Missing 'Application' in print dialog (Opera)

I've installed Opera, but when I go to print, the print dialog does not show 'Opera' in the applications (third) drop down list box.
Any ideas why it would go missing?

Print dialogs are rather confusing in GNU/Linux just because to some extent everyone does their own thing. There was an initiative to unify this stuff which I think would probably improve things, but I'm not sure what has come of that effort. When I read about it, it seemed they were probably going to take a while to agree on the perfect ui before they actually did much at all. (I am probably being unfair but it did seem an awful lot of preliminary effort was going into the design rather than the implementation.)
If you use a DE (e.g. KDE) you get *some* uniformity in the associated applications. The downside is that if that implementation sucks, it sucks in all associated applications. The upside is that when after several years they actually fix it, the fix benefits them all. But there are still bunches of non-KDE and non-QT apps doing their own thing (e.g. Firefox).
EDIT: And Firefox ignores default CUPS options such as paper size and insists on using letter rather than A4 which drives me nuts.

"Save to Adobe PDF" missing in Mac print dialog

I've just upgraded to a new machine, and the "Save to Adobe PDF" option is missing from the PDF drop-down menu in the print dialogue. I'm running Mac OS 10.8.3 and CS 6. I believe that Acrobat X is supposed to automatically install this option into the main print dialog; what can I do to get it installed if it got left out of the initial CS6 installaion?

OK thank you. I feel like I'm still not quite getting my question across. I don't think that PDF Maker is what I was using last week before I got a new machine; wasn't that the thing that showed up in the upper portion of the Print dialog, in amongst your physical printers? That is not what I was using. I was using the Save to Adobe PDF.app (an Automator app) that stays in the PDF Services folder in the Library. You access it via the PDF button in the bottom left of the Print dialog. This was using Acrobat 9 and OS 10.6.
Your description above makes it sound like when I go to that button I would get a contextual menu that lets me choose the quality of the PDF. I don't have that choice. This is the contextual menu I get under PDF in the Print dialog:
I used to have an additional entry there in the middle section called Save to Adobe PDF. That brought up a dialog with a drop down menu that showed all of the preset settings I have made for PDF creation, and I could choose my quality there, choose a location, and save. I had full control over all the settings. I just need a choice that brings up that dialog, and Save as PDF doesn't do it (it just uses the native OS PDF generator).
The second method does not work on my machine either. If I try to drag a Word doc into Acrobat it tells me it is not a supported file type, and says "To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF." this indicates to me that somewhere I should still have the ability to choose Adobe PDF rather than Mac OS PDF.
I can save to PostScript and drop the file onto Distiller -- as long as the Distiller settings are set correctly already, because it starts creating the PDF immediately with no dialog in between to make choices. I can live with that, but I would rather have my Automator workflow back to do it in one step. (sadly I don't know enough about Automator right now to easily do this myself, but maybe this is a good chance to learn.)
I know that I have seen this workflow mentioned as something that is installed along with Acrobat X but maybe people are mistaken about that and it was just left over from a previous install. I know for sure that the workflow that was working on the old machines was outdated; it was 32-bit and can't even be opened in the current version of Automator. So the old one clearly won't work any more. For now I'm going to set up a Distill folder on my desktop with the settings I use most often, and direct my PS files there.

Print Dialog Text Missing for Adobe Reader X

I recently updated my computer [Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP 3] to Adobe Reader 10. After installing I starting seeing some minor issues pop up:
1st on the Intro splash page, some of the text is cut off of it.

Secondly, When I go to print all the text is missing from the Print Dialog. This issue only appears when utilizing Adobe Reader X. No other software has this issue.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I think the application is looking for a font and maybe the font isn't installed. I paired them down to the basics, because it was slowing down my computer.I would appreciate any assistant.

Print Preview is missing from Firefox 6 on Mac OSX Lion in both File Menu and Print Dialog Box

The question says it all really. Print Preview option is missing from both the File menu and from the Print dialog box when you select Print. I use Print Preview a lot to avoid wasting paper.
A relevant issue might be that the Mac OSX app Preview is currently having trouble with various printers including my Xerox and so, temporarily, the default application for all Preview items is now Adobe Reader until Apple get their act together. Perhaps this is affecting things?

How to set print dialog box to sync with applications

Dear all
I am using different applications, such as photoshop, lightroom, etc. All these applications have their propper print dialog box with enhanced settings.
BUT
after hitting the print button, my computer takes me always to the mac print dialog box, where again I can set different things: I can set paper quality, paper format, the colors...
to me it seems that the settings I have chosen in the application print dialog box are getting erased by this second set of (OS X) print-settings.
WHY DO I NEED TO GO THROUGH TWO PRINT DIALOG BOXES?
Can I omit the OS X print dialog?
Or am I missing something?

but just to understand this: *which dialog box is the one setting the printer* (when for example using photoshop)? is it the first dialog box, i.e. photoshop print dialog box - or is it the osX print dialog box?
if it is the second, I can skip the photoshop-one... ?
or do I need to experiment with a combination of both?

How to open print dialog from web dynpro abap application

Hi experts,
I have a web dynpro application with several views and onone of the view there is a button that should open print dialog with printers list and all other options (standard print dialog we see in windows). I did reserach on SDN and came to now that this is a limitation of web dynpro abap. I did find some code also but unfortunately our current version of ABAP(7.0) do not support the code I found. I am not able to find any proper solution for this. Could someone please let me know how I can open a print dialog by clicking on a button in web dynpro abap? Any sample code or any information would be greatky appreciated.

