  • Crop tool now displays a Diagonal.  The "apply during import" panel has gone away!!  Any help appreciated!!

My Crop Tool now displays a Diagonal instead of a "Rule of Thirds".  I do not know why or how to correct.
Secondly, the "Apply During Import" portion of the right hand panel has disappeared.   Thus I am unable to use custom setting while importing.  I don't really know if this happened during upgrade to LR5.4 or not.
    Any help greatly appreciated!!!

You probably pressed the O key which cycles through the crop overlays when the crop tool is enabled.
Click Tools / Crop Guide Overlay in Develop to see the various choices.

  • Apply During Import

There is no Apply During Import Panel on Lightroom 4

Go to the Import dialog box, then point your mouse on the right where it says "File Handling" and right-click and select Apply During Import.

  • Why are my ratings missing when I import files into Lightroom?

Files that I have previously rated with stars in Bridge appear in my Lightroom catalog after DNG conversion without them. I am having to select all the images and use the 'Update DNG Preview and Metadata' command after ever import. Interestingly, this did not used to occur. What preference do I need to reset?

I'm still not sure I understand.  When you say the develop module changes every picture, do you mean adjustments get applied?  In LR4, the "Basic" panel (top right in Develop module) all the sliders are zero (centred) unless adjustments have been applied.  If they're not centred, then maybe an auto adjustment has been applied?  See Jim's post above.
Also, in Edit menu, Settings, Presets tab, make sure "Apply auto tone adjustments" is NOT checked.
If you want the pictures to look the way the camera jpegs look, then apply a "Camera..." profile.  In Develop module, bottom right, "Camera Calibration" panel, there's a drop-down adjustment "Profile:".  The default is probably "Adobe Standard".  A better match for the Canon picture profiles is to choose "Camera standard", "Camera neutral" etc.  These match closely the equivalent profiles in Canon cameras (Standard, Neutral etc).
Lightroom can't read what was set in the camera, but you have to apply this in Lightroom.  However you can automate it by creating develop presets (see the help).  You can apply presets when you import images. When you import, there's a "Apply During Import" panel to do this.

  • Ever noticed that Auto Tone performs slightly different adjustments when applied during import as opposed to when applied in the Develop module? I've just run some experiments using LR 5.7.1 Camera Raw 8.7.1 using Canon CR2 images. 3 out of 4 test images

I received two email replies (BriPhoto & Rob Cole) to my above post, which are now missing here. I only mentioned Auto WB because of this statement in your PDF posted here Shared Cat:
"Apply auto WB and Auto tone to an unmodified photo and note the changes.
Apply auto WB and tone to another photo with very different exposure and tone and note changes to confirm that changes are different and do depend on the content of the photo being operated on (assumption)."
    You are now saying:
"However, in this case we are talking about the SAME raw file, imported from the camera's CF card twice. One is imported with no preset, then the Auto Tone preset applied, the other is imported with the Auto Tone preset set in the import module. Both files have the SAME WB setting (As Shot) and the same Temp and Tint, as you would expect. The only differences (in LR) are in the tonal values."
I repeated Import of the two copies of your 14BD3913 CR2 file (14BD3913.CR2, 14BD3913-2.CR2) following the above procedure. The Tone values are identical for both using LR5.7 on my Windows 7 SP1 system. I cannot duplicate your issue as outlined above.
Is this the Auto Tone preset you are using on Import?
Two other things you can try:
    1) Reset your LR Preferences file:
    http://members.lightroomqueen.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/1148/198/how-do-i-delete-the- lightroom-preferences-file
    2) If that doesn't correct the issue I would try uninstalling LR5.7.1, delete the LR Preferences file, and then reinstall LR5.7.1 using a fresh download.

  • Collection during import automatic in lightroom

    hey
is here a way to get lightroom to automatic create a collection set with the same name as the folder where the new photos are storred
    cheers

Well the idea was to have it so that all the high rated images would be easier to find
There are plugins which do various things with collection sets, smart collections, mirroring disk folder hierarchy as collection sets... - but I would need to better understand what your aim is, before I could advise. For example, having a collection set which mirrors your folder hierarchy doesn't make it any easier to find high-rated images.
I mean, the ratings filter makes it easier to find high-rated images - have you tried that?
    You also said:

there i had a project (collection) with a smart folder inside
i had a templet that i just used over and over agin and i was hoping to find a script or so that could do the same in lightroom
Are you familiar with Lightroom's smart collections? There are "scripts" and such which may help to streamline, but at this point - I wouldn't know what to recommend.

i would go straight to the iPad version aswell
Consider TreeSyncPublisher (free by me): you define one set of collections which may or may not include smart collections, which can be used (re-used) when publishing/exporting copies for website, ipad, iphone, ... - so you don't have to synchronize multiple publish collections...... - I'm finishing up to release a new version which will polish it up some more.. Again, there are other options which may be better suited to your circumstances - dunno, yet..

