Missing application icon, put it in dock instead

Hi all,
I just bought an iMac (first mac). I downloaded and installed a game, when I was done it said "drag this icon to application folder". Well I foolishly just drug it to the dock instead (so it would be easier to find). Now, even though it is installed it doens't show up in the application folder.
Is there any way I can copy or move the icon to the appliation folder from the dock?
Thanks

I would guess the game is not installed but is still on the mounted dmg. Once you finally unmount the dmg the Dock shortcut will no longer work.
Here's my guess:
1. You downloaded your goodie from the web, it arrived as "somegame.dmg" which you double clicked
2. A white pseudo drive appeared on your Desktop which you opened, saw the game, and drug it to your Dock, but did not drag it out of the mounted disk image
If the above is what happened, do this:
1. Drag the icon off your Dock, it will go "poof"
2. Double click the disk image on your Desktop to open it
3. Drag the program out of the disk image and into your Applications folder
4. The Finder will proceed to copy the game
5. After it is done copying you can close the disk image window then unmount it by either dragging it to the Trash or control click on it and from the contextual menu choose "eject"
6. Go to the Applications folder, select your game icon and drag it to the Dock
Disk image files "something.dmg" are fake disks. When you double click one it mounts a "disk" on your Desktop, just as if you had inserted a CD. The contents remain on the "disk" until you copy them to your hard drive. Some have an installer which will do the copying for you. After you have finished you need to dismount the disk image, just as you would dismount any other disk. Whether you want to throw the dmg file itself away or not after you've done the install is entirely up to you. Personally I archive them for future use.

  • Missing application icons after upgrade to 2.0

Missing application icons after upgrading to 2.0. Tetris, Clock and Voice recording icons are missing. Looks like the applications are still installed but they are not showing up with all the other icons.
There is absolutely nothing in the help about restoring icons.
Any ideas as to how I can get these missing icons to display again?
    Thanks.

    Great! Where was it?

  • How can I add the applications icon/folder to my dock?

I just migrated everything from my G5 and would like to add the applications icon that automatically expands to my dock.
    Thanks

Open a Finder window and click on the Macintosh HD on the left under Devices. One of the folders showing will be the applications folder; drag it onto the dock to the right of the System Preferences icon (individual apps can go to the left, but folders need to be to the right).
    Hope that helps.
P.S. Don't forget to update your equipment settings/signature.

  • How do I get applications icon back in the dock?

Lost my "applications" icon from the dock.  How do I get it back?

Do a Spotlight Search for "Macintosh HD." Click on it to open it, then one of the folders is Applications. Drag this to the dock.

  • Application icon remain in the dock after apps are closed

    Hi Mac OS Community!
I have Mac OS 10.8.4.  I notice that after I quit apps, their icon seems to stay in the Dock afterwards.
How can I keep the Finder from leaving closed apps icons on the dock?
    Thanks!

First of all, note that some applications are not close just by pressing the red button at the top left corner of the application window. If this is the case, press Command and Q keys to close the app, so the application icon should disappear from the Dock.
If this doesn't happen, the app is selected to appear in the Dock, so just drag the application icon off the Dock when it's closed, or right-click it and go to Options, and untick "Keep in Dock" or press "Remove from Dock"

  • Missing application icons for many applications

After a failed upgrade to kde 4.3 beta through KDEmod I removed all of the KDEmod stuff and reinstalled arch kde 4.2. But now many applications are missing their icons. Anybody has an idea on how to fix this issue? Thanks
P.S. I already tried removing all of the configuration files and already removed every last trace of kdemod stuff.

Hey all, i got the same strange behavior after trying to update to kdemod unstable 4.3 nad move back to kdemod stable.
After unsuccessfully trying to fix it with the given hints i managed to get "all" icons back.
    What i did:
Removing the oxgen icon pakage: pacman -Rd kdemod-kdebase-runtime-icons
After that the oxygen icon dir was still there, so i moved it to get a fresh dir after reinstalling the above removed pakage.
    cd /usr/share/icons/
    mv oxygen oxygen_old
Removing the hicolor icon theme: pacman -Rd hicolor-icon-theme
After that you get a funny looking desktop, cause all icons are gone.. the questionmark icon too.
Then i cleared my pkg cache: pacman -Scc
After that i reinstalled the above removed pakages.
    pacman -S kdemod-kdebase-runtime-icons
    pacman -S hicolor-icon-theme
Now all my icons are back without one exception.. the settings icon in the kde menu.. it shows the icon from the monochrome icon theme.. strange but i can live with it.
Hop this helps some of you
    cheers

  • Finder: Missing Application Icons

I recently downloaded a demo of Adobe Photoshop Extended CS3 and now that I have the full package software, I want to reinstall Photoshop, however, the package start up tells me that Photoshop is already installed. When the trial for the demo was over, I moved the icon into the trash and uninstalled it. However, it's still telling me that Photoshop CS3 is still installed on my machine.
Any suggestions as to what to do?