Supress Printer Dialog box (Operating System) in Payslip Printing

I have design the smartform to print the payslip. In the main window i have created the loop and then desing the templates to display the details of employee and the wage types.I have only one page in it. I have develop the print program to call the smartfform. But when i try to print the payslip for number of employees the printer dialog box (Operating system Level) is appearing for the number of times the employees i have selected.I am able to suppress the Print Preview dialog box from SAP it is not showing and i have given the parameters to print immediately.But the Problem i am facing is if i select 3 employees the printer dialog box is coming 3 times. i have to click 3 times to print the payslips .

Print dialog options missing on networked print- advice?

Hi everyone,
I am using a small LAN network of three macs.When I try and print to a printer that is plugged into another mac I am missing options from the OS print dialog that appear when the printer is plugged in directly. The items missing are from the drop down box that defaults to "layout"
missing are:
print settings
expansion
extension collections
paper configuration
roll paper options
or simply have a visual reference

thanks for your response. in answer to your question it is the epson r2400. If i plug the printer into my mac i get the full dialog, as I would when i print on the g5 (where it is normally plugged in). This would suggest that there are correct drivers on both macs for printing directly.
On my mac in the print dialog i can select two "different" printers
Epson Stylus Photo R2400
or
Epson Stylus Photo (g5) @ studio g5
(think the last bit (studio g5) is correct am not in front of that mac right now)
The first one only works when the printer is directly plugged in, the second one only when networked, and then doesn't give the full options, as aper the subject line.

Auto printing a PDF document without Print Dialog, in a web application

We are developing a web application (target browsers: IE and Firefox). One of the requirement is to open a PDF document and print it without any user intervention(no print dialogs). Is there a way to achieve this? Please let me know.

Yes, if you install a special application folder level script with a trusted function on the end user's client computer. Adobe has made this feature only available under very specific conditions to prevent atomically printing without the end users knowledge of the print action or allowing it by adding a the special folder level file.

Printer dialog application

Whenever I print a document, be it to Adobe Acrobat Pro or to any of my printers, I always get a little application open up in my dock with the print dialog. The problem is that I would normally expect it to quit upon completion of the task, but it doesn't so I have to click on it and then manually quit this application every time I print something. Is this an OS quirk or is there something I haven't set properly in my print dialog or system preferences? I can't seem to find a way to change this behaviour.

I tried it with Acrobat and it works, but tried with my HP 4385 printer and although when I right click on the Dock icon auto quit is checked it still doesn't auto quit. Thoughts?

I am a creative director in the screen print (garment industry) for over 20 years. We have always used PS to directly print and control our halftone screens and angles through the screen function in the print dialog box. Now it has miraculously disappeared after so many versions previous.
I emplore Adobe and their team to please update this function back into CS5.
Although it is a function many might not even understand how to use, it is IMPERATIVE to the screen printer/artist in this industry.
There are workarounds, of course, but they are much more tedious and time consuming.
I truly cannot convince enough that we folks in this industry want this function back!!!!!

Missing "Print Settings" in Canon printer dialog

I've Googled all over for this, but I haven't found an answer to this particular question. Maybe someone in here would know?
I want to print a photo from Lightroom 3 on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. I have a Canon MP800R printer. I want Lightroom to manage the color, and I'm able to choose the glossy paper profile I want in the Print Job pane in Lightroom. However, when I click Print and get to the part where I should turn off color management in the printer dialog I'm not able to do so. There is no Print Settings section in the dialog box. As far as I understand, all the important stuff goes on in this Printer Settings section, see http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_print/lr2-print.htm. Why don't I see Print Settings?
I should add that if I go ahead anyway with Lightroom managed printing the colors are off, but if I use Managed by Printer the colors look decent.

Custom paper size button missing on print dialog box

I installed the print driver for our new Z5200ps printer on four machines--all with no issues. I installed it on the fifth PC, and when the user tried to print from Illustrator and Photoshop, neither print dialog box had the custom paper button as all the other machines do. I deleted the printer and reinstalled--still no luck. Am using the latest driver. We're all running Windows 7, 64 bit. Thanks for any help!

installed Adobe Reader 9...assuming it to be an upgrade. The print
format box is completely worthless in content, and above all, it
does offer a "print" option. You are totally unable to print zny-
thing. Why is the print option (command) not included. Is this an
overlooked error.
Whar process do I use to reinstall Adobe Reader 8 and uninstall
Adobe Reader 9. I am using Windows Vista Home Basic and have never
had a problem using Adobe Reader 8.
I would appreciete whatever help anyone can offer.

Print dialog missing

I'm running Lightroom 5.2 with OSX 10.8.5 on a Mac Pro with 14 Gigs of RAM.
The first time I click the Print button in the Print module, I get -- as expected -- the OSX print dialog for paper type, etc.
However, if I don't change images and click the Print button again, the Print dialog does NOT appear, and the print job proceeds as normal. In past versions of Lightroom, the print dialog always appears for every print job from Lightroom.
Is this a bug? Or is there some new option/feature that I've overlooked?