  • In "Apply During Import" - What happens to existing metadata?

I, like thousands of others, have thousands of photos that already contain metadata added in the Bridge+PS years. When I import, will that metadata be overwritten by my current template or will the current information be appended to the imported photos?
You see, my images are already keyworded, but many contain my former overseas address. I want to keep the keywords and append the new address.

It will replace with new info. To ensure that the keywords are not overwritten I recommend that you edit the Keyword section of the Metadata Preset is unchecked (see screen shot). You can edit the preset via the Metadata>Edit Metadata Presets... menu item.

  • Filter choice in "apply during import"

In my LR4's Library module, instead of the "default filter" showing up to the right of the LR screen, as it always has, it now is saying "green filter" and hence the image is B&W until I click option arrows and select Default Filter. Any idea how I screwed up?

  • How to remove existing keywords during import?

I have tried to find a way to NOT import existing keywords present in files that are already on my system, when I am importing those files into my library. They mess up my existing keyword structure and I just want to ignore them during import. I tried to enter an empty keyword text area with checkbox ticked in the template I apply during import, but that doesn't do the trick for reasons I don't comprehend. Any clues?

To tell you the truth, I don't think the Lighroom Import function has the capability of removing keywords.
Your choices seem to be ...
Remove keywords after import, in which case you would also have to remove the unwanted keyword from your hierarchy
Use freeware tools like Geosetter or Exiftool to remove the keywords from your photos before importing

yes shirley i did, it turned out that one of my photos was a snapshot of what was on my iphone at the time and it had been named xxxxx.png, i think the fact it was .png was the reason, anyway i deleted it from phone and computer and i,ve had no problem since.

  • Complex join goes missing during import

    morning,
i got a complex join between 2 dimension tables (in physical layer: one table is alias of existing dimension table; other is geo hir table) which goes missing when i try to import the new SA into the existing repository (the join is in the new SA)
there are 3 other complex joins (remaining geo hir tables that also join on alias table) which theoretically are identical and which dont go missing; i see no difference between any of them
id appreciate any suggestions what i could check to prevent this from happening

yes, i know its not supported
during import the catalog is select for sure plus the security group
i tried the merge too (following the instructions for merge with blank rep), but then it creates a second database connection instead of merging into existing one as though it would not recognize that its the same one

  • Lightroom wont optimize after accidental computer shutdown during import

My computer was accidentally shut off during import of photos into Lightroom.  Now, when Lightroom is turned on, all photos are gray boxes.  I am currently trying to optimize the catalog, but it is taking over an hour. help

Try, when you’re not running LR, deleting your previews folder, in case it is corrupted.  The LR previews are stored in a FOLDER called catalog-name Previews.lrdata.  You can just delete the entire folder.  DON’T DELETE the .LRCAT file which is your LR catalog.

  • Missing import selection tabs during import

Try R-clicking on any of the other headings of subpanels, like 'File Renaming' and then selecting the missing subpanels.

  • Aperture Import Panel - Missing field list for "add metadata from" presets

I have MacBookPro using OSX 10.5.6 and Aperture 2.1.2.
Prior to Aperture & Leopard upgrades when I imported images I had presets for basic import data (copywrite, byline, caption etc) and the list would show up on the lower right side of the import screen.
Now, although I can select a "preset list" from the "Add Metadata from" pick list nothing happens. There are no fields listed to append data to.
Not sure what is causing this but it makes adding import impossible to add any metadata.
Any suggestions. I have searched the support posts and find nothing like this solved.
    Appreciate any ideas.
    Cheers,
    Mark

I was able to solve the problem by deleting the com.apple.aperture.plist file
First I made note of all my preferences, then I deleted the file. Closed Aperture and then re-booted the MacBookPro.
Once I rebooted and relaunched Aperture, reset preferences and closed Aperture and then restarted Aperture and now the Import panel is back to normal with the appropriate lists showing for the "add metadata from" presets.
    Hopefully this will help others.

  • Aperture import panel missing

    Hi,
Aperture shows an empty import panel. Sometimes it is available after a reboot. The problem occurs, since I have Aperture installed the first time. Remove and reinstall does not help. OS X and Aperture are up to date.
Does anyone know what could cause this?
    Regards, Achim

I have seen no official Apple document, that restricts importing from a network volume, but quite a few users had problems storing their referenced originals image files on samba servers. You are not trying to import referenced, are you?
As a general advice: when importing from foreign file systems, it is safer to go for simple file names and to edit the filenames before trying to import, if necessary:
avoid "umlaute" and other ethnic characters,
    avoid any character, that the unix shell may treat special as a pattern, like "*", "/", "^" or "~";
take care, that the filenames are unique, even with capitalization ignored,
and use very short filenames, on no account longer than 32 characters, to be on the safe side.
