH
is there any way i can apply these changes to a batch like you can in Camera Raw?
or can i set some sort of preset??
i know about the tools preset but that doesn't help with the changes I'm making.
also, each setting DOES save the latest value i use, but its still inconvenient to open each adjustment the same time for EVRY photo, even using shortcuts.
considering the power of this program, there MUST be some convenient way to edit more than one photo if I'm applying the same exact setting each time,
am i missing something here or do i actually have to do these one by one?

You may also be interested in integrating Camera Raw into your workflow so that you can use it's presets .

Ideally Adobe would integrate ACR with PS in a way that could be actioned and doesn't strip paths, etc, but my hopes aren't high.

  • Adjustment presets a-la "film type" effects

Are there downloadable presets out there that imitate various film characteristics? For example: Velvia, T-Max, etc...
Or is this outside of Aperture's scope and abilities?

i'm completely intrigued by these presets. i love the idea of having them around. how did you come up with them?
also, i would assume that the best way to apply the presets would be to adjust exposure, contrast, and probably most important, white balance to get a pleasing, accurate color rendition. then finally apply the monochrome conversion. was that your intent here?
    thanks for sharing.

  • Aperture split-tone adjustment?

I just switched from using Adobe Lightroom beta 4 to Aperture 1.5. Is it just me or is there really no way to make duotone or split-tone conversions in Aperture? I've been able to get some great looks with this feature in Lightroom (which has been available since beta 1) similar to cross-processing, etc.
This seems an incredible oversight by Apple as I know that many wedding shooters and fine artists use split-toning all the time.
    Am I missing something?
    G5 Dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for your post. I actually found somewhat of a work-around to my problem. I'm not sure where the selective recolor adjustment is in Aperture but I was able to achieve a cross-process-type color adjustment by experimenting with the tint adjuster within the Exposure module. I adjusted shadows, highlights and mid-tones and am fairly happy with the result.
In order to apply this type of adjustment to a black and white image, I think you have to import one because, when you apply the monochrome mixer to convert your image to black and white, you're unable to apply different tones/tints to various tonalities of the image because the mixer over-rides the tint adjustment.
On another note, can anyone tell me how to apply a vignette adjustment in Aperture?

  • Aperture crashes when adjusting print settings.

    Hello,
    Macbook Pro OSX 10.4.11
    Aperture 1.5.6
    ATI Graphics Card
I've had Aperture crash on me about 6 times today. Each time I am adjusting my print settings. Very frustrating. Within the last 48 hrs. Aperture has lost a handful of images. They were there one minute, the next they were gone. Now it's crashing when I'm adjusting print settings.
Also... probably shouldn't post this here but... My computer shuts down when running on less than 33% battery power. Just shuts itself right down... no warning, nothing.
    Any help... HUGELY appreciated.

Did you ever figure this out? My MBP is doing the same thing. I'm trying to print contact sheets. I can configure the images for the sheet, but the "Printer" box show "No printer selected" and I cannot click on the text to add or type in a printer.
Below it, the "Print Settings" button is active, but clicking on it crashes Aperture within 3 or four seconds.
I think this must be an Aperture problem as I can print from PS and from the various Nikon programs I have.