    Hello mitch:
Whenever possible, use a program's uninstaller. At this point, I would do a "find" on Photoshop and delete anything that is located. Although OS X does not "shotgun" things all over a computer like Windows, there may be some components that you missed.
By the way, if you dragged something from the dock (the other poster's question) all you did was delete a pointer.

  • Missing desktop icons, menu bar and dock

I have a my G5 Dual 2.7 Ghz, I am currently using Tiger 10.4.10. As of yesterday it had been running great, but this morning I turned it on and logged in as usual. The problem is it the computer only shows my desktop image, but no menu bar, icons, dock, etc..
I have re started it 3 times with no luck. Thank you so much before hand for any input that might be helpful

Have you tried a bit of basic maintenance?
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Missing application icon in applications folder

I drug my applications folder to my doc to make a shortcut and got the poof cloud. now all my icons are gone in Applications folder in finder and in all my time machine backups.how do I get them back. all I can find in trash is a folder called Recovered Files with 48 files like this one /var/tmp/tmp.0.BbdYw430645480 inside.

I'm guessing you didn't prep your new drive. Do the following (you will need to boot from your external drive:)
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU. Now use SuperDuper! or your favorite cloning utility to clone your system from the external drive to the new internal drive.

  • Missing applications icon, app is installed and opens, but icon has gone

I just got a replacement iPhone 4S and restored the phone as a backup. Stupidly, the backup did not rearrange my apps back into the folders and so they were all separate. However, the amount of apps may have exceeded the amount of screens that can load, as a few of my apps simy disappeared. HOWEVER I can open the apps perfectly fine using the search function. I just can not locate the application at all. One of them is Facebook messenger which is a very distinguishable blue, but I can only open it from the search function and then by double clicking home for currently opened apps. What has happened to the actual app icon?

If you still can not find app then likely it has "disappeared" then you might have restricted access to it unknowingly. Go to settings > general > restrictions > disable restrictions > turn install apps on

l'icone des applications a disparue de mon dock... comment la récupérer ? merci

"application icon disappeared from my dock ... how to get it back? thank you"
Find the Applications folder (double-click your hard drive icon) and drag it onto the Dock at the end with the Trash can.
(Careful not to drag it into the Trash!)

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon. And how / why did it disappear?

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • Replacing the Applications Icon in the Dock, not just with an Applications alias--two different things

There is at least one answer to my question posted here, except it's not quite accurate. I too accidentally yanked my Applications folder from the Dock (which, by the way, is very easy to do, so in the way is the Dock. It's just very easy to drag it or any other icon in the dock out accidentally while working in a another programs, most particularly perhaps while working furiously back and forth across the screen in a grahics program. And hiding the Dock doesn't help because one is constantly bumping the sides of the screen with the mouse. In fact, choosing to hide the Dock might make matters worse because one forgets it's there. That's what happened--I accidentally grabbed it and pulled it out.
I thought to put back an alias out of Finder and it works okay, but not like before. The old Applications icon wasn't just an alias (and I don't recall there being a shortcut symbol attached to the old Applications Icon). Now when I click on it I don't get the balloon that used to pop up dislaying all of my program as large icons. Instead I just get a Finder-style list of my applications such that it's harder to locate the program I want to use.
What I really want back is the old Icon that worked as it used to work and that installs with the orginal installation of Snow Leopard. Does anyone know how to get that one back? Thanks,

FYI - All Dock icons are aliases, however they don't show the curly arrow.
To view your folder contents as you wish, right-click on the icon and choose the view options -
"display as" 'folder' will just show the folder, 'Stack' will show the first application in the folder (usually Adress Book).
View contenta as - list or grid - no fan option when the Dock's at the side (as it sounds like yours is).
    EDIT
Incidentally, if you've dragged an alias to the Dock instead of the actual folder from Finder, you now have an alias pointing to another alias pointing to the Applications folder.
    Bit unnecesary.

1.) What are you doing with the App-V Icon path? e.g. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\AppV\Client\Integration\<GUID>\Root\AppVClientUX.exe.0.ico ?
I guess you could workaround it with deploying the icons to a central location and then pointing to the icon out on a central share. Or put the icons in a machine location...I haven't had this issue but that's just off the top of my head.
2.) I have not used App-V 4.6 in an environment like yours BUT would pre-caching the applications be possible? Any chance you'll be moving those apps into App-V 5.0 soon?
